View Full Version : New unit: Tomb Swarm (Jan 19th, 2005)
aaglo Jan 19, 2005, 01:05 PM Roll the bones!
This is a stealthy unit from the Warhammer fantasy. Swarms of dead corpses arise from the very soil of the ancient battles. It can use the paradrop-ability to emerge from the ground :)
Here are the files:
Tomb Swarm (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads8/TombSwarm.zip)
Attached are previews (animation sequence: Drop, Default, Fidget, Run, Fortify, Attack, Victory and Death).
And darn, I think I can't spell  - fixed ini-file is attached (actually, the drop-flc is named wrong, but it works this way too)
RRnut Jan 19, 2005, 01:13 PM Neato! Really neat!
Hikaro Takayama Jan 19, 2005, 01:44 PM That's one freaky unit! It kind of reminds me of the graveyard scene from "Army of Darkness" Where all the skeletal hands pop up out of the ground and start grabbing Ash....
CamJH Jan 19, 2005, 01:55 PM This is the coolest one yet! :wow:
Did you help invent pov-ray? :D You must know it inside and out to come up with something as awesome as this.
Orthanc Jan 19, 2005, 02:20 PM Again!? :goodjob:
Nice job aaglo, with peices from this you could probably throw together more of a swarm, with say about twenty skeleton hands popping out of the ground everywhere.
Just a thought, but you're busy enough by the looks of it, so many units! So many choices! :D
Misfit_travel Jan 19, 2005, 02:24 PM I love the animation. I'm dying to see it used in game.
Great work aaglo.
Misfit
skam0073 Jan 19, 2005, 02:26 PM I don't know if aaglo helped with the making of pov-ray but I think they should advertise their product with his units. They are so cool:D
Yoda Power Jan 19, 2005, 02:42 PM Creepily good :goodjob:
RedAlert Jan 19, 2005, 03:14 PM uuughhh.... :shudders: ....great job! :D
bombshoo Jan 19, 2005, 03:31 PM That's one freaky unit! It kind of reminds me of the graveyard scene from "Army of Darkness" Where all the skeletal hands pop up out of the ground and start grabbing Ash....
Aye...I been thinking that could be a scenario...We have all the undead and middle ages units...I think something to even work as the car...All we need is Ash.
Gomurr Jan 19, 2005, 03:35 PM Excellent unit, aaglo. I can't wait until ED adds all these units into the Warhammer mod. I'm definately starting my next game as Khemri. :D
Bungus Jan 19, 2005, 04:09 PM Another stupendously successful, though utterly misguided, attempt at unit making, aalgo.
@bombshoe: Army of darkness is one of those things that would translate well into a civ 3 mod... just a hunch.
@Gomer: That sig, is that a quote? or did you make it up? its funny...
mrtn Jan 19, 2005, 04:35 PM Bunny rabbits! Kill, kill, kill! :D
Fetus4188 Jan 19, 2005, 05:25 PM You are a god! :worship:
joeskip Jan 19, 2005, 05:48 PM this is the coolest unit I have ever seen ;)
now what to use it for...
tjedge1 Jan 19, 2005, 06:45 PM Man that's creepy. That is too cool aaglo.
Takeno Jan 19, 2005, 07:13 PM Whooa! That's cool! :D
Kinboat Jan 19, 2005, 09:10 PM Awesome... Simply awesome.
Hikaro Takayama Jan 19, 2005, 11:29 PM Aye...I been thinking that could be a scenario...We have all the undead and middle ages units...I think something to even work as the car...All we need is Ash.
Well, since Civ Army was nice enough to give me that double-shotgun prop he used for the African militia guy, I was thinking about doing Ash eventually... Of course, I'd have to find the proper sounds... Victory: "You see this?! This is my BOOMstick!!" Fidget: "You're shoelaces are untied"
Drift Jan 20, 2005, 12:07 AM This is so cool. Excellent anims and the crawling movement looks good, would've been sillier if it had burrowed itself when moving.
MoM's death mages are getting a serious graphics update for the next patch. I'm counting five new graphics for old units at the moment. Could be even more depending on your next moves with the skeletons. :)
aaglo Jan 20, 2005, 05:32 AM ... depending on your next moves with the skeletons. :)
These would be - or atleast now they seem to be:
- liche priest - a magician with an appearence of a skeleton
- undead spearman and swordsman (with less egyptian look - suitable for Sylvania-civ)
- skeleton pikeman (?)
