View Full Version : New Unit: Type 97 Chi Ha tank 02/27/05 ripptide Feb 27, 2005, 08:46 PM WW2 Japanese medium tank Chi Ha (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/ChiHa.zip) Steve Thompson Feb 27, 2005, 09:43 PM NICE! Too often people forget that the Japs really did have tanks... Drivebymaster Feb 27, 2005, 10:05 PM Please don't call them japs thats like calling a black person a ****** don't use that word please. BTW nice unit Ares de Borg Feb 28, 2005, 04:59 AM Ripp, once again a great unit. Thank you very much. gRUmbL Feb 28, 2005, 09:30 AM Thanks!! Great work as always. I missed this baby for a long time! :goodjob: Vietcong Feb 28, 2005, 03:22 PM jap is simply japanese with out the anese part.. ill call japs japs if i want.. its not a racial term, its a shortning of a word. Snorken Mar 01, 2005, 08:57 AM Great unit ripptide, I've been waiting for this one! :) Ares de Borg Mar 01, 2005, 10:27 AM We desperately need more asian equipment. ;-) shnjavi Mar 01, 2005, 01:33 PM Now these guys can beat anyone... TVA22 Mar 02, 2005, 03:16 PM then put a period after the p. Jap. is okay. Jap takes on a racial connotation. I met plenty of Japanese when I studied abroad in Taiwan this last semester, and they don't like being called 'japs'. Don't believe me? then find one and ask for yourself. One racial slur is just as bad as any other. W.i.n.t.e.r Mar 09, 2005, 10:59 AM jap is simply japanese with out the anese part.. ill call japs japs if i want.. its not a racial term, its a shortning of a word. As long as you don't call Germans "Germs", Antillians "Ants" or South Americans "Sammies"... W.i.n.t.e.r Mar 09, 2005, 11:03 AM Btw. Ripptide- not that I don't love these new units and increasingly better detail you give them, but I must again voice critizism about their scale: This small, early WWII period Chi Ha is the exact same size as your modern (and already oversized) Leo 1C MBT:( is this intended, as in: All tanks to be of the same size?? Drivebymaster Mar 09, 2005, 11:20 AM Ahh who cares at least we have the unit I have no complaints here Anarki Mar 09, 2005, 12:28 PM What's wrong with calling Japs Japs and *****'s *****'s? Drivebymaster Mar 10, 2005, 08:40 PM it's a dirogitory word....but of course it is reffering to a certain time in history...But that was the past and I am pretty sure if you were japanese you wouldn't want to be called a jap now would you....don't be dumb and say yes because that is a lie. Ares de Borg Mar 11, 2005, 05:36 AM As long as you don't call Germans "Germs" Well, "Krauts" isn't that funny either... :crazyeye: PS: I don't even eat Sauerkraut! Ares de Borg Mar 11, 2005, 05:40 AM Back on topic: Ripptide, do you have any more asian equipment in the pipeline? More tanks or maybe some APCs? W.i.n.t.e.r Mar 11, 2005, 06:24 AM Well, "Krauts" isn't that funny either... :crazyeye: PS: I don't even eat Sauerkraut! My Gran's got an amazing recipe - with butter, black pepper and kuemmel- deliciously cooked... :P --- On the other topic, some reference material for those that are still wondering: :) "The following is a list of ethnic slurs that are, or have been, used to refer to members of a given ethnicity (or, in some cases, nationality, region, or religion) in a derogatory or pejorative manner:" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ethnic_slurs Snorken Mar 12, 2005, 01:16 PM Zerg (U.S.) Korean (after the Zerg alien race from the game StarCraft, which is popular in South Korea)That's almost funny... :) Pawel Mar 14, 2005, 10:58 AM I like this unit  and will use it to replace Kinboat's Kha-Go in the Rising Sun scenario. What especially appeals to me is the texture. While all your units are modelled very well, some of them are a little too shiny for my taste. But this one is perfect. To some extent I do agree with Winter's comment on the scale, and perhaps there could be a little more items with specific color - buthese are really very minor things. On a more general note, however, I would like to comment on the sounds. As a general rule I think that if you copy sound files from standard civ units, in this case for instance the attack from the tank and death from mech infantry, instead of just linking to them in the ini file, at least you should leave the original name so that the user doesn't have to look through all possible directories to eliminate redundant files. But overall - a great job! :goodjob: Goldflash Mar 08, 2006, 09:31 AM Not a bump a year old thread, but could someone resize this unit? Its way too large. Storm Grunt Mar 08, 2006, 10:17 AM :agree: I'll second that...and its worth the bump... Goldflash Mar 11, 2006, 05:46 PM Thanks, Storm Grunt! Storm Grunt Mar 11, 2006, 08:01 PM If someone can tell me if its possible to do it in animation shop and a little direction on how, I'll spend the time and give it a shot.. Also,do I need ripptide's permission to do such a thing first? Supa Mar 11, 2006, 08:22 PM I don't think you would need his permission for a resize as long as you give proper credit. For the resizing operation, you should use Steph's SBB. Storm Grunt Mar 11, 2006, 08:51 PM Thanks supa. downloading steph's SBB now..... You just may get your wish Goldflash if I can figure this sbb out without hanging myself from a tree with a usb cable....:suicide: Goldflash Mar 11, 2006, 11:05 PM Sweet! Sweet! I honestly don't know how much smaller to make it, though, to give at a more accuratish size. Well, whatever. Storm Grunt Mar 12, 2006, 07:16 PM :wallbash: OK guys here we go,the first problem I've run into during this re-sizing operation....I down loaded flicster after reading through the sbb manual and converted the chi ha fidget animation to individual pcx frames, then converted those frames to bmp files. Set up the appropriate file structure(N,S,E,W,NE,etc..) and loaded the files into each folder.Opened SBB and selected single unit sbb,hit browse, went to the fidget/E file and selected the first animation file.According to the manual when I do this it should find the other orientation files and they should be highlighted and checked in that box,the problem is it only seems to load the east direction files and the others remain grayed out....If I use the first file for the N orientation the same thing,It only loads that direction.Shouldn't it load all the orientation files at once and make the single storyboard with all the fidget animations????? Screenie of what I've got... Storm Grunt Mar 15, 2006, 05:48 PM Ok here are the files for the re-sized type 97 Chi Ha.For a preview of the new size click Here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=3809828&postcount=1) Note:these are just the flc files. Just replace the current files in the unit folder with these. And remember Ripptide created this great unit I just scaled it down to a more usable size.... And the files: W.i.n.t.e.r Mar 15, 2006, 06:47 PM Merci beaucoup, monsieur :) Goldflash Mar 15, 2006, 08:03 PM Excellent! |
