View Full Version : Succession Game France Sign Up
jest Nov 30, 2001, 07:30 AM Hi
I´m starting a new succession game called France.
4 people wellcome.
The rules are as follows:
World Size = Large
# civs = 8
Starting civ = France
Land Mass = Continents
Climate = Wet
Temperature = Warm
Age = 4 billion
Barbarians = Roaming.
Difficulty = Emperor
72 hours rule seems fair.
All savegames in ZIP files.
20 Turns until it gets too much to handle in 72 H.
fsume93 Nov 30, 2001, 04:06 PM Count me in. I havent played France, but I have eliminated them several times. Should be fun.
LKendter Nov 30, 2001, 06:34 PM Hmmm....
Nice to see different levels starting up.
However, I am NOT up to Emperor. Not yet ....
Good Luck
Ohwell Nov 30, 2001, 06:40 PM As I am in three already, I will not join unless there is no demand, but can I watch?
Cyrai Dec 01, 2001, 05:46 PM I'll join. You'll all be watching in horror as all the other Emporer level civs take advantage of me and kill off all of the cities, but every games needs to have an incompetent leader, no;)? I'm not that bad, but I've never played Emporer.:eek:
jest Dec 03, 2001, 06:36 AM So far we have:
Jest
Fsume93
Cyrai
I think we will wait for at least another player before starting.
Hobbes Dec 03, 2001, 02:09 PM I'll give it a try. Do you have any specific (or generic) rules?
Atros Dec 03, 2001, 10:24 PM any space for another player? if there is, count me in
i haven't gotten to emperor yet, seems like all my SMAC skills and tactics don't translate well to civ3. I usually just build and irrigate and go for culture conversion.
jest Dec 04, 2001, 06:37 AM OK, we have the team complete.
Jest
Fsume93
Cyrai
Hobbes
Atros
I´ll start the game today. Wich of you is more used to higher levels could make 2nd turn.
Let me Know
Hobbes Dec 04, 2001, 07:41 AM I'll try it, I've got about a month worth of experience (yes, I ran out at lunch Oct. 31 to buy my copy of Civ3) playing at Emperor and Deity with some success. Let me know what strategy your thinking of pursuing, I've found that at the higher levels the despotic rush works well, if you can find another civ close by, if not, I usually start with a few specialized cities (settler production, military production, culture, etc.), and finally, grab those resources and build those roads. Let me know.
jest Dec 04, 2001, 11:06 AM I've also been playing emperor and deity with success. On CIV 1 and 2 i was a peacefull player building up my tech and infrastructure until i was too powerfull for the AI. On CIV 3 i just had to forgott all that. It is simply not possible to be peacefull at the beginning. That said i normally use the Capital to produce 1 settler, barracks waiting for the city to grow, another settler and then military units. On the meantime rush a temple then military again, rush library ... With the settlers produced by the Capital i use to found a city close by that grows well and works well to mass produce workers and settlers. With the second settler produced by the capital i try to found a coastal city with much commerce ( river, gold, gems whatever ) in order to build Colossus, then Copernicus, Isaac etc. This is the core of the strategy and of course has to be combined with resource and luxury securing, and infrastructure building. I always build roads to all cities and towards the war. About your question of rushing under despotism i think it plays a major part on this strategy. On emperor, you can not have much population before the Republic anyeay and those temples and libraries will work miracles culturally speaking. Not to mention the fact that when you finally let the cities grow you have all the infrastructure. This is my strategy though, let me know what you think of this.
Hobbes Dec 04, 2001, 12:30 PM Sounds like a plan. With the French, we have Commercial and Industrious, so I don't see much of an advantage of specifically rushing a librarie, temple or barracks, it becomes more of a players choice. I like to rush temples because it keeps the downtrodden masses a little happier, though rushing a barracks or two to produce veteran units to distribute throughout the empire works well, in my experience. Normally I prefer to capture workers if possible, but with Industrious I believe there is a benefit to producing a few workers to link cities and resources together.
jest Dec 04, 2001, 03:41 PM The game was launched and posted on a new thread called Succession Game France.
Diplomatic, Dominating and culture victories are disabled. All else as in the beginning of this thread.
Good luck everybody
