Eigth Level of Hell - the Malebolge(Evidently the level where the people who can't spell "Eighth" go. :mischief:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Many and varied sinners suffer eternally in the multi-leveled Malebolge, an ampitheatre-shapped pit of despair Wholly of stone and of an iron colour: Those guilty of fraudulence and malice; the seducers and pimps, who are whipped by horned demons; the hypocrites, who struggle to walk in lead-lined cloaks; the barraters, who are ducked in boiling pitch by demons known as the Malebranche. The simonists, wedged into stone holes, and whose feet are licked by flames, kick and writhe desperately. The magicians, diviners, fortune tellers, and panderers are all here, as are the thieves. Some wallow in human excrement. Serpents writhe and wrap around men, sometimes fusing into each other. Bodies are torn apart. When you arrive, you will want to put your hands over your ears because of the lamentations of the sinners here, who are afflicted with scabs like leprosy, and lay sick on the ground, furiously scratching their skin off with their nails. Indeed, justice divine doth smite them with its hammer.
Sin is fun! :crazyeye:

Chairman Meow Oct 17, 2004, 01:40 PM Level 6 - The City of Dis
You approach Satan's wretched city where you behold a wide plain surrounded by iron walls. Before you are fields full of distress and torment terrible. Burning tombs are littered about the landscape. Inside these flaming sepulchers suffer the heretics, failing to believe in God and the afterlife, who make themselves audible by doleful sighs. You will join the wicked that lie here, and will be offered no respite. The three infernal Furies stained with blood, with limbs of women and hair of serpents, dwell in this circle of Hell.

Holy crap! You're so goddamn evil that they'd have to make a new level for you! You'd be thrown into a black hole out of fear that you could ever get out! The black hole would be guarded by numerous of Satan's most powerful minions and sealed behind a wall of diamond. Man, you are one sick twisted bastard.

Purgatory
You have escaped damnation and made it to Purgatory, a place where the dew of repentance washes off the stain of sin and girds the spirit with humility. Through contrition, confession, and satisfaction by works of righteousness, you must make your way up the mountain. As the sins are cleansed from your soul, you will be illuminated by the Sun of Divine Grace, and you will join other souls, smiling and happy, upon the summit of this mountain. Before long you will know the joys of Paradise as you ascend to the ethereal realm of Heaven.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
You have come to a place mute of all light, where the wind bellows as the sea does in a tempest. This is the realm where the lustful spend eternity. Here, sinners are blown around endlessly by the unforgiving winds of unquenchable desire as punishment for their transgressions. The infernal hurricane that never rests hurtles the spirits onward in its rapine, whirling them round, and smiting, it molests them. You have betrayed reason at the behest of your appetite for pleasure, and so here you are doomed to remain. Cleopatra and Helen of Troy are two that share in your fate.

So I am going to spend eternity with Farinata and the followers of Epicur.... I thought my frequent oral sex activities would guarantee me blowing around with the lustful! Probably because I answered false on the hillarious question "A pimp is a good thing to be." Too many goldchains...
Thanks for a cool link, the divine comedy has always been among my favourites and I would like to have the talent to write a modern version of it, preferably a better one than Inferno by Niven/Pournelle. That one rather sucks!
PlutonianEmpire Oct 17, 2004, 04:11 PM 5th level. Styx is one of my favorite rivers anyway.
Specialist290 Oct 17, 2004, 04:19 PM Level 4. Only one up from you, PE.
Just before the river Styx is the Fourth Level of Hell. Here, the prodigal and the avaricious suffer their punishment, as they roll weights back and forth against one another. You will share eternal damnation with others who either wasted and lived greedily and insatiably, or who stockpiled their fortunes, hoarding everything and sharing nothing. Plutus, the wolf-like demon of wealth, dwells here.
Yuri2356 Oct 17, 2004, 06:04 PM Ah, good old level 1: Limbo
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Charon ushers you across the river Acheron, and you find yourself upon the brink of grief's abysmal valley. You are in Limbo, a place of sorrow without torment. You encounter a seven-walled castle, and within those walls you find rolling fresh meadows illuminated by the light of reason, whereabout many shades dwell. These are the virtuous pagans, the great philosophers and authors, unbaptised children, and others unfit to enter the kingdom of heaven. You share company with Caesar, Homer, Virgil, Socrates, and Aristotle. There is no punishment here, and the atmosphere is peaceful, yet sad.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But I think I was a few questions away from landing on level 5.
zeon252 Oct 17, 2004, 06:27 PM I took that test a while ago, and I got two variables. If I answered the question that said"do you plan to change your behavior and not sin?" as no then I got level 8. If I answered yes I got purgatorio. By the way, has anyone ever read Inferno?

LLXerxes Oct 17, 2004, 07:20 PM Fifth Level of Hell
The river Styx runs through this level of Hell, and in it are punished the wrathful and the gloomy. The former are forever lashing out at each other in anger, furious and naked, tearing each other piecemeal with their teeth. The latter are gurgling in the black mud, slothful and sullen, withdrawn from the world. Their lamentations bubble to the surface as they try to repeat a doleful hymn, though with unbroken words they cannot say it. Because you lived a cruel, vindictive and hateful life, you meet your fate in the Styx.

