View Full Version : GA Series Ideas
Ginger_Ale Mar 02, 2005, 04:06 PM After 5 SGs I have decided to open this thread to generate ideas for new ones...here are 3 proposed ideas.
Indian Ivory
We are the Indians, the controllers of Ivory. We must declare war on the holders of Ivory one by one until the are eliminated, once we build our first War Elephant. :ninja:
Proposed level: Demigod
Proposed Settings: Pangea, 60% land

viper275
TimBentley
No Research, Demigod
Simple and to the point. We can't research ourselves. Science slider must be at 0% all game. The key to this will be 2fers and trading.
Proposed civ: someone commercial, and obviously not scientific. Rome (MIL and COM) is my preferred choice England (COM and SEA)
Proposed settings: Continents, 60% Land (suicide curraghs/galleys could help a lot with brokering!) Stealing techs will be important later in the game.

Optimal City Placement Trial, Sumeria, Demigod
Rarely is OCP used, especially on the higher levels. In this game, every city will have to have 21 tiles - NO OVERLAP, NO EXCEPTIONS. Conquered lands must also conform by the end of the turn (razing will most likely be common, as will combat settlers). The initial land grab could be challenging.
Proposed Settings: Pangea, 70% land

dl123654 - skipped?
ThERat
Percy
Bede
Need another player.
The first 2 games to get 5 people will start, with the 3rd game following afterwards.
microbe Mar 02, 2005, 04:11 PM Proposed civ: someone commercial, and obviously not scientific. Rome (MIL and COM) is my preferred choice.
Check (EDIT) Mic1 with the same concept. We did Rome. I think you should try England. :)
dl123654 Mar 02, 2005, 04:20 PM I would join game 3.
Ginger_Ale Mar 02, 2005, 04:53 PM Check Mic5 with the same concept. We did Rome. I think you should try England. :)
You sure that wasn't Mic1? ;) (I'll go and read that now!) England for the suicide curraghs or Iroquois for a nice-timed AA UU would work well.
I would join game 3.
Updated the roster in the first post. :)
microbe Mar 02, 2005, 04:55 PM You sure that wasn't Mic1? ;) (I'll go and read that now!) England for the suicide curraghs or Iroquois for a nice-timed AA UU would work well.
Well it was Mic1. Don't know what I was :smoke: when I was typing..
Admiral Kutzov Mar 02, 2005, 09:54 PM I'm a sucker for no research games, but you shouldn't let me play until the IA... sign me up and shoot me a PM when you're ready to start the East India Co. game. presuming of course that you accept idiots (no offense taken if you don't, we're used to it)
Ginger_Ale Mar 03, 2005, 05:44 AM Are you signing up for the No Research game as well, or was that just a comment?
To all the lurkers: feel free to join one.
ThERat Mar 03, 2005, 05:51 AM since we lost GA5 so badly, I would like to try the OCP game
viper275 Mar 03, 2005, 09:28 AM I'll try Indian Ivory.
Admiral Kutzov Mar 03, 2005, 05:36 PM @ GA - reporting for both, just run them sequentially, not concurrently
As for the civ on No Research, Spain would be a challenge - Rel + Sea IIRC. I'm good with England too.
DON'T LET VIPER PICK THE START! IMPORTANT! ;) :p
ThERat Mar 03, 2005, 05:44 PM DON'T LET VIPER PICK THE START! IMPORTANT!No, let him pick a start and then go for the others. easy elimination process
viper275 Mar 03, 2005, 07:27 PM DON'T LET VIPER PICK THE START! IMPORTANT! ;) :p
Since I've got a reputation here, I think I'm going to choose all of the obviously bad starts. Either that or I'll stay neutral but complain about the starts that other people choose.
I'll be lurking the No Research game, BTW.
TimBentley Mar 03, 2005, 09:21 PM I'll go for Indian ivory.
Percy Mar 08, 2005, 09:21 PM heya =)
i'm looking to join my first SG, but this might be too much for me to handle, so i don't know how much you care about having a "weakest link" =P
anyway, i've been reading a lot of stuff around, including many SGs, and am beginning to get the hang of things... so, if you don't have a problem with having a lower level player along with you guys, that's great, otherwise, i'll lurk the games =)
