View Full Version : Turnchat Summary Thread Chieftess Feb 20, 2005, 08:50 AM This thread serves as a "History Thread" of each turnchat in the game. The DP of that turnchat will post a summary of the game, as well as game stats (optional). DaveShack Mar 04, 2005, 12:36 AM Creation chat was held as scheduled, with approximately 10 citizens in attendance. It was pointed out that culturally linked starts were on in the 2nd page, and this was corrected. Note: the screenshot shows it as ON because it was taken before this setting was fixed The game was created without further incident. Our starting position has 2 wines, 2 fish, 2 forest, and 2 bonus grass. We're standing on a coastal wine tile. See the turnchat thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=113456) for screenshots and further details. DaveShack Mar 07, 2005, 10:56 PM Summary: 4000 BC, Monday 3/7/2005, 1500MST (GMT-7) The capitol, Camelot, was founded in turn 2 (starting from 1) one tile SE of the starting position. Workers irrigated both wines and roaded one of them, while Camelot produced a Warrior and Curragh. For those without Conquests, a Curragh is a small, rowed boat which normally has 2 movement points. Our seafaring attribute (playing as England we are seafaring and commerical) gives all ships +1 movement, so the Curragh has 3 movement. The warrior, named George W Bush, explored to the north where cattle were located, then he trekked across some grassland to another mountain to the west. This revealed even more cattle. He then headed north a ways to reveal the land in that direction. The end of the schedule 10 turns came, but insufficient information was revealed about the land surrounding the 2nd cattle, so play proceeded for 5 additional turns. Purple borders were discovered on turn 15, and President DaveShack handed off to the next in the CoC because he had to leave for a family gathering. Two turns later, contact was made with Ghandi of the Indians. Play stopped on turn 17, as the predefined conditions for stoppage (meeting another civ) were met. In the queue we have another warrior, followed by a settler. The 1st curragh is mapping the coastline to the east of our starting position. Priorities are determining the 2nd city location, determining the direction of exploration that George should take, and future build queue beyond the settler. All officials are reminded to post full information about the in-game material pertaining to their office, or to make arrangements if they do not have the ability to open the save. DaveShack Mar 16, 2005, 05:08 PM Summary: Sunday 3/13 The first four turns were rather uneventful, just moving our exploring units, though our exploring curragh spotted a goody hut on the Eastern coast. In turn 5, George (W Bush) found the Dutch, who have an impressive food market for their apparently 2nd city, with 3 (!!) wheat. In turn 6, our curragh located the Chinese, and play stopped to discuss trading options. The Dutch have Bronze Working, Ceremonial Burial, 42g. The Chinese have Bronze Working, Masonry, Warrior Code, and lack Alphabet. DaveShack Mar 16, 2005, 05:16 PM Summary: Wednesday 3/16 We started off with some movement left and potential trades on the table. Trade instructions were to buy Ceremonial Burial from India, then see what is available. The preference would be to use Masonry as the middleman tech. The actual trades turned out to be: Bought CB from India for 108g Sold CB+Alpha+2gpt to China for WC Sold WC to India for BW+111g Sold WC to Netherlands for 28g We are now down just Masonry to China. Not exactly what we were hoping for, but it is within the scope of the discussion that the commerce director based the instructions on. Play continued for 3 turns. Our warrior George didn't see much of anything exciting, but the Curragh saw an unguarded Chinese settler about to snap up some gems on a mountain. During the 3rd turn, our curragh met Persia who also have Masonry. There are two major strategies at this point, either buy masonry from whomever will sell it cheapest and then we'll know we have it when someone else has something to trade, or let it go in hopes it will be even cheaper. Not wanting to impinge upon the citizens right to discuss this (after getting castigated for not stopping and being liberal with instructions last term 1) play stopped in the middle of turn 3, with some movement left. DaveShack Mar 27, 2005, 06:54 PM I fell behind a bit on this page. Sorry, I'll try to get it cleaned up so we have at least a historical record in summary form. In the meantime, here is the most recent session, since it is the one which is most drastically needed. Play started a little late after my computer hung up trying to open all the stuff I need to play a chat. Echoed instructions Turn 0, 1750BC MM Camelot to wine, 2BG, forest. I can finally say it. FINISH researching Philosophy. Take Map Making as our free tech. Following that, we have to stop, as I forgot that in C3C you can't use placeholders. And @ my friendah da chekt: i know this isnt a discussion thread, but we've set the next settler for spot 