A new ruler has taken over the America's and he rules with an iron hand. To build things, we need more citizens, and we need them quickly. It is decided to rush build a granary in Washington and New York. With lots of stored grain are civilization grows faster, allowing us to build more (i.e. granaries are not the only thing to rush.). It is also decided that we need to get off this island, so after the discovery of bronze working, it is decided to research towards map making (very important). The scouts were sent around the outermost perimeter of the island, and we discovered another civ. As of now we have no way on contacting them, but from the looks of their city (Niagara Falls) I will guess its the Iroquois. Well I am passing to the great beyond (for at least four turns), but I have attached an image so you can see the fruits of my labors (and where the Iroquois are ). Our scouts have also discoverd a barbain encampment, the archer from Washington is being sent to disperse this group of interlopers, the scout is being use to lead them to the archer, and the spearmen from New York will be sent to protect our worker. Good hunting.

LKendter

Limit of ONE attachment per post.

Since we can see the Iroquios unit - Right click and ask to contact. Another civ this early will help our tech a lot.

Tightly pack the cities! One south of Washington and one east of Washington.

I noticed that, too. I'll be able to do my turn tonight if I get the right save file in the next few hours.

Is there a screenshot function in Civ3 that I've overlooked, or are you all using an external program to capture shots?

Sorry, I sent the wrong file. This one has the correct file, and my summary.

2150 BC: Emperor Magicbacon I ascends to the throne by a remarkable circumstance involving all of the previous king's ministers dying of unknown causes. But such thing were not unknown in the American Despotism, and no one paid much attention. In his first year in power, Magicbacon I ordered construction of a granary in the city of New York, to feed the city in times of famine, and traded the science of architecture for the Iroquois secret of embalming their leaders to grant them immortality.
2110 BC: The Emperor ordered his colonists to form a new city, south of Washington, named Boston.
2070 BC: Food riots in New York plunged the city into chaos. While hurriedly *hurrying* production on the granary with some alternative motivation, he gave the citizens enertainment to keep their minds off of their pathetic lives.
2030 BC: The rioting in New York has died down, and the enertainment is kept as a permanent fixture to prevent further uprisings.
1990 BC: A Celtic village was raided by our Archers, capturing 25 gold pieces worth of slaves.
1950 BC: New York finishes organizing a group of colonists, and begins training of a phalanx.
1910 BC: The empire is in *boring* peace
1870 BC: Emperor Magicbacon I authorized purchase of the Iroqiois secret of aiding transportation with round disks called "whels" for a mere 60 golden pieces. Regrettably, the continent of the Americans contains no horses to pull these whelled carts.
1830 BC: Washington finishes construction of its training grounds, and begins formation of another band of colonists.
1790 BC: New York finishes training its phalanx, orders it to guard the city , and begins on a temple to the mighty pantheon of the Americans. A new city, Philadelphia, is founded north of New York.
1750 BC: We discover the secret of representing sounds with symbols, which our wise men call "alphabet." We begin to look into ways of combining these symbols to "write" things. Boston has completed its militia unit, and begins on a temple to our dark gods.
1725 BC: The American empire has nothing of note happen to it
1700 BC: Not now, either.
1675 BC: Ditto
1650 BC: Washington finishes formation of a colonist band, and begins work on a phalanx for city defense. In negotiation with the Iroqiois, it is observed that we have many more cities than they.
1625 BC: Again, a spell of time punctuated by mind-numbing boredom
1600 BC: Upon learning that the treasury has a grand total of 10 gold pieces in its holds, and is operating at a deficit of -3, the emperor raises taxes to balance this out.
1575 BC: New York has completed a Barracks, and begins on a *colossal* statue that is to stand in the harbor, as a sign of America's trading prowess.
1550 BC: Washington begins work on a temple, with their Phalanx trained and manning the ramparts. The City of Atlanta is founded to the North East of Washington. (O.O.C.: THEY CHOSE ATLANTA??!! OVER BALTIMORE? CURSE YOU FIRAXIS!)
1525 BC: In the waning years of Emperor Magicbacon I's life, he orders Philadelphia to build a temple. Regrettably, although he was near the end of his reign, the king tragically tripped and impaled himself on a poisoned arrow, thus ending his unproductive and ridiculously long reign.

Ok, We've got three new cities, but this continents fillin up fast, we should continue on map-making, then take out the Iroquois in my opinion. After all, why build what you can steal?

up next - Jaffa Tamarin

Micromangement - New York city - drop the entertainer, in favor the grasslands. Saves 2 turns of building time. The number of times I have lost by one turn:crazyeyes Mine the other 2 spaces by New York next. The Great Lighthouse could be critical this game (even after patch). I want New York at maximum production.

Build more cities - One between New York and Boston. The other north of Philadelphia. Until we get forbidden palace, this island will be our main production base.

NO military threat - wait for barracks and veteran units.

Map Making is next - I want to know what the island east of us has. If empty, a major plus. Don't decide about the Iroqouis until we know about the island. Zero resitance if empty, and close to Washington.

