View Full Version : The Arab Invasion - Open Sucession Game
Bianezzi Mar 13, 2005, 01:00 PM Lo!
Well I'll start a sucession game but with some different characteristics:
- Nation will be Arabia, and we'll play on an Europe map, so we're starting on modern-day Morocco. This is because I want an "invasion" feeling, by conquering the Iberian peninsula, France, and beyond.
- Governments WILL influence the game! The rules for government types are:
Despotism: Dinasty time 20 turns. No special rules: you are the Supreme Caliph and can do anything you want.
Monarchy: Dinasty time 20 turns. No special rules too, you're still the powerful Caliph.
Feudalism: Dinasty time 20 turns. SPECIAL RULE: If you are going to war, you HAVE to ask permission to the next person in queue for playing after you. That is to simulate the need for the local warlords approval of war. So, you can only declare war if the next allows you to do it. Else, you CAN'T. Of course there's nothing you can do if other nation declares war on you.
Republic: Dinasty time 10 turns. No special rules, as you are a President voted by a Council of Islamic Leaders and you're authorized to do anything.
Democracy: Dinasty time 10 turns in Medieval and Industrial times, 5 turns in Modern times. SPECIAL RULE: If you are going to war, you HAVE to make get the approval in an ellection. This can be made by a forum poll, an e-mail poll or other ways. You need a minimum of 3 votes out of 5 to declare war, else you can't do it.
Communism: Dinasty time 15 turns. You are the Prime-Minister of People's Republic of Arabian States, and you are authorized to anything, so you there's no special rule.
Fascism: Dinasty time 15 turns. SPECIAL RULE: You are the Supreme Emir, and in order to keep your authocratic power you MUST engage a war. You can turn to fascism after declaring a war or before you do it, but you must be in a war at the end of your dinasty, before you send the turn to me.
- Changing the Government: you can make a revolution anytime you want, but you MUST end your dinasty after you declare it. For example, you are playing as a Monarchy and wants to change for Communism. You make a revolution, save the game and send it back to me, no matter how many turns you have left for your dinasty. You are being overthrown! The next player is then going to play the Anarchy period AND his dinasty time. In the example, he's going to play the anarchic period PLUS the 15 turns that Communism allows him to play. The previous player can play again after the other person played.
- Regent Level.
- Try to roleplay. Story-makers will be priorized in the queue for playing. Use arabian names of your king/dinasty name. These can be found here (http://www.20000-names.com/male_arabian_names.htm). Try to be as original as possible.
- I'm going to be the first Caliph. If you want to play, post your interest and mail address in the thread. You then play your dinasty depending on your government system (as explained before) and e-mail next to ME. I'll e-mail to the next player then.
- Failure to obey these rules will result in the 'rebel' having his dinasty cancelled.
My e-mail address is gbianezzi AT uol DOT com DOT br, for turn sending purposes.
Join in for a different sucession game!
Hawklord Mar 13, 2005, 05:19 PM OK count me in it could be a laugh. Of course my dynasty will be the best, or at least if nothing else it will be spelled correctly :)
Bianezzi Mar 13, 2005, 06:41 PM After wandering the lands for years, the mighty Arabs, under the command of Caliph Al'Bikhr (The First One) have settled in a godly place and named it Mecca.
We started scouting the land and discovered we're in the northern part of a huge continent. We also discovered the misteries of bronze working.
Later, we created Medina. Invasion is on its way...
----
On to Hawklord, who will play for 20 turns unless he makes a revolution, and e-mail it back to me.
Let's see if the game works...
Hawklord Mar 13, 2005, 08:09 PM Caliph Bikr's (First Born) reign has been a one of peace and prosperity. Though new inventions have brought good and bad news. Arrable land over the water to the North, but signs of a foreign people in residence. We do not know how they will act when we make contact. Maybe the long period of peace is coming to an end. Our beloved old Caliph has few days left in the world and has confided in me that he will be glad to pass over the reigns to his son. "Perhaps we will need a new leader more versed in the arts of war than me" he said. "It is time I retired to the summer palace, this is a world for younger men than I"
2850BC - (3)
Our wise men have discovered a way of keeping words on clay tablets, they have named this discovery Alphabet. What will happen when all of the words have been captured, shall men be struck dumb?
2630BC (8)
Our wise men have tied some trees together and are off floating along the coast. One wonders why they are seen as wise men sometimes.
They call this craft a Curragh. Could they not have thought of a more Arabic sounding name?
2390BC (14)
New land to the North found. So these new fangled boats have some uses after all.
2350BC (15)
Damascus founded. Our civilisation is flourishing.
2190BC (19)
We are not alone. A light blue border is spotted on the new land mass. No contact with the people yet though.
2150BC (20)
Caliph Bikr retires to the summer palace and dies peacefully in his sleep.
soul_warrior Mar 13, 2005, 11:11 PM i might be interested, even though i am playing an arab empire right now :D
what version is it? C3C1.22?
if so, PM me, and i'll join up.
otherwise i'll just lurk in the shadows, waiting for Charlamagne to step up :king:
jst666 Mar 14, 2005, 04:40 AM Let me join in. This sounds like fun.
Rik Meleet Mar 14, 2005, 06:05 AM They call this craft a Curragh. Could they not have thought of a more Arabic sounding name? Al - Kharragh ?
Bianezzi Mar 14, 2005, 07:08 AM We're playing on C3C version 1.22
Ok, so soul_warrior will be the next Prince-Caliph.
Hawklord, can you send him the save? I'll do it tonight if you can't.
Jussi, you're on the list.
Rik, come on, join the Empire! :)
soul_warrior Mar 14, 2005, 10:02 AM boanna bianezzi, why not just post the saves in the forum?
would be easier for all involved, and might let lurkers examine our many mixtakes (X marks the spot)
Hawklord Mar 14, 2005, 10:26 AM The save is here:
Bianezzi Mar 14, 2005, 02:53 PM Well as long as the save is returned to me after you play it, it's ok.
Really, it's my first SG and I want to make sure everything is doing fine, all the rules are being obbey'd, etc.
Plus I'm making a Dinasty History so we can see at the end of the game which dinasty was the most remarking, etc.
EDIT: AND I'm managing the queue so it'll have to come back to me anyway.
soul_warrior Mar 14, 2005, 04:13 PM got the save and will play and write it up tomorow
soul_warrior Mar 15, 2005, 03:25 PM it is very early in the morning for prince Abu to think. too early. last night he and his friend prince Far-i, a prince from a lesser city - Medina, went out hunting in the hills. little did they know how much that morning would change thier life. they began but running west for a few miles, thinking, like all growing lads, that nothing nature could throw at them could destroy them. and they are right ofcource, for they are ARABS!!.
after a few days of enjoying them selves, visiting Far-I's father, and enjoying themselves, they stumbled upon a wonder.
on the hills not that far from medina lay a small plateau, with strange vines growing red fruit. they tasted it, and saw it was good. they started running back home so they could share thier new find with the other nobles, for this is surely a gift from Allah, to be enjoyed by the sheiks and princes. (we find wines on our land shelf)
upon arriving back home the two princes hear that no news have yet arrived from thier friend Mahmud. Mahmud was (or it was hoped, still is) a dashing young prince, with a love for the sea, for the arabs were a sea going people. he was the captain of the first AL KARAGHH, a vessel that was designed to traverse the waves and being back wealth of food from the mighty sea. Abu, acting like the loyal friend he was, atonce demanded his father let him mount a rescue operation, and another AL KARAGHH was built in Mecca, blessed by the high priest (2150 bc).
the journey began as soon as it was complete. and the two brave princes set sail, and based on sightings of Mahmud, went west.
meanwhile in medina there was much unrest. the people wanted more out of life than hard labour. some even talked openly about going "out west" where there are treasures beyond belief. and thus, in 2070 the city of medina has grown beyond its own capacity and a few breave souls went west in search of adventuire (settler heads west), Far-I's father, having also heard of the riches of the west thought to himself " what can i gain from those wonderful vines? how can i use them to benefit me and my own?" and he came up with the answer - i would build a huge building, where i could store all of the vines, and sell them to the poor of the towmn. that way he would get richer, and the poor will not want to leave the city so often.
hearning about the initiative of Far-I, Bakir thought "i cant be out done by one of my own skeiks, now can i? i will built an even bigger building!! but what should i build? our lands, on must be honest with one self, are pitifully small. a project like Ibrahim's would be wasteful. and another grand boat was too complex to build right now. waht i want is somrething for the entire world to envy me for, to remember me for" and reasoning that one is only remebered by his sons, and Mahmud still being at sea, he decided to build a huge statue of Mahmud right on the shore, near that little bay where his left, and light a permanent fire through his eyes, thus he could find his way back home (for he couldnt admit it but he missed his son dearly) 2030 srat colosus
afew years pass and a small sail is spotted for the top of the building in mecca, where Kabir has placed a permanent scout to see when his son woulfd return. Kabir, running 3 stairs at a time to the dock, saw a tiny, ragged canue, with but a single person inside. dreading what he would find out, he slowed down, but after afew moment realised it was Abu, his other son, that has returned. filled with joy, he ran to greet his son. and what a son Abu has become. tall, powerful, a true man. after some hurried greetings, Abu told his father the wonderful news.
"i have met Mahmud, about a year ago, far to the east, he is well and loved by his crew, for he brings them riches and glory. you need not fear for him for the lands are many and bountyful."
the Abu whispers to him, "and we are not the only civilized peple out there, father. we have met a strange people, far to the north. the call themselves ROMANS and the know many great secrets. the have mastered the wheel and have men that can throw tiny sticks far away, killing game. they are truly great hunters"
"what, what EXACTLY did you see, my son?" for Kabir was not as innocent as some would believe. Kabir the drew a magnificent bow out of a locked closet. " was it something like this?"
"yes, father, it is. why are you so afraid of it, no man would harm another.... right, father?". right, thought Kabir, right.....
"but father, i almost forgot to tell you another thing. i have met my true love on my voyage!"
"tell me all about it, son. is she from Medina? a secret girl you were meeting?"
"no, she is called Isabella. she lives on the other side of the sea, and is a queen, yes father, a female rules her people, and a wonderful ruler she is."
but son, you cannot marry a woman out of the faithful. you just cant. i FORBID IT." (1910 light blue borders > spain.)
after a long period of screaming and shouting, Abu realised the truth of his fathers wishes, but did not marry a noble girl, but instead devoted himself to study. in fact he decided that he will share his wealth of knowledge with ALL people, and so he set out to study the first thing - how to keep a record of events for all time. in due course Abu would be remembered as the Graet Scholar, the one to start the official history of arabia.
(1870 writing is in) as his second project, ABu chooses to study the sea, winds and way to make sea travel safer, so no one else would face his brothers fate, for it has been many years ago that Mahmut has left with no news. (start Map Making @ max).
meanwhile the pioneers that left Medina have reached thier goal, a beutiful hill near the coveted vines, and they decide to call their city BAGDAD (1790)
in 1725 a small ship appears around the corner of the bay, a ship with red sails. on it is prince Augustus. Kabir greets him, and asks for his visits purpose.
"i have come as an emmisary of peace from the great Roman empire. we seek to establish some trade routes for the benefit of both our peoples. especially i have got news for you. your son, Mahmut, is alive and well. and has sent ou a gift, too. producing a bag full of gold nuggets" "Praise ALLAH," says Kabir "Allah is great".
(trade rome CB for WC+35g)
many years have passed, but Abu, ever faithful to his first love, dares another journey into the sea, not to marry her, for he is now a married man, with sons and grandsons, but to see her. during his voyage a great storm throws his ship far to the west, where they meet another people. the people of the door the call themselves PORTA is door in thier tounge
(1575 meet portugal) he struggles to fix his ship with the friendly portugese, and decides to abandon his dream of reuniting with Isabella, to bring the news back home of this wonderful people. on the day prior to his departure, a messanger comes into town, telling of a great wonder built by a strange people with golden hair, called Germans, a temple to rival all temple combined, a place where the gods wonder among men giving advice freely. that wonder
the germans have called THE ORACLE (1525bc)
it is now the dusk of Abu's life. he has led, even with all the disapointmaents, a truly blessed life. he has mastered the art of writing, and has even managed to learn all there was to learn of building ship. no one need ever die again from the cruel sea, that has deprived him of his brother. the people are now truly a naval one.
his final legacy is one of wisdom. he has had many dreams of revenge against his father. but none more powerful than that of the people ruling themselves, where even women could vote. that was Isabella's true gift to him. his great new project, that he knew would not be finished during his lifetime was the study of the secrets of PHILOSOPHY. he hoped that the great porject his father, may he live forever, as he seems more than likely to do, would be finished when the secret philosophy and the people's REPUBLIC would be already known. (colosus in 23. can got PHI in 6, CoL for free, the rush form REPUBLIC. or better, trade-gift for CoL)
----------
the situation is DIRE.
we need to get off this slab of an island NOW.
we have a settler ready, but my prebuild backfired and we now have a granary in medina. a galley will be ready in 6 turns. cant rush it now, but run for these offshore one.
go for the silks first, then the settler factory spot.
we seem to lag just 2-3 techs, so dont sweat it, we can trade philo for all of them later.
soul_warrior Mar 15, 2005, 03:27 PM and here is the save
Hawklord Mar 15, 2005, 06:10 PM What about the moving the city 1 NW (as in yellow dot) to avoid wasting wheat. Otherwise yes lets get out of here.
Bianezzi Mar 16, 2005, 01:25 PM Nice game, soul_warrior.
The two spots for colonization are good. The first one (more to the west) is probably better because of its silks. The second has a cow (and is historically accurate for Cordova!). I say: let's get the hell outta here!
Sure this is a dinasty game so every governor has autonomy to do whatever he pleases. "Oh but we must win!". No, we must have fun. If the guy wants to go for Monarchy instead of Republic, then let he do it...
Next is jst666. He's going to play for 20 turns, UNLESS he makes a revolution.
Ps.: Theorically, we can't talk about "Allah" until after the discovery of Monotheism; we can't even talk about gods before Polytheism, only "forces of nature", but what the hell...
soul_warrior Mar 16, 2005, 04:19 PM biannezzi - hell was invented after christ, well ok, the jews have a version too, but not as nasty.
adn as an almost pro historian, i can tell you we have our own illusions. meaning, we se dead people!!!!
Darwin420 Mar 17, 2005, 02:17 PM Room for one more? I've never done a SG before, but I'm a good story teller!
The Darwish Family (a musical troupe of 8 brothers) is making a plea to create a dynasty!
Bianezzi Mar 18, 2005, 08:54 AM Sure Darwin, you're in.
If until tomorrow jst666 hasn't showed up, grab the save and play it for 20 turns, then e-mail back to me.
Oh, and rush those settlers! We need to colonize the land at once!
(I think we are going to need to wage war against Portugal or Spain...)
jst666 Mar 18, 2005, 08:56 AM I'll play the turn this evening, within 10 hours, that is.
jussi
Bianezzi Mar 18, 2005, 08:59 AM Good thing you showed up, Jussi.
Then Darwin goes after you.
jst666 Mar 18, 2005, 09:01 AM It's just weekdays, I hardly have much time in the evenings. I usually manage to spend hour or three during weekdays for civ, but weekends are a bit different thing... thou I should work during weekend as well...
Darwin420 Mar 18, 2005, 09:29 AM I might have missed it in the beginnings of this post - is it 24hr to grab, 48 to post? Time's not going to be a problem, I just want to make sure I'm following the set rules.
And, by the way, Al-Adib Bashir Al-Darwish (the eldest of the Family) offers his thanks for this opportunity to create a dynasty! We shall not let you down!!
soul_warrior Mar 18, 2005, 09:47 AM lets try for war against Henry.
he has shifty eyes, and Abu WAS in love with Isabella.
and he is closer to the silks...
Darwin420 Mar 18, 2005, 10:44 AM We need a solid presence in Iberia so we can have a safe haven to heal our troops, before we start a war. Ferrying troops is a pain!
EDIT: Why don't we place a city 1S of the western wheat, then we can setup a galley or two in the strait, and then be able to very quickly ferry troops from our isolate spot and onto the mainland. It would be a very handy bridgehead, even if not the best city in the world...
Bianezzi Mar 18, 2005, 02:03 PM Hey this is becoming a Council of Elders!
Mates you should try to grab more people into this. The more dinasties, the more diversificated becomes the game.
Hawklord Mar 18, 2005, 08:38 PM Ha, I, and many other Caliphs, would like another chance to shine. Like yourself we have been operating in a limited scope environment. Gimme some troops and I'll conquer the world.
Hey it's your game, how many people can it stand? :)
It would be interesting to see how a game where every round was played by a different player turned out, don't you think? I'm not sure about who the best leader would be given the different starting situations, I wouldn't like to make that choice.
jst666 Mar 19, 2005, 01:33 AM To whom I should post the game?
Ok, I'll just put it here...
jst666 Mar 19, 2005, 01:37 AM Abu's nephew Jusuf Shaay Barid (Jusuf Ice Tea), was the next of kin to claim the thrown. His first action was to trash the statue of Mahmud in a big festivities, making a grand appearance and trying to wipe old regime out from peoples minds. But the people of Mecca were feasting with overflowing food resources, the people of Medina were to meet the not-so-gently hand of Jusuf. The people were punished for minor crimes with long periods of hard labor, and people were conscripted to forced hard labor without even commiting a crime. The unfortunate were to work on docks building huge boats, much larger than the Al Karaghh. These ships would be able to carry arabs across to the continet somewhere far north. The economy was also lacking. This way the Jusuf's regime would be bankcrupt way before it's time.
Right when the docs of Medina completed couple of large boats, galleys, or Al Galon (a gallon) as they were called due to their large transport capacity, merchants from over seas were talking about the mighty statue they have seen in a far away town called Lisbon (Lisbon builds Colossus). In Medina warriors and regular people were freighted to the newly built ships. Al Karaghh in the far east saw running warriors in the shore, who were speaking strange incomprehensible language. Some wise guys abroad mentioned, after hearing their language, "That's greek to me." However some of the geeks, or "greeks", could speak civilized language, so we ended up to some conversation. The Al Galons arrived to south coast of Iberian peninsula, and landed there near fertile soil to settle down. Unfortunately there was already some portugues looking for new land, but north of our landing points there was also silks.
The people in the iberian-range saw that the land there was good, and decided to settle down. They decided to call their new city "Najran". After hearing new from Najran, the people of Mecca became restless, and decided to reach some new territories on their own (built settler in Mecca, Spearmen in Damascus). Jusuf has lately getting a bit manic of getting iron-mines for the arabs, but the only free iron seems to be far far away in the east, beyond the roman region.
Al Karaghh exploring the west saw some settlements, and went there to have a conversation. Thou the people were quite polite, they offered frogs for dinner. Most disgusting! The settlement was called city of Rheims, and people who lived there called themselves "friends". Arab diplomats were busy. They managed to sell the skill of making pot to geeks, and received knowledge about some strange round rolling thing and 20 bags of gold. Sold the arab philosophy and 15 gold for potuguese for mathematics and horseback riding. The people who left Mecca took off towards Iberia, with some spearmen for protection. Unfortunately, the southern Iberia was already habited by the portuguese.
The eastern iron sources were also habited by the geeks, as a Al Karaggh suddenly stumbled across geek-towns. The Iberian settlers were a bit undecided, but decided to gambit: settle to forests where there is silks. This manner in distant future we could have a lot of silk, some extra to trade as well. Our Karaghss discovered new setllements, Sparta and Marseilles. The ever expanding arabs were ready to settle more lands, as people were willing to leave Mecca. Iberian settlers found Kufah.
From north our expedition met people who spoke very strange language and were governed by a woman. The city were our expedition landed, would have great festivities, but fortunate for us they did not serve any pork, because the city was called nothing-ham. Those people, the english, could build some beautiful buildings, but could not even write simple books. Sold horseback riding to geeks for 40 gold. Up north, beyond the land of the english, some strange fishing boats were seen. Further investigation was to follow...
The strange people called themselves the Celts. They had a strange theory about multiple gods. We taught them how to write stories about those gods down, and took the scripts with us. Traded writing for polytheism and 28 gold. The aging Jusuf, during his last years, was researching the ways these many gods do influence our life, and death. Especially death, for his days were running short. Despite his harsh habits on his own people, he did expand the arab territory somewhat. And kept some gold in the coffers.

