This map covers the divide between Europe and Asia that stood for millenia.
Both the Dardanelle Strait and the Bosphorus are here for your gaming pleasure. Some of the geography is created with artistic license so as to incorporate all the terrain types. It is a diverse map in that respect. Hope you enjoy.

cool map of the Hellespond, but i think that it is a bit too big for what is a relatively small area scenario wise, and as for random games the terrain looks a bit too random and full of mountains-hills etc to be really fun. But i may be wrong :)

I don't really like the perspective either. However, I did put a map of the area on a grid and then used the same proportions to make this one. The problem is that the Civ maps use a grid system that is rotated 45 degrees so that width appears longer than the height even though it's the same number of squares. This causes the obvious distortion that you have keenly observed.

I will admit that I took some artistic liscense with the terrain in order to include all the terrain types. Otherwise there would be an inordinate abundance of the mountains-hills which you think there's too much of as it is. I think the map creates a pretty good impression of the semi-arid, rocky, mountainous terrain. One thing that I might change is some of the resourses. There should be sheep and olives aplenty and not so much livestock or game.

Thanks for the comments.

I didnt notice any distortion, i dont know why you said that (?) The map is cool :) (perhaps Hellespond confused you? it is the ancient name of the marmara sea)

as for terrain: what i said was that if you play a random game it isnt very fun to have one square mountain, one square hill, one square plains, one square grassland, and that patern repeating itself. However others may find this on the contrary to be very fun. What is obvious is that it took you a lot of work, and i respect that :)

edit: after looking at your map again i am beginning to like your idea, it is original ;) but still in a non-fictional map it pays to have continiously mountanous terrain where there is such in reality, to present strategic passings etc. that said i am not an expert on the regional terrain there.
