Hey all! I'm not sure if there are any already out there (though I have searched the unit libraries quite a bit) but I'm looking to add some units that are dependent on the Camel resource.

Basically, I'd like to have a few different choices for civs that find their homelands in the desert. Maybe an archer, a swordsman, a desert scout or any variation anyone out there would be interested in creating. If you know of any units like that which are already out there. Please let me know.



Problem: I've gotten pretty used to Jasc Paint Shop Pro, but I can't get it to open .flc files so I can't create my own units32 pics. So it would be greatly appreciated if any interested animators out there could include a units 32 with it. Alternatively, suggestions on how to open the flc files would also be most welcome!

About your request : many camel units have been done, mostly by Dom Pedro (check in this post) + some conversions by Aluminium (check here). So you can probably find what you want.
Besides unit animation are .flc files. The units32.pcx are only useful if you have complete units already. Most creators release their own units32.pcx when publishing their units.

Well, i've since done some searching and found five camel units i can use, and one i can't. I've got the Camel Rider, Camel Chariot, Bedouin Raider, Mameluke and War Camel, all with units 32 .pcx files. the Camel Warrior However doesn't have the units32 with it. (*sigh*).

anyway, i was thinking maybe some industrial age camel cavalry would be a cool addition to the units i've already got. any takers???

Yes, there are a few camel-mounted units knocking around - surprisingly many, if you count conversions from other games. However, I've found it hard to dig up any non-camel-mounted desert warriors, like the Touareg. There are a few Arabian units which come fairly close.

If you want an industrial camel unit, I'd suggest the Bedouin Raider, since if I remember correctly he's armed with a gun.

Don't worry if a unit doesn't come with the 32.pcx - that's actually quite easy to make yourself. You need to download Flicster from the programs forum, and then you can use that to produce a series of stills from the unit's animation. Then you can simply resize one of those stills to the correct 32.pcx size and paste it into the relevant file. Easier than it sounds, honest.

Zulu has made many .32 units files with 1000s of icons to save us having to edit them in all the time.

I would mind seeing one new camel warrior. I don't know if we really need more than that. There are some camel riding units floating around, a few good AoE conversions (by Aluminum) and several civ units made by Dom Pedro2, but units made for civ always look best, and DP's camels are some of his first mounts, I think. He said he'd do an update someday, but I know he's got alot on his plate so it'll probably be a while before he gets around to them (if he still intends to).
