View Full Version : datax.cab
Gnote Dec 21, 2004, 08:24 PM Hey guys,
Big problem.
I just purchased CivIII complete, and I'm trying to install it. Each time it gets partway through and then says that it can't find a file called datax.cab. The x is either, 1, 2, 3, etc. Does anyone know why this happens?
Padma Dec 21, 2004, 08:28 PM That *usually* indicates a dirty disk. :hmm:
Gnote Dec 21, 2004, 08:58 PM I thought so too, so I wiped it off, several times.
It keeps doing it. Sometimes it does it on the first install cd, sometimes it does it on the second, and it usually does it at a different point in the process.
Gnote Dec 21, 2004, 10:40 PM You would not believe how much this pisses me off.
Turner Dec 22, 2004, 12:07 AM I would return it and get a different disc.
Gnote Dec 22, 2004, 01:34 AM It's all three discs though.
Sometimes the first goes through fine, sometimes even the second goes through fine. Somewhere along the line, without fail, the thing will say it can't find datax.cab.
I don't get it.
Gnote Dec 22, 2004, 07:07 AM I finally got it to work...
You want to hear the crazy method?
Everytime the installation stalls because it cannot read the disc, eject the disc and put it back in until it reads it. Every time the "can't find data.cab" thing comes up, eject the disc, throw in the PREVIOUS disc, wait for the error message, throw the right disc back in, and it should work.
That's what I did. It's far from scientific, and it's far from a logical outcome, so don't be surprised if it doesn't work for you.
Turner Dec 22, 2004, 07:52 AM Well, at least it worked out for you.
Che Guava May 03, 2005, 08:12 PM ok I have a similar problem: civIII:gold won't install on my new computer. Once it gets to disk two, it asks for data4.cab on disc 0. First of all, is there even a data4.cab file required for civII-g? Has anyone else solved this problem (putting in the previous disc has proved fruitless!!!) HELP!
JoeM May 15, 2005, 03:17 PM It looks like my CD is scratched, is it legal to ask for a copy of that, and only that cab file from other users?

No. Take it to the store and ask for another copy of the CD.
Pentium May 18, 2005, 09:59 AM I had the same problem. It didn't find data3.cab. I checked the CD and it wasn't there.
So I created data3.can on my hard drive and hoped I'll get thruogh. But then it searched for data4.cab. I came all the way to data15.cab, where I decided to restart the insallation. This time, it worked fine.
