OK, guys. Here we go. I plan to edit this thread with the turn order above changing. Always check this first post.

You may play up to 20 turns. Less is always OK.

What I am going to do is ask everyone to subscribe to the thread, so that you know when something is going on. The biggest danger with these types of games is lack of communication, and people not realizing there turn. Questions? Issues? E-mail at lkendter@speakeasy.net

I ask that each player submit a turn summary like the next post below. Make sure to attach your game as a zip file.

4000 BC - We start at the edge of the land mass. Our people don't like what we see, so we look a little more.

3950 BC - We MUST be on a tiny world. I see a border for another civ already. What the ...

3900 BC - Delhi is built, and our worker starts a road net. The Uzbek tribe teachs us the wheel. We may very well need it. I wonder if we will even see a War Elephant. Game may be over before then! The direction of our sages is Bronze Working. Not my typical choice, but I am feeling claustrophobic.

3500 BC - We find Tokyo. We have the hardest decision I have ever made this early! War already? YES! However, I am trying a decieve the AI trick. We attack the worker. Will his warrior leave Kyoto to get the Worker?

3450 BC - Doesn't work, but a free worker. Already damaged Japan, and helped us!

3350 BC - Japan attacks our warrior on the Hill, and losses :)

3250 BC - Madras building with 4 mines, and Kyoto maybe 2. Japan can't last long.

3050 BC - Japan attacks again an fails :)

Losses - Japan 2 warriors, us none. What is really insane - This may be the whole Island! 3 lousy city spots.

Goals - TAKE Kyoto in 2950 BC. Wait for the 4 warriors walking there to be in range at once. I doubt he can survive the onslaught.

JoeSpaniel - You are up. CRUSH JAPAN!

The Year 3000 BC -

Mahatma Spaniel takes the reigns of power in India. A war for survival exists between the people of India and the Imperial Empire of Japan.

Showing his skill of leadership, our former Mahatma Lee put us in a position that ensured our victory. The Indian warriors destroyed the defenders of Kyoto in swift crushing battles. Only one of our units were lost and we marched into the Japanese capitol, victorious, in the year 2950 BC. The fledgling civilization of Japan ceased to exist.

Great indecision amognst our wise men ensued as to which improvements to build in Kyoto. A temple was agreed upon to expand our culture and make our people happy. Wine just outside Kyoto's borders would be a welcome luxury to our pious civilization. A road to it was begun.

Warriors now acted as our eyes and ears in the world we know so little about. They journeyed east.

The Year 2800 BC -

UNBELIEVABLE! ANOTHER RACE OF PEOPLE EXIST JUST BEYOND JAPAN! THE CHINESE!!!

Their borders are so close to ours that we fear they will overcome India before it can truly grow. Cautiously, we make first contact with these strangers. They are ruled by a man named Mao and he is very polite with us, though not impressed by our culture.

They are as advanced as we, but poorer in gold. We offer to pay for their knowledge and skills, and aquire new weapons of war like the bow and arrow. The method of making stone buildings. They work with bronze, but we have been experimenting with this and are now close to perfecting it ourselves. No sense in giving gold for nothing. We teach them our alphabet. No harm to us in that.

Thus our domestic priorities alter radicaly. A decision to send settlers to build a city near the wine is made in Dehli. We must have it before the Chinese beat us to it. The temple in Kyoto is halted and barracks started.

The Year 2370 BC -

The town of Bombay is established and wine finaly comes to Dehli. A festival is held and the construction of a great palace to honor the Mahatma is begun. (palace screen)

Sensing war with the Chinese may occur someday, we finish the barracks in Dehli and begin to produce bronze weapons of war. Then archers.

A great monument to India is planned next. A bronze colossus!

In the waning days of the Mahatma Spaniel, before his passing to his next incarnation, a meeting with Mao of China is arranged. India is endevoring to teach its people to write in the hopes that one day we will make maps and travel the seas. China meanwhile has learned to make a metal much stronger than bronze. They call it Iron.

We feel threatened by this. We offer China all our gold for the secret of making this wondrous and terrible thing. They want more. We settle on our gold and the promise to tribute more gold, and teach them to make wheels.

Amazingly, there was iron ore nearby Dehli all along. Our gods smile upon us, yet we do not always heed.

The Year 2230 BC - The passing of Mahatma Spaniel. There is no mourning nor sadness. It is our belief the Great Spaniel will return in another incarnation one day and lead the Indian people again to glory and enlightenment.

Another great Mahatma is about to shed his light upon India! The Knight-Dragon!

OK, after action report:

Japan fell like a ton of bricks. Bam! Thanks for the GREAT tactical position Lee. Leaving Dehli undefended and attacking all-out was the correct move. It paid off big time.

