View Full Version : What to do if we get a Military Great Leader

Well, we're not at war yet and are not likely to be at war anytime soon, but it never hurts to be prepared. What do the citizens think about how we should utilize possible Military Great Leaders, in particular the first one.

MGLs can create an army, rush small wonders (Forbidden Palace for example), and rush improvements. We'd pretty much need to be swimmnig in MGLs and have as many armies as our cities can support to make rushing improvements worthwhile.

This brings us to the decision on what task we should assign to the first MGL, if any. The realistic choices are rush FP (if we don't already have one) or make an army.

Having an army is important if we want to follow a warlike path, as there are two small wonders (Heroic Epic and Military Academy) which require a victorious army. These have the effect of increasing the chances of promotions and making more MGLs in combat, and the ability for its city to build an army, respectively.

On the peaceful side of things, having a Forbidden Palace will give us some improvement in overall corruption (but not as much as vanilla / PTW) as well as cutting corruption in the city where it is built down to the minimum possible level.

The top warmongers treat this like a non-issue and make an army pretty much every time, but its not clear yet if we even want to follow a warmonger path.

As the Commander of the Armed Forces, I personaly beleve that the GL should be reserved for rushing minor wonders. (Minor Wonders = Small Wonders)

I agree with the General. Wasting a GL on an army provides no benefits that can't be gained from proper military strategy. Let's save our leaders for Wonders.

The first leader should always be used to create an Army. If we get any more, we can use them for any small wonder that we still don't have. Once we have had a victorious Army we can then build the Small wonder of Heroic Epic, (the story of my journey, just kidding,) that has a culture value of 4 per turn and if it is built early enough, it will double, so that is why getting a victorious army is importsnt first, then we can use any other MGL's for small wonders.

Maybe we could go for the Pentagon or Apollo Mission. ;) That might be possible if we do not war early or the RNG is bad to us.

Only thing you can do now is build an army. MGL discussions are pretty much obsolete in C3C.

No possible way we can decide this yet, I'd have to make my choice on what's happening at the time, and what we need at that time. Not what I need nor want right now.

Armies are very very very overpowered in C3C(single player and multiplayer)...
In single player the AIS will only attack your army if it is like a spearment army and they have a modern armor. Also in multiplayer, I have lost entire wars because of 1 army!!! Armies are great at defending on railroads, they can heal and then attack.

Well, there is the Forbidden Palace if we don't have it yet, after we have enough cities of course. We won't have a MGL for aeons, just having the discussion we're supposed to have. ;)

The first army is more important than the C3C Forbidden Palace. It does reduce corruption, but it doesn't give you a low corruption second core.

There is nothing bad in building it next to your capital.

So I say Army

I don't like the C3C corruption model. :( It takes away some of the challenge in placing an FP.

But back on topic, let's build an Army.

Since we've already identified three neighbors, it would appear that we'll be spending a lot of time making the warmongers happy. An army is almost a necessity if we're going to mong war successfully.

I always build an army first. Unlocking those three small wonders is important.

Even if we go for a peaceful victory, getting an army is important because of Heroic Epic -- 4 cpt for only 200 shields, and increased leader chances in the future. Working in the culture department, I'd push for a THIRD leader to rush Heroic Epic(after the first builds an army and the second hurries the FP). Not only would it be a TREMENDOUS help in pushing for 20k (8cpt after it doubles--not small stuff by any means) but it would strengthen our cultural core meaning less culture flips against us and more in our favor.

i never bulid the horic epic, cause i think changeing the leaders chances from 1/9999999 to 1/88888888 is pointless. but i guess the culture thing is good.

I think it goes from 1/16 to 1/12, actually.

We need an Army anyways.

First priority is the army, unless exceptional circumstances dictate otherwise.

We need an Army anyways.

Armies are somewhat of an unfair advantage, because the AI rarely uses them to full potential, and they won't attack our army. So we could garrison a city with a lone army and the AI won't attack it, or use an Army to cover an invasion force.

I think we should build an army with the first leader.
