Ok i usually play on warlord or regent but i got brave and decided to play on deity. Bad mistake. it took only 30 minutes for the whole map to be filled up and i only had 3 citys. I decided that was fine thought because i had and iron resource and i put science to 0 and started building swordsman like crazy. I thought i had enough to attack on of my neighbors (the iroquoi or however you spell it) with about 7 swordsmen. I guess i didnt have enough...

The AI ganged up on me getting the Aztecs to be their ally. I took one of the iroquoi's citys but quickly lost it and then they started sending in troops and then in an epic battle of around 5 iroquoi swordsmen and 3 aztec archers along with around 2 warriors of each enemy vs. 3 impis and 2 archers and a warrior. it took them two turns to take my city  . I also had no iron left  because they distroyed the road connecting it to my citys. After i lost my city and mostly all of my military, it was easy for them. Shorty after my "empire" crumbled and i suffered an embarassing defeat in 46 minutes.

My point to this story? i have 2. The first one is that im never playing on diety again. and my second one is, how can people play on diety and WIN?!?! let alone SID?!?! i mean ITS SOO HARD!!!

I just started on regent after playing on warlord, and i find it to be a challenge. Skipping any difficulties after regen is probably a pretty poor idea from what I read. In fact a lot of people say that unless you've gotten pretty good at Regent your best to not even move it up to Monarch let alone anything higher...

I did the same thing as you, checking out the COTM game for giggles. Although I had more than three cities, I knew i wouldn't be able to win. The lower difficulties must teach you a lot of essential skills and practices needed later on. Plus warlord and chieftan are easy peasy so it's pretty bad practice to play on those levels ;)

EDIT: I'm pretty sure your topics in the wrong spot also...

Coolio, i think this thread should be in the "general discussion" area...

To address your concerns, it seems that you bite more than you can chew. Jumping from Regent to Deity means facing a completely different situation that you are unprepared to withstand at first. You need to advance step by step, improve yourself, refine your strategy & so on... Take your time, be patient, learn from your mistake and you'll be able to master Deity level. Use a "cowboy-hippie-yayyy" approach and you'll be crushed.
and my second one is, how can people play on diety and WIN?!?!
Deity can be won, even with horrible spots a start. See my thread for an example.

Look at the Successsion game threads. You will find a number of deity wins there to read about (it is a sub-forum of this one).

Succession games are where every player takes 10 turns and cooperatively play vs the Computers. Lots of discussion on strategy and tricks there that can help one play

Or the second game in my signature. Check out the war academy also. There is a lot of useful information there.