I switched to settler because the temple in Kyoto would have took too damn long. We needed that wine before China got it and a buffer city. One city to block instead of access to our other two. Sorry it packed in tight, but its best this way.

My intention was to build a massive army in Bombay, however thats now up to others. Keeping the peace with China is an option. 50/50 chance we can beat them, and not easily. I would play it by ear.

IMPORTANT - The JAPANESE settler, not the Indian, could be used to make a colony on the iron. Our cultural expansion into that iron is a long, long way off.

The tax/science/luxury rates are set to 8/2/0 because we need the money right now, and science rate only increases from 21 turns to 19 at 90%. So its a waste to do anything else at this time.

Attacking China in my turn would have been suicide. They had spearmen and archers to our warriors. Now we will both have swordsmen. So it will be even for awhile, soon.

I recommend building a wonder now. In Dehli. I know it sounds crazy, but theres not much else to do. Colossus would make the most sense.

Good luck Knight-Dragon! Here it is!

We came to power amid little fanfare for our empire was in grave straits, helmed in to the east by the Chinese. Fearing for the safety of our imperial citizens in Bombay, we switched to city walls and also sent out our warriors to the east to recon in force.

2150 BC - Our warriors laid eyes on Shanghai, a mighty city of 3!
2110 BC - The Chinese demanded our departure, which we prompted complied with. It wasn't the time to force the issue. But we knew now Shanghai was only defended by warriors and that our forces outnumbered the Chinese .....
2070 BC - Warriors returned to Bombay; barracks built in Kyoto, now building spearmen. Our archers in Delhi were readied and rushed to Bombay, whilst another unit of archers were being trained.
2030 BC - Archers reached Bombay; a mass buildup was ordered.
1990 BC - We saw Chinese warriors recon outside Shanghai. Beware!
1950 BC - The warriors were awed by our massive border presence and left.
1910 BC - More archers. Now training spearmen in Delhi. Archers left for Bombay. Sent out warriors fr Bombay to recon in force again.
1870 BC - Finished walls in Bombay, building barracks. Our warriors reached the outskirts of Shanghai and sent word that only warriors defending the city of 4.
1830 BC - Sensing a kill, we moved in our army at the border - an awesome force of 2 archers, 1 spearmen and 1 warrior to join the advance party of warriors outside Shanghai. The Battle of Shanghai was about to commence!
1790 BC - The Chinese came whining but no one shalt resist our imperial destiny. Our forces attacked Shanghai and just in time! For their spearmen were readied and were sitting around waiting for the orders to be fortified. Our archers attked first and were wiped out in a heroic battle, weakening the defending Chinese spearmen. Our next force of archers took out the enemy spearmen, raising morale within the ranks of our army. After that, it was an easy job for our warriors to take our their fortified warriors and Shanghai was ours! We got the grapes. And then we moved in our remaining forces to occupy the city but the ppl of Shanghai resisted our forces.
1750 BC - Beyond Shanghai, across the coastal sea, a number of rude German warriors came into view. We contacted them but they had nothing to teach us. We knew they had 3 cities thru the diplo screen. For the time being, we shalt do nothing as they were still without our reach. Our spearmen in Delhi were ready and rushed south to reinforce our positions. We began training archers. In Shanghai, we sent out our warriors to scout and saw the borders of yet another Chinese city somewhere to the far east.
1725 BC - Our warriors met some Chinese warriors and defeated them.
1700 BC - Kyoto built spearmen and now were building archers. Our injured recon warriors saw another bunch of Chinese warriors and for the time being, gave no battle and withdrew. We knew Beijing was being defended by spearmen.
1675 BC - We quelled one resistor in Shanghai while our warriors returned to Shanghai under pursuit by vicious Chinese warriors. Our spearmen reached Shanghai whilst another was fortified in Bombay. Delhi was now building a temple while the archers who had been trained were now rushing to Shanghai to strengthen our southern defenses.
1650 BC - Rush-built a temple in Shanghai, sacrificing a Chinese citizen to the gods. The resistance at that point collapsed and Shanghai was ours for real and good.
1625 BC - Temple in Shanghai was finally finished. Now building workers. Fr wandering traders, we heard that the Chinese were building the Pyramids in Beijing and were gladden. No other military action was reported. We could also see the borders of a new German city somewhere to the east.
1600 BC - Our worker was now building a road to Shanghai, fr Bombay, escorted and protected by a worker. Archers reached Shanghai.
1575 BC - Our army moved out! 2 archers, 2 warriors, 1 spearmen heading towards Beijing to plunder and pillage.
1550 BC - Temple in Delhi finished. Building workers. Chnaged production in Kyoto to spearmen. We attked and destroyed Chinese warriors in our path to Beijing. No mercy!
1525 BC - The cultural borders of Shanghai expanded. The Chinese were building Pyramids again; they must have switched to spearmen in the meantime. We saw at least 2 spearmen in Beijing, one had been fortified. Our army moved further in and would pillage the next turn whilst our injured archers retreated back to our borders to rest.