4. After that, though, then we don't know where were going for OXFORD. Micromanagement None. All cities at +2 fpt. Director of Expansion, I have to apologize, I'm a little behind. I haven't had time to put together discussion and polling on the next settlement. Please end the chat after a settler and escort(if used) is built. This should be somewhere over nine turns, and shouldn't make the TC shorter than it would normally be. <DaveShack> no problem, we'll end when Philosophy is learned anyway ;) Director of Infrastructure: Operation - Iron Glory Turn 0 - Go to the iron tile by Donsignia. Turn 1 - Build a road (3 turns). Turn 4 - Build a road on the cattle by Donsignia. Turn 5 - Join the worker from Roosting Tree with the workers on the cattle. When the workers are done, move to the forest 1W, and chop it down. (this'll get the worker out a little quicker -- the city should be size two by then). Next, build a road. Have the other worker mine the bonus grassland 1SE of Bentley. Office of Commerce Given that the Governor has not left instructions for the use of a scientist, the use of the favored 80/20 slider rates should probably be used, though if population changes permit a more favorable rate, it may be changed, assuming that Philosophy research time is not lengthed. Should Philosophy be finished, select Map Making as our next tech, pursuant to earlier polls on the subject. I request that, after Philosophy is done and we've recieved our reward (assuming it comes), that the turnchat be halted so we may examine further trading options. Should we be met with a foreign demand at some point for either tech or gold, it will probably be in our best interest to give in to the demand. However, if the civilization making the demand is geographically located far away with no troops visible in our area, or if we are stronger militarily according to the in-game advisors by some miracle, seriously consider not giving in. These are the only guidelines I can lay out - the DP should consider these when making the decision. that's the end of instructions... starting Turn 0 Roosting tree warrior renamed Steven and moved to Donsignia 2 workers move to iron next to Donsignia GWB takes a look inside The Hague on the way back to our territory Clubbings moves NE along Dutch border Inquisitor moves S, sees Japanese warrior (we know them) Checking MM all cities -- ok set camelot to barracks - settler - warrior donsignia barracks - spear Roosting tree worker - barracks Provolutia worker = warrior Bentley - warriors End of Turn 0 - 1575 BC Taxes 0% / Science 80% / Entertainment 20% Current Treasury = 210 gold ( -1 gold per turn ) Researching Philosophy. But things did not go as well as hoped. In total we lost 4 cities and built 1. 2 were lost to flips, one capture and 1 gifted. We razed Arnhem and built on the Iron/Wheat site. 90 BC The first turn in particular took a long time, mainly just to find everything - lots of units to move, and my first time to find them all. Utrecht and Holwerd became Halls of Mandos and Striders Haven http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_BC0090_TC01.jpg Our troops were located, but many had already moved this turn. All the workers had also moved. Over There was switched to a Warrior which would be built next turn - it was 7 turns for a Spear and the city would be gone by then, but a Warrior gave us the benefit of some of those shields before the city was gifted to the Indians. We have only one more core Dutch city to recapture plus the two that we lost last time. The Dutch now have Fuedalism. We are also at War with France after they sneak attacked us. 50 AD - Turn 0 The first task was build queues, and thanks go to our citizens (Fanatannian and Dutch) in New London, Halls of Mandos and Ela Springs who lost their lives in industrial accidents to complete a Library and then 2 Temples in their respective towns. Our workers work to improve our lands and our troops gather and heal, and the warrior in Provolutia was retrained as a Sword for 60 gold. We injure a Dutch archer N of Halls of Mandos with our Cats, while our troops are gathering for Amsterdam. An opportunity by Breda is spotted and a Horseman and Spearman (for protection) move in to pillage the only road to/from Breda and slow the progress of the Dutch Archers in reaching our lands. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0050_TC201.jpg We end the turn with 976 gold, +54gpt, 10.0.0, Engineering in 19. Furiey May 13, 2005, 06:11 PM Turn 3 – 270 AD We pick off the Byzantine Warrior and Dutch Spear and move our troops towards Auchtermuchty and Middelburg. The Maya have Engineering! Some Dutch and Fanatannian citizens lose their lives building a Temple in Chaos and more Dutch die getting 20 turns from a Temple in Falls Church – risky business this construction work! Our Workers move to start on the wines near Oxford. Sir Issac moves to Oxford – he can be in Regentham (where another citizen dies to complete a courthouse) next turn. Two cities for the loss of 2 Swords. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0280_TC02.jpg We pick off the Archer and Spears to improve our negotiation position and see what the Dutch will give for Peace. They will nearly give Fuedalism and Monotheism, the chat is stopped to discuss all the options – do we pay a bit to get Monotheism as part of the deal or take Republic instead? We stop with 1843 gold, +62gpt, 10.0.0, Engineering in 6. Furiey May 15, 2005, 07:38 PM A momentous set of turns, we made Peace with the Dutch, got Fuedalism, Monotheism, Monarchy and Republic and researched Engineering as planned. Turn 0 – 500 AD With no instructions for either province, the queues from last time are maintained. No instructions from Trade either, and the poll for the Gunpowder trade was tied. The minister had not voted, but had indicated the he would do the trade. Doing the trade now also allowed alliances to be made that would expire at the same time as the trade, allowing us declare war on Persia immediately they all expired – if that’s what we wanted to do. It was possible to include the alliances against Spain, France and Byz in the Gunpowder trade at no extra cost, but the alliances on their own cost over 400 gold. The theory was to make the alliances first, paying for them so that if the alliance was broken by Persia they would still keep paying the gold on the trade, the gold we paid would then be recovered in the Gunpowder trade. At least that was the theory. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0500_TC601.jpg http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0500_TC602.jpg http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0500_TC603.jpg http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0500_TC604.jpg Then go to do the Gunpowder trade. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0500_TC605.jpg Yikes! Only 19gpt now? They must have been trading with one of the Civs they declared on as a result of the alliances. Not good, but possibly a blessing in disguise as if we had done the alliances in with the deal they would not have been able to pay once they declared war, and the usual AI reaction to not being able to pay is to declare war. This would lose us not only this deal but the 56gpt we’re getting on the previous one! But the Maya and Byzantines already have this. Our Advisor suggests Banking; perhaps we should listen to him. We end the session with 1085 gold, +82gpt, 3.7.0, Astronomy in 6. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0690_TC703.jpg Furiey May 30, 2005, 09:30 PM To trade or not to trade, that was the question throughout this turnchat. Maybe we missed opportunities, maybe we slowed the techpace, either way we didn’t trade. Byzantines have built the Sistine Chapel so we need to rethink our Wonder build, plus the timing of our Golden Age. Militarily things went well, with the Dutch finally eliminated and the Spanish right down to only a few cities. Culturally our growth continues with several Temple rushes in outlying regions and the start of our first University. We now have the highest culture per turn of any Civ. Turn 0 – 690 AD First job is to de a few upgrades. The Elite Knight in Cengiz is moved out and 2 Vets are moved in. That makes 10. Add in the 2 Elite Horses that are getting too old to be much use and we have 12 Cavalry to be used next turn. The remaining 8 Knights are 3 in the Army, 2 Elite, 1 fully moved in Blacktopia and 2 in Chinese territory. These last 3 will be upgraded next turn. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0690_TC801.jpg We examine the trading options, but with inconclusive discussions in the forum it looks best to wait until we can stop our alliances and re-examine the possibilities next turn. We then spend a little more gold to get some border expansion in the Chinese sector, donsignia changes to Sistine Chapel, Heroic Epic gets added to Husborne Crawley’s queue and the preturn ends with 293 gold, +169gpt, 5.5.0, Banking in 8. Those Dromons are going to get a nasty surprise when they do finally land. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0690_TC803.jpg http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0690_TC802.jpg IBT: http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0690_TC804.jpg http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0690_TC805.jpg Continued in next post.... Furiey May 31, 2005, 06:57 AM Turn 1 – 700 AD Our remaining 3 Veteran Knights are upgraded, plus 1 built in Camelot gives 16 Cavalry! http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0700_TC801.jpg We re-examine the deals. There’s a lot of gold on offer, but the Byzantine deal would probably go down once we stop the alliance. Byzantines have also broken our last deals and this finally sways us. If we sell to Maya they will sell to Byzantines, so with the split discussion in the forum we decide to watch and wait for any change in the value of the trade that would indicate either Maya or Byzantines were researching Chemistry. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0700_TC805.jpg Our Army is now near Liveratica and we can start the move to Valencia next turn. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0700_TC802.jpg Cavalry now guard both the Spanish Archer and the Dromons and we end the turn with 372 gold, +152 gpt, 5.5.0, Banking in 7. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0700_TC803.jpg http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0700_TC804.jpg IBT: Our Culture finally expands over the tiles NE of Rivendell, and after all that waiting the Byzantines land… http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0700_TC806.jpg http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0700_TC807.jpg http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0700_TC808.jpg Continued in next post.... We even have fresh troops remaining to move to the Chinese sector. Barcelona isn’t so simple, we take out a Pike, a Spear and a Knight, but the injuries we took in the IBT left us with insufficient healthy troops by 1. We fortify and wait it out. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0740_TC806.jpg The turn ends with 668 gold, 163gpt, 5.5.0, Banking in 3. We defeat a Pike, lose 2 Cavalry in a row injuring 1 Pike to 2/3 and another to 1/3, then defeat 2 further Pikes. A 3/3 Knight is up next, unfortified. We lose 2 Cavalry promoting it to 4/4 then injuring but promoting it again to 2/5. It’s replaced by a Pike we injured earlier. We win, the Knight is back and this time it falls. After the loss of the Sistine Chapel to the Maya we kept our prebuild and switched to Smith’s Trading Post via the big picture as soon as we researched Economics. The timing was perfect; we completed the Wonder on the same turn, without wasting shields. Building Smiths started our Golden Age and our production soared, even some of the very corrupt cities we able to build culture as a result. With the increased production in our core, as well as producing some Cavalry we built or short rushed some Aqueducts to allow cities to grow and take advantage of the boom, but the primary production focus was Culture. Militarily, we captured Madrid after declaring on Portugal to remove the Sword blocking our way. The final Spanish cities and the 2 Portuguese cities behind our lines quickly fell to our Cavalry. We made Peace with the Byzantines before the Dromon fleet could land, but they have continued on their way. The 2 Dromons that were near Rivendell about to land went home. We have nearly completed the acquisition of the land we need, next Term it’s France! Furiey Jun 04, 2005, 10:22 AM Turn 7 – 860 AD The Hitites now have Navigation, but we still have the Monopoly on Chemistry. We attack and capture Canton, then spend a little gold before the turn ends with 1966 gold, +302gpt, 4.6.0, Physics in 2. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/DG6_AD0860_TC901.jpg http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/DG6_AD0860_TC902.jpg IBT: http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/DG6_AD0860_TC903.jpg http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/DG6_AD0860_TC904.jpg Continued in next post.... Furiey Jun 04, 2005, 10:23 AM Turn 8 – 870 AD A short turn of building and healing our troops for battles to come. We rush some more culture. Happiness is on the up – the last unhappiness from rushing in despotim is now gone. We end the turn with 2034 gold, 375 gpt, 5.5.0, Physics in 1. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/DG6_AD0870_TC901.jpg http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/DG6_AD0870_TC902.jpg IBT: http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/DG6_AD0870_TC903.jpg http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/DG6_AD0870_TC904.jpg Continued in next post…. Furiey Jun 04, 2005, 10:26 AM Turn 9 – 880 AD The French Galley has appeared North of Rivendell – maybe the Spices and Saltpetre draw them there. We’ll have to wait for next turn to see what they land. Persia is suffering though, the Byzantines have taken Trebizond and the Maya Salamanca. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/DG6_AD0880_TC901.jpg http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/DG6_AD0880_TC902.jpg We found Najora and then that’s it. We end the turn with 2409 gold, 303gpt, 5.5.0, Magnetism in 5. Then I press the button for the last time. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/DG6_AD0880_TC903.jpg IBT: The French land. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/DG6_AD0880_TC904.jpg Continued in next post…. Furiey Jun 04, 2005, 10:26 AM Turn 10 – 890 AD We reach Turn 10 on the stroke of midnight, completing the term. Everything is left unmoved (including our Knight Army moving towards France), and the 2 French Archers are left by Rivendell – the first target of next term. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/DG6_AD0890_TC901.jpg We end the term with 2712 gold, 313 gpt, 5.5.0, Magnetism in 4. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/DG6_AD0890_TC902.jpg http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/DG6_AD0890_TC903.jpg Chieftess Jun 11, 2005, 07:39 AM Page 1: 890AD-940AD Our elite sword, Knights of Solema, defeats a Portuguese invader, and spawns a Great Leader, forming our first Cav army. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0890_GreatLeader.jpg Boudicea heads to Barchester to form the army. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0890_GreatLeaderb.jpg Meanwhile, on the warfront, Rhiems has been captured, and our troops head into France. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0910_warfront.jpg Lyons is underseige, with Orleans in their sights! http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0930AD_Orleans.jpg Lyons has been captured! A glance at the battlefield... http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0940AD_battlefield.jpg There are our ICS (Infinite City Sprawl) cities to rush culture improvements in. Since this is an 80% pangaea, we need to squeeze in as many cities as possible. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0940AD_ICS.jpg Meanwhile, the Byzantine war with Persia is going well for them. They have begun to take some Persian cities. This could be a growing concern at a later date... http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0940AD_meanwhile.jpg Also, Byzantium has built several wonders that we've been looking to get. It's a good thing they aren't too large, or we'd have company in our quest for a culture victory. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0940AD_wonders.jpg Chieftess Jun 11, 2005, 08:32 AM Page 2: 960AD-1000AD Thing were going slowly, but surely until the Mayans tried unsuccessfully to steal one of our techs! http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0960AD_MayaSpy.jpg In other news, the Persians are still on their quest to circumnavigate the pangaea! They failed to make it a few turns later, though, as they met with the pack of Dromons heading north. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0970AD_IntrepidPersians.jpg Also this turn, the traitorous citizens of Rata Tomik revolted and rejoined the French! Thanks to the explorer pillaging their saltpeter, only a spear remained, and was quickly killed. The city was reportedly starved to size 1. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0970AD_Traitors.jpg Meanwhile, the path north continues, as Rik Meleet and his Dutch Cannon Brigade lead the way into the heart of France! http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0980AD_DutchCannons.jpg Yet another invasion attempt by the Portuguese occurs on nearly the same spot as earlier in the turnchat. They were quickly dealt with, however, no great leaders spawned this time. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0990AD_Invasion.jpg Also this turn, rioting was going on in Naples due to war wariness. Several of these unproductive citizens were quickly turned into scientists. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD0990AD_WarProtests.jpg Now the real fun begins! Rik's cannons bombarded Paris to weaken their units. The Crusader in the area was soon dealt with. The Ancient Cavalry tried to attack our units, and lost. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD1000AD_Cannons.jpg Back on the eastern front, France has sent a longbow from their far-flung colony. This unit, too, was quickly defeated. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD1000AD_EastFront.jpg Chieftess Jun 11, 2005, 08:59 AM Page 3: 1000AD-1010AD We successfully took Paris, and the Knights Templar! Too bad we'll be researching Steam soon... http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD1000AD_Victory.jpg Meanwhile, having completed a quick list of DoI instructions, our workers were standing by, ready to build railroads. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD1000AD_Prerail.jpg -- In between turns -- In 1000AD, we learned Steam Power! Several of our cities could build the iron works. (screenshot below) http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD1000AD_steam.jpg Atleast one city can build the Iron Works.... http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD1000AD_IronWorks.jpg This effectively nullified the effects of the Knights Templar. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD1000AD_notemplar.jpg In 1010AD, we built the first rail, coming out of Camelot! The railnet has begun. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD1010AD_FirstRail.jpg Looking over our cities, The Halls of Mandos looked to be the best spot for the Iron Works. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD1010AD_IWcity.jpg We also own a virtual monopoly on coal, minus one source, which belongs to the Maya. Too bad they don't have the tech for it yet! The upper end of the continent is very resource-dry. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD1010AD_OnlyCoal.jpg Chieftess Jun 11, 2005, 09:03 AM Page 4: 1010AD-1010AD The railnet has started, with our workers busy working on the railroad. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD1010AD_Rails.jpg Here are the resources in our western core, including the coal/iron spots. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_AD1010AD_ResourcesWest.jpg |