Jaffa Tamarin
Dec 07, 2001, 02:04 AM
1500BC First act of the incoming King Jaffa was to send the public entertainer in New York to work instead in the city's research labs. There was much complaining in the streets, but the cause of science would be progressed that much faster (7 turns to Writing). New York is stuck at size 6. Would like to build more workers here, but don't want to waste progress on Colossus. Bah. The one existing worker is told to get back to New York to build mines.

1475BC Production in Atlanta switched from Warrior to Worker. Still 7 turns away.

1450BC Not very much to do, really. From diplomacy screen can see that Iroquois have still to develop the Alphabet, but they don't seem willing to offer very much for it.

1425BC One more population in Washington and Boston. Treasury has just 11 gold, and growing at +1 per turn.

1400BC The Iroquois are building the Pyramids. Why weren't we doing that? Could still switch to Pyramids instead of Colossus, maybe.

1375BC From Diplomacy screen -- Iroquois now have a third city, and still no Alphabet.

1350BC Nothing.

1325BC Nothing.

1300BC The secrets of Writing are discovered. Apparently we are able to establish an embassy with the Iroquois, even though trading of goods is still impossible (we can't afford an embassy yet, though). Atlanta produces a Worker. 24 turns to Map Making with +0 income.

1275BC Temples completed in Washington and Boston. All useful mining completed in New York area (now 9 turns to Colussus). Washington tasked with training a Settler, Boston starts work on a new Palace as a placeholder for the Great Lighthouse.

1250BC Nothing. Iroquois up to four cities.

1225BC All useful improvements around New York completed. Worker moved to Boston.

1200BC The Iroquois have discovered the secrets of Iron Working. We sell them the Alphabet for 3 gold per turn, and then trade Writing for Iron Working and another 1 gold per turn. Iron is discovered in the hills near Washington.

1175BC With the extra gold from the Iroquois the research time for Map Making is down to 18 turns. And we're running a surplus! A whole +1 gold per turn!

1150BC Nothing.

1125BC Washington finishes Settler. He is dispatched towards the NW end of the island.

1100BC Moving Workers around.

1075BC Nothing.

1050BC New York has completed the Colossus. A great celebration ensues! Hmmm. When did New York lose its scientist? Resurrecting the scientist shaves several turns off Map Making research.

1025BC Satisfied with his contribution to American civilization, King Jaffa fades quietly into the night.

Notes: Settler has arrived at the location I would choose for our next city on the NW spur. Go for the Lighthouse in Boston when we learn Map Making. When they have finished all useful improvements around Boston, I would consider merging one of the workers with the city to gain extra production faster.

Now to figure out how to do attachments :)

Hey all, Im new to this fan site...but am I correct in thinking you've found a way to play multiplayer (via e-mail at least) with Civ III? If so, could some one send me (very very detailed) instructions on how I could be a part of this? I've been playing CTP, CTP II and now Civ III, for almost half a year now, Civ III still kicks my little behind, but I've only had in for a week at the time of this post...so I've only got about 110 hours of experiance playing it...:D I'm so friggerty hooked on the game that my room mates are making pycholigist jokes at me. Please tell me I'm not abnormal! (or at least no more so than others ;) ) and let me in on how to get with all you Civ fanatics!:D
My E-mail addy is... redjohn8@aol.com
Fire me a message and help me out!

"The Iroquois are building the Pyramids. Why weren't we doing that?"
The island was so small, I didn't see a benifit.

"Apparently we are able to establish an embassy with the Iroquois, even though trading of goods is still impossible"
We need a harbor in order to trade.

"Iron is discovered in the hills near Washington."
ALL RIGHT!

"Go for the Lighthouse in Boston when we learn Map Making".
New York should build the light house. Boston produces 4 shields a turn. New York can produce 13 a turn without the scientist and using the forest. On an island world this could be very usefull, even after the patch. This would also prevent the need for
"When they have finished all useful improvements around Boston, I would consider merging one of the workers with the city to gain extra production faster.". We are light on workers, and can't afford to lose one.

The new northern city is in HIGH risk zone for a culture flip. Start a temple, then rush build as soon as possible. If the Iroqouis flip that city, it will hurt big time. Connect a road to the capital is claimed to reduce the risk.

The GREAT news. 8 turns to map making. When map making is complete, flip Boston to galley (Rush build). Have the scout, and a second unit in Boston. If we can be the first county to the island east of us :) Don't trade maps. I know the Iroqouis will head to that island :(
I am convinced this could be the key to us wining the game IF the island will support more cities!

Just some thoughts:

Have a settler and spearmen ready to take the next boat trip to the island.
Do not trade the Iroquois Map Making.
Get another galley ready to go on a possible voyage of exploration, we need to know what this world looks like, and who the other civ's are.

I agree - don't trade Map Making! Good idea.:goodjob: I only thought about the maps. That further reduces the risks of the computer finding that island.

The first to settle another island will be a deciding factor. I really want a island close to Washington (less corruption).

I didn't think of it, but yes, switch to a settler now. Move several units toward Atlanta. Settler, defender, scout and warrior.

