View Full Version : Help with scenarios
Rey Dec 16, 2004, 04:22 AM Hi all, I've been playing Civilization games since the 1st Civ came out.
With Civ 3 however, I've a problem with scenarios.
For example, I haven't understood what I have to do to play a scenario of the WW II like the one of Civ 2.
Anyone can help me, telling exactly what I have to do?
It would be great.
Cheers!

Got C3C? Chose "Civ Content" (for custom scenario) or "Conquests" (for shipped one) on the main game menu.
In CivIII Vanilla, it's called "Play Scenario". I think it also was in PTW.
Rey Dec 16, 2004, 05:02 AM Sorry, but what does it mean, C3C?
For example, if i want to play a WWII scenario, what should I do?
A good one here?
Plotinus Dec 16, 2004, 05:45 AM C3C means Civilisation Conquests, the most recent add-on for Civilization III. The best scenarios require Conquests. You must make sure that it is Conquests 1.22 - you can update plain Conquests to 1.22 by downloading a free patch from Firaxis.
Then you need to look in the "Completed Scenarios" forum for some scenarios that take you fancy. There are certainly some WWII ones there which are well regarded. Each thread should give instructions, but generally they require that you download the files and unzip them into the directory ..CivilizationIII/Conquests/Scenarios or similar. When that's done you play them by loading CivIII and choosing "Civ Content".
Some scenarios were made for Play the World, the earlier expansion pack, before Conquests came out. In this case, you can still play them even if you have Conquests, because the Conquests CD includes PTW. You just have to load that up instead and follow a similar procedure.
Rey Dec 16, 2004, 06:30 AM I haven't installed C3C yet, but I'll do it.
However, my problem is that when I previously tried to load a scenario, it always began as it was a normal game, from the 4000BC, with a Settler.
What was the problem?
Plotinus Dec 16, 2004, 07:21 AM Perhaps the scenario did begin like that - if it was a mod rather than a scenario. Mods generally change the rules but not necessarily the map, so it may begin looking like a normal game. Otherwise, you simply didn't start the scenario. Why that would be I don't know. Better to install C3C and then see what happens.
Rey Dec 16, 2004, 07:36 AM Ok, I'll install C3C and then I'll see.
But the scenario was a WWII one, if i remember correctly.
Maybe it was a Mod too, but surely it shouldn't begin that way.
However, in a scenario is it possible to choose the faction, or u have to play only with a predefined one?
The Last Conformist Dec 16, 2004, 08:04 AM In unpatched CivIII, scenarios are pretty much limited to mods with preset maps.
Whether you can choice which civ to play would depend on the scenario. Most allow you to play most or all civs, some restrict you quite heavily, and a couple only allow a single playable civ. Some, like the American Civil War scenario, comes in different variants for the different sides.
Weasel Op Dec 16, 2004, 09:25 AM Did you look around the map to see if there was anything else? If the designer didn't change the rules, you will still start out in 4000BC with a settler somewhere on the map, but the rest of your civ should be there somewhere.

No, I didn't check it, but I noticed that the civs of the game were those of the scenario.
But then for example, as the Axis, I have only a settler (I guess he started from the location of Berlin, but I'm not sure about it)
