I have Civ 3 gold edition, and it worked fine, I played it for a week and then set aside for a couple of days. When I came back the game prompted me to reinstall the game, when the progress bar got to 14% the game prompted me to insert disc 2, but the game wouldn't recognize it. I tried several things, I even reformated my entire hard drive. It still does that every time I try. The disc is in perfect condition, and I have the correct drivers.

:ack: You reformatted your entire hard-drive and it still doesn't work?

It sounds very strange that it even asked you to reinstall, and even more so that a reformat didn't help. When you say reformatted, was this a quick format, or a full one? Are you sure it cleaned-out the registry? This might be an installshiled problem.

I did a full one,

Also every time I go to install it asks to install Direct X 8.1 because I don't have it. I've installed it, and reinstalled it several times, yet the message comes up every time.

What OS are you running? It sounds like you have a corrupted registry. Did you check the HDD for errors when you reformatted?

You could also try installing DirectX from a different game (9.0b or 9.0c) - hopefully civ will look, see you have a later version and NOT want to install it.
