View Full Version : Office of the President, Term 4.
Sir Donald III Oct 29, 2004, 11:42 PM What the heck have I gotten myself into?
Anyway, this is the thread for discussing Worker actions and other Presidental Matters.
And, for a limited time only, I will be accepting applications for a Vice President!
I expect 1 thing and 1 thing only from a VP: Follow All the posted instructions, including, and especially mine.
Those that want to run their own Turnchat need not apply. (Except Civantor or Donsig.)
Actually, there is that little old saying "if you want something done right, do it yourself." So, odds are that the VP position would be mostly ceremonial. Unless you want to assist me in Worker planning.
Nobody Oct 30, 2004, 12:50 AM Congratulations Mr President (elect)
.................................................. ..................
If i spelt congratulations wrong i will fix it when i edit out the elect
Ashburnham Oct 30, 2004, 02:46 AM Congratulations, SD3. Based on your excellent work as the former Domestic Minister, I can wholeheartedly say that I look forward to the achievements the Donald administration will no doubt accomplish.

invy Oct 31, 2004, 02:00 AM Congrats SirDon!
MOTH Oct 31, 2004, 08:53 PM Congratulations on your election to the office of president.
Speaking as Mayor of Epolenep I would like to request that 3 hills and one diamond mountain be mined. This fine city was the 4th city founded in our nation and most of our citizens are still working unimproved tiles.
Thanks for your consideration of this request.
MOTH
Mayor of Epolenep.
Chieftess Oct 31, 2004, 09:29 PM What the heck have I gotten myself into?
Ahh, here's my condolences, and congrats!
If you can't make it to a chat, don't leave the week without a chat. Let your VP or someone in the CoC take over.
snipelfritz Oct 31, 2004, 10:53 PM Congratumalations Sir Don the Two and First,
Ahh I can remember when both of us were starting out in the Demogame with a post count of about 30...
No seriously I can, I think it was about a month ago. :D
Provolution Oct 31, 2004, 10:56 PM Don
My I have you as a godfather to my firstborn child? I hope I can serve you well, and those who do not behave, should sleep with the fishes (Godfather lingo)
Strider Nov 01, 2004, 03:49 PM I will be willing to act as a scribe, although I may not beable to attend most turnchats, I am still online 24/7, and can get the log.
Civanator Nov 01, 2004, 04:58 PM I guess I'll apply for Vice President.
Cyc Nov 01, 2004, 10:45 PM Mr. President, I realize you refused to answer my last post in this thread, but I certainly hope you respond to this one.
In trying to work up a military plan for the Provinces of Zarnia and Kitakinu, I took a screenshot of the area so as to mark a recommend railway. This railway would be designed to facilitate a strong defense of the area, as well as a means of supplying new troops should war ever break out. In placing the rail suggestions, I noticed a Worker(s) building road through a forest in between 3 cities (please see the YELLOW square in the pic below). Problem is, this forest does not fall within the city boundries of any of those cities. First of all, as our ex-President CT pointed out, building a railway through an unimproved tile is useless. Second of all why would you waste the time and labor of this Worker if that tile will not be within a cities boundries. Please stop the work being done in this forest, otherwise we will have a wasted railed tile, similar to to wasted roaded Mountain tile CT worked on in Term 2 (SE of Zojoji). I await your response.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads8/militaryrails.jpg
CivGeneral Nov 01, 2004, 10:47 PM I guess I'll apply for Vice President.
 I was expeccting Sir Don III to directly appoint you
Sir Donald III Nov 01, 2004, 10:50 PM That team, IIRC, consists of 1 Regular and 2 Roman Workers. I'll see what I can do... ;)
TimBentley Nov 01, 2004, 11:10 PM I would like to suggest a couple of minor, poorly drawn changes to Cyc's map to railroad more mines and less irrigation and save a few worker turns.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads8/militaryrails2.JPG
And speaking of wasted worker actions, those workers on the mountain are wasting their time, as Bentropolis shouldn't use that tile until it reaches size 15 or something like that. Since the road is almost complete, you might as well let them finish, but don't mine it.
Civanator Nov 03, 2004, 04:56 PM Well CG, he hasn't appointed anyone as of yet and he is accepting anyone who applies ;). But SD3 hasn't said anything yet...
Sir Donald III Nov 03, 2004, 05:02 PM I know. I'm biding my time. Though I shouldn't have to do so any longer.
I should probably call General (or is it Admiral) Provolution ;)
Cyc Nov 03, 2004, 05:03 PM Well, TimBentely, I do need rails out to that mine SW of Mpondo. You can take the hill route if you wish.
CivGeneral Nov 04, 2004, 10:16 PM I would like to request a turnchat scedual so that I can plan ahead with instructions and polls.
Thanks :).
Sir Donald III Nov 05, 2004, 12:11 AM Only now got back from work. Sorry, guys.
Turnchat #2 will be Monday Afternoon CST, starting around 1:00 PM (1900 GMT), time may change.
There may be a second part, should FA feel the need to poll a peace deal we would make in Turn 1/2. The Second Part, if needed, would be played at 6:30 PM CST (0030 Thursday GMT)
donsig Nov 05, 2004, 01:29 PM Dear Sir,
In going over our country's current financial situation I've discovered some, how shall I put this, irregularities. Our Trade Minister left detailed instructions for trades that do not seem to have been carried out properly.
In particular the following trades were authorized by the poll referred to in the Trade Minister's instructions:
China: Silks for 14gpt, 90g
France: Gems for 36gpt, 12g
France: Magnetism for Navigation, Maps, 33gpt
Looking over the books it appears as though we sold the silks to China for 13 gpt. We're also getting 52 gpt from France for gems. I'm not sure what happened to the export of magnetism and navigation to France.
Now I know you're new at this president stuff but you should be following instructions that are posted and not just doing whatever you fancy at the moment. Can you shed some light on why you disregarded legally posted instructions?