It's a very good book(even though Dante is a total wuss) but it also makes you think, which was its main purpose.
Erik Mesoy Oct 17, 2004, 11:57 PM I did this a while ago, last time it was posted. I arrived in Purgatory, changed one answer and landed in Limbo, which I don't really mind either. All the cool folks are there.

Pirate Oct 18, 2004, 01:58 PM Level 2. Lustful. Blown about and molested by dark winds and all that. I was also high for level 3, gluttonous. Moderate to very low on violent and treacherous. Which makes sense - if I'm getting all the sex and food I want there's no need to be violent or treacherous. ;)

Thanks, my impression of Limbo was always that it was "mini-heaven" -- better than Purgatory, but not so good as Heaven itself. Not bad for a non-believer.

The Omega Nov 06, 2004, 04:12 PM Ninth Level of Hell - Cocytus
This is the deepest level of hell, where the fallen angel Satan himself resides. His wings flap eternally, producing chilling cold winds that freeze the thick ice found in Cocytus. The three faces of Satan, black, red, and yellow, can be seen with mouths gushing bloody foam and eyes forever weeping, as they chew on the three traitors, Judas, Brutus, and Cassius. This place is furthest removed from the source of all light and warmth. Sinners here are frozen deep in the ice, faces out, eyes and mouths frozen shut. Traitors against God, country, family, and benefactors lament their sins in this frigid pit of despair.
Sheesh, the lowest level there is, and I was even exaggerating a bit to make myself look better..... :mischief:

What? As self declared king of this thread, I ask you, WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!??!?!?!?!
Cleveland Nov 09, 2004, 02:17 PM The Truth and nothing but the Truth... :D
Yuri2356 Nov 09, 2004, 02:47 PM And behold! The Goddess who created heaven and hell, god and satan strikes down to all who does not belive in Her!
The Truth and nothing but the Truth... Well, you see, The "Heaven" and "Hell" refered to in Dante's Inferno are those in Jeudo/Christian mythology. (God creates angels in Heaven, creates us on Earth, Lucifer get jealous and tries to rebel, sentanced to eternal damnation, blahblahblah...) Within this mythology there is no "Goddess" figure, and hence you statement is a lie. Now, if your statement was made jokingly, then you are justified in making it (This is a Humour forum) but, if you are actualy claiming that some twisted Pegan/Animist/Wica/Ect. goddess has anything to do with Hell, or the Inferno, then you leave me no choice but to chalenge you to a duel. Now, do you accept my chalenge or are you a coward?!

:dubious: Isn't that a bit extreme?
Yuri2356 Nov 09, 2004, 09:19 PM :dubious: Isn't that a bit extreme?YOU would refer to ME as an Extremist?!
HAVE AT THEE!
PlutonianEmpire Nov 09, 2004, 09:59 PM *GASP!*
You're a woman-hater?!
RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!!
Perfection Nov 09, 2004, 11:13 PM Yuri2356, you're being quite annoying right now. I would challange you to a duel, but that would confer respect onto you. Therefore I shall just beat you with a cane.

Betrayed Nov 10, 2004, 12:22 AM Err... this thread seems to get bit spammy. No offence meant.
And the test is pretty nice. I got to the LIMBO!
The Omega Nov 10, 2004, 07:40 AM YOU would refer to ME as an Extremist?!
HAVE AT THEE!
Ummm......... :sniper: (Wow, that was easy......)
Cleveland Nov 10, 2004, 09:55 AM Ummm......... :sniper: (Wow, that was easy......)
Darn.. there went my duel..
Yuri2356 Nov 10, 2004, 10:32 AM *sigh* :shakehead
None of you seemed to get the joking nature of the supposed "Duel" One would expect a bit more humour in a humour forum, but instead there is naught here but ill will. 'Tis a sad sign of the state of this place...
Cleveland Nov 10, 2004, 10:50 AM Or maybe you don't get our humour considering the matter.. ;)
Yuri2356 Nov 10, 2004, 02:03 PM Well, you at least have been humourous with your acceptace of my "challenge," but the others have been somewhat more hostile.
(changin my original purpose) What purpose was that? Might as well try to get back to something remotley similar to the topic.
Cleveland Nov 11, 2004, 10:38 AM to be compleatly humourous.. but at he point you made your challeng it thought that it would be much more fun to accept it than to state that I was just 100% joking..
h4ppy Nov 11, 2004, 08:27 PM I got 5th level:
Fifth Level of Hell
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The river Styx runs through this level of Hell, and in it are punished the wrathful and the gloomy.
Here is the others for comparison:
Level Who are sent there? Score
Purgatory Repenting Believers Very Low
Level 1 - Limbo Virtuous Non-Believers Very Low
Level 2 Lustful Low
Level 3 Gluttonous Very High
Level 4 Prodigal and Avaricious High
Level 5 Wrathful and Gloomy Very High
Level 6 - The City of Dis Heretics Low
Level 7 Violent Moderate
Level 8- the Malebolge Fraudulent, Malicious, Panderers Moderate
Level 9 - Cocytus Treacherous Moderate
The Omega Nov 11, 2004, 08:27 PM *sigh* Still the king......Is there none here who can challenge me? :p
