View Full Version : Term One R&T C: Oxford Is Hiring
Stuck_as_a_Mac Feb 27, 2005, 06:18 PM Welcome to the Term One Resources and Technology Counsul. As with all the departments, this is in its experimental phase.
Dean of Oxford: Stuck_as_a_Mac
Ominous Tree Branch: RegentMan (Now with 100% less space!)
This department deals with stragies for Resources and Technology. As a reminder, we neither create the final queue nor do the trades. We set up stragies.

RegentMan Feb 27, 2005, 11:31 PM Ominous Tree Branch: Regent Man
The title is... interesting, to say the least. And take out that space between "Regent" and "Man," or I'll beat you to death with my ominous tree branch! ;)
This will be interesting. Quite opposite strategies between the #1 guy and #2 guy.
Provolution Feb 28, 2005, 05:24 AM SAAM can be happy to have an intelligent and considerate assistant subordinating himself
the majority support shown in that poll. Not everyone are that lucky. However Regentman, this is an excellent opportunity to put strategic resources as a nr 2 to the main plan drafted by SAAM, and thus accelerate iron and horses on the map.
Stuck_as_a_Mac Feb 28, 2005, 05:23 PM I had an idea while I was busy trying to hit a high b this afternoon in rehearsal.
This office is technically two, right? So why not have the Dean be the R part and the Tree branch be the T part? Less work, more to do, and the Deputy spot has meaning.
Whaddya think?
(plus, it leaves RegentMan free to pursue an Iron/Horse stragey while I work on getting us to Philo/Map. All he has to do is look out for the trades (or huts). Then he gets to mark where they are and stragiegize all he wants.)
RegentMan Feb 28, 2005, 07:03 PM Hmmm... would you please care to elaborate, Stuck? Sounds like an interesting proposal.
Stuck_as_a_Mac Feb 28, 2005, 09:31 PM I supose it goes like this:
In traditional, R&T C was technically three departments, Trade, Science and (in a way) FA. Now its one big, planning department.
I am not advocating the split. I am fine with one big ol'department. However, I am suggesting that we try to divvy up the responsibilities to more than one person. We have two people in this office, the title has two parts. Resources and Technology. Let the chair have one part and the deputy have another (chairs choice)
One term (like this term), the Dean can have Technology and the Tree branch can have resources.
Just gives work to both people and lets it be managable. Thats it.

RegentMan Mar 01, 2005, 12:07 AM Consul for Resources and Technology Policy - Decides on long term tech queues and long term resource policies.
So I'd have a say in long term resource policies? i.e. I see three luxuries within settling distance, I need to create a plan?
Stuck_as_a_Mac Mar 01, 2005, 07:21 PM Well, we cant settle, but yeah.
That's what I was aiming at. Letting you do your thing with the resources. A way to (hopefully) merge both of our platforms.
SaaM
RegentMan Mar 01, 2005, 10:23 PM I don't think we'll ever be successful at a complete merge, but I feel that this is an acceptable compromise. I'll work for the resources. Thanks, SaaM!
DaveShack Mar 05, 2005, 06:44 PM I see a discussion and poll on tech target is up, this is good though a little short sighted with respect to the new long-term planning roles. Have you considered asking the people how we want to distribute technology between things we research ourselves and things we trade for? At this difficulty the answer should not be we research a lot of things ourselves. Careful choice of what not to research will let us focus our resources on technology which can be traded for several things we bypass.
This office is also responsible for planning whether we try to research quickly at high cost, or slowly so that our gold can be reserved for trading opportunities.
Ashburnham Mar 05, 2005, 07:50 PM What do you have in mind for our bonus tech if we research Philosophy before the competition, O Consul?
Stuck_as_a_Mac Mar 06, 2005, 09:39 AM Well, that all depends on our situation. Odds are we will take Map Making. But, of course, should we not need it immediately, we could do something else. But odds are on MM.
RegentMan Mar 06, 2005, 11:14 AM There has been interest in map making, literature, and the republic, so I suggest polling those options as we get closer to discovery.
classical_hero Mar 11, 2005, 12:45 PM I'm not sure if this is the right office but I'll ask this question. What should be the tech of choice with regards to Government?
RegentMan Mar 11, 2005, 12:51 PM Personally, I want monarchy. But I know a significant amount of people want the republic. A poll would show my vague description more percisely, but I have an instinct that republic will gain the upper hand. Although if we do a poll, then we should add feudalism as well. Do people know that feudalism is now a government in Conquests?
Stuck_as_a_Mac Mar 12, 2005, 05:13 PM Thats the another discussion, to be done later (and by later, i mean a bit). We will offer the three gov'ts as well as reports on all of them and then see what people want.

DaveShack Mar 17, 2005, 01:38 PM Thanks to a reminder from Provolution, I would like to point out that this office is also responsible for determining WOTP for general policies on trading for technology. We need discussion(s) which cover at least the following topics.
Are there any circumstances we should not trade techs to others?
Are there any techs we should prioritize attaining via trade? Any techs we should not bother to acquire?
What boundaries should we place on tech trade? Don't buy monopolies, don't pay more than a 10% premium? Don't accept less than 80% of the tech's cost? Take whatever profit we can?
If we have similar deals from multiple potential trading partners, how should we choose which one? Are there any other civs we want to keep backwards intentionally? (needs coordination with External Consul)
Thanks :)

Provolution Mar 19, 2005, 09:17 PM Honorable Consul
We need to plan for building Lighthouse, and let it coincide with changing to Republic.
We may need an earlier Golden Age to get out of this situation.
Please look into tech policies that allows us getting Republic asap.
I forgot, Iron first.
Black_Hole Mar 19, 2005, 09:53 PM We can wait and buy iron in a trade... After we get our free tech from philosphy get CoL then Republic. Hopefully we can get into a republic before our golden age starts. However since we are not religous, this plan could slow getting the wonder 3-7 turns(anarchy)
As such, I would advise not trading map making
Stuck_as_a_Mac Mar 22, 2005, 09:34 PM Alrighty... part one has been achieved, now we need to try to coincide the aspects. Now, should we get the gambit, no one else have one of the prereqs and it will take some work to make the two fall in place. I'll have to ask domestic (or whatever it is) to give me some numbers in regards to how long building the GL would take.
I'm still not sure if we should research CoL ourselves. Perhaps after Philo we could go for something else (currency? (or math...))
Thats the next discussion. Tomorrow, otherwise known as when I'm not tired.
And yeah. I aint trading writing or Map Making.
RoboPig Apr 02, 2005, 11:40 AM O Consul,
Where can i find a list of all the resources of all the civs?
RegentMan Apr 02, 2005, 02:14 PM This is the term one thread. The term two thread is over here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=115567). There is currently not a list of other civs' resources but if you'd like, I could make one.
