Many people have created/suggested all sorts of sci-fi based mods. I'm all for mods, although I have my reservations in adapting a space-based environment to the terrestrial based sphere of Civ3. I was wondering if someone was willing to entertain making a mod based on the Orion's Arm universe.

Here's the link to it:

Basically, it takes place 10,000 years in the future, in which artificial intelligences have assumed control of human civilization (not necessarily with negative outcomes, mind you). The explored galaxy is divided into several "empires" as well as numerous minor powers scattered about.

A civ3 mod would be based on the major powers would have to take place in an earlier time because 5000 light year radius is just way too much to simulate. Maybe 100 ly would be easier. Each of the empires has a distinct archetype, based on the whims of the AI that rules it, so that fits well with the civ abilities.

Any interest?

Well, I've been into the Orion's Arm setting for some months (although I've never posted anything on their forums or mail lists)... I'd love to see a OA mod for Civ! However, there are two major problems there...

1. A hundred lightyears is a lot of space... A lot of space means a lot of civs... Maybe an OA mod should be set on the first millenium A.T. (after Tranquility), just like the Freehauler project is doing...
2. Lots of new units to do.

Still... Good luck! :D
