This poll is to determine if we want to use the World Seed. For those of you who don't know, the world seed is a random number (or word) you can enter to come up with a world. For example, we could pick "Demogame".

Are there any reasons we would want to use it? The only use I could see for using a seed is so some people could play the "demogame world" on their own. And that opens the door to cheating and abuse. Let's just skip over this particular feature of C3C.

Not really. The world seed uses the world settings. There's many utilities out there to extract the world seed, and world stats.

Besides, someone could just as easily select "play last world".

I vote NO for what I do not care to understand. Can one of the proponents of using the World seed enlighten us to its true purpose? Because as of this time I am confused, and therefore unconvinced.

Suppose, after the game is over, you would like to play the same map but maybe choose a different civ. Entering in the world seed will recreate the game parameters and map. I am not sure if it will also end up with the exact same resources, starting locations, etc.

I don't think it gives the same resources, but I'm pretty sure it's the same starting locations.

I think it does give the same resources, since it's the same 'random number'. The world seed was put in as an extra "fun thing" when setting up the game.

the resources depend on the climate settings and temperature settings(as certain resources have to be in certain terraiN) you can also play the exact same map but say in year 3 billion to give it more mountains, or play it as arid, the land shap will be the same....

Also the starting locations might change because of various seafaring civs.

I voted no and just let the RNG give us something. I feel like playing in a random mood this DG ;).

No seed - we must put all our trust to the RNG god, for he is both good-natured and wrathful, both of which make a good DG.

Don't trust him too much. I was doing some test-runs with these settings and wound up on a 4-city island with desert and tundra in the middle of the ocean. ;)

He was no doubt angered by your blasphemous thoughts of having us specify our own world seed. ;)

Ah, but I never specified a world seed in that one. ;)

The RNG god is omniscient. Your thoughts and intentions are as an open book to him.

Reminds me a bit of The One, really. :D

I say we do as we always do. Burn some inscene, light some candles, chant a bit and threaten to sacrifice me to the RNG God if I dont shut up.

I remember someone wanted to do that..just dont remember which game.

I reckon we should use a World Seed, if not for anything else simply so we can look back and say "Map Seed blahblahblah made a really good map"

A seed would keep the DP honest. No restarting after lost battles.

I think there are two separate discussions going on here.
Should we designate a specific world seed?

Should we select preserve world seed?

As far as the original world seed goes, I would sacrifice SaaM to the RNG God and hope He is merciful. However, I would like preserve world seed selected so that reloading the game doesn't change the outcome of battles, etc.