EDIT: btw, if it is of any use, i'd be more interested in #2 or #3, in that order of preference =)
Bezhukov Mar 08, 2005, 09:29 PM I'd be interested in the no research game if you play with England. They're my fav civ, and they do crank the commerce. For an added challenge, you could try it in RandR.
Admiral Kutzov Mar 09, 2005, 04:43 PM @ GA - know you have three planned already but hear's an idea to discuss (since I can't find my own ideas thread). How 'bout the WWII pacific scenario with the locked alliances turned off on Sid?
Bede Mar 09, 2005, 05:11 PM The OCP game will be a real challenge, sign me in if you can bear the thought, GA.
ThERat Mar 09, 2005, 05:14 PM Ginger Ale, before you start OCP, be aware that dl123654 is on sort of infinte skip IIRC. so, you might need another player first.
Percy Mar 09, 2005, 05:14 PM wow, i see i have been put in the rosters, cheers =)
however, i'll reiterate: please do not hesitate to replace me if you don't want some random newbie to screw your games, it'd be perfectly normal =)
i say that 'cause now with Bede signing up, you have the 5 (EDIT: according to therat, you don't, after all ^^). and when i see my nick and then the other 4, i feel that i WILL screw up =D i simply don't have the ability to analyse things as i've read you guys doing...
Admiral Kutzov Mar 09, 2005, 05:25 PM @ percy, don't bow out now. I learned by playing over my head and as most of the posters in this thread will tell you, there's a whole lot that's over my head. One thing that helps the learning curve is to play shadow turns when others are up.
@ GA - to make things interesting on that OCP game, make it 80% water. Seems like the start is going to be like OCC or 5CC. Not signing up, just posting annoying comments. :)
Percy Mar 09, 2005, 05:28 PM oh no, i'm not bowing out. i'm merely suggesting that i would understand being booted out =P and thanks for the encouragement, but maybe i should play ONLY shadow turns =P
ThERat Mar 09, 2005, 05:33 PM @percy, how long have you been playing C3C or CIVIII? for myself, I played ever since Civ I and was always locked at emperor level until I read up and finally joined SG's. There is a lot to learn here and most important. be bold in your games and it will pay off
Admiral Kutzov Mar 09, 2005, 05:35 PM Hard work may pay off in the long run, but laziness always pays off right awayCalvin & Hobbes?
Nobody's gonna boot you. Bede may rant, just get him sidetracked on gourmet food and his cabinet.
Percy Mar 09, 2005, 05:36 PM approximately one month, but i had played a while before getting Conquests. however, i was NEVER even remotely close to the level of play i've seen on this site =)
i'm currently doing quite ok at monarch, i guess...
edit: i don't know where the quote is from originally, i found it in the webomic "The Order of the Stick" http://www.giantitp.com/cgi-bin/GiantITP/ootscript
great fun if you remotely like gaming =)
Admiral Kutzov Mar 09, 2005, 05:41 PM for myself, I played ever since Civ I and was always locked at emperor level until I read up and finally joined SG's.
I was locked at regent. Then again, I was automating workers and not trading...
ThERat Mar 09, 2005, 05:46 PM I was automating workers and not trading haha sounds good, I used to do that also, but trading for gpt, I never did before I found this page. I used to exploit with peace deals and then redeclare war, never understood why everyone hated me.
actually, i am hoping for Civ4 to come up with some new concepts to really get us in a new learning mode.
dl123654 Mar 09, 2005, 07:51 PM I'll be offline for about 2 weeks, computer blew up last Monday (fan stopped and I melted a few parts  ), going through the warrenty process now.
Still interested though, will be lurking when ever I find a computer to use and will be back when my computer is back.
Ginger_Ale Mar 09, 2005, 08:08 PM I go on vacation from the 13th - 24th, so I'll start one if one is ready when I get back.