All too soon, we passed fr our reign and the veins of power would be handed to the next emperor of India. But never fear for some day, we shalt return in the time of our empire's greatest need.

Items to note : -

1) Writing next turn. Finally. Recommend we go for map-making, to build ships to explore the southern shores visible across the seas south of Kyoto.
2) Refurnished the treasury. Got 170+ gold.
3) Cultural borders of Delhi will expand next turn. Get that iron! Workers are being prepared for the job and will be ready in Delhi next turn.
4) Germans have access to horses. Fr diplo screen. They are also annoyed with us but we can live with that. :)
5) Recommend we build a city on top of the ivory resource north of Delhi. Will give 4 free support units, get us the resource and prevent other civs fr settling in our backyard.
6) Since we got writing, can set up embassy with Germans and find out where's their capital. Maybe military alliance against the Chinese? We can take Beijing while they the other younger Chinese city. Also improve relations. Boy, am I wicked!
7) I think the Chinese has no iron .... Hadn't seen Chinese swordsmen yet.

GREAT JOB! You were able to pull it off, and Im humbly impressed. So far every player has left the next one in a good position to expand and suceed. Glad you heeded your instincts instead of halting like I did.

What great progress considering the poor starting position. Aggressive play style has paid off handsomely.

Great game so far!:goodjob: Love what you to guys did.

You usually expect some problems with different play styles / goals. However, with this map size, we all agree on mass attack. This game will end with a domination victory most likely. I think we should ALL plan on that goal. Part of the trick with domination victory is land within your borders. Plan on one culture building per city.

1 - I agree with map-making. This could be a very small world. Bombay will be able to build galleys.

5 - I agree - build the Ivory city next. Priority #1. This map has extreme danger of junk behind the line computer cities. Plus this city can build galleys. We need another port. Can't afford to lose that luxury.

Kyoto is set up perfect right know. Spearman finishes. Start temple. Next turn, whip out the temple. It will lets us get a temple in two turns. Gets the culture building here.

Good news is Germany so far appears to NOT have iron. Of course, it may just not be connected.

Next up - CornMaster

There wasn't anything for our archers to do <shrugs>. Saw Shanghai was being defended by fortified warriors (that's what the recon in force was all about :) ), so just moved in for the kill. Now that Beijing is busy building the Pyramids, they won't be building units to retalliate so I think we can have some time to get out those swordsmen. While our army pillaged their improvements.

We now have a source of Iron!!!

The Chinese killed two warriors, and then offered peace. So I accepted. Got the science rate out of the gutter!! 10%!! Up to 80%. Save us 15 turns researching. Working on Philo. Going to get MapMaking next.

^----Before Turn 8----^

Turn 13 News: Germans tried to build a city near our borders.....drove them away. Discovered Philo, starting Pottery (to get Map Making)

Final News.

Just finished turn. Working on map making. Also building a settler I planed to put on a boat to take to land to the west. Have 4 units patrolling the border to the south near China. Now, Germans are trying to sneak a settler and warrior past our borders so I'm moving a unit back and forth the keep them back. If you miss a time and don't match the German's moves...they will slip by and we will have to declare war!! So watch that situation VERY CLOSELY!!! Also building some Swordmans.....incase of emergency.

Next up - SkidiWili

The other decision - That ivory near Delhi. Once the computer gets mapmaking, he will find that spot. That also should be high on the list. Plus a second luxury looks real nice :)

The big decision - When to hit Beijing again  We our out of expansion room except through China.

:goodjob: I am glad to see the Pyramids from a size 5 city. When the city grows, use the forrest until the hill is on-line. I have lost to many wonders by a single turn or two. That extra production will be key.

I might get a turn tonight. SkidiWili was quick in the other succession game he is playing.

SkidiWili, I caught a great setup by CornMaster. Bombay can start a galley instantly after the swordsman. You may have to build something else temp, but he is right. We need to hope one of those other islands is empty.

That was the plan. Just make sure you take an archer, or swordman or something with it so the Settler isn't captured if the island isn't empty.

-900BC New way of life:the SkidiWili, whips and soldiers are increased greatly in number during his reign.
-850BC War with Chinese. Why spare 'em?
-800BC Demanded the German to leave our lands. They declared a war. It's so nice that they give free workers. Upgraded warriors to swordmen
-710BC Built a colony at the ivory.
-690BC Beijing saw the wisdom of joining us after multiple battles.
10.turns
-650BC Peace with China, they bought it with 81 gold+3/turn. Turned my full attention towards Germany. Started to build temple in Beijing to gain some cultural uphand over the Chinese.
-550BC Koningsberg ahead!
-510BC map making invented. Towards Literature

The SkidiWili's reign ends. The tyrant decides to become a fisher rather than a world dominator. A new ruler is sought.