Hi Donsig,
The orders in question were not able to be carried out as the game would not accept the amounts. I beleive that this variation was within reason. I also believe that Trade should have posted some contingencies.
The relevant portion of the chat log is as follows:
[09:25] <SirDon3> Zojoji: Magellan's Voyage, Frigate, Galleon
[09:25] <SirDon3> Quick Diversion to Trade!
[09:26] <SirDon3> Please do the trades that are the result of this
[09:26] <SirDon3> China: Silks for 14gpt, 90g
[09:27] <SirDon3> The Trade as stated says "We're getting Close to a Deal."
[09:28] <SirDon3> 13 GPT is acceptable. (Mao originally offered 10.)
[09:29] <SirDon3> Trade Completed for 13 GPT and 90 Gold
[09:29] <SirDon3> France: Gems for 36gpt, 12g
[09:29] <SirDon3> France: Magnetism for Navigation, Maps, 33gpt
[09:29] <SirDon3> Should total 69 GPT, 12 Gold, Navi, WM
[09:30] <MOTH> hmm, when I put the China trade into ptw it accepts 14gpt and
90g...
[09:32] <SirDon3> Magnets + Gems = 37 GPT + Navi + 50 Gold
[09:32] <MOTH> I checking some of the french trades now
[09:32] <SirDon3> 69 GPT + Navi = "Doubt"
[09:34] <SirDon3> Version is 1.29f
[09:34] <MOTH> version = ptw
[09:34] <SirDon3> What's your version, MOTH?
[09:34] <SirDon3> AH!
[09:35] <SirDon3> I'm using Vanilla (as I should.)
[09:35] <MOTH> gms+mag = nav, wm, 50g, 50gpt
[09:35] <MOTH> I have Civ Gold, so I can't run vanilla
[09:35] <SirDon3> Ah...
[09:35] <SirDon3> That's a problem...
[09:36] <MOTH> my numbers are still not close to trade's
[09:37] <SirDon3> 52GPT + 50 Gold, WM, Navi = "Close"
[09:37] <MOTH> does 50gpt work
[09:37] <SirDon3> 52 GPT + 12 Gold + WM, Navi = Accceptable
[09:38] <MOTH> do it
[09:38] <SirDon3> Navi + 52 GPT + 35 Gold + WM is the highest she'll go.
[09:38] <MOTH> trade really should include contingencies...
[09:39] <SirDon3> Done.
[09:39] <SirDon3> Rome gets Education
[09:41] <SirDon3> "This kind rift will do much to heal the rift between our
people" says Agustus (I hold Julius to have dies at Raveena/Port Solmena)
but he's still "Furious
[09:41] <SirDon3> Anyway, back to Zarnia!
[09:41] <SirDon3> Zojoji: Magellan's Voyage, Frigate, Galleon
Chieftess Nov 05, 2004, 05:14 PM The amounts were different because the trade advisor apparently lives in an alternate reality called Play The World. ;)
Seriously though, he used PTW to do the trades. (Bad idea - different trade routines).
donsig Nov 05, 2004, 05:21 PM Well, thank you Mr. and Mrs. President. I've been on vacation. For some stupid reason I thought Sir Donald III was President! Now that Chieftess has answered I know why legally posted instructions were ignored.

