View Full Version : Rome:Total War - manual needed?
Flotsam Jan 04, 2005, 05:16 PM I just ordered Rome: Total War on eBay for cheap but it has no manual. Is the manual very helpful? Any good sites that give good info on this game so I might not need the manual?
Thanks. :king:
EDIT: Found a pretty good site with guides... RTW Guides (http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=78). If anyone has any links to some good info sites post them please.
GEChallenger Jan 04, 2005, 08:27 PM The manual is useful, but if you play the in-game tutorial you should be alright, although I'm a little underwhelmed by the amount of in-game documentation otherwise.
Flotsam Jan 05, 2005, 04:36 AM Thanks for the info. I've always just learned games as I play but RTW seems like it has a lot to it.
Quokka Jan 06, 2005, 12:33 AM Go to www.totalwar.org for all the answers on all the Total War games.
Akka Jan 06, 2005, 02:40 AM Honestly, I've barely ever looked into the manual. It's really not needed.
Tarkeel Jan 11, 2005, 03:23 PM Manual isn't needed really, but the map might come in handy
wit>trope Jan 11, 2005, 03:50 PM There might be a pdf version of the manual on the CD.
ShowMeTheMoney Jan 11, 2005, 08:34 PM Manual is hardly needed. In fact you can get by using just the tutorial. But you can try the totalwar.org forums (http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=78)
storealex Jan 14, 2005, 09:44 AM Here's a mod that will make the game much more realistic, greatly improves gameplay and adds units and provinces to conquer:
http://www.rometotalrealism.com/
In short:
- Units look much better
- Units and factions are more realistic and more balanced
- Corsica, Ireland, Sweden, Scotland, Lesbos and several more provinces has been added.
- Many new units

WickedSmurf Jan 18, 2005, 05:39 AM Seems like a nice mod alex. Do you recommend it over the vanilla version? Is it just as buggy as vanilla?
storealex Jan 19, 2005, 03:28 PM Yes skøresmølf, this mod is definitly much better than vanilla Rome. I had stopped playing the game completely, until I got this mod. Now I can't stop playing at all :)
I don't remember any bugs from vanilla rome though, but there's a few bugs in the mod. These bugs can be a little annoying, but it's still more than worth it. The game simply becomes sooo much better, and there's a tallented and expirenced team of devellopers constantly improving, adding and fixing the mod (Since I posted my first post in this thread, the mod has gone from 4.1 to 5)
If you're still not sure about the mod, I suggest that you copy your savegames into an other place in your computer, so that you always can reinstall vanilla and play as if nothing has happened. What I did was just to have two versions of the game at once, because I have plenty of empty space on my harddrive. One with 4.1 and one with vanilla.
Now I have changed the vanilla into version 5 of the mod, so I have both 4.1 and 5. This is because number 5 is very different. Here the map extends all the way to India, and there's many, many more provinsens (There's like 10 settlements in Italy alone)
Also in 5, Rome is composed only of the Senate and the Juliis, renamed just "the Romans"
In five 5.1, it will be possible to switch this off, so you can both conquer India, while still play as Brutii or Scipii in the traditional way.
Here's a pic I just took:

I will see if I can upload some more... otherwise I can send them to you over msn.
storealex Jan 20, 2005, 05:05 AM Yup, here's one more. It's very grainy so it dosn't take up too much space on the server:

WickedSmurf Jan 20, 2005, 09:02 AM Aaaaaight seems cool enough. I'll follow your example and install it on another of my harddrives and mod that one. Thanks mate!
storealex Jan 21, 2005, 01:42 PM You're welcome. Share your thoughts about it when you have tried it out a bit.
Darth_Pugwash Jan 23, 2005, 06:44 AM Ya, the total realism mod is very good. 5.1 is out now, its on the site that storealex posted further up the page.
LOTR: the fourth age mod is looking good too:linky (http://www.stratcommandcenter.com/forums/index.php?showforum=31)
WickedSmurf Jan 24, 2005, 02:36 AM I only played the mod for about a couple of hours yesterday but.. Damn! It's awesome!
Flotsam Feb 03, 2005, 02:14 AM Thanks a ton for the info on that mod, it's great and this game is going to be a great time killer for the next couple months. :goodjob:
FriendlyFire Feb 10, 2005, 04:43 PM Whoa.
What size have you set the units too ??
And dose the realism mod increase the AI battle intelligence.
Darth_Pugwash Feb 10, 2005, 04:48 PM Nope, the AI is still just as dumb as ever.;)