Those two Chinese cities look delicious... Maybe they don't need them. Let's send some swormen to ask...

Skidwilli, why the colony for Ivory? A city, though small, still could have build troops. I have never used a colony.

Where did the irrigation come from? Useless under Despotism. I change to mining near Shangai.

470 BC - We whip out a galley. We need to look at the other nearby land.

450 BC - Kill 2 German archers at no cost. I switch to get more Barracks built. This may very well be a military win, and I want to produce veteran troops. Watch the Chinese. They are trying to slip a settler through our borders! ARGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!! The Pyramids are built. Won't I ever get that in a succession game? At least, we had a new target. The Oracle is built in one turn.

410 BC - More gifts from our German friends. 2 more workers, and a dead spearman.

390 BC - Another dead German archer. Madras is formed. Building a temple. We have horses in the future.

330 BC - We get Horseback riding from China for $23, territory map, and Wines. Konigsberg falls costing us 1 swordsman, and Germany - 1 archer, 2 spearman and $9

310 BC- More dead German archers for nothing.

290 BC - The Germans have horses!

270 BC - A conscript horseman from a tribe. Should be a fast explorer. We have plenty land to look at.

210 BC - Leipzig falls. But we loses an elite swordsman in the process :(

190 BC - I begin Polytheism heading to Monarchy. So far the Persians are the only other person to build a wonder. Delhi would grow another unhappy laborer, so I concentrated on production. The great library is on its way.

170 BC - Right of passed with China There are enough spearman to keep China away from us. Don't move them.

150 BC - WAHOO! A great leader. Chandragupta is ours!

130 BC - First contact with the Zulu. We gain Mathematics and Code of Laws.

90 BC. First contact with Babylon, then Persians and Russians. Get a very good map of the world, without giving up our map. We are in much better shape to watch the race for wonders.

We know of all but one of the civs now. :)

Goals - Sorry, these are so long. But I have setup India in GREAT SHAPE!

1 - Get Madras a harbor. Citizen #5 is a entertainer, so no production loss. Whip out the harbor when it will cost 1 pop. We need galley #2 that Madras has queued. Plus we may be able to trade our excess wine with somebody when the harbor is built.

2 - Kyoto is building a settler. This is reserved for the horse and iron island. The galley by Nanking must move north to join it. Place the city where the archer is sitting. Build a temple, and we can culture lock this island.

3 - Cancel wines with China as soon as you can. Cancel the right of passage.

4 - The worker by Canton will let us connect the goodies from Germany. Finish that road.

5 - Explore the island south of Nanking with the horseman. If nobody is there, we will be in great shape.

6 - Finish off Germany. I made great progress. 2 conquered cities, and Berlin is sighted. Troops should be healed in a couple of turns.

7 - You have to decide about landing on the island with Zululand. Of course, keeping horses out of his hands ...

8 - The biggie. We are in unreal wonder shape. 4 turn to Colossus. Start and leader rush building the Great Library. Excellent shape for culture, and a chance for a 20,000 point Delhi.
I you don't pull this one off, you will see a grown man cry.
Keep building culture buildings here!

9 - I lowered science to 10%, as nothing helps. However, I hope we can be the first to Monarch and Hanging gardens.

MAP LOCK - Don't trade world map.
I don't want the world to know our island of horses and Iron until locked by us. We must get the second city with Horses / Iron.

EDIT: Out of date attachment deleted.

Well I assume if joe wants to drop out, he would have PM you, Lee. And BTW, what a great game setup! Note - no more unknown civs cos we killed off the Japs, remember?

Hark! For the conqueror of Shanghai hath returneth!

70 BC - The Russians are building the Great Library. Horsemen pop a barb village on the island east of Nanjing but only got a lousy map. It's a smallish island with plains mostly. Note - for future city site cos of potential resources. Also lost a swordsmen to archers sallying forth fr Berlin.

50 BC - Killed 2 spearmen in Berlin.

30 BC - Killed another archer outside Berlin.

10 BC - Colossus completed in Delhi. We have a Golden Age! The Persians are building the Great Library. Hurrying prod of the Great Library using our GL (since an Army won't be much use to us on this smallish world). Also our archers pop a barb village on the Zulu island and gotten us 50 gold.

10 AD - Built the Great Library in Delhi.

50 AD - Nanking has submitted to us! Founded Bangalore on the island of horse and iron.

70 AD - Horsemen attked Leipzig. Lost our spearmen but our swordsmen sallied forth and killed them.

110 AD - Got monarchy fr the Great Library. Chging govt. Also, we captured Berlin! But lost one elite swordsmen. And captured 1 more worker.