 and just what is that supposed to mean?
donsig Nov 05, 2004, 05:37 PM  and just what is that supposed to mean?
It means what you think it means. You have a *habit* as DP of ignoring instructions you don't like. Especially build queues. You've been doing it and getting away with it since DG2. Since you're the demogame's version of the Teflon President I'd expect you to make whatever trades you wanted or build whatever you wanted in cities or conquer whatever cities you wanted.
I was silly to think that with a new President we'd go back to a real democracy game. Now that I know you're still president, Chieftess, I won't expect posted instructions to be followed.
TimBentley Nov 05, 2004, 05:47 PM Just because Chieftess tried to explain why the posted instructions were impossible to follow exactly as written you think instructions were ignored? I can't think of what instructions for the most recently completed turnchat were ignored. Maybe DZ's instructions, since the Iroquois are still alive?
donsig Nov 05, 2004, 06:04 PM The question I asked the President concerned specific trades. The Trade Minister followed the apparently legal, though admittedly irresponsible, route of posting instructions that pointed to a poll where specific trades we're voted on. The SPECIFIC trades were not followed and I would like to hear from the REAL President why that happened. Or has the *democracy* game progressed tot he point where citizens should no longer ask such questions of their elected leaders?

Uhh, if you take a look at the last elections, I didn't even run...
I was merely stating the technical differences between vanilla and PTW.
Not to mention it would be hard to play the save while I'm at work.
Crimso Nov 05, 2004, 07:37 PM You are not listening! The WOtP was ignored! He was asking the PRESIDENT! Grrr!
mhcarver Nov 05, 2004, 08:05 PM Edit: never mind this post it would only inflame the situation more, umm GO SDIII!!!!!!
MOTH Nov 05, 2004, 08:24 PM I think everyone needs to relax. There's no need for personal attacks. I was just trying to help out. CT was trying to help out. The answer to donsig's question is available for anyone who wants to read the chat log.

donsig,
Perhaps the lack of response stems from the fact that you didn't sign the Loyalty Oath before entering the Oval Office? :mischief: :D
Just because the DG happens to mirror the current RL situation in the States, I wouldn't read too much into the lack of accountability of this administration. I am sure that our President would be more than happy to "reach out to those who share [his] goals."
Actual, lumping SD3 with Dubya is a cheap shot; I am just playing to the disenfranchised here. Although I am curious as to Sir Donald's silence regarding this accusation, and was also wondering when he was planning on naming a Vice President.
Sir Donald III Nov 05, 2004, 11:25 PM The reason why I was 'silent' was because the entire dicsussion occurred while I was at work! Some of us have real lives here, Ok? Jeez. Do you guys really expect the President to be full time here?
I guess I should've posted the fact that the trades deviated in the Summary, but I had a work shift then that started in 30 minutes, and so lacked for time. Lesson learned, I think...
On DZ's question, I have informed a certain candidate via PM this morning (CCed to the Chief Justice) and am awaiting his response.

Funny, my PM box wasn't full. Could you send it again? I am available. :D
Yes, I tried to be President once while having a life. It's no picnic. Just do what you can, and make sure that trade discrepancies do not exceed 5g total. ;)
Sir Donald III Nov 06, 2004, 12:03 AM Should've said something yesterday, DZ. Someone else beat you to it.

No I don't expect you to be full time, Mr. President. I was perfectly happy to wait for your response. I only wanted those who forget they are not President to SHUT UP while we wait to hear from you.
That said, I would still like to hear your answer to my question. Yes, it would have been nice if you had posted in the summary that the trades deviated. You didn't and at least one of us noticed anyway. I din not ask if the trades deviated. That is apparent. WHY do they deviate? The people voted on specific trades which were not only NOT made, OTHER trades WERE made. Please explain to me WHY the trades that WERE made were LEGAL so I don't have to ask the Judiciary to look into this matter.
MOTH Nov 06, 2004, 06:12 AM Mr president,
I urge you to make official appointments (as provided in Constitution Article G.4) to the positions of Foreign Affairs Minister and Governor of Edo province.
If you need a experienced volunteer I would be willing to resign as Culture Minister and leave things in the capable hands of my deputy. He has appedicitis so he won't be back for a bit, but most things are in order now.
Chieftess Nov 06, 2004, 07:32 AM Let's just calm down in here. Anymore mudslinging and there'll be warnings or bans.
donsig Nov 06, 2004, 07:51 AM Yes maam. Can you use that fancy red text of yours to get our president to answer my simple questions?
I'll repeat it here: Why weren't the trades authorized by the Trade Minister not made? What was the legal basis for making the trades that were made?
Ginger_Ale Nov 06, 2004, 07:56 AM I thought that was already answered donsig - SaaM got the trades via PtW, which will give different 'results' for proposed trades. Therefore, we couldn't get the amounts that SaaM put, so his instructions weren't valid. Since his instructions for Turn 0 trades could not be used, it is the DP's choice when there are no 'valid' instructions.
(PS: That is all what I think the constitution says and what I think would happen - it may not be entirely accurate).