jst666 Mar 19, 2005, 01:40 AM Were still a bit in trouble. The islands west of Rome would be great places to settle. My suggestion is to finnish Statue of Zeus ASAP. If we manage to do that, popping an ancient cav every five turns might enable us to wage war against the portuguese, if that should be the way to advance. The ancient cav can be very useful, due to it's extra hitpoint, especially on not so large -map and when there is no double production.
jst666 Mar 19, 2005, 01:46 AM It would be interesting to see how a game where every round was played by a different player turned out, don't you think? I'm not sure about who the best leader would be given the different starting situations, I wouldn't like to make that choice.
That couldn't work. One turn the troops would move to one direction, the second to the other one.
One type of game I'd be kind of fascinated about, unfortunately that is (almost) impossible with the current game engine: there would be different commanders for different types of units, or units from different areas. For example in current game troops that are built in north africe (the starting area) would, be controlled by one player, Arabian commander. The units built in Ibearia would belong to Iberian commander. This would happen in wars also; one should be able to co-ordinate many troops under different command. Moreover, there would be a specific navy-commander. The demo-game is somwhere near this, thou, but I'd like this to work on a bit smaller scale.
Darwin420 Mar 19, 2005, 06:21 AM This is a got it!
Darwin420 Mar 19, 2005, 07:58 AM Here are my First 10 Turns. I need to take a break for an hour or so, but I thought you all might want to read this!
-----
The Journal of Al-Adib Bashir Al-Darwish, First Caliph of the Al-Darwish Dynasty:
--------------
It is with a glad heart that I begin these accounts, for long has my family desired to influence the mighty Empire. A long path taken by my great-great-grandfathers has finally come to fruition, and through the wealth of my Family and the keen sense of my brothers, I, Al-Adib Bashir Al-Darwish, have come to power! The cruel actions taken upon my beloved Empire by the tyrant Jusuf Shaay Barid shall be overcome, and upon the foundation lain by those before us, I shall bring the Empire to further glory!
(01) 975 BC
I have come to Mecca to find things mostly to my pleasing. The economy is weak, right now, but my advisors assure me this is but a temporary measure, until the Scholars complete what is said to be their greatest work ever: a government they would call "Republic." I am skeptical about such an idea - leave the control of the Mighty Arabian Empire in the hands of a committee?? It is laughable, but I am not a man to waste the resources of the Empire, and so I will let the Scholars continue their foolish pursuit.
Settlers have landed on an Island east of the Roman Peninsula. I am told they wish to build a new city there, to further spread the glory of the Empire. As long as they pay their taxes, I see it as a bonus to our people. More settlers are being gathered to continue colonizing the Known World.
---
(02) 950 BC
News has come from the North-West that the city of Basra has been founded on Basra Island. Glory be to the Empire. The citizens of our newest holding have begun immediate construction of a Temple to honor the Gods for the bounty they have found.
In all other avenues, it has been a quiet year.
---
(3) 925 BC
It has been another quiet period. Our Al Galon around Basra Island is returning home, to pick up more settlers who wish to spread the knowledge of the Arabian Empire to the entire world!
---
(4) 900 BC
I have received word our forces have defeated an Alemanni Raiding Galley off the coast of Basra Island. It is a great victory for us!
---
(5) 875 BC
It has been an interesting period for the Empire. Baghdad has completed its Temple to appease the Gods, and have begun construction of barracks, to better train soldiers for our glorious Empire. Several workers are continuing the construction of mines around Baghdad and Damascus, to provide more raw materials for the great projects these cities of undertaken. A unit of Spearmen has been redeployed from Medina to Baghdad, as I do not feel comfortable with that city undefended.
A new Al Galon has been completed at the construction docks of the Great City of Mecca! Settlers and warriors of the Empire have left Mecca for the New Islands. It is wonderful that so many of my people wish to expand the Empire! I am told that another Spear unit and group of Settlers are preparing for a journey to the New Islands.
I have ordered one of our Scholars to share the Arab Philosophies with the unenlightened Greeks. Alexander was much pleased with this knowledge, and gave to us 29 pieces of pure gold for our Treasury.
It has come to my attention that construction of the Statue of Zeus is proceeding much more quickly than expected. There is even talk that it might be completed during my reign! Oh, what a sight to see before I quit this world!
IBT
I write this addendum to my journal in haste. Not but an hour ago, the doors to my audience chamber were thrown open by an envoy of Romans. They are an arrogant people, who are PROUD of the fact their first Emperor was raised by a DOG!!
The Roman Emmisary, Marcus Augustus Victorius, demanded we share with them the secrets of the Arab Philosophy. Somehow they had found out we had taught our secrets to the Greeks, and thought they should gain such knowledge without recompense for us!
I am not a man to take threats lightly. I ordered the Royal Guard to seize the arrogant Emissary and his envoy, and had them all beheaded where they stood. The fastest ship of the Empire returned the heads to Caesar, who did not take it well. He did not take it well at all.
Aparrently, Marcus Augustus Victorius was the Emperor's nephew; his favorite nephew. Caeser promptly declared war on us!!!!
---
(6) 850 BC
I have cut some funding to the Scholars, who cry and whine about not having enough money to do proper research. They will have to live with my decision, as the Empire is now at war with a distant foe, and must prepare for the eventuality of combat - either on our soil, or theirs. The Empire must have a positive flow of dinars in order to maintain such an army!
It had been said by my predecessors that Portugal or Spain would be the first conquest for us, but it appears the Roman dogs shall taste Damascan bronze first!!
We have also established an Embassy in the far-off country of Greece, in hopes of enticing them to declare war upon the Romans with us, but the Greeks cannot be convince of a Military Alliance. Pity.

Nothing worth noting occured. The Empire seems as if it is holding its breath in anticipation of the first moves of this war.

Our western Al Kurragh has spotted signs of a new civilization beyond Greece. Although contact has yet to be made, messengers assure me they will do so at the first opportunity.

(9) 775 BC
Our Al Galon approaches Basra Island. Although the placement of the new city will not be optimal, I believe Basra Island can (and will) serve as an important staging area for my planned invasion of the Roman Peninsula.
More Al Galons are needed, and more troops, as well. I shall mandate the City Governors to build me an army that will conquer the world!!!

(10) 750 BC
The Romans have landed an Archer on Basra Island. I have delayed the construction of a new city until I know the outcome of this battle. I have reinforced Basra with an additional warrior, and have instructed the locals to ready more defense. It is not my fear that we shall lose Basra to a single Roman Archer, however, as Basra was wisely built upon a hill. Yes, the city shall hold until more reinforcements arrive.

The Romans attacked Basra with Archers. Our valiant garrison of Spears rebuffed the attack. The heads of the Roman dogs, so I am told, were placed on poles outside of Basra as a warning to Caesar's armies. Soldiers are already starting to complete their training and will be shipped to the front line shortly.

Khurasan is founded on a small, hilly rock of an island near Basra. It is not the most ideal location for a city, but no enemy shall ever be able to land troops there. The city covers the entire island!

Nothing of note occurs.

(14) 670 BC
Mecca completes another Al Galon, and Medina completes training Archers. An Al Galon from the New Islands is returning to the Empire to pick up troops to help reinforce Basra Island. Another settler group is on its way to claim more land for the Empire.
There has been no more word from our Al Khurragh in the east regarding the mysterious civilization. Hopefully contact will be made soon. I would like to know what treasures lie to the east of our lands.

Travelers report the French have begun building a War Academy to honor some general named Sun Tzu, and the Portugese have begun hoarding scrolls and tablets in what they claim will some day be a Great Library! Ha! They'll be lucky if it doesn't burn to the ground one day! All that paper laying around.
Word has come back from the eastern fleet that contact was made with an empire calling themselves "Ottomans" ... a strange name, but they were willing to trade with us. The puny Ottomans are unenlightened, and their Scholars are but a joke.
The governor of Kufah, I have learned, brought his people to the whip in order to complete a Temple more quickly. I have heard reports of the corruption in the city of Kufah. Perhaps it is time for me to journey to our holdings in Iberia.

(16) 630 BC
The Scholars tell me of a new form of Government, called Republic, where the people elect their rulers. I have never heard such absurdity in my life! I will not give up control of the Empire, when I have worked so long and so hard for it. Perhaps my successor will think differently, but not I. The Scholars are now pursuing an idea of regulating our economy with something they call Currency. We have tried to learn the secrets from other Empires, but no one will share such knowledge with us. It will be up to our own Scholars to figure it out. I may not live to see the day the Empire is joined with a common currency, but it is a legacy that I am sure will allow history to remember me!
Success at last! I have been successfully in convincing Emperor Alexander to join us in waging war against the Roman dogs. Perhaps now we will not have as much to worry about. Our army is expanding, and soon will be ready to converge on the Roman Peninsula.

A Roman Galley sinks to the bottom of the sea after an intense naval battle with one of our Al Galons!! I am told Captain Hassan has gained valuable experience from the combat. I will reward him with a virgin upon his return!

We have traded the secrets of the Republic to the Spanish in exchange for advanced Construction techniques.

All is quiet throughout the Empire.

I fear this is the last journal entry I shall write. Over the last few months I have felt myself growing weaker, and I know the sun shall soon set upon me reign. It has made me look back upon what I have accomplished for the Empire I love so much. Our knowledge has advanced, and the Scholars tell me we shall soon see a whole new Age come upon us! Our Empire has expanded into the New Islands, and our culture is spreading across Iberia, outshining the Spanish and Portugese!
The darkness upon my reign is the war with Rome, but we have lost nothing in the face of it, and indeed, have gained a new resolve. Our military has always been weak, but that is changing. Soon, the world will tremble at the feet of the mighty Empire!
It is time for me to step down from the throne, for I am too weak to continue. But know this! My family shall continue, and one day we shall return to power over the Empire. One day... one ... day...

Who's up next?
Bianezzi Mar 19, 2005, 07:53 PM I'll be next, and then we'll see who plays.
Admiral Kutzov Mar 19, 2005, 10:37 PM I reallly shouldn't drink and surf. Put me in line. SW will provide the necessary warnings and disclaimers.
Bianezzi Mar 20, 2005, 12:09 AM Al Bikr's descendant was a peaceful old man reaching his 70s by the time he got the throne from his cousin Al-Darwish. Fareid Al-Bikr had little knowledge of the far lands and even less battle experience. People loved him for a wise Caliph he was, but his generals had grown weary of his kindness and diplomatic behavior towards his neighbours, specially the hated Romans.
His main general was Emir Crodae. Crodae was not 100% arab: he was born in the Basra Islands and had a Roman father. His experience as a Galon captain earned him the respect of the other Emirs and the special attention of the Caliph. When the Romans started to threat the islands Al-Bikr wrote a letter to Crodae: "Go, my friend, and repel the Roman armies from our sacred islands. This war must finish at once, with honor and respect".
This was enough for Crodae's thirst of power, as he became Grand-Emir of the Eastern Arab Empire and General of the Arab Army in the East and of the Arab Navy. Repelling the Romans wasn't enough for him: he wanted blood. He then prepared an army with the best archers in the world and decided to take the war to Roman territory. Crodae landed his troops near Lugdunum in 450BC. His letter to the local governor was short: "We bring doom with our arrows. Surrender to us, or die burnt in your own temples". As surrender wasn't met, the very next day saw the total destruction of Lugdunum. Crodae ordered his troops to burn the city; they didn't spare a child from the killing fire. But that wasn't enough.
In the Iberian-Arab frontier, the Portuguese heard of the Lugdunum massacre. Fearing for his life, Henry the VII received a Roman delegation to discuss help from the Portuguese. In the next day a treaty was signed, and the Portuguese joined the war against the murderous Arabs. Reacting to this treachery, the Spanish joined the Arabs against the imperialistic Portuguese. War was spreading all over the land.
Emir Crodae headed east with his army. The target: the Portuguese settlement of Sagres, in southern Italy. The battle of Sagres was Crodae's main triumph, as his armies were completely victorious against the Portuguese. This time ambitious Crodae decided not to burn the city. Instead, he ordered his soldiers to erect a Palace to him and crowned himself Supreme Caliph of the Eastern Arab Empire.
Words of Crodae's rebellion reached Mecca. Al-Bikr was busy fighting off the Portuguese though, and didn't want to attack one of his own commanders in the middle of a great war. The Statue of Zeus was finished in Damascus. Thousands of Arab warriors moved to Iberia to repel the Portuguese. After much fighting, Henry decided to capitulate and gave the city of Lagos in order to sign peace. Against the Emirs will, the Caliph gladly accepted Henry's agreement and peace was celebrated in Iberia.
The Romans also wanted peace, but they wouldn't have peace with the warlord Crodae within his borders. The Caliph himself went to Crodae's "capital", Al-Crodatiae, to talk to him.
"My dear friend, let's stop this. You are not a Caliph, nor the Romans are our enemies. Let's celebrate peace all over the land."
As Fareid said this, a group of soldiers loyal to Crodae surrounded him armed with spears. The Emir had ordered the imediate execution of the Supreme Caliph, and Fareid Al-Bikr was hang in Al-Crodatiae a month later.
Revolution went across the Empire. The Emirs of Iberian-Arabia were for a change in the government and said they would fight for a Council of Emirs that would work as a Republic. The Caliph was weak, they said (influenced byt the Roman ideas), and only a Council of Elders could work as a good government. They didn't agree with Crodae but they wanted a change. On the other side, there was the Prince-Caliph son of Fareid Al-Bikr, who wanted a strong government under the powerful hands of an Absolute Caliph, himself.
Crodae died the next year, and Al-Crodatiae was immediately declared province of the Empire, along with the village of Fustat. But the revolution was only beggining....

Ok Admiral, on to you. You're going to play the Anarchy age PLUS 20 turns in case you choose Al-Bikr's Monarchy, or 10 turns in case you choose the Emirate Republic. It's up to you.

soul_warrior Mar 20, 2005, 11:29 AM goody  we get Igor's better part in the fun :bounce:
there was a knock on the door of Abu Nidal's home, during the night. the ritired admiral of the great Arab Navy grumbled and went to the door. at the door stood 3 men, all of the wearing black, with a red eagle emblazoned on it.
"what do you want this late at night?" demanded Abu Nidal.
"we can to make you an offer you cant refuse" replied the shortest man. "i am called Brutus, and i represent the Guild."
"step inside, since my sleep is gone. but this had better be good. i AM the admiral still you know, with considerable power. Ohh, and dont think of using those knives you have. my bodyguards are but a hair trigger away from your doom."
after entering the house, the 3 men appear to be of ROman descent.
"well, i'll make this brief, for all of our sakes" said Brutus, gulping. "we are a group dedicated to the simple chore of making us, and the people we cherich, rich beyond belief. we offer you a chance to become a member of this FAMILY"
"ok, im listening..."
"the rewards for you would be enormous, and you will only need to help us every once in a while. we will call upon you."
"we want you, as you appear the most likely to grab power in Arabia after the disturbances cease, to lean toward a consolidated goverment. in that goverment, we will place many who are loyal to our goal. and let me remind you that our goal is not treason against your motherland, but a secret unification of ideas and needs."
"once this so called REPUBLIC is set in place, it will be ripe for our, and your, picking. the people, believing they pay taxes for building new a better roads and whatnot, will in reality, be paying you your salary, with a nice amount set aside for your old age."
"please consider this generous offer favourably, we will not bother you anymore tonight, but will watch what choice you make"
"just remember that our great organization is truly global, and you can either be with us, or against us."
with that the Romans stood and left Abu Nidal's home. for a very long time he stood there, thinking of the pros and cons of thier offer, when a starnge thought occured to him - global? as in a globe? it was one of his weird concepts, that of a round world. his naval experience has led him to this, but the scientific mode was adamant - the world IS FLAT!!!. could theromans be right? could they be so knowledgeable?
Darwin420 Mar 20, 2005, 12:11 PM What's the current roster? Or is it more informal than that? Just curious.
Admiral Kutzov Mar 20, 2005, 03:51 PM Actually, it was 3 sicilians...
The streets of Mecca run with blood. Thieves and whores control the city.
The Eldars of Medina, Mecca and Damascus meet in secret to determine the will of the deities. The heredity monarchy has failed. The Usurper is no true believer. They decide on a plan to ease the suffering of the people.
Riders go forth to summon the Eldars to a grand council to decide the fate of the people. Many fortnights later, after dodging the agents of the Usurper, the Grand Council of Eldars convenes in Damascus. Ibn al Hassan, hero of the Roman War, local landowner and Commander of the Damascus Militia is elected first president of the Arabian Iberian Republic.
Forces loyal to Hassan secure the Usurper and put him to death. President Hassan's election is confirmed.
Hassan vows a return prosperity to the people and begins massive infrastructure projects, not only paying wages, but growing the floundering economy.
Hassan, a much revered former general, has witnessed battlefield carnage firsthand. While no stranger to blood, he will not initiate it at a whim. Despite her assistance against Henry the Evil, the infidel queen's lands remain a growing obstacle to the expansion of the people. The uneasy peace continues. The glorious cavalry gather on the borders of Henry's lands should the evil one become rash. Local farmers continue to report raiders stealing livestock and slipping accross the borders at night.
The Treaty of Kufah is reviewed. Clearly our nation is within its rights to strike Henry if he is violation of the protocols when the treaty expires. Agents in our employ report that Henry's mitilary is but a whisp of his imagination, little match for our forces. We will endure his insults and preserve our honor, striking only when the requirements of the treaty have been fufilled. In the process, we shall secure the vaunted iron to increase our might and strike fear in the hearts of our enemies.
In the meantime, harbors and markets are built to ensure ongoing prosperity for the people.
A new luxury, silk, is soon to be in general distribution.
Diplomatically, the Usurper has poisoned the world against us. Many nations have new ideas of Fuedalism, Engineering and Monothiesm that they will not share for any price.
In the north, men don suits of metal and pledge alliance to one god. An interesting concept that our scholars must soon examine. Perhaps are we are able to bridge our rivers.
William of the Dutch, begins construction of his Knights Templar. He assures us that this is a peaceful project. We will see if his actions are equal to his words. Likewise the other infidel queen, Victoria, begins construction of another "peaceful" wonder, an institute to study the "art" of war.
Our economy continues to grow. Soon we should be welcomed back into the merchant community and able to secure new things.
The year is 70AD. The president stands for re-election. The Eldars will judge how sound his rule has been.