I know I can't wait for the my turn to see what that world looks like:love:

Hobbes
Dec 07, 2001, 02:46 PM
Another way of stopping them from discovering/reaching the island. If we have some extra galley's we can block off the route around our island. All you have to do is put three of them in a row, in the only available coast squares. If they want to get by they have to go to a sea square with the corresponding chance of the ship foundering. If they do this and the ship does not founder, just move the ships a few tiles back, sooner or latter their ship will sink (yes I do admit that this is a good waste of three ships, but it will work, especially if the AI has units on board - in my experience the AI seems less likely to risk a ship when it has units on board).

It's not quite as simple as all that. New York produces 11 per turn max -- 2 are lost to corruption. Boston can produce 6 per turn now, and 12 per turn if it gets to size 6 (because of lower corruption). You'd have to do some serious math :crazyeyes to figure out which is actually capable of getting to the Lighthouse first.

You're right about us being short of workers though, and getting Boston to size 6 quickly would definitely need some worker sacrifices.

Heh. It's Zulu Fodder's choice :)

[Edit: of course, thinking about it some more, Boston wouldn't have enough food to support a population of 6, so you'd better go with New York.]

Not good news, but here we go.

1000 BC-Chicago founded in the far north of the island. Temple is immediately ordered to be built. A worker is ordered to build a road to the city from the capital.

975 BC- A road is completed to bring iron into the economy.

950-A group of scouts from New York are training, eager to explore the island to the east.

925 B.C.-A settler group emerges from Washington for the same reason

900 BC- Nothing of interest

875 BC-The scouts announce they are ready and start the trek to Atlanta.

850 BC- We are close to the discovery of map making.

825 BC-We have fully researched mapmaking and plan to put it to good use. A Great Lighthouse is planned to be built in New York in honor of this discovery. Atlanta starts on the very first galley.

800 BC-The group of settlers are ready for their trip to the East Island.

710 BC- The settler and scout group set sail towards the east!

690-Noticing we are losing three gold an era, I urge our scientists not to work so hard. 60% efficiency will suffice for now.

670 BC-The scout and settler lands on the island. Immediately upon landing, horses and a highly productive span of land can be seen.

650 BC-Spearmen and Warrior land on the East Island. Our scout brings back terrible news. The island is VERY small.

610 BC-Seattle is founded on the best spot they could figure. To raise spirits and hope, a temple is immediately planned for construction.

590 BC-President Zulu Fodder resigns.

Uh. I suck. I'm sorry. The islands size was a real bummer. :(

1 - Change boston to Great Library when literature is researched.

2 - Build another settler for the small island, and place in on the hill. Our land is very limited, this will use the whole island. Ok, it is small, but it is OURS.

3 - Keep building culture. Niagra falls / Chicago boundaries clash. I would love to flip Niagra falls :)

4 - KILL the scientist in New York and put him to work. This gains 2 production saving 6 turns on The Great Lighthouse.

Took over and before reading LK's post, did all those things, as I noticed em.

590: Activated the Swordsmen (SM from now on) in Wash. and moved him towards Philly. Maximized shields in NY. Switched to harbor in Seattle, and exploring north of Seattle with Galley.

570: Building Barracks in Philly now that the Galley is done. Terraforming some land around Chicago, it needs the help. Boarded the SM near NY, and bringing irrigation to Atlanta

550: Discovered Literature, moved on to Mathematics. Good tech to sell or trade. Disorder in Philly, moved warrior from Chicago to quell it. Rushed Temple in Chicago. Phalanx and Warrior fortified in Seattle.

530: Temple finished building Spearmen in Chicago now. Looking for a good place to land that SM near Niagra. Rushed Barracks in Philly.

510: Land SM, Iroquois also have Iron and have a lot of spices. Washington builds last SM for awhile, moving to library. Bringing SM to Philly for a possible war with Hiawatha. Dont see any possible sea routes pre-GL or without going through the Iroquois. Hiawatha threatens me. We go to War.

490: Moving Scout of Seattle Island. 2 succesfull assualts on Niagra, I think its gonna fall soon. Irrigation to Atlanta started.

470: Niagra Falls is ours, The city has no improvements, and poor production value right now, 4 spices in city radius. A major blow to Hiawatha. I only hope we can hold it. Spearmen in Niagra first order of business.

450: Forbidden Palace is buildable. I think we should take control of this island first before building it. More SM are on the way. Moving a worker up to Chicago. Looking for land to the north, bringing the galley around. Found Oil Springs with an injured SM, Bringing the other to help. I think we can take it with the fresh SM I'm bringing over.

430: Irrigating near Philly and Atlanta. Landed fresh SM in Niagra. Killed a threatening spearmen, and got Elite Status!

410: Fortifying the Elite SM in Niagra as to heal, brought the fresh Vet SM out to kill something. Found a land mass north, its 3 squares, one is a hill with gold, and 2 grassland, not much, but something.

390: Temple done in Atlanta, starting on G-Library. Production not good in Atlanta, irrigating more by it. Another Swordsmen on the way. Soon to have 4 SM, 3 vets and elite over there. Tunda to the north, turns out to be Iroquois controlled.

370: SM heading to Oil Springs ran into some resistance on the way, not even hurt and picks up Elite Status, thats 2 Elites. Moving a Vet southwest to Allegheny, could be an easy target. Exploring north tundra area. Mathematics discovered, Mysticsm next, might still be able to get the Oracle.

