I think that because the president is in an executive office he should be able to manage these boards - ie. sticky and unsticky topics, close unwanted topics, etc, as he thinks would be most helpful to the board.

View Full Version : Idea -- should President moderate Demogame Forums? MSTK Mar 04, 2005, 08:51 AM I think that because the president is in an executive office he should be able to manage these boards - ie. sticky and unsticky topics, close unwanted topics, etc, as he thinks would be most helpful to the board. MOTH Mar 04, 2005, 09:07 AM In theory its a great idea. In Practice though it would be very easy to abuse this power. There is no way in hell I would ever give up this to some random elected citizen if I was Thunderfall. Provolution Mar 04, 2005, 09:18 AM Insane idea, I wonder what would happen to opposition voices. DaveShack Mar 04, 2005, 10:57 AM In this particular case it would work (I have disagreements with people but value their speech too much to abuse power), but I'd be against having it as a general principle. Now if it were possible to give someone sticky / unsticky power without ban/unban this might work. Provolution Mar 04, 2005, 11:37 AM I agreee onthe Sticky and Unsticky part, that would make sense. Ashburnham Mar 04, 2005, 12:27 PM In theory its a great idea. In Practice though it would be very easy to abuse this power. There is no way in hell I would ever give up this to some random elected citizen if I was Thunderfall. I second MOTH. Moderators need to fulfill more criteria than simply being voted in for a term. Rik Meleet Mar 04, 2005, 03:15 PM Don't mixup in-game and out-game things. I am subscribed to the Needed things (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=112538) thread. Just post in there and the moderators will take care of sticky and unsticky things etc. eyrei Mar 04, 2005, 03:21 PM Hehe...not going to happen.:) ainwood Mar 04, 2005, 03:57 PM Fine by me - as long as you guys want to elect me president, then I can sticky some threads for you. :mischief: Strider Mar 04, 2005, 04:12 PM Fine by me - as long as you guys want to elect me president, then I can sticky some threads for you. :mischief: I'd vote for you if you give me a little "bump" on my COTM10 score :mischief:. Chieftess Mar 04, 2005, 04:38 PM Not gonna happen. Padma Mar 04, 2005, 06:29 PM Once more: This is so not going to happen! MOTH Mar 04, 2005, 06:34 PM Wow, mods from all over want to be President of the DemoGame! Next thing you know Thunderfall himself will be visiting this thread! Provolution Mar 04, 2005, 07:11 PM Haha, what a parody. Octavian X Mar 04, 2005, 09:11 PM I really don't see the problem. The President could be set up as a sort of 'mini-mod' with only sticky/unsticky powers - without warning/editting/banning/access to staff minifridge. It's not as though having an extra set of hands to help out around here would hurt. The President usually is an extremely active citzen, and he can use those stick powers to basically highlight important discussions and polls. Besides, the guys we elect to the Presidency are very respectible people here in the DG - I don't think there'd be any sort of trouble with abuse of power. Black_Hole Mar 04, 2005, 09:13 PM why not the Chief Justice? He/she is oriented with justice and such... Now who is the currrent CJ? DaveShack Mar 04, 2005, 09:13 PM I don't think the forum has the capability to give only some mod powers, and we have very clear responses from all of the DG mods and several others. Trust the needed things thread to perform its intended function. If there are real problems, I suggest bringing it up with one or more of the mods by PM. donsig Mar 04, 2005, 11:33 PM Not only should this not happen, we should not let moderators be president. Moss Mar 05, 2005, 12:18 AM Not only should this not happen, we should not let moderators be president. Agreed. By the way eyrei, you need to update your sig. ;) RegentMan Mar 05, 2005, 12:19 AM So I'm confused. Is this idea going to happen? Moss Mar 05, 2005, 12:21 AM So I'm confused. Is this idea going to happen? No, when mods come out of no where to say "This is not going to happen." That means no. Not sure what you're confused about? RegentMan Mar 05, 2005, 12:22 AM I was being my sarcastic self. Perhaps I should have added a " ;) ." ;) Black_Hole Mar 05, 2005, 07:23 AM Agreed. By the way eyrei, you need to update your sig. ;) last game I had to remind eyrei to change his sig from the DG 3 sig.... Rik Meleet Mar 05, 2005, 07:29 AM Not only should this not happen, we should not let moderators be president.I am in favor of this, personally. But I think this is a personal decision by any citizen (and that includes moderators) whether they run for offices or not and if so: what offices. I do see and understand your reasoning behind it though. MSTK Mar 05, 2005, 09:22 AM I don't know why this conversation continues. We all know the answer. eyrei Mar 05, 2005, 10:19 AM Signature fixed. Thanks for the reminders. ;) Provolution Mar 05, 2005, 10:55 AM HAHA Eyrei, you are still inviting for the 3. DG Black_Hole Mar 05, 2005, 11:05 AM HAHA Eyrei, you are still inviting for the 3. DG no, his link is going to DG6 now.... Provolution Mar 05, 2005, 11:11 AM I mean, he couldhave amended the DG3 label. eyrei Mar 05, 2005, 01:44 PM I mean, he couldhave amended the DG3 label. The joke is on you...read it more closely. ;) Sarevok Mar 06, 2005, 02:02 AM Insane idea, I wonder what would happen to opposition voices. exactly..... Donovan Zoi Mar 06, 2005, 03:12 PM This approach worked nicely at 1BC, but then again every Ministry had its own subforum and the minister had format powers over his subforum only. Also, the 1BC group was more committed and respectful to the game itself, and put forth the necessary time to adopt and maintain a workable ruleset. Also, time was not a factor in these games, so intelligent discussion (and role-playing real world dilemmas)was allowed to thrive without worrying about ADD setting in. All in all, the most genuine DG experience I have been a part of. But CFC has a much larger forum, and therefore a different animal entirely. I find it strange that someone found it necessary to invite the UN reps of CFC Modship to stop by, though. There is nothing to feel threatened about, guys. We know how it works here. It was sure nice to see the three of you again, though. It's been awhile. ;) blackheart Mar 06, 2005, 06:53 PM Is this perhaps the only thread where most of the mods have replied in? Moss Mar 07, 2005, 04:03 PM Is this perhaps the only thread where most of the mods have replied in? In this forum maybe, but Site Feedback usually has a few topics with a lot of mod action. Oh, and then there's always the Staff Forum...you know...they have threads upon threads arguing about who's going to keep the fridge restocked with refreshments. ;) |
