Don't know if its been mentioned, but if you conquer (or build-havent tried) Sun Tzu Art of War, you can sell all previousally built barracks and conquered ones WITHOUT losing them. Its free money! :)

Sry if its been stated b4.

Hi,
sure, the same is true for the Pyramids.
It's a bit long to scroll over all your cities and check if the barracks/granary are "real" or wonder-built.
Other thing bothers me.
Sometimes, when I sell the granary, I get 15 gold and 15 shields, sometimes it's only the money. Does someone know what is it dependant of?
I dont consider this as a cheat...

You get the shields only after you've researched recycling.

No offense New World Order, but that is generally already known.

Cause in heaven there is no beer, that's why we drink it here, and when we are gone from here, all our friends will be drinking all our beer.

Yeah, its not really a 'cheat'. I assumed it would be well known anyway.

I agree that that isn't a cheat. The Pyramids and Sun Tzu's Art of War are supposed to build a granary/barracks in every city on the continent. If you already have a granary/barracks in a city, that doesn't mean a second one shouldn't be built, allowing you to sell the first one.

Just be careful if you just captured it. If you sell all the barracks and then lose the Sun Tzu city (by capture or culture flip) then you will be left with no barracks until you are able to recapture the city.

Yeah, this is an important point this one - whenever you get a "builds x in all cities" wonder, by default it keeps all the previously made buildings. It's a good idea to sell some or all of these to save on upkeep costs. This is especially important when you get hoover dam - sell those crusty old coal plants and save 3gpt each.

However, you can be in trouble if you lose the city with the wonder - this is a risk you have to manage. Obvoiusly the risk is greater in a captured city than if you built it yourself. You don't want to sell all your barracks / granaries / power plants and find the city flipping a few turns later.

I wouldn't regard this as a cheat either.

I probably knew this little fact at one point, but was too lazy to remember it, let alone use it. :mischief:

This also happens if you have barracks before you build the Art of War.

I've done this in every Civ III game I can remember... One time, though, I built Smith's and mistakenly sold my marketplace thinking it was free. D'oh!

So when I build The Pyramids, I get granaries in allready existing Cities, but do I get them too in Cities build after the Pyramids ?
What other wonders, beside the Pyramids and Sun Tzus Art of War have this feature ?

Temple of Artemis gives temples in each city; but it expires; loosing all (non-build) temples.
Hoover Dam places a Hydro Plant in each city.
Internet places a Research Lab in each City.

Actually, the Hoover Dam is the only wonder you need to do this to save upkeep(selling coal plants), although you can keep your old hydro plants. This is because upkeep is automatically paid for your old buildings as well as the free ones.

It is still a generally a good idea to sell off the old buildings for money. This was a lot easier in SMAC where you had a "Scrap and sell in all cities" command (might also have been something similar in Civ2).

If you've gotten Sun Tzu Art of War, how do you sell the second barracks? Also, is there any advantage to having two barracks in a town (speed for instance)? Thanks.

There is no "second barracks," it's just that if you'd already built one, you can sell it and it doesn't go away.

Just right click on the building you want to sell in the city display, and one of the options will say sell. Click on that and a message will prompt you if you really want to sell it. Hit whatever option you want to do, then it occurs. There are buildings that you can't sell, however (palace, aqueducts, hospitals, wonders).

Can't say I have done that "cheat". Sun Tzu's is the most powerful wonder in the game, in my opinion, so I always try to build it myself. In my current game, the Babylonians beat me to it. But I just conquered my continent anyway, and just have to play defense now. Put up 5 barracks, and those high-shield cities will produce all my future units.

In the city view
Right click on the barracks/granary(left of screen),

If you can sell it, the option will become availlable. :)

Yeah, you won't see two of them, just the option to sell one if you have a pre-existing improvement. This, of course, goes for all wonder generated improvements.

I didn't know this. I always thought that you had to remember to sell (barracks/granary) one turn BEFORE getting the wonder. Didn't know that you could still sell them afterwords. Sweet - one less detail to worry about.
Sometimes, the sale can add up to hundreds of dollars, which can be rather significant at that point in the game.