350: Fighting towards Oil Springs, more spice is discovered, and can see the boundry of a city north of Oil Springs, must be in all tundra. Moved vet SM to mountains north of Allegheny. I think we can take this city as well. An Elite SM on the way to help. I'm gonna road and Mine hills near Atlanta.

330: Iroquois SM comes into veiw near Allegheny. I put off an attack, until it decides to move or attack my fortified SM.

310: Bringing Irrigation to Wash. now, and wash. finishes the library going back to vet SM in that city. Never know when that iron is gonna go. Full HP Elite SM arrives outside Oil Springs, have a red SM move onto his position for safety, Iroquois units are coming out of the woodwork. Allegheny still has pestering units outside of it, preventing and assualt on it, would hate to lose a SM to a warrior due to injuries.

290: Killed a pesky Vet warrior near Oil Springs. I still lack the units to finish these 2 cities off, I have more on the way soon though. After some thinking, I decided to change Atlanta from the G-Library to a Harbor, and Switched Boston to the G-Library. Chicago finishes Spearmen and it gets brought to Niagra, now i can move out the defending SM to help with an assualt on Oil Springs or Allegheny. Alas, Hiawatha offers peace. I squeeze Horsback Riding (only thing he had), his World Map, and 100 gold out of him. His island is also small and not much better than ours, less plains though.

270: After getting his map (He still dont have ours), I see a possible land mass to his west. Taking a Galley around to check it out. Philly builds SM, switch to Palace for future Wonder. Fortified SM in Philly. Mining near Atlanta should help its production woes. Unfortunetly moving forces back to Niagra per the peace treaty.

250: Still moving units back, preparing for a possible sneak attack soon, got alot of hurt SM, hurts to lose Elites early, so better to let em heal.

230: Wash. builds SM, moving him to Philly, for transport over soon. See a fish south or the Iroquois land, indication of land south west of us.

210: For some reason Philly disorders, Entertainer made. Still Irrigating to Wash. SM fortified around Niagra for the next person to utilize.

I have not Installed the Patch to the Patch yet, do we want to?

I forgot to sell the Iroquois Mathmatics, I would avoid using Per Turn, I dont think we'll be at peace very long, at the time of our treaty they hade 236 gold, they should still have around 140. Thier military felt the pain of our SM, and is now weaker than ours. A few stray workers might be enough cause to go back to war with them. I'm not sure on the reputation draw backs, but being so limited on land mass, wars might be the only way to acquire some.
Mysticsm is about done researching, but I'm not real sure if thats what we want to go for. Both the GL and the G-Library are relatively close to being done. Science Advisors says we are tech advanced, GL might not help as much as we'd like, If something better comes up, maybe switching to it, would be better. Seattle has a harbor in the works along with Atlanta, that will bring horses to Wash. and furs to Seattle, sounded good at the time. Didn't notice horses on the Iroqouis land, that maybe to our advantage come war time. They do have have Swordsmen though, but none are Vets or Elite. 2 SM in Philly needs to be brought to Niagra, and a galley is close (its north a bit) with a scout on it. Wash has no Improvements needing to be built, and is pumping SM right now. I probably should of never signed the treaty, but we needed the cash, and the map to answer our questions on their land mass. Good luck next guy. :)

190BC - Lee step back in. I cancel the Palace in Philadelphia. We are to far away from any wonders, except Great Wall. We need defensive troops, and Philadelphia starts building spearman.

70 BC - We build the great lighthouse. San Fransico is built on the horse island and starts a temple for border lock.

50 BC - Whip out a temple in Niagra Falls. Don't want a culture flip. Building a harbor next. We need this to eventually use the spices.

30 BC - Rome beats us to the Great Library. :(

10 BC - Seattle whips out a harbor. We should have horses soon.

10 AD - First contact with the Egyptians. They are 4 techs ahead of us, and know of 4 civs. I swap territory map ONLY. Our main island is culture locked, so they don't gain a thing. I give the Iroquis territory map for $20 and his world map. We can use a lot on money right know.

30 AD - The empty island to the west of Iroquis gives us a tribe and a warrior. ZZZZzzzzzzz

110 AD - We have horses! I hate to help the Iroqouis, but I sell Mathematics for $142 + Mysticism. Greedy Egypt wants over $100 for any communications. NO DEAL. I finally buy Polytheism for $190, territory map, and contact with the Iroqouis.

150 AD - YES, a usefull tribe. The Zapotec tribe teachs us Philosphy. First contact with Russia for FREE. We sell Construction for territory map and Contact with the Romans. Sell territory map to Russia for Contact with Germany and $7. Sell Germany Polytheism for Code of Laws and $19, then trade territory maps.

170 AD - Sell territory maps for a couple of bucks.

190 AD - Miami forms on the very small island. Sell territory maps for a couple of bucks.

210 AD - WAR! We go after the Iroqouis again. We capture 2 workers. 9 swordsman walking to Allegheny. Sell territory maps for a couple of bucks.

Summary
We know most of the other civs. I have build up our defenses well. We are now pretty much even with tech.

