View Full Version : Adding a unit... game locks up

After the initial exhilaration of creating my very first working FLC, I added it into the editor and fire up Civ to see it in-game. I did all the pedia stuff, checked my spelling, and everything. Everything was fine until I got to the intro text popup, and the game locked up. No error message, no crashing to desktop, it just stopped responding. My computer was fine, it was just the game itself. Any ideas what could cause this? I think I've caused every error message the game has to offer, but I've never seen it just stop like that.

IIRC, this happened to me when I was trying to test my unit creation. I believe the unit file itself wasn't saved correctly, though I don't remember what area needed to be fixed.

It might have been a storyboard frame size...I want to say that was it...I had an extra pixel row or something. Also check how you imported the finished file, and any conversions of it.

First I tried replacing the FLC with a Firaxis one to make sure it wasn't just something wrong with the biq, and it worked fine. Then I remade the FLC from scratch and tried again. I could click the circle on the text popup, the the info box for a different unit showed up, the minimap showed up, and... then it froze. Strange.
This time I made the FLC without borders but other than that it was the same and everything seemed to be fine in Flicster. All I did was make a storyboard, C&P the frames in, index the picture, set the last 2 palette entries, and export to FLC.

Are you sure you made a civ 3 unit .flc, instead of an ordinary one?
Just making sure...

Yes, I used FLICster and it said Civ3 unit FLC.

This has happened to me also. Haven't figured out why yet.:hmm:

I suggest you load one FLIC at a time as the unit, see if any of them work solely. If so, you know which ones potentially were saved improperly, became corrupted, or aren't standard frames, etc. If not, you know that it's definately your conversion/import/export filing.

That will help you isolate the problem. Right now you are 'looking for a needle in a haystack,' and in a sense - have 'never seen the needle before.' If you can limit your search, you will increase your attempt to solve the problem.

It's only one FLC, with 1 frame. I did it twice, so I must be doing something wrong with the FXM. Does it mess up the storyboard if I convert it to RGB and then back to indexed after I C&P?
