View Full Version : Creation Chat discussion
DaveShack Feb 28, 2005, 10:39 AM Your input is desired for planning the Creation Day Chat. It will not be possible to satisfy all requests. Heck, it might not be possible to satisfy any requests, but it's better to ask and be unable to comply than it is to not ask at all. ;)
My normal availability times are late night or early morning, GMT-7. This translates to 2200 MST (0500 GMT) and 0600 MST (1300 GMT). If we want to wait until the weekend (not likely) I can maybe do 8am my time on Saturday, which is 1500 GMT. We still need to finalize nation name, leader name and title before the game can be started..
Ginger_Ale Feb 28, 2005, 01:40 PM I would prefer the weekend (5/6 of March) for availability, but, for weekdays, 0500 GMT is waay late (midnight) for the creation chat. 1300 GMT (ie; 8 am EST) is a time when I feel most people will be at work/school. I'm all for waiting for the weekend, but if people want the weekdays, I'm fine for it, just won't be able to attend - not a big deal.
Provolution Feb 28, 2005, 01:55 PM Wait for the weekend. No need to rush.
Xerol Feb 28, 2005, 02:13 PM Yeah, wait for the weekend; even though it still might not be convenient for everyone, people are more likely to be free, and also announcing it early like this gives people time to plan things around if need be.
ravensfire Feb 28, 2005, 02:16 PM Run the creation early, so our first productive session will be on the weekend.

YNCS Feb 28, 2005, 02:46 PM I would not be able to do a morning chat. I'm normally go to work at 0630 EST (1130 GMT). I get home at 1630 EST (2130 GMT) and, other than an hour for supper, would be available until 2300 EST (0400 GMT).
On weekends I would be available at most times from 0730 EST (1230 GMT) to 2400 EST (0500 GMT).
Rik Meleet Feb 28, 2005, 02:52 PM Wait for the weekend please.
YNCS Feb 28, 2005, 02:58 PM Considering that we have lots of Americans and Canadians (GMT -5 to -8), several Australians and New Zealanders (GMT +5 to +7 [I think]), and a bunch of British and miscellaneous Europeans (GMT to GMT +2), the weekend would be easiest for everyone.
truckingpete Feb 28, 2005, 04:19 PM Do you have time for a Friday night. or a Saturday night? Just wondering. I can make the night ones for Fri and Sat usually, not always.... Cant make it during the week though..maybe at evening time but not morning or late night on week days...

Oh! By the way, I'm CST, or GMT -6..ya, i think so
Chieftess Feb 28, 2005, 04:23 PM I would run the creation day chat earlier. No need to wait another 4-5 days.
Ginger_Ale Feb 28, 2005, 04:48 PM You are saying many people can make a, for many ESTers, either 8am or midnight turnchat, then Chieftess? I doubt that.
I still don't see a sticky for our constitution. Starting the game without that is sort of...well, unorganized.
Rik Meleet Feb 28, 2005, 04:53 PM I would run the creation day chat earlier. No need to wait another 4-5 days.I disagree.
It just doesn't look completely finished yet.
Can someone give an update on what still needs to be completed and an estimate on how long it would take ?
We should not start before we are ready.
Provolution Feb 28, 2005, 04:57 PM Indeed
Creation day must be announced in the forums, and it can only be in the weekends.
Donovan Zoi Feb 28, 2005, 05:09 PM IIRC, Creation Day has traditionally taken place on the weekend. Add to this the concerns about our Constitution and we have an extremely valid reason to wait until then. I am glad to see that Rik gets it. :)
Black_Hole Feb 28, 2005, 06:24 PM I disagree.

basically the government positions still need to be defined, and parts of the constitution should go into writing. Plus we are missing a few article like teh Freedom of Information act and stuff like that. Currently we have no elected positions, so technically DaveShack isnt allowed to play the game... However there is also nothing stopping him from doing it, hech he could play the entire game if he wanted.
I suggest we wait until atleast the weekend, we still need to get stuff done first....