soul_warrior Mar 20, 2005, 03:56 PM you did great, admiral.
Hawklord Mar 20, 2005, 07:17 PM There are many grumblings over the rule of Hassan, Hassan the innefectual as some call him. This experiment at rule by the people has led to a stagnation of the empire. Yes many years of peace have passed but the message of Allah, the only true god, has stagnated and many other gods are worshiped in the infidels lands. Many of the former aristocracy are calling for a strong leader to take the empire to it's true position as leader of the world.
An unknown mystic warrior called Shaheen has emerged from the deep desert bringing with him the adoration of many of the desert people. It is rumoured that he is a descendant of the first Emeer Bikr.
He is called Maud'Dib by his followers and has the support of commoner and aristocrat alike. Rumour also has it that he follows the wierding way and teaches his warriors many magical tricks.
Maud'Dib calls for a holy Jihad against the infidels of Portuga and Spain, he insists that the Empire should expand and carry the holy message to the uneducated infidels.
His support grows and many fear that the rule of the people will be overturned. Others insist that the people are incapable of ruling themselves as the stagnation of the last years have shown and that a strong leader is required to take the empire to it's true destiny as a leader of the world. The Jihad is seen as many as the vehicle to carry the empire forward and Maud'Dib as the holy leader who can fulfill our true destiny.
Will the rule of the people last? Or will the will of god be carried out?
Hawklord Mar 20, 2005, 07:19 PM p.s. I'm not knocking the admiral's game play just getting in the spirit of things :p
Darwin420 Mar 20, 2005, 08:54 PM "Hear me, oh People of Mecca. I speak of the dangers that threaten our mighty Republic. I speak of the stagnation that permeates throughout our cities, and of the cowardice that rests within the Council of Elders. It is a danger to this great land of ours, and it is one that we the people must rise to meet!
My great-great-great-great-great-great-great ( ) Grandfather Al-Adib Bashir Al-Darwish wrote of his fears that this day would come. My Grandfather, who feared not the Romans and returned Caesar's nephew's head on a bronze platter; who oversaw the expansion of the Empire in the New Islands; who foresaw the day his beloved Empire would become a toy in the hands of a few, so-called "elected" officials.
My people, I say this system has failed us. I say this system has made us weak. The bards may sing of the bustling docks, and the bristling marketplaces, but the resolve of our people and the strength of our armies are but songs from the past. We must not let such things fade into history.
I say to thee, rise up and return to power those who were chosen by the First God Allah." :king:
-Speech made by Ali Bashir Ibn Al-Adib Al-Darwish (c. 70AD) in Mecca Square, shortly before he was hauled off by city Patrolmen and never heard from again...
Admiral Kutzov Mar 21, 2005, 06:25 AM President Hassan, seeing the discontent of the people coinciding with the expiration of the peace treaty, orders the general staff to prepare for a war with Henry. The Diplomatic Corps, when the treasury permits, will attempt to relieve the unbelievers of their technology. The sicilian cash infusion from the family continues.
Excerpt from Economic Report to the Council of Elders:
Prior to the founding of the great republic, our cities were floundering with little ability to grow quickly. Indeed, many of our richer neighbors to the north have sped ahead of us in the pursuit of war. Our great cities of Damascus, Medina, and Mecca will tolerate a short foriegn war with harbors and markets to keep the people in their luxuries. The increased worker activity will result in greatly increased capacity to support and build new modern units when we are technologically able to.
Excerpt from General Staff Report on War Preparation:
The Holy Forces have gathered on the borders. War with Henry is imminent. Stone throwing devices would greatly assist our offensive, however they will be unable to keep pace with our cavalry. Had we the metal clad foot soldiers of the north, our armies would be unstoppable. Without the stone throwing devices and foot soldiers, the offensive will rely on the genius of our commanders and the diety known as the PRNG.
Bianezzi Mar 21, 2005, 11:06 AM In distant Fustat, Emir Qih'liah had heard the news of a new war against the Portuguese. He also heard of the Roman conspiracy within the military.
"I need more power. This little town is too less of a kingdom for me to reign supreme."
Being a friend of Admiral Abu Nidal he wrote him a letter:
"We are disturbingly close to the Romans and hopelessly far from the Emirate Palace in Mecca. My city is too small and my forces laughable. The Caliph never came to Fustat; he never heard of the city, and the President of the Emirates hardly ever writes to me. The children in the Arab Empire only hear of Fustat as a "sand ball" created by traitorous Crodae's mad ambitions. Well, I have ambitions too. I'm tired of this Republic. I'm going east to found a new kingdom, one truely Arab and truely loyal to the Caliph and His Emirs. Wel'' pay our taxes, but we'll have our own forces and own government. Enough of this artificial centralism."
The Emir could borrow a Galon from the Navy in order to accomplish his dreams. The Emirs in Mecca were now thinking of a new Crodae threat...
------
Hawklord, do you want to be Grand Emir of the Council of the Emirates again?
If yes, grab the game and play it for the given time (in Republic, 10 turns).
You're the next, and then we'll decide the roster. We need more players!
Hawklord Mar 21, 2005, 01:35 PM OK I'll be a government man for 10.
Edit: Can't see the save, maybe my sight is failing and I'm too old to be Grand Emir  Though I'm sure ther will be lots of advisors giving advice. ;)

Stepping out of character, we're gonna need the markets for happiness and the gold should allow us to steal our way back into the tech race. If need be republic is much better for doing our own research.
We should preserve our rep with so many opponents. And I see an Admiral declaring a shift to communism in the far future...
Hawklord Mar 21, 2005, 04:40 PM In the time leading up to the elections Hassan gathered his supporters around him, many of them coming from the new merchant classes. They were all for a time of peace and renewed proffits. However, there was a movement in the old ruling classes to regain the power they had lost. 70AD was a very bloody time and many leading men died with strange ailments and some sprouted the curved dagger of the assassins from their backs in the middle of the night. The empire was in uproar.
Into this maelestrom of political madness the strange charismatic leader from the desert came. Many of the younger men on either side of the divide saw him as a viable alternative to either of the old factions. And so it came to pass that Shaheen, decendant of the much loved Caliph Bikr was voted in as Grand Emir of the Holy Arab Empire. His promises of glory attracting old and new blood alike.
90AD
His reign started out quiet with useful trades that brought the empire iron and a luxury of spice to flavour our food. This was gained by trading with the distant German peoples who wanted our Ivory and incense.
This was the lull before the storm, it was noted that many more troops were seen around the docks boarding ships for places unknown. Some rumoured Portugal others Spain and yet others Rome.
110AD
Still more troops were seen departing in ships, some carried long sharp swords made of the newly traded iron.
130AD
Grand Emir Shaheen tired of the insults to allah from the Portugese has declared the holly Jihad on the cursed Portugese infidels. News has come from the Iberian peninsular our glorious troops guided by Allah have captured Guimares. A horseman and Cavalry have gone to bide in heavon. 3 infidel spears were destroyed and 2 lots of workers put to work for the Empire.
AI
Towards the end of this period the carrion eater Caesar in Rome demanded ivory, The emer's representative has gifted the Romans the ivory as our troops are commited overseas. We will not forget this slight Romans. The holy Jihad will come your way sooner or later.
150AD 4
In a lightning raid on Emarita our Cavalry kill the defenders and capture the city with no losses. Allah is merciful.
From the road outside Emarita our troops can see Lisbon.
170-190AD
Troop movements.
210AD
The Grand Emir has ordered the start of the seige of Lisbon.
230AD
The Storming of Lisbon. 2 groups of archers attacked the city reducing the defenders but losing their lives to falling stones and spears. Next the cavalry stormed the defences but were forced to retreat. The 2 remaining Cavalry strormed the city at full charge overunning the defenders and took the city, capturing a catapult and a worker in the process.
On entering the city they found a strange building, on questioning one of the the city guards with the aid of a few sharp knives, he told our troops it was known as the great lighthouse. Also our troops were awed to see the giant statue known as the Colossus, they were amazed at its size, but even more amazed that these little men could have built such a thing. They will make good slaves but will need watching as they are obviousley devious. Though no match for Arab steel.
The Arab Empire now owns it's own source of Iron and Horses. There is also a source of spices nearby that we can claim at a later date.
Henry of the portugese is on his way back to Mecca so that the senate can decide what his fate should be.
250AD
Reports have reached Mecca from Fustat. The mountain overlooking the spanish city of Salamanca is putting out a high column of smoke and the rumbling of the Gods can be heard as far away as Khurasan. Many say that Allah will destroy the Spanish city as he is pleased with the destruction of the infidel Portugese.
260AD
Secure the new border.
In 260AD the Grand Emir Shaheen, Destroyer of Infidels, Scourge of the Portugese returned to Mecca in triumph with Henry in chains behind him. Next the Spanish or perhaps the hated Romans he promises the people. The people cheer and throw flowers at the victory parade.
The glory of the Empire shall grow greater he vowed on arriving at the Emir's palace....
The new expanded empire.
Hawklord Mar 21, 2005, 04:41 PM And the save is here:
Edit: Aggghhh the agents of Hassan have sabotaged the save. Guards find the perpitraters or I'll have your heads
Darwin420 Mar 21, 2005, 06:52 PM Even from my cell, I can hear the cheering of the crowds. Glory has returned to Arabia, our people, MY people rejoice. It is but a matter of time before I or my heirs return to power... though my body fades and joins the First God Allah, Al-Darwish is Eternal!!
-Found written on a piece of papyrus tied around a dog's leg, somewhere in the vicinity of Mecca Prison. Suspected to be from Ali Bashir Ibn Al-Adib Al-Darwish.
At least, that what the conspiracy theorists believe.
Admiral Kutzov Mar 21, 2005, 07:04 PM The people rejoice in the warm fuzzy feeling brought by iron...
Hawklord Mar 21, 2005, 08:14 PM A galley bearing troops is heading for the islands. I thought that we should reinforce the cities next to Rome as Caesar has been making warlike noises and is not to be trusted. The new Emir should decide the placement of troops to best defend the empire.
We should be OK on sea tiles with the Great Lighthouse and we have faster galleys now. :)
soul_warrior Mar 21, 2005, 11:39 PM Hassan Ibn Hassun, an officer in the newly constructed Allah's Blade regiment, saw something weird during a routine patrol in the newly aquired city Lisbon. in a narrow alleyway a few shadows were moving, in a not so natural way. whispering to his troops "follow me" he crept up into the alleyway, hoping to see what the infidels were upto (for he reasoned, no god fearing citizen would lurk around this late at night). a few step forward and a narrow turn, reveal a group of about 50. these men were obviously local slaves, dressed in thier strange pantallons and hoses. it appears to be an illegal gathering of some sort. "great" thinks Hassan, "maybe this is my ticket out of this garrison duty and into one the horse battalions." "ARREST THESE SCUM, IN THE NAME OF ALLAH!!"
some might have called this move foolish, trying to arrest 50 men with only a handful of guards, but Allah IS on the side of the true believers, and anyway, Hassan only meant to capture the ring leaders. the rest are not important. also the newly made steel Shabarie's (mockingly called IRON SWORDS but the stupid portugans) allowed for great carnage against sticks, sickles and stones.
a short battle ensued, and many of the localslaves attempted to run away, but having met in a cul-de-sac would be a painful and lasting lesson to them in clandestine work. the ring leaders were caught and brought in front of an Imam soon after. a quick trial revealed that they were not alone in this evil plot to overthrow to benevolent rule of arabia. many more were joining the cause everyday. "we must put a stop to this insanity" thought Hassan, "but how could a small, poor folk like the portugans, afford the massive uprising that is being orginized?"
"they must have an outer source of support!." but who could it be? the german volk are our friends, the only possible ones left are the people of Isabella, which are too timid, knowing in thier heart of hearts that true faith lies not with a rich god, but a desert god or the ancient roman peoples, rivals and enemies of the Emirate. yes, it must be them. but how do i find proof, for we cannot go to war unprovoked, and we MUST crush this right now. and then Hassan remembered something his grandfather has told him. "grandson, my great forefather, Nidal, has left us a secret and terrible task. it is a task that must pass form eldest son to eldest son, and CANNOT be discarded. his father before him, Abu Nidal, has joined a secret society. a society dedicated to enriching the few, by the work of many. that society was world encompassing, having members of all religions within it. they are rarely known, preferring to work in secret, but they have the power to even fell dynasties! you will be contacted one day, where you will be required to help thier (and our) mission. and you MUST DO WHATEVER they ask of you. in return for this you will be granted a service as well. you could use this to help our people! use the power of this organisation to look into other pepoles capitals, keep upto date with all the scientific knowledge and gain the upper hand in diplomatic talks.
Ahem, thought Hassan, i must look for these "shadow people".
WE MUST STOP THIS UPRISING.
and so Hassan started the effort of finding that secret society. a few years passed with no results whatso ever. the Organization seemed to be nonexsistant, when a messenger appears at Hassans door.
"i am here at the bequest of a higher power. it is time you contributed your help to our Family"
"yes, come in. what may i do?"
"we see your great nation is on the road to becoming a true world power. we would have you, and you future offspring, help us in making this a stable world. you must form and lead a group of people, men and women - yes, women - that will rule the Emirate from behind the scenes. your family's role has finally been decided."
"but how do i do this? rule the Emirate? i am but a lowly swordsman"
"not anymore you are not. we have many more friends, CAPTAIN HASSAN of the 1st holy horse brigde. you are to report for duty in the eastern training grounds tomorow morning. enjoy the rest of your career, and remember, we will watch you and help whenever we can, but do not forget our goal. Help our comerades in WHATEVER they require. get into power. become chief among your people, thus bringing stability and wealth."
with that the messenger turned to leave, but at the door turned and said
"Oh, another thing. that uprising nonsense you seem so worried about? be VERY worried. we have proof of a massive network of Roman spies within your empire. i suggest you try to clean those up. and dont worry too much, you'll get a chance for retribution. you next post should take you near the roman borders, for some "footwork"
Darwin420 Mar 22, 2005, 06:42 AM "A fool's power rests in his sword, as his brain is as dense as iron."
-Quote found scribbled on a piece of bark outside of Mecca Prison.
Hawklord Mar 22, 2005, 06:57 AM Darwin spends a lot of time hanging around Mecca prison reading dog's legs and pieces of bark. Does he visit his relations? How trustworthy a family does he come from? :hmm:
Or is it a simple perversion?
Darwin420 Mar 22, 2005, 11:15 AM I'm just collecting the scraps in the alleyways that I find outside one of the barred windows.... hey, at least I don't hang around with a bunch of Sicilians... :D

soul_warrior Mar 22, 2005, 12:07 PM "only a fool would trust iron, when he can trust god"
supposedly a remark by some mad Dervish, right before the Romans killed him.

Admiral Kutzov Mar 22, 2005, 03:03 PM Excerpt from The Idiot's Perspective, a non-profit think tank, government watchdog:
With the acquistion of iron our economy is regaining its rightful place in the world. Yet our president neglects the research. We, the intelligencia of the One True Republic demand an increase in trading or stealing of technology from the infidels. Lacking a commitment to getting what is rightfully ours, we demand an increase in the research budget.
Whomp Mar 22, 2005, 03:16 PM Off with this idiot's head for such lunacy I say !....lurker runs and hides
Admiral Kutzov Mar 22, 2005, 03:36 PM Writing down the particulars of a deal and having all parties to the deal affix their mark begins to enter our culture through our dealings with the infidels of the north. Apparently a piece of paper is heavier than the word of man in dealing with the infidels. Our first internal contract is issued to the Society of Assassins. In return for a certain lurker's head we will give them some pieces of gold. Messages are sent to the family to be watchful for the stalker...

Hawklord Mar 22, 2005, 11:12 PM It seems that the agents of Hassan have infiltrated the Ministry of Arab History. They have changed the books and claimed the destruction of the Portugese and the capture of Lisbon as part of his rule.
The Shaheen Bikr family have put out their own information containing the truth.
8. The 8th dynasty of Shaheen from 90AD to 260AD cannot be that easily forgotten. It was under Shaheen glorious rule that the remaining cities of the Portugese were brought into the empire.
Do the foolish Hassan family think that the people will forget the most glorious 270 years of our history just because they miss them out of the official account. Do not let these jackals back in power, they are greedy self-serving infidels and it is rumoured that they are at the heart of the secret Roman society that wants our glorious empire to become a satelite of Rome. Beware the usurpers of the true history. They are
soul_warrior Mar 23, 2005, 04:10 AM Abu Nidal's greatest grandson yet has heard disturbing news from the Iberian territories.

Whomp will be next, if he doesn't mind that.
soul_warrior Mar 23, 2005, 01:44 PM Yamima grins with satisfaction. her little plan to stop her husband's departure is working quite well. the thugs she has hired "persuaded" the ship's captain to leave on the midnight tide instead of the dawn's. no she may keep her husband home for a few more days.
i woe the days Hamassan, grandson of Abu, will find out. the penalty for this is the same for treason (wait... it WAS treason!) - stoning.
Darwin420 Mar 23, 2005, 02:10 PM Sayad Ibn Ali Bashir Ibn Al-Adib Al-Darwish, known as "the Hunter," stood atop the Palace balcony overlooking the immense crowd of cheering followers on the Parade Ground. He smiled. And waved. Long had the descendents of Al-Adib seek a return to power in Mecca. It was long overdue.
Around his neck, Sayad wore a necklace from which hung a thin bone. It had been recovered from the prison chamber where his forebear, Ali Bashir, had been kept all his life. Sayad had come into possession of it not long after become a Senator on the Council. It reminded him of the days of glory, before Mecca came to be ruled by "the people." Though he did not voice such opinions aloud, Sayad believed there was a Secret Society (probably Roman) controlling many in Mecca. He had no physical proof, but the First God Allah sent him visions in his sleep, more than enough evidence for Sayad.
Sayad turned away from the crowd and exited the balcony. He entered into a room where his advisors would meet. A servant boy stood against the far wall, ready to serve the officials. Sayad call him over and said, "Boy, summon the Whirling Dervishes. It is time for the First Council of Grand-Emir Sayad Ibn Ali Bashir Ibn Al-Adib Al-Darwish to convene!"
As the servant scurried off to execute his command, Sayad smiled. His reign, though shorter than his ancestors, would be glorious!!