130 AD - Germans building the Great Lighthouse in Hamburg. Huh?

210 AD - We have captured Hamburg! But it isn't the last of the Germans. They have cities across the seas. We need a navy to carry the war to them fast .... Also captured a settler so we got 2 new workers.

End.

Note - I only took 15 turns cos each turn now takes up more time. More chances my fellow-rulers to savour our moment of greatness. :) Also settler being built in Bombay is meant for the jungle island S-W of Kyoto. To claim it for possible coal in the future.

LKendter
Dec 01, 2001, 12:06 AM
Up next - CornMaster May the wonders be with you, and we get great Lighthouse. The odds are a small island somewhere of value.

Knight-Dragon :goodjob: Great news with "Nanking has submitted to us!" You did it right, and lots of culture around Canton. I did PM JoeSpaniel about his status like you suggested. Very good idea with the jungle island, to claim it for possible coal in the future. Plus I think rubber is from the jungle.

See if we can suck some money from China for wines.

:enlighten Perform Diplomacy with Germany. Looking at the game, I found the city. :enlighten We can kill Germany, hopefully for good.

Move a 2nd miltary unit to Delhi, so that it will expand to size 8 without riots.

22 culture a turn from Delhi is nice! Keep this up and 20000 culture is possible. Our culture histograph is unreal. More wonders from Delhi and culture of 20000 / 100000 is very possible!

We are a monarchy now so we can post more military police in cities. Suggest we might as well get rid of the Chinese in Canton and keep the entire island continent for ourselves. :D

We can put out 2 more cities IMHO, the jungle island SW of Kyoto and the plains island east of Nanjing. Better claim them before the other civs come along. ;) I was also thinking of claiming the remaining desert portion of the Zulu-Bab island to the W of Delhi but we probably won't make it before it's totally claimed. :(

BTW, rubber is also fr forests. Don't really understand since rubber trees can only grow in the tropics (Msia is the world's no 1 producer of natural rubber) and once I got rubber tiles fr close to the artic (in another game). :crazyeyes

SkidiWili once again raises to power by some mystic, but still mundane ways.

230AD -It seems that the nice Germans have colonized an island for us. I'm going to send few swordman to persuarde the city to join our civilization.
260AD -We invented Construction and we started to head towards Currency. Tokyo started to build Hanging Gardens.
270AD -I failed to see any reason for existance of the Chinese. Canton was captured and their influence ends.
310AD -Currency invented and the great Indian cilization reaches the Middle Ages! Started to invent Feudalism.
320AD -The Golden Age ends... Frankfurt is captured and the German civilization is wiped out.
350AD -Persians build the Great Lighthouse... I changed the building to Hanging Gardens, which take just 3 turns to complete. Changed the Tokyo to build Great Wall. (I know it sucks, but there isn't any better)
360AD -Babylonians are building the Great Wall
370AD -Babylonians build the Great Wall. They must have rushed it with GL. The Russians are weak, and they tried to steal a great place for city from us. I declared a war on them.
380AD -The Hanging Gardens built in Delhi! Tokyo started to build Forbidden palace to store some shields for Sun Tzu's Art of War or some other wonder. Do not let Tokyo actually finish the Forbidden palace.
420AD -Sverdlovsk captured from the Russians. Made peace with the Russians. I don't think it would have been our best intrest to continue such meaningless war with them.
430AD -The reign of SkidiWili is over. SkidiWili loses his way in his newly built gardens and the people take this opportunity quickly. New leader is elected.

430 AD - We buy Monotheism from Persia for an expensive 151 3/turn, but I want Sistine Chapel! Man, the Russians are worthless - 3 cities, want to buy Currency? Not a player this game. Zululand just as meaningless - they want currency. I won't help Zululand for $13. However, I do trade maps to improve out world knowledge.

440 AD - The Great Library earns it worth again. Republic for nothing :)

470 AD - I trade Zululand the Republic for $13. Not much money, but they border on Persia. Our biggest threat.

480 AD - What a waste. I send a swordsman down to the island with a tribe to get an angry tribe.

520 AD - Switch to Republic, and science still at 50%.

530 AD - Lahore is formed in the jungle area. I want the potential coal / rubber.

560 AD - Persia declares war because we refuse to give him Feudalism. $50 from a tribe on the new island I found, giving me enough money for embassies. I sell the world maps for a few bucks. I give Babylon Feudalism to declare war on Persia. Zululand does it for nothing. Sistine chapel started in Delhi.

570 AD. Get a couple of more bucks. Embassy in Russia, and they join the party vs. Persia.

580 AD. Ouch. Persia lands 2 units by Leipzig.

590 AD. Killed the Spearman, 1 hit immortal kills a 3 hit swordsman. $10 for world maps.

600 AD. Immortal fails to kill spearman.

Goals - Improve revenue. Navigation to trade all of that wine. I am working on Chivalry to get war elephants. Defensive war to stop Persia from landing.