- skeleton chariot (?)
- skeleton light cavalry with bow or spear (?)
...
:)
Achileus Jan 20, 2005, 06:27 AM Hehe! I take it you just spend all your time on creating Civ units, aaglo! No time for a job or anything... Not that we're complaining - thanks for another great unit. ;)
Drift Jan 20, 2005, 06:40 AM Thanks for the roadmap aaglo. :)
Will the liche be a 'pharaoh liche' a'la WH or something more along the lines of traditional fantasy? I'm asking because I could use something to replace MoM's Ghosts (Princesses with a ghostly palette) with, but I don't think an undead pharaoh is the thing. :)
aaglo Jan 20, 2005, 07:07 AM Yep, I thought about the pharaoh-type liche. But I'm also trying some stuff with the spectre I once tried... I'll get to that some time later :)
Raw is War? Jan 20, 2005, 08:47 AM Very cool!
Good job aaglo! :D
Snorken Jan 20, 2005, 09:42 AM Very nice unit aaglo! :)
oilfan Jan 20, 2005, 10:10 AM That is awesome!! Great unit!

No more Tomb King Skeleton Warrior with an axe?? :(
aaglo Jan 20, 2005, 03:23 PM the three dots (you left out of the quote) were there to mark those things that I forgot to list :p - and I guess the skeleton warrior with an axe is one of them :) (I don't know if there's anything special in the tomb king axeman though... the shield?)
Antiochus VII Jan 20, 2005, 04:08 PM The skeleton cavalry and chariot would be awesome if you could do those! Just a couple ideas but:
1) if you did a pikemen version you could do it in a grave guard style for Sylvania to give them an elite skeletal/wight unit and if you did that...
2)would there be any chance of a "black knight" style unit - a wight on a nightmare (if I'm not mistaken) for Sylvania?
Gomurr Jan 20, 2005, 04:11 PM Mostly the shield. Maybe you could give him an axe, but make it's axe-head like the blade of the Liche Priest's staff you're working on? The difference is mostly superficial, but I think the Tomb Kings could use their own warrior. Of course, if you're just tired of skeleton's by the time you get to such a unit, I don't suppose I'm in much of a position to complain. :)
Also, should you choose to make a Tomb King pikeman, giving him a weapon like that carried by the Liche Priest would be cool too.
Mr. Do Jan 20, 2005, 04:26 PM I think in terms of gameplay for the mod, the best things would be light cavalry for the tomb kings (chariots and lancers), and a good wight unit for grave guard would be great. I actually like the Black Knight unit used at the moment, it's more eerie-looking than the black knight units sold by GW (My own black knight models are converted from empire knights and so look a lot more like the unit used in the mod).
Gomurr Jan 20, 2005, 04:44 PM Personally, I think Sylvania could use an armored skeleton like those depicted here
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v98/AlternativeX/ArmoredSkeletons.jpg
But I'd prefer for the Tomb King army to be fully fleshed out (I know, none of the Tomb King units have flesh, but you know what I mean)
joeskip Jan 20, 2005, 05:30 PM I'm new to Warhammer but just downloaded the mod
do your skeleton units go with the khemri civ?
Gomurr Jan 20, 2005, 05:55 PM The ones aaglo has been making will go with Khemri, but they haven't been added yet. The next patch ED releases should have them.
Antiochus VII Jan 20, 2005, 08:20 PM "...but I think the Tomb Kings could use their own warrior." - Gomurr
I actually replaced all the early Khemri units including the peasant with the Egyptian units Kinboat made earlier and then upgrade (:hmm: - so to speak I guess) to the skeletal versions Aaglo has already done. I hadn't thought about adding an undead warrior version though.
Conquest Jan 26, 2005, 03:36 PM The kind of theing that makes you want to go out in a graveyard in the middle of the night
Kingpin Jan 27, 2005, 08:25 AM Cool... in a creepy sorta way...
Pirate Jan 28, 2005, 12:59 PM Ever thought to add a spirit rising up and disappating to the death animation? That would look awesome. That's a great, creepy unit. awesome.