Darwin420 Mar 24, 2005, 05:38 PM An Account of Grand-Emir Sayad Ibn Ali Bashir Ibn Al-Adib Al-Darwish:
(01) 270AD
Grand-Emir Sayad surveys the state of the Arab Republic. He is disatisfied with the state of research, and provides the Scholars with some more funding. The concepts of Engineering should be learned during Sayad's reign.
(02) 280AD
Word reaches Mecca that the French have completed a grand temple for an order of knights known as Knights Templar.
An assassin is captured after an unsuccessful attempt on Sayad's life. During interrogation the assassin admits being hired by the villainous Spanish Ambassador. While no word of this is brought up to Isabella's representatives, Sayad is not please.
Preparations are begun during this era for military expansion. Sayad's advisors assure him the Republican Army is much stronger than the pitiful Spanish.
(03) 290AD
Agents of Crodatae stir up trouble in Al-Crodatae. Sayad personally beheads the leader of the resistance. There is murmuring in the Council that the Grand-Emir is far too despotic to remain in power. A couple weeks later several of those Council members left Mecca for an inspection of the Republic's colonies in the New Islands. Their ship never reaches Anjar.
(04) 300AD
Nothing of note occures in this era. Reports from the mainland indicate several nations are vying for favor from a Scholar known as Leonardo. Grand-Emir Sayad has no desire to attract someone who is most obviously a Roman spy.
(05) 310AD
All is quiet in the Empire. Grand-Emir Sayad issues an order that gives him authority to veto a Council edict vetoing a law put forth by the Grand-Emir. The Council is not happy with this, and attempt to veto this new law, but Grand-Emir Sayad vetoes the Council's veto, and the law is kept on the books.
(06) 320AD
The science of Engineering is discovered by the Scholars. There is much rejoicing in the Empire. Work is begun on a new concept the Scholars are calling "Feudalism" ... At the moment, Grand-Emir Sayad does not expect the Scholars to complete their research into "Feudalism" during his tenure.
(07) 330AD
More military units are trained and sent over to the colonies in Iberia. Sayad muses that perhaps the next Grand-Emir will take advantage of the large military and bring the Glory of the Arab Republic to the infidel lands.
(08) 340AD
Isabella sends Grand-Emir a card congratulating Sayad on his birthday. Grand-Emir Sayad does not wish to be reminded of his birthday, and has the Spanish messenger thrown into Mecca Prison. The Spanish Ambassador is told the messenger tried to steal some bread in the market.
The infidel Spanish believe this!
(09) 350AD
The ideas of the Republic are shown to the Scandinavian people, in exchange for a supply of furs and gold. Despite this generosity from Grand-Emir Sayad, the Scandinavians remain annoyed with us. . . Barbarians.
(10) 360AD
The Council tires of Sayad's aggressive tactics and hire a Roman by the name of Brutus to kill the Grand Emir. The entire Republic rejoices at the news of Sayad's death in Mecca's marketplace.
Emergency elections are held, and the winner is...
Whomp Mar 24, 2005, 08:10 PM Esmak al Fajer spoke to the people in the Mecca market. He proclaimed
“The Moorish Spaniards better not be attempting to fulfill one of their five pillars of faith by making a pilgrimage to Mecca right now. I say to them beware of the Ides of March". (okay add ten days to make it March 25th)
Though the council secretly applauded the death of Grand-Emir Sayad Ibn Ali Bashir Ibn Al-Adib Al-Darwish the public was enjoying the fruits conquest brought to its people. After the assasination, the populous looked toward Esmak al Fajer a man of little intellligence but great strength and will. In the language of infidels his name meant "Your name is the Wicked One". Raised in the slums of Medina but moved to Mecca to follow the teachings of the Great Calif of that time. Fajer, along with his trusty black Arabian stallion Cattawhomptasi, was prepared to lead the country by whatever means necessary.
And the saga continued….
Whomp Mar 25, 2005, 02:35 PM And the saga continued….
Fajer was a very mysterious man and as a bedouin no one knew his exact tribal roots. Many believe he was raised by his Uncle Abu Talib who was rarely around for Fajer because Talib was advising one of his other famous nephews. Fajer was a simple, quiet man who had two young sons. As a leader of the elite legions known as the Ancient Cavalry Fajer was called upon by the people to carry out their destiny. A fierce warrior Fajer was asked to advise the army into the Iberian peninsula and free the Moors from the shackles of Catholicism.
Here is his story…
Fajer knew his country was backwards compared to many nations. He needed to outfit his swordsman with the new technology mentioned by some silly think tank thing....Fajer sent envoys across the world and many offers were made. Fajer traded a territory map and 3g for France’s territory map. As a cunning man he traded engineering and 91g to Spain for the much needed warrior technology known as Feudalism. This allowed Fajer to outfit 3 sword armies into Medeval infantry. Little did the Spainards know these men would soon by trampling on their cities. The Ottomans had 2 slave teams for sale and Fajer bought them for 174g. Emerita needed more religion to expand its borders and a temple was built quickly for 56g.
370 AD The French have requested a man named Copernicus to study the stars. Fajer trades another warrior technology with the English and gets invention for 207g and 13gpt. Again Fajer being a crafty man trades this technology to Spain in return for Monotheism. The horseman near the Spanish capital is recalled to join forces in the homeland.
380 AD the Germanic people have completed work with two men JS Bach and Leonardo da Vinci. Fool’s play. In a great speech in the Mecca market Fajer proclaims the Moors will not be allowed into the country. As a ploy to create discontent in Spain the ambassdor of Arabia has told the Spaniards we will not allow their people to move through our lands. Our right of passage is terminated. There is much disconent throughout the Moorish population of Spain. Many troops are moved to the borders of Spain.
IBT The french complete two wonders in Paris and Marsellies that I forgot to write down.
390 AD Fajer summons Isabella. The message is clear “Give our great country the work called chivalry or we will be required to declare war on your festering weak country. Isabella adamantly refuses. Fajer proclaims this as a declaration of war!!! Through all this Fajer feels enormous anxiety. His needs are to be with his men. This is where he is most comfortable. These are the men are his closest friends and confidants. Fajer discomfort with the political arena and lap of luxury gives him deep discomfort. He hides this anxiety from the populous and the politicians. Fajer will be patient. He has trained his generals well.
400 AD A message has been returned from the field. Oporto and Santiago have been taken by the well trained Ancient Cavalry.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/1.JPG
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/3.JPG
There is much rejoicing in the streets of Arabia. Fajer recognizes the taking of Oporto opens the sea lanes for trade and as well another luxury to trade. He calls upon Elizabeth and brings furs and gems to our great people for wines, ivory and silks. This brings much happiness to the great people of Arabia. Fajer wants nothing to do with these luxuries. His anxiety grows.
IBT While slowly building a mine on the iron hill near Lisbon slaves Raul and Sergio see an unusual sight. It is a group of heavily armored men riding over the ridge. It’s nothing they’ve ever seen before. The attack is lightning fast and the fortified spearmen protecting the hill are easily dispatched with virtually no damage to these armored horsemen. Raul and Sergio are dragged away by these silent killers.
410 AD Fajer’s anxiety was now uncontrollable. He sent for his faithful stallion Cattawhomptasi and boarded a galley to join the front. He left instructions with the corrupt politicians to keep open communications on any pending diplomacy and to continue building markets for the cities. He needed to be with his legions. Word had come back that the iron hill near Lisbon had been attacked by a group of Spainards called knights. Though Fajer has heard of these new horsemen he did not expect this type of outcome so soon. He ordered the swordsmen of Lisbon to make the first strike to destroy these knights. The swordsmen attachment delivered fatal blow that seriously injured these knights. A call to the Ancient cavalry finished off these ironclad horsemen just as Fajer had taught them. At Seville, it was raining boulders on the city. 2 Pike armies were injured protecting this city. The first to attack was a proud yet old attachment of horsemen (they hoped to have armor like they heard the Spanish had at Lisbon). The 1st attachment destroyed the first line of defense. The 2nd group retreated into what is known as a stack of doom. The 3rd attachment marched into Seville without a scratch and one of the new infantrymen destroyed the final spearmen defenses to take the city. The Arabic people rejoiced.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/2.JPG
420 AD Fajer joined his army at the steps of Madrid. He ordered his elite calvalry to attack the city. The 1st destroyed a pike attachment, the 2nd takes serious damage but kills another pike and Fajer himself with his elite cavalry unit attacks and the capital of Madrid has fallen. Word gets back to Mecca and the populous felt much joy.
(BTW that's a picture of he and Cattawhomptasi standing in Madrid!)
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/4.JPG
In 430 and 440 AD the armies close in on Barcelona, Toledo and Salamanca. At Salamanca a ancient cavalry attachment kills a pike army.
450 AD A ancient archer attacks at Salamanca but is no match. Isabella begs for peace. She is willing to give 2 secrets and more slaves. Fajer denies them and presses on.
Hiding deep in the woods near Toledo, desperate Isabella calls for a surprise attack with her long range bowmen. Out of these forests they attack the mountainside where Fajer and his stack of doom were climbing. All of the sudden there was a noise –phoom- ….there was a stunned silence amongst the legions. Many infantrymen fell and Fajer himself had 5 bows stuck near or in his heart. Fajer gasped….“Press on my friends…take Barcelona.…take Salmanaca. I will not…be able…to join you…in this…great feat…of our nation. You are my friends…live long and prosper. His voice was quickly growing dim…. Maybe mo….and just like that Esmak al Fajer was gone.
460 AD. Word reached Mecca of Fajer’s death. Fajer while facing east had a vision this would happen. He left a message and this is what it said.
To my wife and children—I love you. To the people of our great nation be proud, our warriors have fought valiantly and with that many spoils. We have freed the shackles from the Moors, a people like our own. They can now join our nation. Leave one city for these pitiful Spaniards. We can gain much knowledge from their scientists. Make peace but get gunpowder, chivalry and many slaves from them. You can sell gunpowder for theology to the Greeks and maybe more.
Live long and prosper.
Yours in servitude,
Esmak al Fajer.
The scribes will tell the rest of his story. On the war front Fajer’s generals were at Barcelona’s doorstep and would likely take this city by 470 AD. The city of Salamanca was easily taken with the vengeful legions and was now under Arabic control.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/5.JPG
The borders around Emerita expanded due to its religious influence. Farmer discovered bountiful spices. The interim President cancelled trade with the French for spices and iron since each were plentiful within our nation. He was able to trade the French ivory, incense and dyes(?) to the French for 28gpt.
This was the story of Esmak al Fajer's reign as a Arab leader.
The new empire....
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/6.JPG
PS I wasn't sure if the variant allowed settlers but there's one in Mecca that can rejoin or go if we can use them. Sorry I couldn't remember so I didn't make many. Oh and another thing...sorry for the wideness of the pics I think I forgot to crop them a bit.
Darwin420 Mar 25, 2005, 02:56 PM Nice turns!
I never get to wage war... :pout: :))
Admiral Kutzov Mar 25, 2005, 03:36 PM The death of Fajer causes much grief in the streets. School children send their dinars to the capital with petitions that a great palace be built in Madrid to honor Fajer. This palace will be forbidden to all infidels. Fajer's nephew, a boy of unusual height and girth, begins to plan for the day when he can continue his uncle's dream. Kareem Abdoul Jabar begins his quest.
Hawklord Mar 25, 2005, 09:08 PM NBice turns finish off the Spanish before they revolt,
Whomp Mar 25, 2005, 09:54 PM We can pick up 3 techs if we make peace (after we take Barcelona) and I think the chances of a flip were pretty low.
Bianezzi Mar 28, 2005, 11:19 AM Great turn, Whomp.
I'll get the save tonight and check if everything's ok. Hope you guys are being honest with those fights (not loading games).
Since Yama is not going to play, I'll make a new roster with the older players. And I want to play again too! :)
soul_warrior Mar 28, 2005, 01:02 PM Yamima, the wife of the now infamous Hamassan, grandson ofthe famous Abu, prays for guidance from Allah. she realises she has commited a horrible sin, thinking of her own selfish needs instead of the empire's. she managed to ruin her husband's career that day. his delay (for he shipped out a week later) caused, indirecty, she tries to think, the destruction of a whole regiment of men in the spanish war.
it has been many years for her, keeping this awful secret. but she cannot keep it any more.
confiding in her beloved Hamassan, she tells him all.
i knew off it, dear wife, i knew all along. it is not your fault. in fact you may have saved my life for a higher, different cause.
at that exact moment there is a knock on the door. at the door stand 4 men in black turbans. "we are here on behalf of Nasri Ibn Gvirol, chief of the secret police. he would like to talk with you, esteemed Hamassan. come with us."
"Hamassan, i need a man i can trust for a tough job in the FORMER spaniard queendom. can i trust you? really ttrust you?"
ofcourse you can! what does the empire need of me. but i must tell you the truth, i thought my serving carrer was ended those many years gone.
True. but i need a man not known to th etroops or the spaniards. i need a man of guile, a amn that can keep a secret at all costs.
i need a man to form and command, UNDER MY COOMAND, a branch of the empire, a secret branch. will you be that man?
as i told you before, i will, without hestation.
fine. you will leave now. we have a ship waiting. write your wife, but know that your mission will last many years, and rarely will you be safe.
later that day, Yamima recieves a note for her husband. "dearest, my moment of glory has come. i msut leave immediatly for the front, but will return when the uprisings have been quelled. keep little Jamal and Carim safe. i will write when i can, and i will be back someday soon. i cannot tell you of my duties, but know that even unheard, i am satisfied the empire needs me again. love, Hamassan."
can we have a go, please :bounce: :bounce:?? Yamima repents, and Hamassan is on the way to the front....
Bianezzi Mar 29, 2005, 09:31 AM I will play a couple of turns tonight (just checking some things), then you go, soul_warrior.
Bianezzi Mar 29, 2005, 09:38 PM Kareem Abdul Jabar was appointed as a natural choice by the Emirate, being one of the most influential Generals during the episode that would be known as "Conquista", the invasion of most of the Iberian peninsula. Unlike his uncle Esmak, the great Conqueror, Kareem had a keen eye for science and culture. This could be his greatest feat, but resulted in his greatest failure.
His first act as Grand-Emir was to approve a series of oppressive laws against the Spanish Moslems, or Moors. These laws were called by them the "Decepción", but Kareem's coleagues had seen it as a great Cultural Revolution. Among the measures were the prohibition of all Spanish cultural demonstration within the limits of the Empire; the Spanish language was forbidden, all the Spanish (and Portuguese) cities were renamed with Arabian ones, Moors were forbidden to be allowed in the Mosques of Mecca. Needless to say, this generated great riot among the Moors, who wanted to retain their Spanish heritage without compromising the Sacred Faith and their obedience to the Grand-Emir.
The year of 469 saw an endless repetition of revolts and uprisings. The former Spanish Sultans were prepared to wage full war against the Emirate and they were gaining support from the ever-discontent Arab Islandeers from the East and the Monarchists in Mecca. Although Isabella XIX was accused of financing the Sultans, the poor conditions of what was left of the Catholic Spanish made the accusation pointless.
It was in December of 469 AD that the Sultans met in the former city of Madrid (now al-Bikr) and signed the "Reacción", a letter with their ambitions for a new government and a new decentralized regime. It was revolution indeed.
-----------------------------------------------
La Reacción
We, the Sultans of the Iberian Arab Empire, the Emirs of the Eastern Islandeer Arab Empire, the Emirs of the Portuguese Emirates, the Royal Family of the Late al-Bikr Dinasty, the Great-Vizir of al-Crodatiae, thereby sign this letter, DENOUNCING the corrupt Emirate and their despotic leader, Kareem Abdul Jabar. AND:
1 - We call for the Sultans of all over the land to use their newly acquired armies and territories to rise against the corrupt government at Mecca.
2 - We will pay tribute to the rightful heir of the Caliph's Throne and/or His Representant appointed by Allah the Merciful BUT We will retain our autonomy as independent states governed by We, the Sultans.
3 - We fomalize the constitution of the Iberian Sultanate, the Islandeer Sultanate, and the Principality of al-Crodatiae, all paying their rightfull tributes to the heir of the Caliph's Throne of the Great Arab Empire and/or His Representant appointed by Allah the Merciful.
4 - We declare that all Moorish cities shall be called by both their Spanish AND Arabian names, and that Spanish language is allowed to be spoken within the limits of the Empire, although all the prayers and official languages are still to be Arabic.
5 - We shall let our Sacred Men decide wether the Moorish rituals are herectic or not, BUT the Supreme Caliph WILL have power to prosecute and terminate heresy wherever it shall appear, by the Grace of Allah the Perfect.
6 - We are now retreating our armies from the catholic territories and recognizing the Barcelona government as legitimate, as long as they cease their expansionist catholic activities in Europe.
--------------
There was chaos all over the Empire. Who would be next Great Caliph? Would it be a powerful Sultan? Or will the Emirate return?
Bianezzi Mar 29, 2005, 09:42 PM And here is the save.
It's your turn now, soul_warrior. The fate of the Arab Empire is in your hands. Would it be back to Republic? Would it turn a Sultanate (Feudalism)?
It's your choice. Remember to play the turns by the rules (10 if Republic, 20 if Feudalism PLUS the Anarchy period).
soul_warrior Mar 30, 2005, 05:44 PM gots it.

Bianezzi Apr 02, 2005, 01:46 PM Ok, Admiral_Kutzov, it's your turn, soul_warrior is MIA.
Admiral Kutzov Apr 02, 2005, 03:50 PM Am I allowed to go to Monarchy again? I've played a game as a Feudal lord and it's not fun. So I'll go either Monarchy or Rep. If I go Monarchy, it's 20+ the anarchy right?
Admiral Kutzov Apr 02, 2005, 06:40 PM I decided it was legal to go back to monarchy. so I did. If it's not. I'll replay. Here's a teaser until the questions are answered.