Yet another President heard from! :mischief:
Your explanation works for the sale of silk to China but not for the French luxury deal. That trade was:
France: Gems for 36gpt, 12g
Here's what Joan is paying:
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads8/DGVGEMS.JPG
If she's paying 52 gpt she would have paid 36 gpt, right?
I would like to hear from the PRESIDENT just what legally justifies this trade?
Ginger_Ale Nov 06, 2004, 08:24 AM Ok, I got confused in all the trades - I'll wait for the *real* President, SDIII and SaaM to answer it.
Me? Another President? No. ;)

Me? Another President? No. ;)
It is easy to get confused on the trades when they are not listed in the game play instruction thread but only in a poll. That's one of the reasons I don't like referencing polls in the instruction thread.
Thanks for realizing I was only teasing in the first line of my last post. There are many others who would have gotten all bent out of shape about it. :)
Strider Nov 06, 2004, 09:18 AM It is easy to get confused on the trades when they are not listed in the game play instruction thread but only in a poll. That's one of the reasons I don't like referencing polls in the instruction thread.
One of the few things we agree on.
Sir Donald III Nov 06, 2004, 09:58 AM The China Trade was not made because somehow it did not accept the trade at the time. (Replaying the "Encore" save", it seems I am now able to make that trade. Hm... It's too bad I can't give you guys 20 Gold...)
France, however, the Pictures will tell the tale. The Gems and Combined Trades rated "Doubt", the Magnet only trade rated "close".
I then went ahead with the French trade netting every last gold possible.
EDIT: BTW, if SaaM lives in an "Alternate" world, it likely wouldn't be "Play The World", but rather "Macintosh".
donsig Nov 06, 2004, 10:16 AM Thank you, Mr. President! Your response clears things up well. :goodjob:
How we ever managed to approve trades that can't be made is beyond me. It's time we stopped taking everything our leaders say at face value and check things out ourselves!
Epimethius Nov 06, 2004, 10:48 AM Yes maam. Can you use that fancy red text of yours to get our president to answer my simple questions?
I can!
Sir Donald III, answer the question!
;)
A bit late, though. :p
Provolution Nov 06, 2004, 10:53 AM Provolution Action : Sir Donald III , please answer the question
Chieftess Nov 06, 2004, 11:01 AM Epimethius and Provolution banned 3 days for use of moderator action tags, thus impersonating a moderator.
blackheart Nov 06, 2004, 01:32 PM Stop the hostility!
Crimso Nov 06, 2004, 02:09 PM I'm sorry, but I'm laughing my ass of here! This is the President's thread for god's sake! Look at it!
Donovan Zoi Nov 06, 2004, 05:42 PM Stop the hostility!
No kidding, Blackheart. It must be nice to be able to vanquish your enemies with the click of a button.
CT, you really need to rethink your modhood here. Strider can curse a blue streak, yet you dump Provo for something as benign as this. Technically, the clause you state is not even mentioned in the forum rules.
Your constant misuse of your powers here have made this game nearly unplayable. Either resign from the game, or your mod post. Your bias continues to show. :(
Nobody Nov 06, 2004, 10:02 PM something as benign as this
Pretending to be a moderator seems like a pretty big rule brake. Like if you pretended to be a cop you would go to jail (and get some police brutality)
Chieftess Nov 06, 2004, 10:28 PM Discussing moderator actions is also against the forum rules. At this rate, I might as well ban everyone who posted in this thread! discussing moderator actions, threadjacking, mudslinging, etc. Let's just get back to the game!

It is pretty well know that you will get banned for using the mod tags. At any rate, if you want to convince CT to resign as a mod for the demogame, do it via PM and not in this thread. Eyrei.

Why is this moderator *rant* (not action) in mod tags?
Gotta love the nuance here. You certainly have a delicate touch in these matters, dating back to the impromtu game start announcement with no new forum started.
And banning us all will really help the situation; your contempt for this game and its participants is now starting to show.
Sir Donald III Nov 07, 2004, 01:05 AM ENOUGH!
:hammer:
I'm seriously considering closing this thread and starting a new one after this Turnchat.
Donsig, I thank you for your kind words. I also applaud your persistence.
MOTH, I appreciate the rally with the Chat Log.
Anyway, let us engage some new business:
First of all, I hereby approve the "Promotion" of CivGeneral to replace the resigned Donovan Zoi. :hammer:
I would also like to announce that Civanator, General of our Victorious Southern Army, has been officially considered for the Office of Vice President. Civanator, please contact me to confirm so that we can make this appointment official.
Hopefully, within the next 24 Hours, I can get a Governor for Edo as well. I already have a few people on a "short" list and have sent a PM to the first.
As far as I can recall, due to DG5JR21, Officers have the right directly to appoint their Deputies.
Now, to look at the blunders in now Tommorow's Turnchat that have nothing to do with vacant offices ;)
Chieftess Nov 07, 2004, 08:15 AM ENOUGH!
:hammer:
I'm seriously considering closing this thread and starting a new one after this Turnchat.
Agreed. You can start another thread after this TC. This thread is now closed.
