Hi and welcome to this PTW PBEM for newbees.

Unfortunately no real scenario for PTW so an epic game with only 4 players, small map and increased troops and treasury at start-up.

Civs have to be chosen among the new ones introduced by PTW only.

Apparently our lady PBEM player dirfted away so...


Players : 4

- fourth_wise_man : Arabia
- nivekclough : Celts
- blackheart : Carthage
- kingstuart

I will prepare the set-up and will send you a planning phase mail when the game is full.
If you have never played a PBEM I advise you strongly to read the "newbee guide" which is a sticky thread in this forum. You don't need to learn and remember everything but it should give you a good view of what you should avoid, prepare for, etc...

If you are interested (or want to confirm), please post in this thread stating your prefered civ and send me a PM with your e-mail address.

Well, you make me start worrying whether my writing is not clear.

The thread name is "PTW PBEM" and there are a few other occurances of "PTW" so I thought it was clear.

It is for PTW.

However if you have C3C you should be able to play in such a game as C3C contains PTW.

Let me know if these settings are fine with you before I write you in. Prefered civ as Arabia is OK.

You are on the waiting list, pending confirmation from Elmarae and fourth_wise_man.

I can see that you are full up. But keep me in mind for future games. Or even start two, it will give you something to do when waiting for replies :crazyeye:

When I get confirmation from Elmarae and fourth_wise_man or Kingstuart.

I guess that is what happens when you are on the net late at night.

It appears that it isn't, and if so, count me in...I would like to play as the Byzantines if they were in PTW...If that is wrong, give me the Ottomans...and if that is wrong, please post the Civs that are first available in PTW.

Just to put a point straight from earlier.
If you have C3C you can see PTW files (backward compatable), but this is not the case the other way around. PTW can't see C3C files (forward compatible).
As blackheart and niveclough will confirm as we had a false start with the same problem.
Its sad to be a poor relation :sad:
As it appears that there are more players than places how about starting another one between the rest. I'll do the honours if you like.

OK, I am back and have changed the list of players depending on confirmation/silence, etc...
... so fourth_wise_man and kingstuart are "in".

Waiting for Kingstuart to decide on his civ then I will send the planning phase e-mail.

Kingstuart is a nice addition to the players since he has got some experience now and will be able to actually start the game.

It means newbee to PBEM (which can also include newbee to Civ3 !).

This game is full but others start regularly, albeit much more for C3C than for PTW.
Frequency : depends on the number of players. For an epic, a high number of players can virtually make the game unplayable, that's why I stopped at 4 here). A good frequency is 1 turn every other day. With four players it is reasonable. Even 1 turn a day is possible (but rare).

Thanks for answering so quickly, LouLong. And it's also good that you have edited the first post. It's very hard to get into one of these games, because they are filled so quickly (for example, this game was filled within three hrs.), and i don't check this forum every day.

I think the reason why fourth_wise_man is unsure, is that on the game registry thread, you wrote this:

I also thought that this game was for conquests when I read that. It's probably just something you're used to write since you start 95% of the games here. Just remember to look after those things in the future, since it can be a bit confusing.

Yep, you make feel ashamed now. You are right, it was a copy/paste I did not check :-(

My best advice if you want to know about new PBEMs is actually to subscribe to the thread where I posted the post you mentionned. Then you will get e-mails every time a new game is set-up. AFAI concerned, that's the reason why I post in that thread.
New games are not that frequent that it should become a spam fest in your mail box and you will be warned fairly quickly.

Do you also have C3C ? (and if not, you really should ! I have no share of Firaxis but as a player there is no doubt for me).

i responded by email.. i have joined another game PTW with hawklord..so if another wants in please let them, otherwise i will do my civ duty and serve.

@ LouLong: Thanks for the advice, I will probably do that, but is there any way I can subscribe without posting in the thread, since I don't feel very well by posting in a thread that's reserved for announcing new games. And yes, I do have C3C.

@ kingstuart: Does this mean that I may be able to play here? If so, i might, i'm used to play Conquests, but AFAIR, the difference is not that big, right?

Like I said earlier you can only play in a PTW game if you have it. Well that's not strictly true, you could play but the first player using PTW will not be able to open the save file and your game will stop there.
I know cos it happenned to us. It caused no end of confusion. :confused:

i would think you can. c3c comes with PTW i believe. i have just vanilla and c3c as well..loulong will post the players soon.

@ Elmarae : well, hello ! Too late indeed. No big deal as you could register in Hawklord's PBEM so I hope you will have fun anyway !

@ oagersnap : since you have C3C you will probably find it much more enjoyable to play in a C3C PBEM (more frequent, more scenarios, etc...). I preferred to keep Kingstuart in this PBEM as he is experienced and it is always better to have at least 1 experienced player in a newbee PBEM.
But stay tuned, 1 WWII Pacif PBEM will start shortly and it is a great scenario for beginners : short and full of action.
About subscribing to the thread without posting, I don't know. I usually don't subscribe to threads myself...

First turn is always a bit long since things have to be put in order. Others will be faster (I hope !).

ok i've received the email and downloaded attachment (sry bout the delay in post, i just got internet back... it died for a while) and accourding to civ 3 its corrupt... i think fourth_wise_man opened it in conquests and "corrupted" the save... if he can replay and resend to me that'd b great
