View Full Version : Unit: Mage, 2 Feb 2005
mrtn Feb 01, 2005, 07:58 PM This is a colour converted Abu Bakr king unit that's been given a new magical attack. The preview is unfortunate in that everything looks blue, but I assure you, the blue of the turban and the hem of the robe is civ coloured, just like Abu Bakr's, while the robe itself is blue whatever civ colour you choose.
The attack sound is a bit cheesy (i e it's stolen, and doesn't fit very well), if you can make a better one, be my guest, and please post it. :)

Enkidu_Warrior Feb 01, 2005, 08:26 PM do you have a preview mrtn? i dont have the software at work to view the flcs....
edit: nevermind, it's not that hard to download and install a viewer! looks excellent - love the attack handwork! and very cool death spin!
EW
tjedge1 Feb 01, 2005, 10:14 PM Nice work mrtn. Didn't you do something similiar to this before?
Gomurr Feb 01, 2005, 10:30 PM excellent. :D Sorcerer units are always needed.
Xen Feb 02, 2005, 04:22 AM very cool :)

Yep, made the Temujin attack.
Here's a civ colour preview:
tjedge1 Feb 02, 2005, 06:36 AM The new one is cooler. I might us both in a side project I'm working on.
Hikaro Takayama Feb 02, 2005, 08:04 AM This is perfect for the Blue Mage late game UU for the FFTA civ that I'd added to the FF mod. I was going to use the Temujin attack that you did, but this one's much better (since the blue mages in FFTA wear blue).
Sword_Of_Geddon Feb 02, 2005, 11:59 AM Because in Final Fantasy 5, the first game to feature the Blue Mage, has them wearing blue.. :goodjob:
When I saw this, it reminded me of one of the those Arabian Nights style Sorceriors like Jafar from the Disney Movie.
Plotinus Feb 02, 2005, 12:08 PM Yes, I saw Aladdin at the Old Vic last month (with Ian McKellen as Widow Twankey!) so naturally I think this is a wicked Arabian magician! Abracadabra, alakazam!

So does FF Tactics Advanced. As a matter of fact, that particular game has a rather mid-eastern flavor, and the Blue mage job charachters look almost exactly like this color converted unit (right down to the turban.....).
Sword_Of_Geddon Feb 02, 2005, 02:20 PM The original FF Tactics was heavily Western European...but that didn't stop them from throwing in a few East Asian things.. :goodjob:
Yoda Power Feb 02, 2005, 03:27 PM Very nice:goodjob:
If you don't like the fire attack, then why not use one of aaglos attacks from his shamans?
mrtn Feb 02, 2005, 03:35 PM I don't dislike the fire attack, it's just that I wanted a attack that was easy to fit into the palette ;)
Thanks for the kind words, everyone. :)
mrtn Feb 02, 2005, 06:30 PM D'oh! I forgot the pediaicons and units_32.
Get them in the first post.
tjedge1 Feb 02, 2005, 06:31 PM Thanks mrtn, I always get annoyed when I have to make them myself. I'm terrible at it. :)

That's actually one thing I'm good at, I've made loads to my personal mod. And corrected some bad ones by different creators, such as BreakAway. :mischief:
tjedge1 Feb 02, 2005, 09:11 PM Any chance I could recruit you for my beta testing to redo some of my awful looking ones?
mrtn Feb 03, 2005, 04:30 AM No, but maybe I could do them anyway. If you only have the unit I could make a decent looking small one at least, if you have some bigger gfx I could try for a large one too. But maybe this thread isn't the place for that... ;)
aaglo Feb 03, 2005, 05:18 AM Good job, mrtn :)
But, is it me, or is the mage attack animation some 10 pixels lower than the rest of those anims?

Yes, you're right, darn it...
It must have shifted position when I increased the frame size, stupid me, I should have remembered that happened to Temujin too...
1.1 in the first post includes the pedia icons and the fixed attack, if you just want the fixed attack, get it at the end of this post. Now it should work...
Thanks for the praise, you didn't claim that the attack was physically impossible, at least.
