View Full Version : New unit: Dwarf Ironmask (Jan 4th, 2005)
aaglo Jan 04, 2005, 02:04 PM Hi!
I don't know what this is, but I suppose it was requested for the LotM/LotR (?) mod - as a dwarf UU. Well, this is what came of it: Ironmask. This unit is loosely based on the Warhammer chaos dwarf unit (actually a crew member of the chaos hell cannon).

Attached are a preview of the animations, and an extra-large civilopedia image
Drift Jan 04, 2005, 02:08 PM It's excellent. Looks nicely wicked, and that mask/helmet thing I complained about is nonexistant in this version. :)
BeBro Jan 04, 2005, 02:10 PM Cute :) Great job.
CamJH Jan 04, 2005, 02:19 PM My Units folder gets larger and larger with every unit you release.
Great job aaglo!
Dom Pedro II Jan 04, 2005, 02:21 PM Neato! I like this a lot. Still have no use for it personally... but one of these days I'm going to play one of these fantasy mods and be blown away!
Mistfit Jan 04, 2005, 02:24 PM Another great unit aaglo :goodjob:
And the obligitory avatar to go with it :D

Edit:
Does this mean we all just post and no one looks at that what the others are saying?

Xen Jan 04, 2005, 02:26 PM awesome! :D whats next on the rotation of dwarf/hob-gob units? a hob-gob (slave) worker(and mabet settler) perhaps? :mischief:
mrtn Jan 04, 2005, 02:29 PM This is so cool! :goodjob:
Mithadan Jan 04, 2005, 02:33 PM Ha ha, that's awesome aaglo! This guy'll be fightin' some fire-breathing drakes in no time! I really like his mask, especially because it includes an iron beard. :D Now the LotM crew (me included) will have to think even harder about what unit to request should they win (again) Kinboat's lottery...
Gomurr Jan 04, 2005, 02:47 PM Excellent unit, aaglo!
Kinboat Jan 04, 2005, 05:15 PM Nice :D
tjedge1 Jan 04, 2005, 07:42 PM Awesome unit. It will replace some bad graphix in my mod. Maybe.

Raw is War? Jan 06, 2005, 06:24 AM Class! :D
Drift Jan 07, 2005, 08:27 AM I love the unit, but it's a tad too big to blend in well with the older dwarf graphics.
So, as I've never resized units before, I'm asking some helpful soul to resize this beauty into 95% size. I know it's not difficult, but I've got my hands full with all my modding already, so I don't really want to start learning unit resizing at the moment.
aaglo Jan 08, 2005, 02:19 PM Too big? Do remember, that dwarfs come also in different shapes and sizes. A lame excuse would be that these are "giants among dwarfs", hand-picked by the king himself.. :mischief:
I can't resize the existing units either (actually I don't know how). In an emergency I could re-render the files, if the size issue bothers too much.
Drift Jan 08, 2005, 02:50 PM Don't bother with the re-render, If nobody resizes it, I'll just use it at 100%. However, I bet the LOTM crew will take my bait and resize it for me. *evil laughter*.
;)
mrtn Jan 08, 2005, 08:01 PM We have other stuff to shrink first. :p I haven't compared this to the other dwarfs, I'll have to check it out.
Drift Jan 09, 2005, 02:29 AM @mrtn
The unit isn't really any taller than Kindred's (and ED's) dwarves so aaglo had the size right. It's just that it's so much fatter than them, that it looks bigger. Now that I compare them again, I'm not sure if it needs resizing after all. Yes, it gives an impression of a bigger unit, but it's also clearly a dwarf.
Mithadan Jan 09, 2005, 04:59 AM Looks good to me. These guys were just the "linebackers" of the Dwarvish army, let's say... ;)
The Last Conformist Jan 09, 2005, 06:22 AM I suppose it's a Dwarf Arnie.
:goodjob:
Snorken Jan 09, 2005, 08:56 AM I suppose it's a Dwarf Arnie.
Yeah that must be it! "Hasta la vista, baby!"
Pantsofpower Jan 09, 2005, 03:52 PM Incredible. Yet another nice job aaglo!
Hikaro Takayama Jan 10, 2005, 03:50 PM Aaglo, these units are great, especially considering what program you're using :crazyeye:
I've also realized something recently (after doing some "research" with FF IX): Your Chaos Dwarves are actually closer to what Final Fantasy style dwarves look like than most of the ones that Kindred and Embryodead did. I'll still be using the Dwarven High guard (Kindred's, I believe) and Embryodead's dwarven Berserker as the Dwarven Knight and Berserker, respectively. This guy's going right in as a "Battle-Rager" and your blunderbuss guy will be the new dwarven rifleman  Now all I need is a sound clip of the blunderbuss guy saying, "I shot the sherrif, his deputy and YOUR WEE DOGGEH TOU!!" (okay, bad Warcraft III referance....) Sooo... Basically I've got some quick graphics/pediaicons.txt editing to do tonight.
