View Full Version : New Modder- Need Help Big Time
Varlin Saliptor Oct 08, 2004, 05:41 PM Okay, first post.
I have some questions, and hopefully, you have answers.
1: I need help adding resources and units32 icons. I can add resources to the resource.pcx, but, when i play the game, all the resources appear as black boxes, with no art. When I add a units32.pcx, the game just crashes. What do I do?
2: All of the leaderheads that can be downloaded are in .ACE. How do I use them?
If this helps, I have:
-Civilization 3
-Civ3Edit
-Civ3 Multitool
-PhotoStudio 2000 SE
I also need city lists for
the Vikings
the Celts
Please help me!!!
Plotinus Oct 08, 2004, 07:08 PM Well, this does sound a bit of a mess. I have to say that the first thing I'd recommend is getting Conquests (or at the very least Play the World) since that includes both the Celts and the Vikings, so you would get not only the city lists but complete civs.
The resource problem - once you've added the icons to the pcx file, you need to open the editor and assign them. But I would assume you've already tried that, so I'm not sure what further problem there would be - same with the units.pcx file. I can't think what the problem there could be. Are you definitely putting it in the right place (in the Units folder, next to the individual folders for the new units, but not in any of them)?
It might be an idea to have a look through the Tutorials forum and see if anything there helps.

In my mod, they are civs, so i need the city list. however, i do not want to get Conquests or Play the World.
I have looked through the tutorials section but none have helped. :groucho:
mrtn Oct 09, 2004, 09:21 AM You should keep the original palette (at least until you know what you do when you change it). I don't know if PhotoStudio 2000 can handle preset palettes. The gfx programs people usually use, and which I know work, are Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro and GIMP.
Your crashes are due to not keeping the pics at 256 colours.
A program called Winace (they have a free trial, I think) open .ace files.
Varlin Saliptor Oct 10, 2004, 11:53 AM Thanx.
What about the leaderhead stuff?

What about it?
To clarify, .ace is a packed file, somewhat like a .zip or a .rar. You have to extract it to use it.
Varlin Saliptor Oct 10, 2004, 06:36 PM Doh. I feel dum. I didnt finish reading your post. sry.
Varlin Saliptor Oct 13, 2004, 04:20 PM I still ( :( ) need them for the Celts and the Vikings for my Mod.
