View Full Version : Mini Map not revealing explored areas
Burping_Barney Dec 20, 2004, 02:19 PM For some reason the mini map is not revealing areas that i have explored, though if i trade world maps the areas around the empires i traded maps with are revealed. Also if i explore the continent i am on it will show that as explored on the mini map... so i am thinking this is just related to water explorations, not really sure about this as i just started playing Civ3 recently.
Anyone know why it's not showing areas i have already explored in the mini map?
MSTK Dec 20, 2004, 02:36 PM Well, it's supposed to..
I'm not sure. Have you played other games on this computer?
Flintlock Dec 20, 2004, 03:14 PM That happened once before to me, although I ended up not saving the game and never encountered it again.
And it was over land.
Burping_Barney Dec 20, 2004, 03:17 PM i played tons of games on this computer... i just recalled in civ2 that if you explored a region it show'd up as explored on the mini map and it seemed to me that it should in Civ3 as well, and it's doing it every game i play as well.
The patchs i seen on Civ Fanatics supposed to fix this? I tried using one and it crashed my game i had to reinstall the game.
Also when i try to use my cannons they won't attack, i get an error message that basically says "non military unit" and they don't attack cities or other units, same with catapults. What's up with this as well?

What's up with this as well? You use cannons to bombard squares with the 'b' button, they can't attack like normal units do.
Burping_Barney Dec 20, 2004, 07:55 PM These patchs here -----> http://www.civfanatics.com/civ3patches.shtml
If these are mirrors of patchs from different sites my apologies, i just tried one, Civilization III Patch v1.29f and it crashed my game.
Also how do i get rid of cities i no longer need? I planted one in the wrong place now i can't irrigate half a continent cause it's blocking the way. Any way to get rid of it? I tried making settlers but once you get down to a population of 2 it won't let you make anymore settlers.
Turner Dec 20, 2004, 11:19 PM That's where I've d/l'd all of my patches, so they should work just fine.
As for abandoning cities, you right click on the city and select 'abandon city'. However, it was introduced in a later patch for Civ3, something like 1.17. I think. Anyways, if you're not patched to at least that level what you want to do is build workers until that city is size one. Then you want to make sure you have zero growth in that city (I.e. - no extra food being produced). Then build the last worker. It should ask you if you want to disband the city. Select yes. But irrigation works through city squares, so you should be able to irrigate up to the city, go to the other side, and then irrigate again. Useful for irrigating around hills, where you can't irrigate.
Burping_Barney Dec 22, 2004, 08:20 PM I tried that building workers already, once i get to city level 2 it gives a message saying my city is too small and i can't build that worker, hence i am stuck with that city.
I'll try that irrigation thing with the cities and see if it works.
Burping_Barney Dec 26, 2004, 01:46 PM I been building workers left and right out of this city that now has a population of 1, yet the city won't delete.
Anyone know why i can't get rid of this city i planted in a bad spot blocking my irrigation?
Ginger_Ale Dec 26, 2004, 01:53 PM You can always right click it and then select "Abandon City", if you have the latest Vanilla Civ3 patch, or PTW or C3C.
Burping_Barney Dec 26, 2004, 02:00 PM Where do i get these patchs and what are their names?