Admiral Kutzov Apr 03, 2005, 09:39 AM Anarchy ruled the streets as La Reaccion was posted in the streets. Igor Idiotski, a foreign mercenary, was arrested in Mecca with an immense trunk of cash. He took his own life with a concealed poison before he could be put to the question. There were whispers of a Roman plot. Somehow during this period of anarcy the Sultans secured a Right of Passage with the newly recognized Spanish government in Barcelona.
In the end the Emirs and Sultans could agree on no single individual with the trust of them all. As La Reaccion Committee met for the seventh day, news arrived of Roman legions forming on the borders. The Sultans and Emirs felt the noose tightening around their necks. The people would not support a war against the hated romans unless a strong leader was at the helm of the ship of state. Hakeem al-BIkr, last surviving male with direct descent to the al-Bikr Dynasty, was appointed Grand Capliph of the United Arab Empire. Hakeem smiled as his family's rule was restored. It was he who had given Igor the Idiot the cash and then passed on the information that led to the arrest.
Hakeem begah his rule by ordering the learned scientists to learn more of the ways of allah and supported this order with 80% of the royal budget.
The people blossomed under Hakeem's rule and the new cities of Aden and Yamana were established.
An embassy was established with the heathen french in order to more closely watch them in 520. In 530, a right of passage was secured with the French in spite of her constructing some pagan's Theather.
The romans became insufferable in 540 and our righteous warriors were directed to smite the hated romans. Allah smiled on our efforts and the city of Hisplasis fell that very year.
Alex the Greek has developed a machine we may use to print books. We trade him Eduction for it.
Otto joins our righteous jihad against the romans in 560 for a mere annual payment of 29gpt. Like a hyena feasting over a lion's kill, Joan joins us against the Romans for 15gpt in 570.
An ansar warrior is victorious near antium. Our wise men proclaim this is a sign of allah's favor and we enter a golden age
A trade deal with England is struck in 600. The English will provide furs and gems in return for ivory, wines, and 24gpt.
The Rusians join the French against the Romans.
Muscat is founded in 620.
The siege of Veii begins in 640. Mansura is founded in 650. A great leader emerges from the Siege of Veii. An army is formed.
Hakeem pauses to consider his next moves. His choices will consolidate his rule or tumble him from the throne. He walks a razor's edge.

soul_warrior Apr 04, 2005, 06:03 AM the chronicles of the dastardly Seymour are being written.
for the impatiant ones, his tenure was rather brief, lasting only 40 years, at which time he was "retired" by one of the last surviving roman spies, during his victory parade through the gates of Rome.
soul_warrior Apr 04, 2005, 11:33 AM this is the tale of Seymour the great, written by the most devout Ibn Sayeed Abu Allah, prince of Rome.
it is the year 690 by the reckoning of the Arabs. a dire year, a year that has brought forth the end of our noble empire, through the hands of a traitor. Yes, i call the great Seymour a traitor. why, do you ask? well, let me tell you his tale.
as his brother, Igor, was mercilessly put to the saber, for no real reason, Seymour has plotted his revenge upon the evil arabs. how to go about this, he pondered?
i would join thier army, incognito. as they always need more swords, i will rize swiftly in the ranks, and when the time is right, i shall sell the battle plans to the Roman legions, ensuring the desdtruction of the arab troops in Rome!
so Seymour joined one of the arab crack cavalry regiments, set to act in the ongoing roman jihad.
seymour spends a feew years ransacking the odd roman village, gaining prestige, for he truly was a great general. by 694 he commanded his our regiment, and by 697 he has command of a cavalry army. soon he thought, i could strike at the heart of the filthy arabs.
that year, some disturbing news reached his army. news that if acted upon by the arabs, would surely cost him his revenge.
the french have completed a grand theater in Paris, and a huge trading depot in the prosperous city of Orleans. that meant greater power to the dogs, and a greater chance that rome shall not survive long enough to fulfill its destiny.
up until this time, Seymour is a traitor only in his dark heart, but now begins his true evil.
in the year 700, with abrilliant sneak attack by his elite ancient cavalry, the city of Pompeii is taken. the cost was horrific aswell, for Seymour had delayed the arrival of the cat battalion, with the excuse of "logistical problems". the result - two complete regiments slaughtered at the walls of Pompeii. maenwhile, a valiant upcoming leutenant Hassin Rashid, manages to offset the disater and take the city of cumae with only 10 dead horses. never has such a victory been witnessed!
it is now 703. the public, is extremly happy with the wars progression, and combined with the heavy investment in libraries, temples and scholarship, the people become much more cultured, and bringing in to the fold of the empire lots of new land. this trend lasts until 710.
in 710 the Ottomans and the French sign an Alliance to wage whole and complete war against the romans. Seymour sees the end, but cannot abandon his plan. that same year, he recieve the tiltle of Supreme Horse of Rome. a title that gives him command over all of the roman front.
he uses these troops to attack Rome, but sends a trusted underling. a certain Brutus Maximus, to rome beforehand, with the battle plans. he also repeats his "logistics" problem. the result is one of the direst losses in arabian history. 4 whole regint of our holy Ansars are slain in an ambush, while another 3 are almost lost (redlined).
as a reaction to the terrible news, a new massive project is undertaken in Mecca. a glorious war academy, where warriors can learn the stroies and legends of war becoming more valiant and ferocious. this, it is hoped, will bring out the best leaders out of the troops.
it takes reinforcements a few years to amass at the gates of rome, and at the lucky 720, the city falls to the ravaging horsemen.
seeing his revenge gone, seymour cannot keep it to himself, and recruits a few generals, loyal to him. his plan - to sack Mecca!
but, luckily for the empire, his "friend" Brutus Maximus, is a secret musilm, and confesses the plan to the secret police.
seymour is apprehended, sentenced and beheaded within hours.
you may call him Just, Villain, Martyr, Loving brother. all would be correct, but the result is shame to all warriors. a warrior that would sell out thousands of troops just to avenge a single death, however unjust cannot be forgiven.
Syemours name has been stricken form the official rosters, according to the new Epic War plans of indoctrination.
only one last this remains of this warlike genius.
a map. a battle map.
a map for the destruction of the horrid french.

Sheik Coinich al Fateh strolled the streets of Kufah. An entourage of minor religious officials following behind him attentively, as he continued to speak to them about the requirements, proclaimed by Allah, that the religion of Islam is to be spread throughout the world.
"Master, are you saying that war against the Romans and Spanish are justified in the eyes of the great one", asked a disciple?
"Indeed, my young student. It is not the fault of Arabia, that the Romans and Spanish have hardened their hearts and minds to the ways of Islam. It is most unfortunate; however, because this does necessitate that Arabia indoctrinate the unbelievers in our ways. This needs be done, despite the fact they will accuse Arabia of being aggressors and 'conquerors'. They do not realize what they are saying. They only spray the words, and spittle, that comes from the wiles of the evil one. "
There was much nodding in the small crowd that had now gathered to hear this most "enlightened" religious teacher, who was increasingly gaining in popluarity.

The Chronicles of Coinich al Fateh, Sheik of Arabia
In the year of Allah, number 728, a hugely popular cleric named Coinich al Fateh, or Coinich the Conqueror, ascended to the Sultancy of Arabia. Here are some excerpts of his life, as chronicled by Hassan, his personal scribe, and a faithful acolyte of Islam.
In the first year of his rule, as ordained by Allah himself, Sheik Coinich authorized the completion of the following projects, in benevolence to the peoples of Arabia:
1. Urged the scholars and academicians to discard their studies regarding the reading of stars for navigation, and instead begin the research in to the prospects of using science applications to harden metals.
2. Personally visited the major cities of the kingdom, to discuss the production of those cities with their governors. With the assistance of Allah, his holiness was able to persuade the governors of El Croditae, Cumae, and Veii to change their production. In recognition of Cumae, and Veii’s importance to the realm, the benevolent sheik authorized the accelerated completion of a temple in both cities.
3. The thriving city of Yamamam was noted to be without the protection of any defensive unit loyal to the crown. His holiness, in a moment of sheer enlightenment, ordered the governor of Yamamam to rapidly complete the barracks, which was under construction at the time, with the help of some financial subsidy from the coffers of the people. This was done so in the future, the local training, and arming, of a defensive unit would render the unit well enough trained so as to be considered veteran.
Whomp Apr 11, 2005, 09:12 AM Hope all is well Coinich.
It seems the cleric Coinich al Fateh has made an immediate impact for the cause of Islam.
Coinich Apr 11, 2005, 10:54 AM The following continues the documentation of the life of His Holiness, Coinich al Fateh, Sheik of Arabia, as faithfully recorded by me, Hassan, his favored scribe, and a devoted student of the one, true, God.
In the year 735, the blessed of Allah , took audience with the ambassador of Germania. Although he found the German lack of piousness quite disturbing, he nonetheless wisely realized that cultural differences were bound to occur, especially with those who lived farther distances away from the light of Arabia. It seemed that the people of Germania were quite enamored by the beauteous and fine silken ware that was produced by the faithful of Arabia. The ambassador had been authorized by Frederick, the King of the Germans, to negotiate an exchange for a constant supply of Arabian silk.
The great, and noble, Sheik saw that Arabia had more than enough bolts of silk cloth to keep their own population appeased and in obedient service to Allah. His Holiness authorized the exchange of one caravan full of Arabian silks per year, for twenty years, in exchange for the Germans contributing 11 gold units per year, for the same period.
Coinich Apr 11, 2005, 11:58 AM In the year 740, the beloved of Allah, held court with the military advisors charged with the protection of the faithful. As Allah is my witness, the following are true and faithful accountings of the results of the decisions that transpired during that meeting:
1. The catapults and trebuchets, which were previously located throughout Rome, were moved to the city of Veii, in preparation for furtherance of the campaign against the vile Romans. Ever since the liberation of Veii, the military strategists had been very concerned that the location of more Roman cities were not known to our cartographers. This meant that our enlightenment of the citizens of Rome would come to a standstill, until such time as more of their cities could be located.
2. The Al Karaggh, which was bringing two units of Ansar Warriors to the Roman theater, was diverted to the shores near the town of Hispalis.
3. Land-based military forces were consolidated in the cities of Hispalis, and al Bikr, in preparation for a jihad against the Iberian infidels. It is anticipated that it will take the span of many years to prepare for a spirited attack against the unfaithful in Iberia. His Holiness has decreed that despite the vast cultural differences, the fervor with which the French joined our jihad against the unholy Romans, has shown them to temporarily be “friends of the faithful”.
4. His Holiness, anointed of Allah, further decreed that since the infidels of Rome appear to have had their spirits crushed by the might that is Arabia, the new focus of the armed forces of the faithful, will be devoted toward the sole purpose of finishing the enlightenment of the Iberian peoples.
Coinich Apr 11, 2005, 12:05 PM In the year 743, I have properly recounted the servant of Allah, holding audience with the meek and sullen ambassador of the barbaric infidels of Rome.
The ambassador was made to enter the presence of His Holiness in shackles and chains. The robes of his office were stripped, and he was made to hold his head bowed in reverence, and his body kneeled in servitude, to the mouthpiece of Allah, may he be merciful to us all.
The ambassador tried to hold his pride, as he spoke with His Holiness. But after seeing the hardness of his heart, the ambassador was made to realize that his prideful attitude was sinful. He was proclaimed an infidel, and almost thrown out to the executioner. Alas, His Holiness’ heart did soften enough to remain in audience with the infidel from Rome.
Infused with the wisdom of Allah, the Sheik inquired as to how far the Roman had traveled. He quickly realized that the forces of Rome would not be able to redeploy quickly enough to crush the remaining Roman cities. He decided, instead, to make peace with the Romans, until such time as the forces of the faithful could be brought to bear against them.
As the books of law would demand, His Holiness was firm with the Roman infidel, and he demanded the following from Rome, in exchange for peace:
1. The science, known by Rome, of Metallurgy
2. The science, known by Rome, of Astronomy
3. A Roman map of the known world.
Despite his unbridled hatred, the Roman begrudgingly, and wisely, acquiesced to the demands of Arabia.

Coinich Apr 11, 2005, 12:06 PM In the year 745, the beloved of Allah received a missive from the leader of the friends of the people, the French.
While I, Hassan, was not privy to view the document, I do know it caused much concern for the blessed of Allah. He was quite disturbed to find the French had become quite upset toward Arabia for declaring peace with the Roman infidels. The French must have realized the distances traveled would take years to press the attack, and the missive he had sent to France regarding the treaty with Rome, had clearly spelled that out. His Holiness then knew that Arabia could only depend upon Allah, and herself, from here on out. The peace was still in effect with France, but the forces of the faithful would keep an ever-vigilant watch against any possible French aggression. The focus of Arabia was now firmly set upon Iberia.
Coinich Apr 11, 2005, 12:09 PM In the year 748, the al Karaggh of the fabled sea-captain Ahmar al Bashir, was granted audience with the defender of the faith. I swear by Allah, my hand is guided by the truth.
Ahmar al Bashir paid proper respects to the great Sheik. After exchanging pleasantries, and gifts, the great captain regaled the blessed of Allah with a “sea story”. The captain then entered in to a discussion regarding the reason he had begged audience. I was, of course, privy to the contents of the discussion, and I chronicle the summary thereof, in this scroll for you now:
Ahmar brought with him the news that the “rampaging forces of the Ottoman Empire have destroyed the last remaining Roman city of Ceasaragusta”. I must admit that even I was somewhat taken aback by the news, just as I know His Holiness was, by the expression on his face.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/ottomans.JPG
I would not, of course, ever show emotion, in the presence of the great Sheik, for I consider myself most privileged to study under his wise tutelage.
The blessed of Allah asked many questions of the sea captain, and listened attentively to his answers. There were further discussions of strategy and local news from the far east, where Ceasaraugusta had once lain. The infidels were now part of the Ottoman Empire.
This news meant that Arabia was free to pursue the Iberian front. Additionally, the newest, ex-Roman, citizens of Arabia, would rest easier now, having lost their cultural identity with Rome. This would definitely help speed along their integration to Islam. The sea captain was rewarded handsomely for his news, and devotion to the faith. I did notice that His Holiness walked with a bounce in his step for several days after this audience.
Coinich Apr 11, 2005, 12:12 PM That's the summary of where I am to-date. I will try to play another couple of turns as soon as possible. :hmm: But probably not the whole 20 turns. Thank you to all for the patience and well wishes. :hatsoff:

evil is in the hearts of the ottomans, but a wise captain will try to always come up on top of the game. i cant keep up the piracy, the arabs are pouring galleys of war into the sea.
BANG!! Giorgio sees a flash, and knows what the romans should have known well before that. WHO UP? me?
Coinich Apr 12, 2005, 01:09 PM In the decade which commenced in the year 751, as I stand here today, I certify the following events transpired:
In 751, His Holiness was presented scientific information, which I was wont to understand, regarding the arts of hardening metals. Shortly after the meeting, he most wisely decreed that seven trebuchet divisions, which were holding in the newly acquired city of Veii, should be upgraded to, and trained in the use of, the cannon. Such action would assure the military might, and superiority, of Arabia for millennia to come.
In the year 753, an al Karaggh was stationed in the Strait of Gibraltar to facilitate the transferring of military units to the new lands.
At the dawn of the year 755, His Holiness was attacked, personally, by the wiles of the evil one. As sickness enveloped him, he was greeted by a vision from Allah himself. When Allah, may he be praised, forced the evil humors from the mortal body of His Holiness, the attack against the Iberians was pushed forward. One does not interfere with the edicts of the great Allah.
The attack plans were rescheduled, and the units began moving toward Iberian territory. They consisted of:
Dispatched from the vicinity of Hispalis:
Six Cannon Divisions
One Ancient Cavalry Army, and
Five Ansar Warrior divisions
Dispatched from the vicinity of al-Bikr:
Three Swordsman Units
Five Ansar Warriors
It would take possibly several decades to have the logistics in place to enable an attack against the Iberians, but the great Sheik was not deterred in his steadfastness.

