Basically i am trying to recolour terrain and getting stuck in a number of places.

My first task was colouring the sea... ive got the colour blue fine, but when i tried to colour the seadragon in...

so went into image and mode and changed the picrture from index to RGB.
Bingo! now the colours i select work. I convert back to index, save and load up the editor....

ARGH! WTF?!?

ive got the colours i want, but lots has turned pink!

So can anyone tell me how to colour things in the colour i want yet keep the image as i want?

Make sure the magenta tone is the last one in the palette. In some image processors the palette is reversed, then it is the first - no idea how it is in GIMP. Just test it - if it appears transparent in the game it is in the right slot. GIMP probably re-arranged the palette when you converted the image from index to RGB and back.

Also make sure the last two colors (or the first) are not used in the square itself (so the magenta only for transparent parts).

A last -unrelated - hint: if you edit the squares, the objects you paint on them should not go beyond the lower border of a square (going over the upper border is no prob) because those parts below will probably not be visible in game.