With the patch we can only go one extra level of water. Don't send galleys into the ocean. However, we can still cover the seas.

Goals -
1 - Domination will probably be how we win. Get border locks.

2 - Keep World Map in DON'T TRADE MODE! That west of Iroquis island is a nice size, and has 2 iron deposits.

3 - We are approaching our limit on supported troops. Watch building more military.

4 - Good Luck. Scout next to a goody hut.

5 - I started Monarchy. It is a race of finish Monarchy, or build a WORTHLESS Palace in Boston. Hanging gardens is much better then 400 wasted shields. Find anyway to pick up some money (such as sell territory map for a buck or 2. Do everything you can to insure Monarchy finished at least 2 turns before palace.

6 - Send those capture workers back to our island. There is still a lot of work to do.

7 - Keep the library building in New York. Will be a hugh science boost with the Colusus.

8 - Keep exploring with the Galleys. Who knows what is out there.

Could try turning all of Boston's population into scientists, which would both speed up Monarchy and slow down the palace. At least until they all starve. I haven't let any of my cities stay in starvation -- what exactly are the ingame effects? Do you lose population, or they just get unhappy?

DOH.

Thats what I get for playing at 1:00 am :crazyeyes

If you starve Boston, people will die :( However, if really bad - switch to the NO shield grasslands. I don't know how soon until the AI gets Monarchy, so I would prefer to get it sooner. I think the deficit can be handled by selling territory map every turn for a $1 or 2

Will post the full story tommorow, but the short version is: we got three Iruoquios cities, Salamanca, Oil Springsand Alleghney. Through some tricks we got Monarchy, and thus Hanging Gardens. Have some new islands also, one close to Miami, that has iron and horses. Will do full post tommorow.

Hobbes - :goodjob: in Iroquis land. Workers not at borders, temples to avoid culture flips, and get border lock. Harbor to get the spices out.

Magicbacon, you may want to wait for Hobbes commentary before moving.

General notes - I took a look at the map - it looks nice.

1 - The galley east of Miami with has a settler with veteran spearman. Land by the big island with Iron. That blasted resoure fizzles to much - like the deposit by allegheny :(

2 - We are 3, maybe 4 turns from cracking the whip in Niagara falls. I want to be able to sell those spices. We may get a few techs from them. At least some money, and reputation help from trading.

3 - We do want to lock those Iron / horse islands. Greece has no Iron, Egypt no horses, Russia no Iron, German no Iron. The longer we can keep them away from that resouce ...

4 - Once New York finished aqueduct - start another palace. Nobody know Feudalism yet. Sun Tzu isn't that powerful for us, but I don't want Russia to have it.

5 - After the libraries, we need more spearman to occupy Iroqouis cities and free up the swordsman for conquest.

Where is the mystery player who nobody has found?

If we can get a great leader, forbidden palace in Iroqouis island. Would greatly help our production base, our big weakness.

210 – Rush build Seattle temple to get lock on island.

220 - Find hut, 50 gold, lose a swordsmen to Iroquois.

250 – Capture Allegheny, find island.

260 - Egypt is building Hanging gardens, put rush order in for Monarchy. Switch some cities to wealth as it becomes available and manage citizens between scientist and tax collectors to minimize time.

270 – Kill a few Iroquois.

290 – Take Salamanca, through intensive education program everyone is turned into scientist, a few people do starve, it happens. They will be replaced with loyal Americans.

300 – Bump science to 90%, Egypt wanted world map for Monarchy, I said no thanks.

360 – Get Monarchy, build Hanging gardens. Get golden age (don’t switch to Monarchy/Republic until golden age is over, we would lose the bonus for 6 turns).

410 – Trade furs to Cleo for Currency, territory map and 20 gold. Trade furs for Duff beer (makes citizen happy), territory map and 20 gold.

Just a few notes, I found another island to the North of Miami, there seems to be nothing around it and it has iron and a horse, there is a galley with a settler and spearmen heading towards it. There is also a conscript warrior that we discovered. Also if we switch to Monarcy, let make sure we have a few 7+ cities, they will support more units.

From the manual for Monarchy, a town(<6 citizens) supports 2 units, a city (7-12) supports 4 units and a metro (>12) supports 8 units.

Another thought, for our island outpost, we should send more settlers ASAP. We can use these settlers to join city and then we crack that whip. Normally I would use workers, but space on the galley is limited, so I think we can get more bang for the buck by sending settlers.

War is over! The Iroquois have been defeated!

Other stuff: some trading early on. We still have a spare unit of furs.

Switched government from despotism to monarchy.

The island west of the Iroquois (as was) has been settled. We have Buffalo, the Russians have Grozny.

New York is about to produce a settler. Either decide on a location for a new city, use to transfer population to boost production in Washington, or change production to something else before first turn.

Need a harbor on the Iroquois island so we can trade all those spices.

Greece will trade for furs.

The city should be on the Jungle island south of San Francisco. That could turn out to be a source of Rubber / Coal. Lock up the potential future resources. Just be carefull with the voyage.

