Similiar to the previous Mood Badges but larger (15x15 vs. 8x8)

Screen shot in the post that immediately follows this one.

If you would prefer the previously released tiny, less obtrusive badges, they can be found (along with a screenshot) here:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9362

Zip file = 221k

Installation instructions are in the ReadMe.txt included in the zip file.

How do you change .bmp or .tif files into .pcx format?

Just a suggestion : wouldn't it be more visible if the happy face had a green which was a little deeper and the sad face was bright red ?

Yes, I think Happy Faces should be DARK GREEN and sad should be BRIGHT RED!

EDIT July 5, 2005: I made my own smiley set including for all the Conquests at http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=122958.

Now updated for Conquests!

I am spoiled to having these little mood badge smileys. Civ3 Conquests adds specialists, so the original smiley PopHeads won't work with Conquests. I decided to make the mod myself since no one else has yet. I found it surprisingly easy. The Conquests PopHeads.pcx is only taller by 50 pixels, all the original heads are the same and in the same positions, so all I had to do was carefully paste EvanCiv's PopHeads into the new Conquests PopHeads.

I even blantantly modified his ReadMe.txt with the new folder info and kept the old screenshot in the zip. But I acknowledge that this is other people's work that I've cut and pasted.

Here ya go: C3Cmoodbadge15x15simplesmiley.zip (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads5/C3Cmoodbadge15x15simplesmiley.zip) (221K zip)

(The file was too big to attach, so there's no download counter. Sorry.)

See above for screenshot. Use the version in EvanCiv's post above for vanilla Civ3 or PTW.

EDIT March 3 2005: This works for the "epic" game, but it appears the "Conquests" scenarios have their own popheads.pcx files. You *could* copy this c3c popheads file into the individual conquests folders and have it work, *but* it might mess up the ethnic or era feel of the scenario. The conquests popheads appear to be the same people, but for example in Mesoamerica everyone is native american, and in other conquests the people never look industrial or modern. So if you copied the smiley popheads into the conquests folder you'll get europeans and asians in Mesoamerica and modern citizens where they should be middle ages. Several of the conquests share popheads files, but none use the stock C3C epic pophead file (as compared by md5 signature): Sengoku has unique popheads; Mesoamerica has unique popheads; Napoleonic Europe and WWII in Pacific have identical popheads; 7 conquests have identical popheads: Age of Discovery, Ancient Treasures, Fall of Rome, Mesopotamia, Middle Ages, Rise of Rome and The Three Sisters.

Does this work with PTW? I don't have a directory to install these icons into in PTW.

Yes, the original one should work with PTW.

Anyone gonna make Conquests versions of these?

I mean for Fall of Rome etc. They seem to use a different pic, so could someone put smilies there too? :)

Thanks Puppeteer!:goodjob: I'm sure EvanCiv would be please to know that you are keepping his legacy (15x15 smiley mooo) alive. Btw, I really really really love these smiley mood badges and I wouldn't want to play Civ without them.:)

But if you use them, they still won't affect the conquests. :(

I've also made my own popheads during the beta, and added "nationality flags" (well, they're supposed to be flags) -- even for the specialists.

So, in continuation of the popheads trend, here's: popHeads with Nationality Flags (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/CT_popHeads_with_flags.zip) for C3C.

EDIT: Here's a preview screenshot (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/CT_zulu_popheads.jpg).

Nice. :) But how do they work? Does every nation then have it's own flag or are they just different colors n that one?

If you would like civ-colored smileys, check the link in my signature. I don't know what changes C3C added, however, so tell me if they're still compatible.

I love the Smileys but have encountered 2 problems in C3C..........unfortunately while making an HOF attempt! :crazyeye:

1. When I switch to a Policeman in the City Map screen, Civ CRASHES!?

2. When I switch to Civil Engineer, the 2 shields appear but no smallhead!

Is there a way for me to fix these problems? :)

(Actually, I did fix the problem.....I had to uninstall your graphics package!)

Okay, never mind folks....re-read this thread and downloaded the C3C version from Post #11!

You also bumped a year-old thread.. BTW, if you look at one of my posts a few posts up, you'll see that I helped update it for C3C. I don't think the thread author even comes here anymore.

Thanks Chieftess & hIdDeN_eViL......once I downloaded the C3C version, everything worked A-OK! :)

Actually, I came to this thread because Moonsinger is advertising THIS Mood Badges thread in her Signature.......I agree, they're very useful! :goodjob:

Since this thread was bumped a few days ago, I'll post here that I updated my post with the C3C adapted smiley popheads both here and in the 8x8 smiley thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9362[/url) explaining a bit about popheads in the Conquests in C3C. They are the same layout as C3C epic but have culture groups and/or Age groups reorganized.

If you really want smileys in Conquests' Conquests at the expense of possibly having wrong culture and wrong era popheads, you can drop the epic C3C smileys into your Conquests folders, for example for Age of Discovery put it here (after backing up the original popHeads.pcx):

C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Conquests\Conquests\Age of Discovery\Art\SmallHeads

(Note the back-to-back "\Conquests\Conquests\" in the path name.)

It wouldn't be too hard to make new popheads for each conquest, but that would be about a megabyte download for the set. (About 220k each popheads file, and as noted in my edited post some conquests use identical pophead files.) I'm currently trying to cook up a scheme where the download would be a handful of smileys and a program to apply them to the popheads in place. This would allow everyone to get the color smileys they want, be usable on any civ, ptw or c3c pophead set and minimize upload/download traffic.

EDIT: Thanks to all for your thanks! Glad to hear people think my update of EvanCiv's popheads are useful.

EDIT 2: I should point out that I haven't game tested using the C3C epic smileys in the conquests. I have drawn these conclusions from comparing the popHeads.pcx files.

EDIT July 5, 2005: I made my own smiley set including for all the Conquests at http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=122958 .

Same as Eman, I saw Moonsinger's thread link and I remebered the mood badges that I saw in the pics of some stories. :)
