How do I run the game in wondowed mode, you know, to let me chat and crap whilst playing?

There is no default window mode. You can, however, Alt-Tab through your windows, so you'll be able to switch programs too. And if you need to start a new program, but don't have anything but Civ3 running, hit the windows key. This will pop up the start menu, and you can navigate to whatever program you want via that.

There is a trick you could do. Get into the .ini file for your game (civlization3.ini, ptw.ini or conquests.ini) and put the following lines it:

KeepRes=1 and
VideoMode=1024.

As long as your monitor is at a resolution above 1024x768, this will put Civ3 in the upper left hand corner taking 1024x768 pixels from there. So if you're at a 1280x1024 res, you'll have a smaller part of the screen to the bottom and right, and at 1600x1200, you'll have a larger part of the desktop available. It's not windowed mode per se, but it sorta works out to be the same. You just can't move the window.

Now, it's been a while since I've done this, so I'm not entirely sure the two lines are accurate. But if it's not it, it's close.

That didn't work for whatever reason, but im too tired to try it more... I guess I can just alt-tab, it is turn based, after all :)

Try reversing the lines.

Give it a minute, there's a thread on this. Let me look for it.

Your res is higher than 1024x768, right?

Okay, two relevant threads.

Here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=88271) and here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=75121). You might also want to read this post (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=1980093&postcount=781) on the .ini settings.

Also, it should be Video Mode, not VideoMode.
