View Full Version : How civ4 discussions will affect the game
Rhymes Feb 10, 2005, 07:01 PM Ok, sorry if this question has got an answer somewhere else in the forums, but I couldn't see it... And sorry if this is the wrong forum.... :crazyeye:
Anyway,
I've seen many very good ideas in this forum, (and some bad :) ) and I was wondering if our discussions are seen and used by people at either Firaxis or Take 2. Or by any other official decision makers for the next civilization game.
So how do you think fan suggestions will be listened to and used in the game developpment? Is this forum just for speculations and "what ifs", or does it actually have chances of influencing the game?
Blackbird_SR-71 Feb 10, 2005, 07:08 PM actually lots of people from Firaxis frequently browse this forum and get their ideas here. this is hugely influencing the Civ4 development.
Sub Feb 10, 2005, 07:20 PM Wasn't there a huge wish list that was sent to firaxis?
Civrules Feb 10, 2005, 07:31 PM I've also seen Firaxians lurking 'round here frequently.
They definitely look at our ideas and consider them. Any good idea, if they see it fit in the game they will most likely consider it. I'm not sure if there are any guys from Take2 here yet though.
Sirian Feb 10, 2005, 10:40 PM Civ3 forums have already shown to have some impact. For instance, Civ4 is said to be getting rid or revamping a number of "unfun" elements. How did Firaxis know which elements weren't fun? They listened to the forums over the years and got a good sense.
At this stage, it's probably unlikely that any radical, complicated, or overhauling ideas could be used. Take2 says they have scheduled the game for a release in late 2005, and the Firaxis company heads have said that multiplayer is ahead of schedule, so there simply wouldn't be enough time for really big changes. Simple ideas might have a chance to be considered.

Maybe they just come here for laughs.... which in a way would influence them, I guess
brinko Feb 11, 2005, 12:34 PM i swear i seen a guy named sid here, his user name was Sid...i felt unworthy to email him and ask him if he was the real "Sid",

Okay, Soren, they've figured it out, time to get back to work.

brinko Feb 12, 2005, 11:46 AM can a game developer ever design a game, and actually have fun with his own game?

If they did not have fun, they would not even be developing it.
dexters Feb 12, 2005, 04:53 PM Soren has been real good about trying to fix AI flaws with Civ 3, although sometimes, I feel like the Firaxians play off CFC against Apolyton.
When I posted mostly at poly several years ago, Firaxians would make important announcements exclusively on CFC, more recently, with respect to Civ4, it seems like the situation was reversed and Soren made a post about Health at Poly while we haven't seen much posting activing here.
Of course, it could just be my perception.
rbis4rbb Feb 12, 2005, 05:26 PM They did name a city Thunderfall...they must know of us.

Poly's "the list". :)