770 AD- Started researching Chivalry. New York is building Pikemen.

780 AD-Trade furs to Greece for World Map, 10 gold, and 3 gold/turn

790 AD- Cultural Influence expands quite a bit.

800 AD- Road is built to Iron near Houston.

810 AD- Salamanaca goes into unrest. I give them entertainment. The Harbor in Niagra Falls is rush built for 212 gold.

820 AD- Order is restored in Salamanaca. We Love the President Day celebrated in Houston. Settler in New York is loaded into a galley and is headed toward the island south of San Francisco. We trade spices to Russia for The Republic, World Map, 1 gold/turn, and 2 gold. Trade Japan spices for world map, 10 gold, and territory map. Trade Germany spices for world and territory map.

830 AD- WLPD in Salamanaca and Atlanta. (is this a record? Yeesh!)

860 AD- Spent 3 turns manouvering galleys, workers, and managing cities production.

880 AD- St. Louis is founded on the island south of San Francisco. A pikeman guards it. It will need a lot of culture, methinks, to fend of the large civilization right next to it.

:goodjob: to Zulu Fodder. Harbor on-line, spices trading, and recovering from the Iroqoius war.

Trade spices to Egypt and Greece.

Wake the Iroqoius workers hiding in cities. We are weak in land development and 3 workers would help.

The question? Should we start forbidden palace in Salamanca? This would increase our production base big time.

Of the other civs building Copes, neither one of them have the prod. to keep up with Wash. or NY, only Pompeii is building Leo's, but they havent been building it for more than 18 turns.

Lee takes over after 1070 AD. We review the game, and establish an embassy with Germany and Russia.

1080 AD - I take over, to lose the race for Sun Tzu :( Washington builds university wasted 41 shields, and New York switches to Bach's Cathedral.

I begin any deal to gain money, even junky $1 for a map. Our potential trades are lousy. All the civs are broke.

1100 AD - I scrap the scouts. No use at this point, and why waste the money?

1140 AD - Scrapped up enough money, and an embassy with Greece. Finnaly, Germany will give us $2 for spices. Not much, but we have plenty to spare.

1150 AD - Japan declares war on Egypt.

1160 AD - Revolution. I think we need the cash flow from Republic.

1210 AD - I still can't get a dime out of Japan for spices. ALRIGHT! $4 a turn from Greece for spices.

1220 AD - The American republic is formed, and the last embassies are in place.

1230 AD - Lousy trade, but I continue to get incense from Japan for spices and furs.

1250 AD - Corp Obs is built by someone else.

1255 AD - Meaningless war - Peace treaty between Egypt and Japan.

1260 AD - As my reign ends, my final gift - Bach's Cathedral. With our continent size, not to helpful to us. However, it keeps it away from those guys on the big continent. We can use a big culture boast. Detroit built in the jungle area. I want to lock a potential source of rubber.

Goals -

Don't bother with Leo's. Way to many people ahead of us.

I started a palace in New York. Research economics next. Smith's trading company would help our economy big time!

Some more military, but development is ok again.

My 20 turns scapped the archers, scouts, and regular units. Majority of defenders are now veteran Pikeman.

I very boring rule . Attempted to put another settler on the island with Houston, but the Russians beat me to it, so we settled the island next door, city of New Orleans. Found another city on the Iroquois island. Got banking and noticed that the Egyptians already had it, so I decided to shop it around. Got gunpowder from the Russians, and gold from all the other ones (who can make a worthwhile offer). Discover economics, and decided to have Washington build the ASTC (21 turns vs. 27 for New York), New York switched to University. Have started to build a few Knights and have started to upgrade a few pikemen to musketmen. We have a source of saltpeter on our home island.

Another uneventful reign here. We were running a slight deficit, but once Wash. finished ASTC and New York finished its bank we were making a healthy surplus of +27/turn. Elephantine finished Magellans voyage. We discovered Physics and started on theory of gravity. I suggest we trade that tech when we get it for metallurgy or some such. We also gave the greeks our extra iron in exchange for printing press. (Hey! It wasn't DOING anything)
And some such. We are strong compared to every civ except Egypt and Russia. Once we are finished building our current stock of banks and happy buildings we need to get some serious military mojo, otherwise the comps will push us around.

Good news - Forbidden palace in 5 turns. We finally see the production boast.

Switch the specialist in New York to entertain. It will trip WLTK day.

Our culture rating is stuck, so start Newton ASAP. Nobody is building it yet. Big science / culture help.

Review: renegotiated to current (higher) market rates all the expired (past 20 turn) trade deals where we were giving away our luxuries for peanuts. Didn't touch the deal selling iron to Rome - we're getting 3 gold/turn, and can safely cancel it if our local iron supply expires :) Gain one extra luxury (Ivory from Egypt) - WLTK celebrated in Chicago, Philadelphia and Atlanta!

(2) 1445AD Discover Theory of Gravity. 6 turns to Industrial Age! Washington switches from Bank to Newton's University - complete in 11 turns (after careful population shuffling).

(3) 1450AD Russia demands Theory of Gravity, for free. Piffle. Don't give it to them. Instead we donate our territory map. Egypt wants to trade their world map for our world map. And metallurgy. Instead, trade them metallurgy for 15 gold/turn. Agree to right of passage with Rome after they complain about our galley near Virconium.