I second that motion since right now, I have school (Ill head into semi-retirement into eather the Governorship or the Justice department once Finals and a summer job comes to play), taking karate classes (Just to let you know incase if any of you dont pay attention to my sig ;) ), and a girlfreind.
Seeing that Ginger Ale and I (and not forgetting about CT) are east coasters, we need to be able to attend the creation chat when it is convieniant to us :).
Ulyaoth Mar 01, 2005, 02:37 PM I think weekend would be best, but for weekdays, I think the best time would be about 5-6PM EST. That way, most people would be able to attend.
Bill_in_PDX Mar 01, 2005, 03:01 PM I think it would be better to start the game for one turn to get screenies of the situation being faced. Forum discussion could occur before playing a regular turn set on the weekend.
Otherwise, this will immediately start out of a chat based game, versus a forum game.
Double Stack Mar 01, 2005, 03:44 PM I suggest that to prepare for creation, we should focus on getting our Civilization name polled and things we need prior to start our first turn. Constitution and other items may be done during the Term 1.

Bill, on Creation Day the idea is to only set up the game and view our starting location. So forum-goers will still have the opportunity to participate in planning.
DaveShack Mar 01, 2005, 11:14 PM As much as I would like to be able to schedule a creation chat when a lot of people can attend, this weekend is a killer scheduling wise. My daughter turns 4 and Sunday is dedicated to her party, and she's invited to a friend's party (also 4) on Saturday. I'm on the computer working as soon as I get up in the morning, and don't get home till 7 or after. Letting creation or the 1st chat fall down the CoC doesn't cut it for me.
So, I've decided to schedule creation at a time which is marginal at best (Thursday night at 10pm MST), and then have the 1st real chat on a weekend daytime. I might have just created the game offline, except that those extra eyes on the save were really helpful last time.
Rik Meleet Mar 02, 2005, 02:14 AM What about next weekend ? March 12 - 13 ?
And when in GMT is 10pm MST ?
Ginger_Ale Mar 02, 2005, 05:00 AM Thursday 10pm MST, 12am EST should be good for me, at least for an hour or so, hopefully. No chance of me making it.
edit: Rik, MST is GMT - 7. 2200 MST = 0500 GMT, 0600 Rik Meleet Time on Friday.
MOTH Mar 02, 2005, 07:24 AM Thursday 10pm MST, 8pm EST should be good for me, at least for an hour or so, hopefully.

@GA, Just to clarify, this will be at Midnite EST. At that point you parents should be asleep and you can sneak back out to the computer. ;) Sleep is for the weak!
Ashburnham Mar 02, 2005, 02:29 PM What about next weekend ? March 12 - 13 ?
And when in GMT is 10pm MST ?
Starting the game on the 12th or 13th seems way too late to me. Automatically ignoring 1/3 of our first term doesn't seem like a very good idea. I would prefer having our first chat sometime this week, or this weekend if DS can find the time (which doesn't look too likely).
The sooner the better, in my mind.
Provolution Mar 02, 2005, 02:35 PM I am for this weekend to, extreme procrastination is no good, extreme haste is no good
DaveShack Mar 02, 2005, 05:12 PM Creation is scheduled for Thursday night, first actual play for Saturday morning. See the chat schedule and information thread in the main forum. :)
Xerol Mar 02, 2005, 07:09 PM I will not be able to make either chat; anything after 11:30PM on ANY day is too late, and starting this week I work Saturday Mornings(yay for constantly changing schedules :( Well, at least I get more hours).
Rik Meleet Mar 03, 2005, 01:44 AM DaveShack: The first turn will not start until the game is ready.
Is the game ready to go ?
YNCS Mar 03, 2005, 01:20 PM Just for curiousity, besides DS, anyone living on the Pacific Coast, and maybe one or two Europeans, will anyone be at the creation chat? A chat starting at midnight on a Friday morning is not going to attract many people in the EST zone.
BTW, at 2330 EST, I turn into a pumpkin.
TimBentley Mar 03, 2005, 01:53 PM Just for curiousity, besides DS, anyone living on the Pacific Coast, and maybe one or two Europeans, will anyone be at the creation chat?
11 PM CST isn't too late, so I'll probably be there.
Black_Hole Mar 03, 2005, 02:32 PM I dont think it would be best to play the first chat on saturday... the government isnt done and we will want more than 2 days looking at the intitial save
btw, i wont be able to make it tonight, sorry :(
Double Stack Mar 03, 2005, 03:04 PM I probably make it, the creation chat is 8pm for me but at least I might get in at about 9pm. (PST).