Micro manage Kyoto / Delhi to get those improvements.

Explore the last two spots of the southern Island.

We need every buck we can to upgrade / rush units. Keep trying to sell world map. We have nothing to hide. I have been giving away territory map to improve relationships. Russia is downgraded to Annoyed.

Hoard techs We may need them to encourage more wars versus Persia.

Minor competition for Sun Tzu! Nothing for Sistine Chapel.

Please do NOT automate workers.

I found this is my Greek game. The automated workers are very stupid such as over mining mountains and hills that a city can not use. I plan to make this a ground rule in future games.

Reign of the Insignificant

Highlights : -

620 Founded Karachi on the island of Nanking.

640 Galley sank in deep waters. Fortunately our elite swordsmen weren't on it; left them behind to 'hold' our prospective big new island far far to the SE. Robinson Crusoes will have to struggle to live there while we get help to them. I christianed the island the New World.

650 Settler fr Beijing setting off for New World. Upgraded a few vet spearmen to pikes. Note - don't upgrade reg units; might as well build new vet ones. Our Art of War is coming along.

680 Russians wanted to exch world maps with us. We declined.

700 Building the Forbidden Palace in Nanking. Will take an eternity but I think it's a good site for a second capital considering our 'islands' expansion.

730 Persian galley hit our galley carrying settlers and pikes. After a ferocious battle, they sank our galley and limped away with 1 hp left. *&&^^#%!^@%#%#%

740 Zulus building the Art of War too. 2nd settler ready to settle the New World. Our Robinson Crusoes are still there ...... waiting for help. Note - two galleys near Nanking; send both, one as escort to pave the way.

750 We got our first war elephants! Persian galley sighted off Bangalore! Watch out!

I didn't even see one Persian ground unit. Some war .....

Nanking can be improved for speed. Instead of 145 turns, I cut it down to 97. Switch production from Irrigated grassland to the mined grassland. I tried adding the hill, but it didn't help. 48 less turns is a lot! :enlighten

We need to get a galley stationed by the Madras Island, and it is just 8 turns away. Keep it parked by the island.

:goodjob: I am glad you saw what I was up to with the irrigation.

Great news #1 in score, off the scale with Culture. Only "weakness" may be power vs. Persia. #1 in science. We may finish Sistine chappel before anyone else knows about it :)

Good point. Missed that but then only have 1 or 2 turns left when I logged off the game, so can't do much anyhow. Next player, keep note.

":goodjob: I am glad you saw what I was up to with the irrigation."

Actually it took me awhile. Problem with succession games is keeps getting 'disoriented' when it's my turn ...

The Persians aren't on the same continent as us, no need to worry too much. Besides most of their 'power' is prob made up of obsolete units. :)

Suggestion - send our obsolete units (reg spearmen) to their island to wreck havoc, help our allies and keep them off balance. But we need to control the seas first. And get that New World. :)

760 AD - Check out the current trading. Nothing of interest to do.

820 AD - Babylon signs a peace treaty with Persia.

830 AD - Russia is out of the game, Persia kills them. We have built Sun Tzu's Art of War :) I take advantage and upgrade all phalanx to pikeman on the main island.

840 AD - Kolhapur is formed on a small island.

850 AD - I just optimized the forbidden palace production in Nanking to save a few turns.

860 AD - I actually fight Persia. Lose 1 galley for each side.

870 AD - I form a desert city of Jaipur. Lousy growth, but possible oil / saltpeter. Trying to set up for a culture flipping city.

880 AD - Rush build a temple in Japiur.

890 AD - WTH??? Zululand threatens us, and declares war?

900 AD - I attempt peace with Persia, but no way I will give him a thing. We may need to invade Persia soon.

920 AD - Peace with Persia. Hate to give him Engineering, but Bangalore would fall elsewise.

940 AD - Start reinforcing that island.

950 AD - We build the Sistine chappel. I started a colusseum in Delhi as we have a chance for 20000 point city. I am sending two luxuries to Persia for a few dollars, and some per turn money. This should keep him behind in the tech war.

Summary
Reinforce Bangalore island.

Harder to keep track of per year stuff, so I'm just gonna give a summary of what went down.

