Have Civ 3 gold edition.
Had problems after playing the game for a while. I uninstalled and reinstalled but that did not work. I last uninstalled thru the control panel but it did not fully uninstall. I deleted files/folders in drive c but still have the civ gold enrty in the control panel.
I insert disk 1 to reinstall or to uninstall but get the message box giving me the option to modify repair or remove. None of those work.
I try to just run the game without loading it but get error that
"failed to start binkw32.dll not found."
I did however find that file in a recent installation of railroad tycoon 3 game I put in after all the civ gold mess.
this was from last yr and my system restore will not go back far enuff from when all was fine with civ gold.

Any options other than reinstall my winxp?

Yes - go to this link (http://www.atari.com/us/support/newfaq/civilizationiii.php?browser=1&issueNum=239&osType=WINXP&pageDisplay=MAIN#faq_prodissues). It has instructions on how to manually uninstall the game - should fix it for you. :)