(5) 1460AD Forbidden Palace completed :)

(6) 1465AD Entertainment tax raised to 2 points. WLTK days break out all over :)

(8) 1475AD Japan demands Printing Press. Again, say no and give them territory map. We discover Magnetism and enter the Industrial Age!!

(9) 1480AD Traded Economy to to everyone who didn't have it for whatever they could afford.

(13) 1500AD Newton's University completed in Washington :) :)

(18) 1525AD Steam Power! Railroading begins :) Trade spare iron to Greeks for Military Tradition and 5 gold/turn. All knights upgraded to cavalry.

(19) 1530AD Rome wants to trade territory maps. Whatever

Pretty uneventful 20 turns for me. Trying to get us ahead in the science race. We can probably squeeze a Space Victory out of this. Culture victory is gonna be almost impossible, our people are impressed with other civs culture. I worked on that a little bit.
We are no longer a republic either, I switched us to Democracy.
Egpyt, Germany, and Greece are at war with the Russians. The Russians might be able to fend them off on thier mainland, but Egypt is tearing em up on the outskirt cities. The Russian city below Buffalo is gone, and has an Iron deposit. I got a settler 1 turn from founding a city there.
Were at 1200gp making 70/turn at 2.7.1 right now. Scientific Method is almost researched, and im focusing on the bottom half of the tech tree, until we build ToE. Speaking of Wonders, Wall Street was set up to finish in 6 turns at 1580, but i switched Wash to Universal Suffrage, and put New York on Wall Street. WS will be finished in 13 I think, and US will be done 6.
Got our Island cities linked to the luxury network, and currently Irrigating all those mines by Seattle (Mines on plains suck). Courthouses are in the works where they need em. Our science is going good, but we still lack Universities in key cities. We could probably get a big lead before hitting the Modern Era. I suggest we dont trade too many techs this late.
Every Luxury is coming in to all cities, and WLTK is going on in most cities. I'd watch out for Egypt, and put some defense up in Buffalo. They look antsy to go to war with us, and they have MPP with Greece and Germany (both are weak, but provide us with income). Anyway, heres the game.

1700 - Universal sufferage is completed. Greece declares war on the Russians.

1735 - Russia and Germany sign a peace treaty.

1740 - Boy, talk about short lived peace. Germany declares war on Russia.

Here is the short story, I will post the rest tomorrow. Not sure if it was exactly 20 turns, it switched from 4 to 2 in the middle, and I was not keeping an exact count, it should be close. No wars, just a lot of RR and micro managing cities to get population and shield production up. We just discovered refining, and we are also short of oil along with rubber. Now I am not saying to start a war with the Egyptians, but the island that Houston is on, has two oil tiles and a rubber tile. Just a thought, and by the way, I have started to move forces to Houston, just in case.

:shotgun: :egypt::ripper:

1764 – Another glitch with the patch. Look at the foreign advisor screen, and it says we are at war with the Russians. Nobody told me that, so I pop up the diplomacy screen, and it says peace, WTF. Well, since were not at war with the Russians I trade furs for dyes & 1g/turn.

1768 – Manage cities to get population up (change a few mines on grassland to irrigation).

1776 – Greece is attacked by Russia, Greece wants an alliance, check to see if they have anything to offer or for that matter if Russia does, neither do, so decline alliance.

1780 – Greece cancels furs trade, won't even accept counter offer. Shop furs to Russia, get 10g/turn, WM, and 160g.

1786 – Cleopatra demands tech to stay in her good graces, I tell her I'll take my chances with making her mad. She walks away. Russia and Greece sign peace treaty.

1792 – Discover Refining. We have NO oil. After a careful examination of the map, it is noticed that the island that Houston is on, has two oil tiles and one rubber tile, two strategic resources that we are deficient in. Don't forget Cleopatra came to us a short time ago demanding tribute, maybe we should do the same?

Quick version: we have oil, but no rubber. We're at war with Russia (and so is everybody else).

Slightly less quick:

Started off creating a settler in Houston to grab the oil squares on that island -- Cincinnati, the oil city, founded in 1806.

Traded for rubber from Russia, but it only lasted 4 years before they declared war on us (after I refused to give them Espionage). During that time, I upgraded a lot of our riflemen to infantry.

After Russia declared war, a quick round of diplomacy (aka bribery) and we have military alliances with everyone against Russia. War so far has been quiet -- we've just taken and razed Bubastis on the Houston island.

Finished building Intelligance Agency (New York) and Battlefield Medicine (Washington).

I only played 16 turns -- it's now 1824.

Enjoy :)

I am downloading right now, and starting to play.

Zulu fodder and Scoobs are both dropped.

Effective now: 48 hour turn max. I have been watching the pace in some of the other games, and this one has gotten lost.

Well it is obvious what to do, beat up Russia :) Nothing much to do on the trading front, to many broke civs out there.

1826 AD - I have an objective, Hamburg / Frankfurt and RUBBER! The only question, am I to late? Russian and Egypt sign a peace treaty.