Coinich Apr 12, 2005, 03:30 PM More coming - most likely tomorrow. Then I'll post the save. I've played about 7 turns.
In the decade which commenced in the year 761, as I stand here today, I certify the following events transpired:
In 761, a dispatch arrived, via courier, from Germania. It appears the German’s had completed a grand project called “Newton’s University”, in Leipzig. The University being recognized by the other nations of the world as a hotbed of science and research. This vexes His Holiness, but it appears Arabia is not to be a scientific leader of the world in the near future.
In the year 764, the French ambassador conducts a state visit with His Holiness. The ambassador was prone to committing the sin of drunkenness. During a state dinner, at which I had the good fortune to be present, the impious ambassador disclosed several interesting positions regarding the greatness of Arabia:
1. The French possessed new weapons systems and trained men, known as Riflemen.
2. The French people viewed Arabian culture as crude
3. The French military was mightier than the army of the faithful
4. The French were more technologically advanced
5. Arabians viewed French culture as very impressive.
Allah was with His Holiness that night, for he received the verbal diatribe from the ambassador with good humor, and did not immediately order the infidel executed.
In the year 763, His Holiness, Sheik Coinich al Fateh, received several reports of French ships of war and transports poking their way around the sovereign shorelines of Arabia. While we do have an agreement, with the French, that allows our units to traverse the waters and lands of the other, this did cause some measure of concern for the Great Rock of Arabia.
Coinich Apr 13, 2005, 02:57 PM May play one or two more turns - sorry this is taking so long. Nearing the end of the dynasty!
I attest the following writing to be by my hand, as a truthful reconstruction of the attack against Iberia:
In the year 769, the beloved of Allah received word from his advisors that the Iberians were actually welcoming their liberators in to their territory. Were the Iberians truly ignorant enough to not realize that Arabia was planning to attack them? Troops were approaching, and making camp, outside the cities of Toledo and Barcelona. I am sure their ignorance will be their downfall.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/iberanplaninaction.JPG
In the year 772, the Army of the Faithful struck against the godless Iberian city of Toledo. The spies had previously reported the presence of a Spear division defending the city, but when the troops arrived at the city gates, they discovered Musketmen defending the city. But Allah, bless his name, was on the side of His Holiness, and the Army of the Faithful. For they struck against the Mustket division until their muskets were silenced. A second division of Ansar Warriors struck against the Spearman unit in the city. In a seemingly miraculous victory, truly inspired by Allah, the city of Toledo was taken. There were many lame horses and deceased Ansar Warriors, but now His Holiness could begin the integration of Iberia.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/toledocaptured.JPG
In the year 775, the Army of the Faithful struck again, against the Iberian capital city of Barcelona, which was a cauldron of sin. The Iberian’s fought viciously. Their level of ferocity and tenacity not seen, in recent history, by the Army of the Faithful. His Holiness was wrought with anguish over the loss of three Arabian Swordsmen divisions. The Musketeers defending the city had truly shown their mettle, they had only lost one unit. There remained two defending musketeer divisions in Barcelona. Despite his desire to press the attack, Allah calmed the soul of his beloved, Sheik Coinich, and he restrained himself from continuing, until reinforcements could arrive.
In 780, during the Campaign against Iberia, the ambassador of the Russians came in audience before His Holiness, the most munificent and benevolent leader of the Arabians
The Russian peoples lived in lands quite far from the ever expanding borders of Arabia. The great Sheik showed great hospitality toward the Ambassador, allowing him to choose from the harem as well.
Soon enough, the rested ambassador found himself in audience again with His Holiness, to discuss matters of state between the two countries. Through negotiations, the following agreement was reached between the ambassador of Russia, and the one who possesses the wisdom of Allah himself:
Arabia Gives:
The science of Metallurgy
Russia Gives:
The science of Navigation
The science of Music Theory
1 Gold Piece
This move will help to greatly improve the world-wide scientific standing of Arabia.
In 783, during the campaign against Iberia, the impious drunkard of a French ambassador was granted audience before Coinich, beloved of Allah. I was unfortunate enough to be present at the verbal intercourse that transpired, which I shall summarize for you now.
The ambassador stood proud before His Holiness, such as I had never seen. The kind of pride that comes from feeling superior in all respects. I could see this in his eyes, but I would never interrupt the great Sheik during such a state event.
He proceeded to inform His Holiness that the Right of Passage agreement that existed between France and Arabia had “thankfully” expired, and the French government had absolutely no interest whatsoever in renewing the agreement. When the ambassador stormed out of the chambers, I could see that His Holiness was vexed with concern. A condition which I firmly echoed.
In the year 790, I have assumed the pen of Hassan, Great Scribe of Arabia, who has recently passed to that house, not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. My name is Abdul, and it is with pleasure that I assume the pen of Hassan, in documenting the events transpiring in the winter of life for His Holiness, Sheik Coinich al Fateh.
The most recent decade had not been kind for His Holiness. The stresses of daily management of an empire at war, had taken their toll on him. This condition was further exacerbated by the presence of French forces near the borders of Arabia. The ships, operating in our territorial waters, were still ever present, and there were Archers and Musketeers approaching near Hispalis. Forces that were deployed in offense for the Iberian campaign, were recalled toward Hispalis, to provide for defense, in the event of a French sneak attack.
Coinich Apr 14, 2005, 11:43 AM In the year 797 a messenger, from Germania, begged audience with His Holiness, who – being heavy with age, begrudgingly granted it:
The messenger, who appeared to be a pious young man, paid proper homage to the beloved of Allah. He brought forth the message, from King Frederick, that Germania, and the Dutch peoples, had signed a Mutual Protection Pact. His Holiness acknowledged the friendship of the Arabian peoples toward the Germans, and dismissed the messenger.
Almost immediately the reports started coming-in, from the outlying provinces, that the French armed forces, which had been probing around the perimeters of Arabian land, had begun to withdraw, and head off toward the east… toward Germania, and the Netherlands. Our contact with current events in the farther climes of the world are unable to confirm a conflict between Germania and the French, but perhaps Frederick was subtlety requesting assistance from the mighty forces of Arabia?
In 805, the attack against the last known Iberian city of Barcelona, had begun.
The assembled forces, encamped outside the city, which I personally had a chance to view, on behalf of His Holiness, were as follows:
Ansar Warrior Army
2 Cannon Divisions
6 Ansar Warrior Divisions
The Ansar Warrior Army slammed in to the city first, barely defeating the first of two defending Musketeer divisions. His Holiness became concerned regarding the outcome, and at what cost; however, Allah had spoken to him decades ago. He knew he must fulfill his duties to the eternal one. He agreed to continue the attack. Two Ansar Warrior units were deployed against the remaining Musketeer Division left defending Barcelona.
The first unit entered the city, and were ambushed, by the Musketeers. The Ansars were utterly defeated, with little damage done to the Muskteers. However, while the first division were sacrificing themselves to the cowardly Iberians, the second Ansar Warrior division attacked. The Musketeers managed to meet the attack, and successfully defend. A second Ansar warrior unit was lost. The third Ansar division was ordered to attack, and attack they did. As I write this today, I certify their performance in battle was valorous. They handsomely defeated the Musketeers, and gained control of the city. The decades long goal of His Holiness, as transmitted to him from the one true god, was finally realized. His Holiness, in remembrance of his goal, and legacy, ordered the city of Barcelona to be renamed Coinich. He also ordered the name of the city Toledo, to be renamed to al Fateh.
The order went out immediately, for a redeployment of the troops, which had congregated against the city of Coinich (Barcelona), to other border cities. Even in his late years, he had the protection of his beloved Arabia ever present in his troubled mind.
In the year 810, the end of an era had been reached. I write these words, with a tear streaked face, wearing the sackcloth of grief.
The beloved mouthpiece of Allah, the great and honorable Sheik Coinich al Fateh, Sheik of Arabia, passed to that house, not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. Over one hundred years old, he had realized his dream of expanding the influence of Arabia in the known world. A trusted sovereign, wise ruler, and benefactor for the people, his dynasty will live on, but he will be missed. He now joins Allah, in his ethereal kingdom. May he live forever, free of the maladies that had attacked him in the late winter of his life.
Thanks for the opportunity to play :hatsoff:

Bianezzi Apr 14, 2005, 12:30 PM Letter from Wullah Madir, Emir of the Glorious City of Hispalis to the Council of Elders in Mecca...
My dear Emirs, it is with pleasure that I see that our Greater Empire is expanding throughout al-Andalus (Iberia) with few protests from our Iberian Emirs. I think that even they can see their catholic brothers are not going to accept Islam in their lands without the force of arms.
A strange religion Catholicism is. While christians of all kind are permited to pray and practice within our Glorious Cities, our Islamic brothers are treated like animals by the followers of the Pope. Even so, this Christian sept has spread across the land, from the traitorous Roman to the misterious French. I heard that something called "Reform" is being started in Germany, though. We shall wait to see if this new sept is more civilized than the Catholics.
My true concerns, however, is that our great Emperor, Sheik Coinich al-Fateh, First of the Sheiks to Rule Arabia, has passed out without any descendants. I fear a great Civil War is coming, for even now our Sultans are start to fight for the Arabian throne.
I call for your help, O Wise Eldars, to settle this situation for the good of our beloved people.
In Allah,
Wullah Madir al-Hispalis

Sooooo, who's next? :mischief:
Darwin420 Apr 14, 2005, 08:49 PM Hakim Ibn Sayad Ibn Ali Bashir Ibn Al-Adib Al-Darwish, the Whirling Dervish from the Sahara, wishes it to be known that he carries papers certifying his lineage as the last remaining descendent of the line of the Al-Darwish Dynasty. He also wishes it to be known that he has spoken to the First God Allah and the Prophet Mohammed, out in the swirling desert sands. It is Allah's will that the Al-Darwish Dynasty succeed the great and honorable Sheik Coinich al Fateh.
-----
that's an "I got it", btw  :smoke: :worship:
Admiral Kutzov Apr 14, 2005, 09:09 PM Igor bin Idiot ibn von Kutzov, perhaps the most respected merchant in Mecca, ponders his civic duty. for many days his prayers go unanswered until the one god provides direction. A revelation comes. "When in doubt, speak the truth." Igor, although not a full blooded arab, became powerful as a merchant after many successful minor battles as a captain in the Roman campaigns. Indeed, pillage from the infidels provided the foundation of his business of arms trading. Prior to his retirement, Igor's bravery was recognized by his holiness and he served as a Major in the shiek's personal guard. On his deathbed, Sheik Coinich al Fateh sent a leather pouch with a parchment in it to Igor. The parchment detailed the birth right of Hakim Ibn Sayad Ibn Ali Bashir Ibn Al-Adib Al-Darwish, the Whirling Dervish from the Sahara. Apparently Sheik Coinich was quite active with the harem well into his 90's. Igor presents the document to the elders while surrounded by guards of his personal troop...
that's a go get'em darwin
Darwin420 Apr 15, 2005, 06:04 AM Being the Crowning Day of Dervish Hakim Ibn Sayad Ibn Ali Bashir Ibn Al-Adib Al-Darwish, as Sultan of the Holy Arabian Empire:
"By the Will of the First God Allah, I shall guide our Holy Empire to further glory! I have danced upon the Sands of Time and howled with the Winds of Change. Allah guides my hand, and shall guide our armies into the lands of the Unpious!
For a thousand and one years we have tolerated the blossoming weeds that are Christianity and Catholicism; for a thousand and one years we have let them live within our Glorious and Holy Empire (at a higher tax rate, but it is no more than heathens deserve); and by the Will and Love and Might of the First God Allah, we have come to accept them as that red-headed stepchild everyone can barely stand...
"But no more! Allah's Great Vision came to me out in the desert sands, and the Prophet spoke in my ear. Thus, I have made the journey from the barren lands of the Sahara to claim my birthright in the name of the First God Allah! By Allah's Good Name I will stamp out the vile cesspits of moral corruption and faithlessness. All shall come to love the Kind and Generous Allah, or they shall fear the wrath of Arabian steel and lead!"
-----
And so it has been written. Sultan Hakim Ibn Sayad Ibn Ali Bashir Ibn Al-Adib Al-Darwish is crowned as successor to Sheik Coinich al-Fateh.

(I'll get at least the first half of my turns done this afternoon and get a post up)
Whomp Apr 15, 2005, 10:13 AM And the crowd roared as Sultan Hakim Ibn Sayad Ibn Ali Bashir Ibn Al-Adib Al-Darwish spoke.
Little Danawi al-Fahl bin Fajer watched this great event with glee from his balcony perched high above the street. His great grandfather was a great martyr of this country. He hoped one day to follow in the footsteps of so many great leaders.
Darwin420 Apr 15, 2005, 02:39 PM Sultan Hakim traded with the Forsaken Ottomans to acquire a map of the Known World. This is what the Arab Scholars learned:

EDIT: my C3C just zonked out on me. I'm reinstalling now, but I won't be able to play until later tonight. So, updates will probably either late tonight, or sometime tomorrow.
Bianezzi Apr 15, 2005, 10:38 PM Well I don't want to be despotic, but the rules are clear that I am to appoint the next player.
It's ok for you to play Darwin, just try to be more patient next time.
Good luck as a Sultan
;)
Darwin420 Apr 17, 2005, 09:35 AM @Bianezzi: My most humblest apologies. I gathered from your post that it was a 'first come first grab' (in keeping with the spirit of the game). It shall not happen again.
Oh, and here's the first 10:
(01) 820AD:
In Glorious Mecca, the Heroic Epic is completed. Troops are consolidated in Iberia. We are but a decade away from establishing a Military Tradition. I am told our mounted warriors are learning new ways to wage war against the infidel, and shall soon coalesce into what they call "Cavalry."
(02) 830AD:
Our scholars and scientists now look at ways to improve revenue within the Empire. They tell me of a centralized system of currency, controlled by the state. Why should our cast coins be but the playthings of our citizens? We shall establish banks, and take back a portion of the money that is rightfully ours.
Construction begins on a Military Academy, where we shall train the Great Leaders of Arabia! Our armies will be mighty, and none shall stand in our way!
I have looked at our military, and determined that we are woefully obsolete. We live in an Age of Muskets and Cannons, yet many of our troops still fight with spears and maces. This cannot be allowed to last. I, Sultan Hakim, vow to upgrade the Holy Empire's military. If this be my only legacy, then so be it. We shall be strong, and we shall be victorious. The Infidels will never threaten us as long as we remain strong.
So I have spoken, and so it shall be done!
(03) 840AD:
The city of Al-Darwish has been constructed on the Mediterranean Cost of Northern Iberia, providing a stable overland route between Iberia and the Peninsula Ex Romana.
Improvements continue to be made to our armies. My advisors yell at me, for our treasury is bare these days, but I believe it is a wise decision to give the Arab Armies the tools they need. I hear them chant my name every time I pass inspection in the barracks of our Glorious Cities.
(04) 850AD:
Our shrewd trade negotiators have secured a deal with the vile English. They are providing us with 9gpt in exchange for our shoddiest silks! The fools!
(05) 860AD:
Not much has happened in the Empire. Consolidation and improvement of forces continues. I shall not risk our armies in war until such time that we stand with the best we have.
(06) 870AD:
Peace was made with the Spanish in exchange for updated world maps, and the City of Murcia. The Spaniards had no gold to offer, nor were they close to us in technology. Murcia lay nestled in the hills between Greece and Eastern France. There was no hope for the city to remain in our control for too long, so rather than allow one of the infidel nations to claim the city, we burned it to the ground.
(07) 880AD:
Our force of Cavalry is growing nicely. There is some grumbling about abandoning the ways of the Ansar Warriors, but once the troops receive their new rifles, most cease their complaints. Those who still complain shall be formed in the front of the battle formations!
(08) 890AD:
I am told by the officials at our Military Academy that our first pupil is coming along nicely. He shall be trained in all the arts of war and lead our people to glory and victory!
(09) 900AD:
I grow impatient in this new Century. The Iberian cities are still awash in corruption. Even those who are construction the Summer Palace in al-Bikr are stealing from me. Even the desert sands were not as difficult to handle as those Iberian subjects of mine.
(10) 910AD:
An English Man-O-War hangs off our coast. I have demanded Queen Elizabeth withdraw the ship at once. Surely the English cannot be so fool-hardy as to invade our homeland?
-----
All in all, things go well. Our military is being updated, and our science is coming along well. I'm just worried about an English sneak-attack to get our of the gpt deal. I didn't think they'd be able to mount anything so soon... but we have tons of troops who can smash an invasion, as well as invade England (now THAT would be quite a contest!). Maybe I should sign some MPPs??
-----
Whomp Apr 17, 2005, 10:04 AM I would avoid MPP's like the black plague. We don't want to fight everyone else's fight. A MA when the time comes is a much better option.
The 9 gpt is a drop in the bucket compared to the positive impact the silks have on the Queen's economy. It would be a huge mistake on her behalf. I say press on Hakim Ibn Sayad Ibn Ali Bashir Ibn Al-Adib Al-Darwish.
Darwin420 Apr 17, 2005, 10:34 AM (11) 920AD:
The Dutch have shared with us the knowledge of Physics and Economics, in exchange for a
world map and Military Tradition. It pained me to make the decision, but we must not lag
behind our enemies in technology. History will show if I made a mistake or not.
The English Man-O-War slips through the Straights of Lagos. It is not clear where they are
headed.
(12) 930AD:
The English have left our seas. Perhaps they seek to pillage Greece and the Ottoman
Empire?
(13) 940AD:
Nothing interesting happened.
(14) 950AD:
Soon our leader will be trained, and a new Army shall rise in Arabia. With this military
leader, we shall lay a new plague upon our enemies.
(15) 960AD:
Nothing interesting happened.
(16) 970AD:
The French and Germans have both begun something called Universal Suffrage...
(17) 980AD:
Very few still use spears in our armies, and fewer still follow the way of the Ansar. The
scholars tell me they are close to understanding something called "Gravity" and will be
proposing a Theory regarding it soon. It is beyond my understanding, but they say it will
launch us into a new Age! I do not know if I will be around to see it, but my successor
will.
(18) 990AD:
Thoughts of death consume me, these days. My reign has not been so glorious. Yes, the
soldiers cheer me for they carry new weapons of might and power, but I have failed at my
mission to bring the infidels to their knees. It is my hope that my successor will wage
the war I desired.
(19) 1000AD:
The new millenium dawns. The Military Academy graduates its first class, and they take the
name Hakim's Heroes to honor me. It is the most glory I have seen, looking back upon my
years as Sultan. The Heroes are even now boarding ship to travel to Iberia, there to
become an army of ferocity and courage. They are brave men, and shall fight well to spread
the name of the One True God, Allah!
(20) 1010AD:
Hakim's Heroes approach Iberia. We are but 4 turns of the wheel away from a new Age. Our troops are massed at the French border, waiting for the order to slaughter the vile French dogs. Our Empire is mighty, and needs a strong leader.
Who will succeed me? I have no true-born children, save one who is far beyond the desert dunes of the Sahara. Perhaps one day, the line of Al-Darwish will again rule Arabia, perhaps not. We shall see what Allah Wills.
Ahhh, darkness... I have waited for you, Allah! I come to join you now!! ...
-----
And so ends the reign of SULTAN HAKIM IBN SAYAD IBN ALI BASHIR IBN AL-ADIB AL-DARWISH.
-----
Darwin's Note: Man, my turns are always boring. Recovering from wars and such.. Good luck the the next ruler of Arabia. The Army is strong, and we are 4 turns away from the IA. We just might be able to pull ahead of the AI in research, if we're smart about it.
Bianezzi, if you wish I refrain from any further turns, I'll understand. I didn't mean to undermine your authority.
Good luck!
-----
Bianezzi Apr 18, 2005, 12:14 AM No problemmo, Darwin. The "first grab first play" rule may cause confusion when two players grab the game, etc. But anyway it was really nothing.
--------
Mecca, April 23rd of the Iberian Year of 1010 A.D. and the Islamic Year of 400 A.H., Ramadhan Time
General Ta'hat was walking nervously around the Ansar Palace. The enormous, finely decorated palace which once was the home of the Ansar Holy Warriors and their Blessed Generals was to be replaced by a more modern, functional building in central Mecca. This was one of the signs that things were changing in the Empire. The other was that the Emperor was dead.
Sultan Hakim was best remembered as the great entrepeneur, an Emperor with a vision of the future. His dream of a modern Arabia hadn't met a good reaction in the streets, specially among the more religious, although the Sultan was a very religious man himself. He completed the change of power in Arabia, from the fanatic Ansar and their blind obedience to their Sultans, which made them specially prone to rebellion against the Emperor, to a disciplined class of Generals who were not only fully comitted to the Emperor, but more than that, fully comitted to Arabia, even more than to Allah Himself.
Ta'hat was one of these. Known as the best student at the Military Academy, he spent years traveling through the Empire and beyond, meeting English ambassadors in distant London, fencing Russian officers for his honor, engaging in torrid romances with French noble-girls. His reputation of a wise general met with that of a bon vivant, and both gained the respect and afection of the Arab Army. And by that time, if you had the respect of the powerful Arab Army's officers, you had the power to become the nation's leader, you had everything. Or almost everything.
The problem with Ta'hat was that, first, he wasn't religious at all. In fact, most of his acts would be seen as even herectical, IF they were discovered. Second, he wasn't Emperor! He wasn't closely related to any of the previous dinasties, he wasn't even noble!
The Council of Elders finally came to a conclusion. Because of his great Intelligence and Charisma among the Arab people and officers, General Ta'hat was to rule as Appointed Vizier of the Arab Empire and Grand General of the Arab Army, and because of the need of a religious leader Caliph Muttah, Ta'hat's assumed enemy, would rule as the Religious Leader of the Holy Islamic Arab Empire.
A week after the Council's decision Muttah was found dead in his room. The murderer, a young soldier called Augustus, refused to say the reasons of the crime. The next day he was sentenced by the General himself to public death by being immersed in a hot oil well.

