I posted this on a couple of the other Pirates websites, but I'll post it here for those who don't go to the other sites.

I met Sid Meier as the Mysterious Traveler in the game.

Here is a screenshot:

Regular version. I have run into him twice. Both times he was in a small Dutch village (2 completely different places) in a remote area, that you normally wouldn't stop at.

It was either in Sydneystown (pirate) or a little Dutch settlement right nearby off the northern coast of Honduras. When you traded with the merchant, the normal background music faded out to just having a single person whistling the same tune. I haven't run into this anywhere else in the game.

Heh, thats pretty cool.

Sydneystown is probably a little nod to cap'n Sydney, the pirate from the manual.

Since Captain Sydney is Sid Meier and Cap'n Briggs is Jeff Briggs...

What other Pirates boards do you guys go to?

My local Best Buy didn't have it in stock (Pentagon City), but they did have the cheat book, so I stood there reading that for an hour or so in the middle of holiday traffic  and I know, I just know I'm going to get hooked when I finally get my hands on a copy.

They are listed at the main game site:

http://www.atari.com/pirates/pirates/fan_sites.php

The top 3 ones are all good sites. The last site on that page (Pirates' Treasure) has never worked for me. It must either be gone, or the link is wrong, because I get a site can't be found error.

I have seen him too. Also in a Dutch small settlement. Somewhere near Trinidad.

Jeff Briggs is in the Game as well. I don't have a screenie, but if you ever see a Jesuit Abbot that doesn't look like Friar tuck.. well.. its Jeff.
