I'm currently working on a Civ3 mod that will replace old, non-existant (or at least not widely existant) civilizations and replace them (or just rename some) with newer, modern civilizations. I'll use the civilizations from CivArmy (if thats okay) and some other people that I'll list after I finish it. I'll probably be finished in a month or two, but it'll be worth the wait. The civs I changed were random, so that doesn't mean they were necessarily located in that region. Here is the list:

New Civs:
Rome - Italy
Persia - Iran
Babylon - Australia
Aztecs - Mexico
Zulu - South Africa
Iroquis - Canada
Mongols - Mongolia
Scandanaivans - Sweden
Ottomans - Turkey
Celts - Austria
Arabia - Saudi Arabia
Carthage - Brazil
Korea - North Korea
Sumeria - Iraq
Hitties - South Korea
Byzantines - Poland
Incas- Chile
Mayans - Cuba

All of these will have new UUs, civilopedia, and leaderheads. If you have links to good complete civs (other than from CivArmy), then please post them.

You should really take some time one night and look through all the leaderheads in the Graphics mods forum. There are far too many to list links to. That's what the forum is there for anyway - to provide links & previews of all the graphics mods.

I forgot to mention that this will start in modern times with all techs known.

PS (To Kal-El or Teturkhan) Could you make me a map for this mod after it's finished? Any sized world map, but no smaller than standard, please.

I'm changing the Sumeria to Iraq idea. I'm changing Sumeria either to another country other than north american or european, mostly because Iran and Iraq are closely related. Post your ideas for the civ change, but list one that still exists currently, and some big country and known country, not a small country (ex. Ghana or Tibet)

Iraq and Iran are not closely related at all, this is a very common misconception in the western world. Yes they're both Muslim countries (Iraq is Sunni, but Iran is Shi'ite), but the border them also marks the border of the Arab and Iranian/Persian world.

Culturally the two are as different, if not more so, than China and Japan. Certainly more different than Britain, the US, Australia, etc.

If I will take out Iraq, I'll probably replace it with Congo, Argentina, or some country in the world that is the most cultulary diverse (too bad I don't know one that is at least greatly diverse). That's where I need the help of people from this site.

By the way, would Turkey be considered a middle-eastern country or meditteranean country?

Mongolia is pretty much useless....They are dominated by China and Russia, and their goverment can't even make a correct census.....Last I remember reading their report was like "somewhere between 2 and 3.5 million people"

Yeah, I think I'll actually replace Mongolia with Congo and keep Iraq. I'll also replace Austria with Indonesia.

Here are 43 top countries. I would suggestion finding Civs for each - crossing off the ones who haven't been made yet. By the end you should have just over 31 Civs, in which case you can drop the one's you don't like or the one's who don't serve the best purpose to get down to 31:

Africa (4):
Egypt
Ethiopia
Nigeria
South Africa

Asia (8):
China
India
Japan
Korea
Mongolia
Pakistan
Russia
Ukraine

Europe (14):
Austria
Finland
France
Germany
Great Britain
Greece
Ireland
Italy
Norway
Poland
Portugal
Romania
Spain
Sweden

Middle East (5):
Iran
Iraq
Israel
Saudi Arabia
Turkey

No Amer (4):
America
Canada
Cuba
Mexico

Oceania (3):
Australia
Indonesia
New Zealand

So Amer (5):
Argentina
Bolivia
Brazil
Peru
Venezuela

I'm replacing Iraq for Argentina just for the country to continent ratio to be better. I'm going to keep the civs I have now. I'm going to start working on the mod now. I'm still going to post here, so you can still give me comments/suggestions/questions.

Hehe Ukraine is Asian:-)
I vote for Ireland, because they have huge cultural influence. I dont see point to place North Korea and South Korea, when both of them are closely similiar with culture and history and only war divided them to two countries....

The war was created for Korea's urge to become Communist. North Korea became Communist, while South Korea stayed a republic. North Korea's culture is mixed between Mongolian, Russian, and Korean, while South Korea's is mixed between Japanese, Chinese, and Korean (correct me if I'm wrong, which I probably am).

Actually, Iraq has a Shiite majority (60% or something like that). It's just that Sunnis have been politically dominant for most of its history.

Isn't both Koreas a bit much? Drop one of them and put in Vietnam.

The Koreans are the some. Full Korea was occupied by Japan. You have chose them only for different goverment? I am really suggesting Israel like other country. They have excellent military service like North Korea and economy good. But if you want communist asian country I am suggesting Vietnam too. If you want democratic country I suggest Thailand or Phillipines...

Guess you're right. I'll just change the two koreas into one korea and replace the other with Israel. I'm also changing Netherlands to Iraq and Portugal to Mongolia. With these many European countries, there'll be too much European culture, and Mongolia is just too big to not have.

With these changes, I don't think this will be called Modern Civ3. I'm renaming it to Better-Country Civ3.

Yes because Mongolia isn't very influntal in todays world....

magus77

Yeah, you don't see too many Mongolian people (most of the time in Chinese restaurants, but even thats rare) anywhere besides Mongolia. I'll replace it with Israel, unless somebody can think of something much better (don't post some country just because you come from there).

I think you may have bitten off a bit more than is possible to chew with this one. The 31 civ limit had led in the dropping of some rather important civ and I think it's impossible for this to be done on a global scale while keeping everyone happy.

Why don't you just use some localised areas, such as only Europe etc?

magus77
Jan 21, 2005, 06:44 PM
Whoops, already have Israel. I can't think of another influential or very cultural country. I have one space for a country. Should it be Thailand, Phillipines, Vietnam, or some other country?

Maverick mw: Great idea, and I'll take it. I'm ditching this idea and going to a different idea. Look for the new topic called "197 civilizations", you'll see what the full idea is.
