View Full Version : Which WWII sub-theatre do you find most interesting?
Bugfatty300 Dec 02, 2004, 10:48 PM Not sure if all these count as "sub-theatres" but I mostly devided geographically to narrow down battles and campaigns.
Go ahead and choose more than one if you want to. I dare you.
I prefer the Mediterranean theatre and South East Asia. Those two seem to overlooked and therefore they tend to spark my interest more than others.
blindside Dec 02, 2004, 10:58 PM I'm interested in Russia and Eastern Europe first and foremost but also enjoy studying central europe and south east Asia. The last being more because its closer to home/my grandfather and many of his friends fought there (and some died/imprisoned by the Japanese and then died).
privatehudson Dec 03, 2004, 12:55 AM Mostly western europe, but western as in all the campaigns there rather than just Britain and France.
steviejay Dec 03, 2004, 05:08 AM Western Europe ineterests me greatly, as well as the Africa Campaign. The Eastern front is one I find really interesting, but known little about, so am reading up on it
nonconformist Dec 03, 2004, 10:14 AM Western, mid and a bit of Easten Europe. And I also like the Atlantic.
ComfortablyNumb Dec 03, 2004, 05:55 PM Africa just b/c Rommel was a brilliant tactician and a superb leader.
Oda Nobunaga Dec 03, 2004, 11:33 PM The Pacific as a whole (North, Southeast and Southwest), because I'm a boats fanatic.
ComradeDavo Dec 04, 2004, 04:33 AM At current i'm finding the whole Japanese theatre the most intresting (laregly because I have been playing the conquest again and just read 'The Man In The High Castle'), but I constantly changeso it would be impossiable for me to choose from the polloptions!
~Corsair#01~ Dec 04, 2004, 10:47 AM Central and Eastern Europe, the Mediterranean and North-East Asia.
Reno Dec 05, 2004, 06:53 AM North Europe (Finland and Norway) Plus all of the Pacific Front.
nonconformist Dec 05, 2004, 07:37 AM I'd have thought more people would be interested in the U-boats.
bob rulz Dec 05, 2004, 01:33 PM Eastern and Central Europe and South-East Asia...as well as North Africa, but I accidentaly forgot to check that one, and a bit of Western Europe as well, but I'm interested in all of them.
North King Dec 05, 2004, 02:31 PM Eastern Europe, since there is so much going on then.
BananaLee Dec 06, 2004, 04:29 AM North Africa and South East Asia.
I don't know about the others but here, I notice that most of the litreature available is all on the European Front (West and East) and so, one gets sort of bored about it.
An interesting front would also be the Home Fronts.
dgfred Dec 07, 2004, 10:36 AM I like them all :crazyeye: , though Western Europe, Pacific Campaigns,
Africa and 'Russian Front' are my very favorites ;) .
Ace Dec 07, 2004, 08:08 PM I'm interested in WW2, period. However, the most interesting area is the Eastern Front. Mostly because that had the biggest battles and, IMHO, the war was decided on the steppes of Russia. The other areas are all interesting (and important to the conduct of the war) but the German Army bled to death in the East.
Provolution Dec 08, 2004, 12:42 AM I recommend people to read up on the Battle of Narvik, it had many interesting features:
1.
First time Allied Coalition in Battle, British, French, Polish and Norwegian Formations facing the Kriegsmarine, Paratroopers and Mountain Troops.
2. Massive naval battle where both the British and German commander died. Half of the
German Destroyers were sunk, so was the Norwegian navy of obsolete Ironclads.
3. The Norwegian Commander of Narvik was a nazi, surrendering before mobilization, so that surviving German sailors were redrafted in Norwegian Uniforms
4. Fierce sieges, conquests, counterconquests.
5. Germans almost driven into Sweden in the mountains
6. Interesting combined forces operation
7. First loss of Wehrmacht in WW2.
8. Largest singular catastrophy for Kriegsmarine
9. First Churchill sanctioned operation
10. A good read.

I know little of this  , maybe you or someone can do a 'write-up' :scan: .
Ozz Dec 16, 2004, 09:18 AM The Med and Africa in 39-42 due to the development of weapons and
tactics.
viper275 Dec 16, 2004, 11:28 PM I chose 4 (2 from each main theatre.) For Pacific, I chose West USA/East Pacific and North Pacific. For Europe, I chose Russia and Western Europe. But Africa is good too. I must like them all.
