Donovan Zoi

I am at GMT -6.

I will play as the Scandinavians.

Also, I would rather not play with AI as neighboring human players would be able to manipulate them.

Please also rank the players in sequence of timezone, so the game may progress easily. For me it is the same if you start in US or Europe, to be honest.

DaveShack

Civ: Persia
Usual Level: monarch
email: dshack85705 at netscape.net
Timezone: GMT -7 (Arizona)

Now for a couple of questions, what out of game rules, patch level, etc are we using? What does "standard map" mean -- epic random game? Does all victories include wonder, victory point, and regicide, or just all the standard SP victories?

Provolution
Nov 29, 2004, 02:23 AM
Game rules, all standard SP victories, not regicide, acc production, probably this will be a monarch level game, as we need to find the common denominator.
Patch 1.22 f . Normal sized map, six human players. I suggest sequence by timezone.
3 Europeans and 3 Americans. We can call this the "Battle of the Atlantic PBEM".

classical_hero
Nov 29, 2004, 07:20 AM
Can another player join?

Provolution
Nov 29, 2004, 09:06 AM
Sure, the max is 8, as long as the others approve.

DaveShack
Nov 29, 2004, 09:23 AM
Another player does not bother me. After some thought on it I'm leaning towards no AI's.

Provolution
Nov 29, 2004, 09:29 AM
Then we should fill up all 8 slots.

Classical Hero, find a Civ and name timezone, plus we need a last player to balance out the map. I am for all random map, and maxed out barbs.

MOTH
Nov 29, 2004, 09:49 AM
I would play, but I don't have conquests. Looks like fun.

Provo suggested ranked by timezone, but I would suggest that you alternate between European and US time zones as that will give you a better chance to get in 2 player turns each day.

I'll be watching the progress. I hope that you each post propaganda in this thread as the game progresses.

Provolution
Nov 29, 2004, 10:32 AM
I think timezones make sense to plan after, but we need to see the nationalities of people
involved to optimize the optimal logisitical management chain. And yes, I will not make a timezone doctrine on this :D

My nation will be called "Provolutia"
And my title - Provolt Imperator Dei

DaveShack
Nov 29, 2004, 12:28 PM
Should the game thread be in the normal PBEM forum?

we will be starting soon once i get Classical Hero's (if he's in) information.

And yes, epic game random map,
all victories, no regicide, ctf, princess, vp etc.
Patch 1.22 (latest for C3C)
Monarch

I will probably have order as Americans going first (since I will be making and it'll be more convenient) then europeans.

Strict timezones are unlikely to work out perfectly because playing time also matters. If there are many people with highly variable play times then the idea of alternating hemispheres is an extremely good one.

My best playing time windows are 1300-1330GMT and 0500-0700GMT, with the 2nd one (my night, Europe's morning) being more likely.

Hadn't thought about the "name game" -- I'm one of the less inspired people who just take the defaults all the time. Just put David for the name and King for title I guess. :crazyeye: Oh, remembered something else -- if you change your tribe's name, does the game show who you're playing as?

The Provolutions saw the glimmering light on the Eastern Hill, when the divine voice of the great father said... "This is the golden opportunity, Provolutians, well protected on that hill, with piles of gold within the city, in the far south of the world, the future is open for all of us. I also heard word that The City of Zoi and the City of Gondolin are the first cities of the world, and they are now the cradles of civiization. We do not know where they are, but they sure sound tempting to a hungry elefant".

I bring in a quote courtesy former US president Lyndon B Johnson about the Elephant

"*Delete* your Parliament and your Constitution. America is an elephant. Cyprus is a flea. If these two fleas continue itching the elephant, they may just get whacked by the elephant's trunk, whacked good.... We pay a lot of good American dollars to the Greeks, Mr. Ambassador. If your Prime Minister gives me talk about Democracy, Parliament and Constitutions, he, his Parliament and his Constitution may not last very long."

For non US Citizens, Elephant is the symbol of the US Republican Party... think...

The email delays are pretty weird, I've never seen that kind of response time under normal circumstances. It makes memories of DARPAnet, SciNet, and UUNet look pretty good -- at least then you knew that hitting "send" meant the recipient would (usually) get the message. ;) Heck, even CompuServe was pretty reliable.

Once we get past all the startup problems of spam filters, attachment blocks, and other technical glitches, it should run smoothly, at least for the email part. Then we'll only have to deal with all our RL schedules :crazyeye:.

I tried to suggest alternating US and Other so that we'd be looking at ~12 hour gaps until the next player's available time instead of 24 hours or more, without success.

Provolutia Auropolis was settled on the hill overlooking the frothing waves of the Prolific, the 10 000 city dwellers of this ideal city state realized they were rich beyond imagination for their time. They could also see bountiful grasslands, other major hills, forests and a distant Northern Mountain. Provolutia Auropolis even introduced some new herb, they began to smoke with rolled leaves. In gilded urban environments, with the fresh sea breeze from the East and with a smoke, can you really complain ?

Than I will re-resend my savegame.

To the same address as I used for the first day. Note, that I now send mails from a different mail-account than before.
-minhthemaster@hotmail.com

Check your filters/junk mail. I don't see what can be wrong.

I think Provolution. I should get the save after him.
I didn't see him posting the last few days, so he is probably on a X-Mas break. edit: he did post this morning

Which reminds me...I will be away in the first week of january.

well the playre that starts it enters an admin password, but im not sure how to do anything with that pass

another option is to find a replacement for provo, and provo gives him/her his password

Any movement here? If replacing Provolution in-place doesn't work out, we're certainly early enough in the game to just restart.

That seems to be the best option. Why don't we move this thread to the PBEM sub forum once we started?