Changed all our cities, but those very close to finishing a building to swordsmen and elephants (those on the main island anyway).
Pumped out some Galleys and, starting landing large amounts of troop on the Babylonian island west of us. All Babylonian cities on that island are gone now. Persia is now in our good graces (gracious), cost me chivalry :(. At least now they dont expect whats gonna happen next. The small Bab city to our north is gone also. The Zulus are no longer also. Persia is working on the Babs on thier main island, and the Babs should be nothing but a memory soon. Got Persia's territory map too.
Just us and Persia left. I have a huge army on the persian main island, and hopefully the next person can do some damage with it, still 6 or 8 units waiting to land on the northeast side of the island. The city building Leonardos is starving, but I say let em, doesnt effect production, and Delphi is build Copernicus' right now. I stopped building military on the main island, they are all now building improvements. We're still ahead in science, and Persia still does not have invention.
I didn't research Gunpowder yet. I founded a city on the old Bab island, in a better spot. We're in a good position to start killing persia, but it's going to be a long fight, they are well armed. Immortals everywhere, they are focusing on finishing Bab right now though.
Good luck next guy.

Well that was most unexpected. I never even thought about taking out Babylon. I saw them as a distraction for Persia. ;)

I am not sure why a palace is building in Bombay. We are not close to ANY wonders. Please change to University.

BEFORE hitting Persia - I would like a few units on the island to stop Persian harrasement. Troop wise, we would lose most of our military right know.

I think next up is some new cities. One on the Persia island - to insure a barracks and troop upgrades / repairs. One more on the former Babylon island - next to the iron. I don't want to risk iron going away.

 Where will Saltpeter show up?

The latter half of the 12th century and the first half of the 13th century was a tranquil and peaceful time for India. The Great Dhondi lived during part of this period and inspired the building of libraries and universities. He also encouraged Indians to go forth, as their ancestors had, and found new cities in order to bring even greater glory to India. Bands of settlers were organized and stared on their long journies towards the open lands both east and west...

I think it is time to tell Perisa to leave the Bangalore island.

How about an embassy with Persia so that we can track there war status versus Babylon?

We should get a least one or two cities building military. War with Persia is known. The only question is when.

Hobbes
Dec 11, 2001, 08:40 PM
The answer to the above question is now. The Babs no longer exist, it is just us and the Persians (and their immortals). Everything was going along peacefully until 1325, when the Persians declared war on us. The city that we found on their main island is under attack at this very moment. In anticipation of this event, I have stockpiled troops in this city. I had to retreat from the surrounding area in order to present a better defense. We have walls and barracks and a bunch of troops. Do no let our swordsmen attack a stack of less than two, otherwise we will lose that swordsmen. Save the single stacks for the war elephants. I am in the process of building our military, where available, and would advise and soon as projects are complete switch to units. As soon as we got the workshop, I began upgrading our troops, so we have a fair number of musketmen, but less money. Well, whoever is taking over next, good luck, it should be a good fight.

1250 – Establish embassy with Persia, find out that they have 27 turns to finish the workshop, so unless they get a GL we will have it. Send settler towards Persian Island to form city (in hindsight should of put city on hill).

1265 – Bengal founded (Hey Xerxes, :midfinger ).

1285 – Complete the workshop, process of upgrading our military begins. Rush Temple of Ganash (Indian elephant God) at Bengal.

1290 – Babylon asks for peace, we agree. The real battle will be with Persia.

1300 - Musketmen are being sent from our main island to Bengal for expected war. Rush barracks.

1325 – First musketmen arrive at Bengal, Persia declares war. Persia launches a massive attack against our defensive perimeter. Our troops in the mountains put up a good fight, but take loses.

1330 – Kill off two knights, few immortals, spearmen but our perimeter is getting hit, decision is made to retreat to Bengal.

1335 – Defensive retreat. We lose a few units, the Persians lose more.

1340 – Retreat is complete. Troops are given a chance to heal, more reinforcements arrive.

1345 – Persian troops move to the outskirts of Bengal. We stay inside.

1350 – Persia has stacked troops outside of Bengal (mostly immortals and a few spearmen), though they are located on hills our WE make short work of their two spearmen. Our swordsmen then go into attack the immortals, six are killed to none of our swordsmen. :hammer:

LKendter
Dec 11, 2001, 11:02 PM
Lee comes to a world filled with war, and there will only be a single winner.

1355 - The persians start destroying improvements by Bengal. I am not surprised at all.

1360 - The Persian commit suicide at Bengal. The attrition is favoring us so far. Punjab sees 2 units land, and falls to Persia :(

1365 - We are alreading getting screwed on War Weariness. I thought Persia declared war? It is revolution time, and back to Monarchy. We lost a War Elephant for 2 knights.

1370 - We lose a galley with a swordmans loaded onboard, and don't score a hit :(

1375 - Shivaji comes to lead our glorious troops in battle. He leads the 1st WE army.

1380 - The order of Indian cross is given to the 2nd Elephant division. The defense on the hills of Bengal kill a Knight and an Immortal. Persia must be hurting, as they ask for peace. Why bother?