1830 AD - Russian Ironclad sinks our frigate. Ouch, the transport rushes back to port in a panic.

1842 AD - Blasted Egyptians, they catch us trying to shortcut to the Russian cities. We get auto moved to the wrong side :(

1846 AD - Our iron trade goes from 33/turn to 8/turn.

1858 AD - We capture Hannover from the Russians. Not much of a city, but you don't know where resources will show up.

1860 AD - Frankfurt is stubborn, and kills a couple of calvary :(

1862 AD - The cossack army in Frankfurt is dead. Still a Russian city.

1864 AD - Frankfurt is still Russian. Unless I can bomb that Infantry down to one point, not worth risking the last two Calvary. I have Frankfurt surrounded to that no body else will surprise us.

Summarry - The next transport and escort are under construction near Atlanta, and they are also heading to the block of Russian cities.

Up next - Hobbes
I would really like this to be a 48 hour turn around game.

edit - Deleted old game save.

I will post the rest of story tommorow, but we are still at war with the Russians, not much of a contest. Our biggest problem is dealing with all the polution casued by our factories cranking out tanks and bombers . :D We will have fission in 6 turns, I have a palace going in Salamaca, it will be finished in 7 turns, so we should have the UN as soon as we get fission. Treasury, trade, relations with everyone except the Russians looks good.

1866 – Russian Cossacks attack and kill riflemen outside of Frankfurt. Russian ironclads destroy improvements near Denver. American artillery and naval bombardment soften up the defenses at Frankfurt, American cavalry rushes in a captures Frankfurt. We now have rubber, and for some reason, which I do not understand (because we have no harbor at Frankfurt) we have rubber in all of our strategic resource boxes in our city display. What does this mean? Build tanks quick, we do.

1868 – Start barracks at Frankfurt, rush next turn. Rubber disappears from strategic resource box of all other cities except Frankfurt; we are still building eight tanks. :goodjob:

1870 – Move troops to Frankfurt. Tanks begin rolling out of our factories.

1872 – Start moving military to outer American settlements, just in case. Start harbor in Frankfurt, disband ironclad in Frankfurt, rush harbor. Russian counterattack is spent, build fortress two squares from Hamburg, and prepare for bombardment. Move battleships to Hamburg.

1878 – Bombardment of Hamburg works, Hamburg captured and razed.

1880 - Dallas founded, in tile next to remains of Hamburg, this way we control a rubber and a wine tile :) (you can never have enough luxuries). Also the Romans had settled the area west of Frankfurt before we could get to it.

1882 – Russians capture new Roman city on the outskirts of Frankfurt, American troops land next to Berlin.

1884 – Berlin captured, we control the Pyramids. :egypt:

1888 – Russian's call up and want peace, let the answering machine pick up. Romans want MPP, decline, do not want to get into any other wars right now.

1890 – Russians ironclads continue to shell area around Denver.

1894 – Start palace in Salamaca, in preparation for fission.

1896 – Capture Byzantium from Russians. Discover flight, start researching fission. Start building airports, at least on each island, a few on our production islands.

1898 – First airports completed, start building bombers.

1900 – Japs want to cancel trade deal, we need the incense, so I cave in and give them gold along with the other furs and ivory, want to keep them and our own citizens happy.

1904- Build tanks, battleships and bombers.

Ohwell

Up Next - magicbacon

You get to end this one.

Military / domination is out.
Cultural is out.
Space Race - Do we have enough high production cities?

Give every thing away to every civ, and VOTE immediately. This is out best shot.

Keep fighting the war with Russia no matter what, even if just on paper. Peace with Russia could hurt of relations with most countries.

:goodjob: Hobbes :goodjob: Perfect setup for this weak position. I am happy that you finally broke the bottleneck at Frankfurt. That city was work.

Jaffa Tamarin - GO FOR IT!

You should only need to play seven turns. Just make sure that palace doesn't accidently finish BEFORE fusion.

Hobbes set us up great, and with my ideas, we should get a diplomatic win for this one.:D

Actually took just five turns :)

1906 Egypt complains again about our troops taking shortcuts through their territory. I pay them 10 gold for a RoP, which keeps them happy and quiet.

1908 Some fighting in which we take, and then lose, Pharsalos. We gain a Great Leader!

1910 Playing around with battleships.

1912 Japan and Russia sign peace treaty. Egypt demands Replaceable Parts, which I give them. Many of our cities go into unrest as war weariness hits, big time. I bump the science rate to give us Fission one turn earlier at a cost of 320 gold.

1914 We get Fission :) Salamanca would take 3 turns to finish the UN, so I rush-build it with the leader in Berlin. Salamanca builds the Manhattan Project. Give away all our technology (but still can't get Egypt or Japan better than polite, oh well).

UN vote, America vs Japan. Russia abstains, Japan votes for itself (boo! hiss!), everybody else votes for us.

Diplomatic Victory 1916, score 1704 :king:

  Really couldn't wait to end the game, could you? Use a leader for 2 lousy turns??

:smoke: :smoke: Congrats on ending the game :smoke: :smoke:
This was the last of my first block of succesion games. Since I am working again, running 2 at a time is enough. Of course, at the pace the Babylon game is going I may need to start another soon.