Can you send the save Darwin? I'd like to play for a couple of turns then I'll set a roster.
Hey Whomp, do you want to play again after me?
Bianezzi Apr 18, 2005, 12:17 AM Hey guys, I found a really interesting list of Islamic terms in Arabic here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Islamic_terms_in_Arabic).
soul_warrior Apr 18, 2005, 07:37 AM the general Ta'hat has chosen, not so wisely, some of his subordinates say, to use augustus as his scapegoat.
little did he know that Augustus was hugely popular with the lower ranks, the common soldiers. Augustus was a fanatically loyal soldier, he would have died willingly for his empire.
it is a shame that the noble arabian empire was ruled by zealots and madmen, men that would not believe all men are equal under the one god Allah.
Augustus shall probably by trialed within a week and executed promptly, as to his dying moment he remains a loyal member of Ta'hat's retinue, believing that to holy men's regime and absolut power must decline, so the power of Allah be again shared with ALL people.
as his dying will, augustus, the desendant of the mighty Seymour, treated always as a pariah, a forigner, a lower person not worthy to be called an Arab, worte a secret manifesto, a history of the people if you will.
this history cannot be true history in the classical way. it is the history of the peoples of the earth, of thier equality before Allah.
the book, some people even call it "the new Koran", has become very popular with the working classes, with the common people.
a new movement arises within the people, an anti clerical, pro religious cult, if you will.
this secret society, for now they can only deal and meet in secret, is called the AUGUSTANS.
as Augustus walks toward his death, he is calm, knowing that he has helped the people of Arabia avoid a fall back into the ancient barbarous ways. maybe his succsesor shall be able to free the people.
this lowly warrior begs a chance to save the people form eternal torment by the corrupt priests and free Arabia, free the world!!!

soul_warrior Apr 20, 2005, 03:12 PM the people have heard of the execution of the heroic Augustus and are mournful.
but unknown to any of the official rulers, a student has laid his hands on original copies of Augustus's work and was captivated by the truth of these words.
the student, wisely, remains anonynous, while spreading the word of a new way of thinking. he also has another virtue that Augustus sadly lacked. Patience.
if it wont be him, it will be his son, or his grandson, that will start the revolution.
Whomp Apr 20, 2005, 03:53 PM Danawi al-Fahl bin Fajer rose to power beyond anyone's expectations for a 29 year old man. He was a man beyond his years. Danawi, like his grandfathter, was charismatic by nature and educated by some of the greatest scholars of Mecca, Istanbul and Berlin. This worldly young man learned much about other cultures things his people simply could not comprehend. He also learned you keep your friend's close and your enemies closer.
I got it.
Whomp Apr 21, 2005, 02:55 PM Fajer Danawi al-Fahl bin Fajer had made many friends throughout the world. These were things that came with privilege. He traveled extensively and was educated throughout the known world. He knew a new age would bring another different kind of war. Economic. With proper teaching by some of the greatest scholars known to man, Fajer learned the power of economics. He also learned that personal connections good or bad could be very powerful. This is the story of both his life and a mysterious disappearance.
As Danawi al-Fahl bin Fajer came into power there was much to do on the economic front. He brought together the council of Elders and they discussed the countries needs. Fajer was quite a persuasive man and had the full backing of the elders. He immediately went to work. He requested banks, harbors and markets for all the great cities. He reviewed many of the trade agreements with other nations. He dispatched a messenger to let the English know that the gems they have been sending were not quite up to the standards our own people in Iberia were producing. Elizabeth was none to happy when her 24 gpt, furs and gems in exchange for our wines and ivory was cancelled. This was the economic war Fajer was looking for. Danawi was not particularly fond of the English for they had a MPP deal with the dastardly drunken French.
1010 Furs were not a major concern as Fajer’s classmate who was from Kobnhagen Axel Carlsberg was a wealthy fur trader. Fajer and Carlsberg discussed their many romps through the Stroget and Christianshavn but eventually they got down to business. "Your furs for our horses. Deal? Good done". With this deal Fajer was able to reduce the entertainment budget to zero and raise the science budget to 90%. They said this would would shorten the understanding of gravity by 10 years. Danawi al-Fahl bin Fajer knew this was desperately needed to keep up with the two world powers, the slovenly and evil French and good friends, the Germans.
1013 (IBT) A international incident almost occurs when the French accuse us of spying. Although they caught our spy red handed, who saw a rifleman, we left their country claiming it was a mistake. My apologies (…drunken sop). I was not aware of this. The Ansar spy lost his head for not being careful.
1020 al-Fahl was what old friend Cecilius Ezelenbok from Amsterdam called Danawi. Ezelenbok was the new ambassdor from The Netherlands. Danawi made sure his good friend was well taken care of in Mecca. The Arabs agreed to establish this embassy for 76g.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/arab1.JPG
Danawi had ulterior motives behind this embassy. First the art of espionage would become more important in the next era and second the Dutch and Germans would likely be asked to ally with the Arabs if there was or more like when a conflict with the infidels, the French started. Each country of these countries had a border with France.
A few years later Fajer’s old friend Rolf Hefeweizen in Munich asked if the ivory the English used to receive was available for trade. Rolf could make a small fortune selling this in his country. After a difficult round of negotiations the negotiator Fajer traded ivory for 22 gpt. The theory of gravity was near completion. Fajer had heard of great things of a new technology that could harness energy and increase commerce across the country. His prayers to Allah gave visions of a type of black gold near a tower….this was all very confusing to Fajer.
1025( IBT) The great country was entering another era of greatness. They called this one the industrial revolution. Fajer frantically worked to find deals he could construct. He visited with his fellow classmate Onan Khanh the pasha of a great province in the Ottoman empire and they discussed opportunities. Onan was privy to the great work detailing a new system of government. As they sat in Onan’s beautiful kiosk they came to terms. The theory of gravity and Military Tradition for Democracy and the 22g the Ottomans had. The deal was lobsided however Fajer knew that the Ottomans who immediately gained knowledge of Nationalism would lower the cost of such information. Fajer did the same with his backward yet humorous friend Igoryok Stolikutzov. He told Igoryok to keep it under his hat but Fajer would gift this information to the Russians. The Russians learned Nationalism. The Germans and French already knew this information. They also knew a technology called steam power. The French and Germans were very closed lipped about this. Not even Rolf Hefeweizen could get him the information. It was simply not possible to learn more. Fajer continued to have his unusual feelings when he prayed….”black gold, black gold…tower....what could it be”?
1030 Fajer renewed a deal for Rolf Hefeweizen, (the new German trade minister thanks to his friendship with Fajer) regarding the silks for 11gpt. Fajer felt what comes around goes around and lowered the price to 9gpt. Fajer had discussed this with his council and they put it to a vote a new technique Fajer learned from his friend Onan. The council did not want to disturb the price and their was definite consternation in the room about the deal. The council was also feeling more powerful with this thing called voting. Fajer may have made a mistake but the underlying impact was significant.
Whomp Apr 21, 2005, 03:22 PM 1040 Fajer puts 100% of the budget towards harnessing this great power that comes from steam.
Fajer decided to finally meet with his schoolmate Daphnis Saganaki, Greece's ambassador to Russia. Daphnis was not a close friend of Fajer’s because Daphnis had taken money out of Fajer’s room at school. Fajer felt that he needed to gift the Greek people information as well. “Daphnis..take these gifts of Theory of Gravity and Military Tradition”. I give them to you because as a thief you would likely take them from our great country anyhow”.
Daphnis was embarrassed by these comments but greedy as he was knew it could mean great things in his country. He would make Faher pay for this embarrassment some day. He laughed under his breath years later when he found his country knew of a black gold that Fajer did not have. He would relay this information to his friend Pierre Medoc the drunkard French vintner. Medoc waved his hands at Daphnis and said “What should we care of these people? They drink a peasant wine. Now let’s drink a fine 1010 bordeaux my friend”. The French may rue the day that this information was not passed on.
1055 (IBT) Fajer raises the price of the silks they were selling to the English well beyond market price. This due in part to their assocation with French, a Man o War near Mecca and they're foolishness pretending the pirate ship is not theirs.
1065 IBT The galleon FS Gingerocks is heavily damaged by the said pirate ship but survives and the crew is elevated to elite status. The English women start a thing called Universal Sufferage. This will never ever happen in the Arab world. Fajer thinks testing this voting thing with his council is a difficult task but women? Never!
The later years Fajer’s tenure was focused on staying in country and concentrating on infrastructure till this technology called steam power would be developed. He was anxiously anticipating running these powerful machines.
1100 A very strange year indeed. The whole country heard of this great new technology that was developed and they were very excited. The potential to travel from Baghdad to Mecca in hours was very exciting prospect. However there remained one major obstacle. The black gold Allah presented to Fajer was a resource called coal. The tower was in Pisae. Pisae was in France. Danawi was besides himself. He needed to think.
He hailed the great seaman Igor bin Idiot ibn von Kutzov to take him to a faraway place. Danawi needed a break. This new era was taking a toll with its continuous rapid pace. It also sealed Danawi’s fate. It was believed that spies from France caught wind of this trip. Mysteriously the great tragedy occurred when the ships headed towards the Greek islands Danawi, his ship, its escort and also of note great Celtic musician Jim Morrison, mysteriously disappeared. Foul play is believed to have occurred. Rumors abound that is was a collaboration between the French and Greeks. There are many questions, answers and consequences to come.
With that we end the chapters of the great builder and leader into the industrial age Danawi al-Fahl bin Fajer.
I will post a save in a little bit.
Admiral Kutzov Apr 21, 2005, 03:56 PM :rotfl: Rumors of a man named Jed, a poor mountineer who barely kept his family fed are reported from our agents in France. It seems that one day, Jed was shootin at some food, when breaking from the ground came a burning black rock. Coal it was; black gold, the key to steam power. Sir Drysdale, a nefarious english banker, was the first to recoginize the potential of the new resource and promptly siphoned off much of Jed's new wealth.
Whomp Apr 21, 2005, 04:27 PM  "Pe-zai tea they say..."
BTW Ellie Mae over Ginger and Maryann.
Darwin420 Apr 22, 2005, 06:02 AM Nice turns. At least I'm not the only one who doesn't get to wage war! :))
soul_warrior Apr 22, 2005, 07:30 AM Nasser Ibn Allah, was sitting in his office when word of Fajer Danawi al-Fahl bin Fajer's "disappearance" was anounced. Nasser was seen to be beside himslef with rage, at once accusuing the french and thier evil allies the greeks. all in the room felt it was a foul day for the empire. the loss of such a visionary shall be felt for many years to come.
one member of Nasser's retinue suggested that a new leader for the people is needed, and who better than the great boss himself?
Nasser reluctantly agreed, having waited many years for his chance to seize power. I shall become supreme ruler of all Arabs. a new dawn is upon us.
but what to do with this black gold? how to acquire it? summoning the great philosopher Alim Baarakat Fana (also known as the blessed extinction, for his view on the world's people's) and asked him to find him an answer.
pondering the dilema for almost 30 minutes, Baarakat finally replies: "as supreme among humanity, ALL natural resources, especially those that emanate from the land, are blessed by Allah, and were put there for his followers to use. these many years have seen a weakening of the noble arab seed by intermarriages, weak teachers, the adoption of wine and beer as opposed to Allah's decries. the black gold which lies right across the border is a sure sign of Allah's displeasure with us. we must abandon these new ways and return to the simple, old beliefs. to do that we must first clease the body of Arabia. we must take up arms and take what is ours from the evil french."
thinking of this Hassan sees truth in the teachers words. but how o do that? we are not yet ready to strike at the french. we shall bide our time for now, but in a few years, the gold shall be ours.
thats a "we get to get some action soon"
Whomp Apr 22, 2005, 10:02 AM Many diplomats have whispered that they believe Danawi al-Fahl bin Fajer and Jim Morrison may be have been kidnapped and are somewhere in France.
The generals request a war map of the Pisae area to see these great resources that emanate from the land and are blessed by Allah.
Darwin420 Apr 22, 2005, 01:13 PM And from the deserts of the South come strange, chanting voices:
war ... war ... war ... war ... war ... war ... ...
soul_warrior Apr 23, 2005, 06:33 AM Nasser ibn Allah is right now in his field tent, planning for what must be done.
how to accomplish this is a wholy different matter. upon reflection the generals he has assembled agree - we are weak. we have neglected our birthright for many years and need more troops to defeat the unholy french.
the holy scholars have assured him that it is but a few years till we must have the black gold, but only with keeping their fat salaries.
nonsense thinks Hassan, we can cut down thier budget, allowing us to build up the armies of Allah.
this talk of revolution that is spreading throughout the Emirate must also be adressed. WITH FORCE. we cannot allow discontent to spread like wildfire.
all of these have resulted in the NEW CONSTITUTION, some of which is bring to you herewith,
1-all arabs must serve a minimal period of 4 years in the military.
2-all malcontents and outspoken opposition to the holy regime are banned.
3-the punishment for opposing the regime is either imprisonment for life or a 10 year enlistment in the infantry regiments.
4-all income is to be taxed, 3 parts in 10, as war levy. these funds shall be used to support the army.
5-all scholars will donate thier salary to build great temples for Allah, all within the county of Piss Allah and Rye Umms. as these counties have not yet embraced Allah, the funds shall be kept in a special trust, Hassan's.
6-criticism of any of the following is considered opposition, see section 3.
7-this constitution is an emergency measure only, and as such shall be only temporary till we arabs secure OUR black gold.
following the formulation of the new law, Hassan sits down and begins planning the liberation of the now french counties.
after long deliberations he comes up with this simple plan.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/arabinvation_sw_4.jpg
we shall use a classic 2 prong attack pattern, one from Veii, which will be reinforced with cannon and infantry. its goal is simple, take and hold Piss Allah (as it is to be renamed upon being freed), a second prong, which will be manned by our best offensive troops shall take Rye Umms and march to meet what remains of the red prongs reserves in a crushing blow to the french sity of Oral Sans. in that city will be built a grand monastery where we shall "deal" with resistors.
the last french outpost in the Iberian lands shall be assaulted by our AC's, Ansars and MDI's.
a call has been sent for people willing to settle the new lands. many rewards were promised to those, among which is exemption from taxes AND military service, the best schools in arabia, and a temple in each quarter.
having worked many months for this plan, Hassan presents it to the holy one and his council.
does he get the proper approval rates?
the reckoning of our army concludes we have a strong army :D
22 musket divisions, 18 cavalry regiments and 10 cannon brigades. older and obsolete troops are also plentiful, manned by malcontents mostly. these include 5 a medieval infanties, 8 Ancient and now sadly weakened cavaly and 5 of our oldest Ansar warriors.
the cannons shall be moved to Veii to support RED ARM, along with fully 10 muskets and some cavalry (8 regiments)
BLUE arm shall consist of ALL obsolete troops with a core of our elite cavalry.
the losses expected are haevy so we shall cut down the budget for learning, focousing on propaganda so more brave souls shall enllist in the army.
the inner lands shall be left with only token garrisons.
---------
i cant play today, but will most assuredly play tomorow.
comments on the plan?
Whomp Apr 23, 2005, 01:12 PM A new settlement is highly recommended on the gold spot west of P-Allah since neither black gold areas will be within the P-Allah border. This will allow our great workforce the capability to make railroads.
Be careful for there are rifles in most surrounding cities. Fortunately you have many mountains that will make it very difficult for Napoleon's cavalry to counterattack. "Allah willing" many great leaders will come with our great struggle.
soul_warrior Apr 25, 2005, 01:20 PM the tales of Nasser Ibn Allah are wild and exciting. alas i, his humble chronicler, have suffered, as the common folk will, a dire situation. it is called AfterHolidayDinnerLaziness.
i have only recently become well again, being able to walk, think, even breathe.
i shall finish examining the notes soon, and hopefully get you the "concise and true adventures of Nassar Ibn Allah the blessed" directly. (I.E> tommorow)
[offtopic] just got the new JAZZTRONIK album. its called SAMURAI. i highly recommend it!! get a quick listen here (http://www.tunes.co.uk/tunes/featured/9971.html) especially pay attention to the title track
Bianezzi Apr 25, 2005, 11:54 PM This morning would be crucial for Vizir Salim, the Chief Diplomat for Christian Affairs of the Arab Empire. After meeting with the Dutch, he was expecting the German ambassador, Mr. Klaus Wagner for a talk about the situation in Central Europe.
"Good morning, Your Highness. How's the Emperor?" saluted the German
"Very well. He's with our generals right now, talking about the plan I mentioned with you"
"Oh, the plan. The Pisae Plan. See, although we'd love to see those damned French crushed under our armies, we cannot..."
"You can, Mr. Ambassador. Bismarck gave us his word, and William's in for the fight too." the Vizir was calm but firm
"But it's not only Napoleon, my dear Vizir! Elizabeth's with him, and the whole Europe fear his power!"
"Just like they feared Rome? Or maybe the Iberians? We brought these people to our knees, Mr. Ambassador. Even now most of our Generals don't want to the extend the war to Paris; we're being... merciful. We just want the strategic resources that will ensure our very survival as a nation through this era of political agitation and religious unrest. For the first time in our history, we're not going to a Jihad. We're fighting for our survival as an Empire, not as Allah's sons"
The German ambassador was scared. He expected the Pisae Plan to be just another utopian adventure from a bored General the Emperor would never carry it out. But it was happening.
After some discussion, he was ready to leave the building back to Berlin. He then looked back.
"Allah is becoming an expensive master, isn't He, my dear Vizir?"

TO: His Merciful Majesty, the Emperor

I met the German representant. Things are still difficult. My advice: take Pisae and secure the surrounding area. Take Chartres. Don't hear your Generals, make this a quick and clean war. We won't be able to resist for long.