1385 - The menacing Persian galley SINKS by Bengal. Our troops convoys are safe again. We are broke again, as I rush a War Elephant in a crap production city.

1390 - The Heroic epic begins in Delhi. We can use every possible leader.

1405 - Shivaji army comes back to rest, after killing several Persian units.

1420 - The knight from Hell. Our army is beat down to 3 hits points killing a lone knight. WTF?

1435 - Start researching Military tradition. Does anything else matter?

1440 - Scratch 2 persian galleys.

1445 - The forbidden palace is finally built. I capture and disband a worker. Shivaji army attacks with other WE and RAZES Hlobane. A size 6 city would have to many happy problems. Finally, a real blow against Persia :)

20
1450 - Shivaji and other WE raze Uruk. A raiding force pilages the road above Nineveh, taking 4 cities out of the Persian network. They are heading back to Bengal to recover.

Summary:
At this point, peace with Persia is meaningless. Skip the optional crap like Democracy, Free Artistry, and Economics.

Nanking is building cannons. With the goal of a few in key cities having extra defense.

The ship north of Bengal is to explore the island with Ergilli on it. This may be target to raze. This will be military victory, not domination. We need to cleanup the garbage

Keep building the Caravels and War Elephants.

Keep building cash. I would like the option to upgrade all those War Elephants in Bengal. :flamedevi:

Up next - Knight-Dragon .

As long as we don't get too aggressive, Persia will die. My 20 years went well - A great leader, the size of the attack on Bengal fizzled, the attrition is clearly favoring us, and Persia lost 2 cities.

1465 Built Heroic Epic in Delhi! Building Magellan's Voyage now.

1475 Captured and razed Bapedi. Captured 4 workers.

1480 Captured and razed Ellipi. Captured worker and catapult.

1500 Researching physics now (to get to next Age ASAP). Delhi switching to Military Academy :D. Bought harbor in Bengal for 200+ gold. Captured and razed Zimbabwe. Bloody city is on a hill!? Fortunately didn't lose too much (cos its our Army attking).

1520 Captured and razed Ulundi. Captured 2 workers.

I took over, continued our almost 100% military production, and moved west and south on the Persian mainland.
In 1570 Great Leader Porus joined our ranks, and formed the first Cavalry army. The 2 armies along with some artillery support are continuing moving west, with some Cavalry and Musket following.
We finished the Militray Academy and are now building yet another army in that city, should be done soon. Navigation is almost researched, and we should upgrade our transport capacity. It's only a matter of time before the Persians fall.
There is also a small troop movement on the islands in the south. One of the islands has been decimated, but the ship was destoyed, another is on the way. I have both armies fortified and healing before someone moves them west to finish the job. The Persian Incense camps are being pestered by a lone Cavalry, and he will need back-up soon.
2 Caravels full of Cavalry are making their way towards Bengal, might be wise to unload them closer to the front. Barbarian are making camps everytime I destroy them south of Bengal, and a 2nd city was founded west of Bengal to bring in Dye to our mainland. I have Cavalry fortified in those mountains to keep the Barbarians at bay.
I captured and kept Babylon (has the Great Wall), but it is under attack from Persian Immortals every so often. An Elite Cavalry gaurds it solely.
Push forward next guy, the end is near.

1665 AD: Barbarian killed. Hamadan liberated. (I didn't raze it because I like the name.:) )

1670 AD: Troops land near Antioch. Killed knight, lost cavalry. Captured Persepolis. Kept it because of the lighthouse.

We won! Defeated the last of the Persians in 1740 AD. I did not have to go to the island and take the last two cities. When the Persians had one city on the mainland and two island cities, I offered a peace treaty for the two island cities, he took it (Ha Ha) :). It was all over but the shouting. LKendter
Dec 13, 2001, 11:00 PM
I never expect Persia to fold like that either. That is why most of my time was getting a favorable war of attrition.

What is funny - 1625 AD and Delhi was producing 71 culture a turn, with 8897 total. Magellan voyage and colusuem not built yet. We should have been able to get a 20000 point city.

I must agree our position was crappy. I was in shock when my initial 20 moves found a city border. I am glad I went for the instant war with Japan. I usually avoid early wars, as they do to more damage to a position. However, this time, I think it was key. 4 civs on our island was ABSURD!

Knight-Dragon
Dec 13, 2001, 11:06 PM
It sure was absurd like hell. It's a good thing we went on the warpath instantly all the way. Otherwise, we'll be forever a medicore power on the edge of that island.

I think once Persia's initial offensive forces were finished off at Bengal, they had only defensive forces left and was in the process of building knights. When I was rolling thru west of Bengal, they did send some knights but we got more forces. :D I also got muskets to follow to cover the retreat of our forces (just in case). ;)

This must be the 1st succession game that's been finished nicely here. Shld we post it to the HOF site? :D
