Hi there, okay this was ment to be a Ireland/Scotland/England Mod, the map is sound, i used an atlas, i made it super big, cause i didnt want you to be able to get to one side by just going through the other side of the screeen. You follow me? cause its not a whole world, just a piece. Anyway. I decided to for go putting in ireland and scotland for a few reasons. until there is a patch, it means ill have to repalce a diifferent nation, and thats mean. also it means the user will have to deal with a bunch of crap. which can be annoying. so for now. just live with it. throw in the romans and fight them. They occupied england at one point. Keep in mind, if i were you i would play the map with 7 other civs at most, preferably about 3-5, cause, its a huge map, but there isnt much land.

I think that walking over best is stopped by One column of Mountains, one column of Water and another Column of Mountains at one of the edges.

Stepping/sailing from one side of the map to the other with one turn.
I believe it can be prevented by using three columns to block it. One mountain on each side (so that no cities can be founded, and one water between, so that you just can't cross the mountain)

England, Scotland, Wales and smaller islands are perfick!! Ireland still needs a little improvement though, I'm afraid. The shape of the north is slightly odd and you left out Lake Neagh. Other than that it's cool.

definetly, ill do that. I was having a bit of trouble cause of the lack or mini map. its hard to do stuff without the big picture. as well as that. Ill add the lake. i think the only lake i put in was loch ness, mostly cause its so famouse its the only one i new about, its incredible how many rivers there are around the whole place though. Also... one of the "heroes" in england is the general from the revolutionary war. He didnt exactly win an amazing victory. so i wanted to replace him with churchill. cause, he beat Hitler right? so, thats really good. right?

I appreciate how hard it is to make a map. Heck, it was hard enough on Civ 2 even WITH the zoom ability. I think I'll just stick to Roolz editing and sticking my oar in about other ppls maps. ;)

I dont know if this a map isue or some freaky mess up with my install, but on this map I get my first warrior having 50 movement points, which is cool but kinda wierd. Any idea what this is about?

Is it an actual bug or just a prob with this map?

Your map's got no resources, smazza!

Hrm, I think after about a month of it being released that if he didn't know that when he released it, he does now. If it wasn't for your current signature, I'd suggest perhaps your post is just an example of you displaying your use of malice? :p

Just load the map up into Civ3Edit (or a third party tool) and add them to your desire. Even better, do just that and then upload the map to this thread for our delight and delectation. I for one would appreciate it, especially if you had taken care in deciding exactly where the resources should go (and why you think that's the case!). And hey, then even you too can get reply posts like "nice map, but.." ;)

Oh and, Happy New Year!

It is a good map - that goes without saying - but you'd be surprised at what some people can forget.

I usually download maps expecting everything to be done for me already. I don't go downloading maps expecting to do further work on them in order to use them. This is an accurate non-beta map of the UK, and so I expect it to have the correct resources in the right places, that's all.

Anyway, don't we all point out the obvious on these threads most of the time?

BTW The meaning of my signature cannot be taken both ways. Do not use a saying you don't understand against me.

Well, I thought the poking-tongue smilie was enough to show I was just fooling with you, but I know even that isn't always obvious! :)

But anyhow, words are just words.. once we write them, people are very much entitled to take them however they see fit! The opportunity presented by your signature was too much of a funny one for me to miss (even if you don't think it works well the other way), but I apologise if you took it any way other than being a light dig. :) I like pointing out humourous moments when I can, the world will never have too little room for a bit of lightheartedness. At least, not while I'm around!

I agree that you shouldn't have to edit maps you download, but then.. this isn't a professional discussion group, but rather a third party one.. so you've got to give people a certain amount of slack. But sure, you said your piece and that was fair enough. :) It's better that you said it rather than the map author forever thinking that it was okay to leave out such integral things as resources in Civ3 are!

Out of interest, has anyone who downloaded this map bothered to add resources to it? I'm sure I'm not the only one (in fact, now I know I'm not the only one) who would love to see a map of the UK with resources carefully placed on it. Anyone?

Ash

That would be nice. Are there enough resources in the UK for the game, though? (I haven't studied the UK in any great depth in that regard.)

You're going to have BIG problems finding silk, gems, oil, uranium, dyes, incense, aluminum, etc, in the UK.

Oil in the North Sea?? Civ III makes NO provision for oil in coast or sea tiles - another problem with the game.

You want resoucre tiles in the U.K.? Just toss them in their at random or forget the realism (which I don't like).

Well, the English did well using what they had. Anyway, couldn't you make the UK and some of northern Europe (you know France, Scandinavia, etc.)? Of course, that's easy for me to say - I'm not the one making the maps.

I want to change this into a conquests mod but I don't know how to convert it  . Does anyone know?

Also, solve oil by sticking arabs in corner of map with oil. Impassable terrain. Importing is realistic. Gotta go. Bye!

Finally, a map I can use for my scenario! I hate the one on civ3.com. I'm creating a Scottish Rebellion scenario, and I'd love to use a map of the UK of this quality Mind if I use this one? Hoping to get started on re-making my current map, by this weekend, or start using this one... Now if only I could download things without corrupting them right now...

I'm gonna download the map, but what about wales, wales are the original celts in Civ II, so where were we in civ III, and if you do ever make a mod please add wales!!!!!!!! Oh by the way, if anybody who is english reads this i have 2 messages for you...

But Scotland has its own Parliament. :P