Bianezzi Apr 26, 2005, 12:01 AM Hey, this will be the Black Wars!
:)
Whomp Apr 26, 2005, 09:37 AM Yes yes "The Black Wars"!! The Black Wars have so many underlying meanings. Evil, angry, dirty, hopeless, dark and most important gold!
soul_warrior Apr 26, 2005, 02:12 PM it it with a heavy heart that i write this diary. here these words for they are harbingers of doom, as well as the words written by a dead man.
the most noteable general Nasser Ibn Allah so writes.
it was the summer of the year 1100 that i began having visions of black gold within our natural borders, but i had thought it was a folly, what would we, the blessed of Allah, need black stones for?
it was later, that rumors of FTH (Faster Than Horse) vehicle began being seen within the french colonies.
Blasphemers, i thought, and decided to strike at this abomination and deny the french thier idiocy.
in order to accomplish this goal i have fired a few scientists, to make way for a larger, more powerful army. the french were notorious for thier defensive capabilities, and i had no wish to send thousands of our faithful to be slaughtered.
i have also started a barracks in the front line cities as to better train our warrior.
it took some time and 10 years before the advent of Industrialisation, in 1190 a heroic spy was sent into the city of Piss Allah.
here is his report.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/arabsinv_sw_pisae1190.jpg
the reports overwhelmed me. such a powerful army calls for a different startegy.
i decided to fire ALL scholars, aiming at a a budget that would allow us to hurry up many cavalry and cannon brigades,
in a further effort to avoid alliances against us, as the french must have vile plans for this army, i signed a deal with the queen of england, selling her some wine for 6gpt.
we had a few more peaceful years in which i hurried a few battalions and rushed them to thier staging points.
and in 1230 the treacherous french declare war upon us.
at first the people rejoiced at such a welcome war, throwing wild parties, but then the reports stared to rush in.
the city of Veii has fallen. and all the defenders slaughtered.
our troops which were at the border patroling, tried thier best, but failed to relieve Veii, and only narrowly saved Cumae.
one valorous general, Habib El-Allah, rallied forth what remained of the cavalry and charged in a last hope attack on PissAllah, managing to take it from the infidels.
that is when it really bagan to get ugly, as legions upon legions of french swarmed over the country, leaving none alive.
in 1240 we have tried to bring in some allies, but only managed to bring in the greeks, for the heavenly price of Industrialisation, 525g and ivory.
the Germans and Dutch, have both, seeing the news reels, decided not to enter this war, but in view of our past signed an Embargo against the french.
an embassy was also opened in moscow, so we might lure the in.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/arabsinv_sw_moscow1240.JPG
if until now you thought that it was bad, youi have never heard of the summer of 1240
within 3 bitter months of fighting almost our entire eastern force was destroyed.
the only good news, if such could be called good, was that the battle of CHarters was going, relatively well. we lost few troops, and the local garrisons were almost completely wiped out.
here are some situation maps for the west
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/arabsinv_sw_west1250.JPG
and the eastern front
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/arabsinv_sw_east1250.JPG
it is here within my prison cell, awaiting my well deserned execution, that i leave my last will and testament. let him who inherits my unlucky duty, be more devout in his prayers. Allah knows that the troops out there shall need them. :suicide: (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/Nassers_shame_1250ad.SAV)
Whomp Apr 26, 2005, 02:22 PM ....:wow:....Black Death!
Bianezzi Apr 26, 2005, 02:51 PM Quite expected, though.
The French are superior, and they have Infantry while we are hurrying after Rifleman.
If you don't wish to play your turn anymore or it has come to an end, just post the save and I'll play it, Soul_Warrior.
I'll do my best to try a peace agreement or an alliance with the german and dutch. That's our only hope, I'm afraid.
soul_warrior Apr 26, 2005, 07:10 PM the save is posted, just look for the suicide signal at the end.
i REALLY regret having blown it, but not giving up yet,
hope you can do better than me, as i would HATE this to become my FIRST SG loss.
[edit] i played 15 turns. thought after such "wonderful" war turns i would pass it on to someone more capable.
Admiral Kutzov Apr 26, 2005, 08:23 PM i would HATE this to become my FIRST SG loss.
welcome to the twilight zone. see tomo 2
What hurts on this SG is no southern med landmass. If'in we'uns (yes, Igor and I are semi literate) had tunisia and the rest, we'd be sweet. Maybe this on on the RoR map? IMIO (in my idiot opinion), this got waylaid when we got out of Rep the first time... BTW - Joanie is hot in the metal stuff...
soul_warrior Apr 27, 2005, 04:43 AM welcome to the twilight zone. see tomo 2

joanie is hot, but Lizzie is scorching.
well, maybe for a rematch we could take Cathrine the ugly, and go after joanie from the other side. call it a catfight :D
Bianezzi Apr 27, 2005, 03:17 PM Still, this is kinda historical so far.
The Arabs did tried to reach France in the 13rd century but we're defeated in the battle of Toujours.
It's ok, we won't lose the game. We may lose some positions in Italy, but we'll have another chance to expand after we have a Peace Agreement. The Celts are still vulnerable, and so are the Greeks.
don't worry.
Darwin420 Apr 28, 2005, 06:28 AM I say let's prep to take Brittania. While we do so, keep consolidating and expanding our forces in Italy and Iberia, that way, when the time comes, we will have a large fleet in Britain, with a good sized army, and a large army on the mainland. Take both these armies and hit little Joanie where it hurts.
The current war is a setback, but the Faithful cannot be defeated so easily.
Hawklord Apr 28, 2005, 08:53 AM We need to consolodate our gains so far. The operation against France was ill conceived and too soon. We need better tech to take them on. It will probably cost us to get peace now :( We should spend some time encouraging our scientists and trade with other nations for tech. While building up our armies to stomp the French later :)
soul_warrior Apr 28, 2005, 11:07 AM We need to consolodate our gains so far. The operation against France was ill conceived and too soon.
i agree, but one must remmember the old saying - turn the other cheek. Oops, wrong quote, try this, Do it onto them, before they do it onto thee.
well, Joanie did just that.
We need better tech to take them on. It will probably cost us to get peace now :( We should spend some time encouraging our scientists and trade with other nations for tech. While building up our armies to stomp the French later :)
Jamal Al Qazar, the only survvivor of the 3rd cavalry regiment would agree. his father, the renowned scholar Yousuf Al Qazar, has advocated for many years the need to lay down the quest for military might and consentrate on knowledge, the true power.
Jamal, after his ordeal has evolved his fathers ideal. he realises that the empire has neglected for too many years to invest in schools. now is the era of the merchant, the trader and the spy.
he would invest ALL but a token school in the economy, using the might of Arabia to take via the new means of war, what is rightfully ours.
when the time is right, revenge WILL be ours.

keep a single beakerhead for some sci, and use the rest of the money to buy our way back in.
Admiral Kutzov Apr 28, 2005, 07:33 PM An old man, with one eye, followed by a drooling hunchback carrying a really stacked female wearing very non-chaste clothing, bleeding from what appear to be edged weapon wounds to the head, stumbles out of the desert, mumbles something about allah taking care of fools and drunkards, and promptly passes out. His last whisper was "the republic..."
BTW - did someone mention boats?
soul_warrior May 01, 2005, 07:59 AM BTW - did someone mention boats?
nope :D
but i think we have enough.
ok... we can NEVER have enough, but lets just add a few.
and a reminder - we have embargoes on france with Lizzie and Willie, and an MA with Alex.
not that we need care about our rep. as we cant sustain 20 turns of war anyhow.
seeing a drunkard in the middle of the desert did seem weird to Abu ibn Abu. but then again, he was always a strange boy, having dreams about an Arabia where all men were created equal and could influence the fate of the land.
mind you, he was strange, not crazy. his diaries reveal to the acute eye, that by saying "All men" he really meant "All ARAB blooded, Landed, Wealthy MEN (no women could possibly be allowed to vote, right? see how much trouble just one woman caused us!).
what shall we call this regime? thinks Abu Ibn Abu. and the drunkard blurps "the republic...."
Bianezzi May 01, 2005, 12:27 PM Yea I'll play a couple of turns today and report it back.
Let's see if we can hold the French for a little time before we get the peace.

so, seriously... what's up? I am anxious to see what happens next to the Empire...
Bianezzi May 04, 2005, 10:33 PM Actually I'm from Sicily, so I'm not entirely Roman, but still...
I'm playing!
Will report in a few minutes...
Bianezzi May 05, 2005, 12:26 AM Chaos. Utter chaos. As soon as Northern Italy fell to the French, accusations from institutions like the Council of Sheiks, the Emirate and the Iberian Sultans began to arrive at the Emperor's desk. A few weeks later, the Empire was no more. Sultan Nasser was deposed and a military Junta of the nation's best generals was formed. Named the "Saraya", meaning "courthouse" in Arab, this new Council was formed by the officers, great religious leaders and some of the new entrepeneurs of the former Arab Empire. Ahead of the Saraya was General Murad, and old veteran from the Ansar era who quickly got used to the new cavalry-cannon tactics.
The situation was troublesome. Rich Italy was being crushed under Napoleon, and city after city they arrived at Rome. An underground resistance is being prepared, but there's little hope for the Moslem Romans.
Murad's cunning diplomatic abilities could help the war effort. Arab diplomats, in a gigantic tour around Europe, were able to draw other nations into the conflict. The Netherlands, Germany, Greece, Russia and England are at war with the French right now. Napoleon's imperialistic ways have awakened the wrath of our fellow european friends.
Meanwhile in Iberia, Murad's troops were advancing. New frigates were produced in the southern harbours and the sea war was favourable to the Arabs thanks to a succesful war effort by the sailors and captains of the Arab Armada. No French ship ever crossed the Lagos Strait. In the French city of Chartres, northern Iberia, and old Arab dream was to become true: to conquer this rich city and be sole sovereign over Iberia. This was done by General Murad's troops, who laid a quick siege of cannons and musketman and then attacked the city's gates at night, effectively conquering Chartres.
The success also made the General step back from his Chairman position within the Saraya, leaving the Emirs with the difficult question of who's going to take his place.
-----------------
Sorry guys, no picture.
Northern Italy speaks French. In Rome the children are beggining to learn French in the schools; Napoleon's at the door.
Chartres is taken, so Iberia is ours. The French are sending isolated infantry units to Iberia and massive cavalry to Italy; the rest of their troops must be busy elsewhere in Europe.
Soooooo, who wants a good ol' challenge?
Darwin420 May 05, 2005, 07:28 AM Can't believe we're losing the Roman provinces.. those were some of our earliest victories.
Good job in securing the alliances against the French, though. I think if we were forced to fight them ourselves, we'd have been isolated to Africa before long.
Who's up?
Bianezzi May 05, 2005, 02:14 PM Well I'd be glad if we could hold at least South Italy, but this is a very optimistic view.
Iberia is quite secured, though.
Darwin420 May 05, 2005, 05:38 PM At least there's that.. We should sue for peace, build up our armies again, let the AI draw France away from us and kill their units, then strike back with a Holy Vengeance after 20 turns. (then again.. how's our rep doing?)
Admiral Kutzov May 05, 2005, 07:30 PM (then again.. how's our rep doing?)less than zero
viper275 May 05, 2005, 09:08 PM I looked at this and... it'll be tough if possible to win. Rush units and defend what you have until you can get peace. France just seems way to strong right now (Paris is size 28!) Also, most civs besides France are weak compared to you. Perhaps you could land in one of them (a landing at Pharsalos to attack Greece would be good, partly because they don't have infantry yet).
Also, you might want to consider changing your capital. Most of your cities are terribly corrupt because they are so far from Mecca.
Darwin420 May 06, 2005, 06:56 AM We should've invaded England and Celtia...
Darwin420 May 08, 2005, 07:50 AM Ummm... is anyone out there??

it would be a great priviledge to teach you the ancient religion of the Assasins, also known as Hashashin. but then you would have to renounce all your worldly goods and join the french legion. or even worse - make you sieze power for the cult, giving the entire world a good-time.
POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!
down with the oppressors!!!!

Admiral Kutzov May 09, 2005, 05:35 PM An old worn trading boat, crewed by a drooling old man with several head scars from various edged weapons and a hunchbacked (or vertically challenged for the PC in the audience) Igor sails into Mecca with a cargo of death if it is found. Concealed with several layers of camoflage, deep within the hold, is a cargo of white lighting from the new world. The captain also conceals a platinum idiot card to distribute to the soul warrior who speaks many strange words... :rotfl:
The loss of our trading reputation seriously hindered our progress.
Darwin420 May 09, 2005, 07:52 PM I'm soooo confused...
Where is our fearless leader, Bianezzi, to enlighten us as to the decision of the Council of Elders?
Win or lose, this SG is fun, and I don't want to give up on it now.
Hawklord May 26, 2005, 06:33 PM I think Bianezzi has been assassinated by a rival faction as he has not been heard of for a long time. Maybe someone else should take over the leadership and fill the power vacuum. Vote now ;)
soul_warrior May 26, 2005, 07:20 PM i think this thread is dead, zed.
why not join one of my on going SG's?
feel free mate.
soul_warrior May 26, 2005, 07:25 PM it has been many years since the fearless one has assumed power.
it is time we kick this off, big time
i shall take on the leadeership of the sinking ship,

Darwin420 Jun 01, 2005, 09:27 AM If you haven't taken it by tonight, I'm going to give it a go after I put my kid in bed. Let's see how salvageable this is.
soul_warrior Jun 01, 2005, 02:20 PM thanks Darwin, just got a new tattoo done and im stone cold numb.
cant play it today, or even tomorow.
Darwin420 Jun 01, 2005, 07:42 PM Consider this an "I got it" (now, let's see if I can hold on to whatever po' azz sitiation we in, yo.
Darwin420 Jun 01, 2005, 10:42 PM EDIT: Attached the save. Oopsie. :crazyeye:
Out of the desert appears a wild-man. Whispers in the streets call him a Whirling Dervish. He is known only as Darwish. He enters the Palace of Mecca, and shortly thereafter proclaimed Sultan over the Arabian Empire...
Can he stop the French hordes? Was he sent by Allah to aid the Faithful in their time of need?
(NOTE: My notes are done without much story telling. It's late and I'm pooped. Also, for some reasons, my pictures won't post. Will try to figure out tomorrow.)
(01) 1275
Shifted troops. Tried to get Nationalism. No go. France powerful as hell. trying to consolidate to keep what we have. not sure a push into france will work. Italy is probably lost.
IBT: Ancient Cavalry in Rome fights off Modern Cavalry!! A-Ra!!!
Massive French army moves on Chartres. Captures worker (d'oh!)
(02) 1280
Sea battle off coast of Lisbona. We lose 1 Frigate, French lose 1.
IBT: I thought the AI didn't attack armies?? Our Cav army from Chartres is decimated by French forces during a siege... I thought the muskets would protect first??? AAAGH!!!
Lone musketman in Portus fights off 2 Cavs (redlines).
(03) 1285
More losses, but some gains. We're able to kill some Infantry, at least.
IBT: France kills several of our very valuable frigates.
(04) 1290
Taking a chance. One of our Cav armies is pillaging French territory. I'm cautious and wary because the AI attacked an Army before, but so far they have been left alone. If we can kill the production centers, France may yet fall before the Chosen!!
IBT: French troops swarm a defensive position and kill a couple cav, and take possession of a few cannon. We'll have them back, but those murderous dogs are a pain in my...
(05) 1295
We defeat a small French army and take possession of a cannon. Can't protect it, so we blow it up! (better to lose it than to let the enemy have it)
IBT: Celts declare war on Russians!!
(06) 1300
More pillaging. Kill French GUERILLA (yikes!), capture another cannon. Prepping assault force for Rheims. It will be bloody, it will be savage, but I so desire to see French cities BURN!!!
IBT: Al-Croditae RAZED by the foul French dogs!!
(07) - 1305
Troop movement. (yawn)
IBT: Ottoman sign military alliance with France AGAINST us. Ugh.
(08) 1310
Frigates in Mediterranean position to bombard French shores. Objective is to kill as much connectivity and production as possible. Dirty tricks are the only tricks we have left, while we rebuild our armies.
The Chosen of Allah will not be swayed into submission!
IBT: Attacks continue on Rome and Al-Darwish. The cities hold, and the French dogs run away with their tails between their legs!!
(09) 1315
The Whirling Dervishes on Horses (Cav unit!) attacks French infantry and win! Mu'Awaiya comes to power and plans on founding a new Army of the Chosen!
IBT: Khimaran revolts!! Oopsie. Sorry about that.. so much to watch on these turns... at least it isn't a high production city...
New army is commissioned in Damascus. Will be shipped over to Iberia to load with troops. These French dogs will feel the wrath of the Chosen!
(10) 1320
"Operation Rheims" begins! The attack force begins it's advance.
Al-Darwish and Rome are refortified with fresh units from our newly commissioned reserves
IBT: Units seen running from Rheims! Perhaps the French know the city is doomed?
More attacks on Rome - the city holds and kills a couple Cavs.
(11) 1325
"Operation Rheims" taskforce nears its target. Soon, Rheims will be reduced to ash!
Begin construction of factory in al-Bikr.
Troop strength is growing in Iberia once again. Currently establishing an Iberain Defense Force to mop up the French landing forces.
IBT: Lose musketman in Al-Darwish, but the city holds.
Rome is attacked (again  ), but we destroy a few more Cav units.
Begin construction of Pentagon in Damascus (14 turns) to increase the strength of our armies!
(12) 1330
Army begins loading Cavalry in Najran.
"Operation Rheims" taskforce positions itself outside of Rheims. The assault begins!
Marseilles is almost completely pillaged! No sign of French workers. Next target: PARIS!
IBT: Dutch Knights and Swiss Mercs seen harrassing French cities and troops!
Russia and France make peace.
Al-Darwish FALLS to the vile French!
London completes the Theory of Evolution. :(
(13) 1335
Rheims is burned to the ground!! The Whirling Dervishes perform in the streets of Mecca in celebration!
IBT: Ottomans attack Rome and take out a musket and a cav. grrrr
(14) 1340
Operation begins to regain Al-Darwish. Prayers go to Allah for the safety of the people of Rome.
IBT: Many French units attack our armies. Many are destroyed.
(15) 1345
A few skirmishes. Not much to report.
IBT: Damage done to Task Force done in French territory. We're killing many more of them, though.
Pompeii repels an attack force, but does not kill any cavs.
(16) 1350
Al-Darwish is liberated!! (at the cost of 1 cav of ours to 4 Frenchy cavs and 2 Frenchy rifleman!)
More cavalry ferried over to Iberia.
Darwish's Dervishes (army) attacks and kills 2 Infantry and 3 Cavs.
IBT: The EVIL Ottomans attack Rome and BURN IT TO THE GROUND!!! They shall one day feel the wrath of Allah and the Faithful, for we shall NEVER forget this atrocity!
(17) 1355
Destroyed more French Infantry and Cavs.
Made Peace with Ottomans (gave Steam Power, got 27 gold) .. Italy must be secured.
IBT: Renegotiated alliance with Dutch (to at least TRY to distract the French). Got burned on the deal - 2 luxs and 42GPT. Ugh.
(18) 1360
Pillage French Coal. I can't be 100%, but I think we've taken out their coal supply.. Now, if only we can deplete them of their Infantry.
Healing damaged units.
IBT: Unsuccessful French attacks on our units. No losses either side.
(19) 1365
Nothing much happened. Moved units into position around Hispalis.
IBT: French units moved toward our front line forces. No combat.
(20) 1370
Attacked Hispalis and got amazing results from the bombardment, so I decided to attack. Lost 1 Cav, killed 3 Infantry and 2 Rifleman. Burned that city to the ground, too.
SUMMARY:
I'm stopping here. Next player can decide which attacks to commence. We have one pillaging army in French territory, and I think we're beginning to see the results of that. Unfortunately, the other AI seem to no longer be distracting Joan, and as a result, we're seeing a lot of units come our way. Our military is still WEAK compared to Joan's...
Good luck!! This game is by no means dead.
soul_warrior Jun 02, 2005, 02:56 AM good god, darwish
the faithful shall flock the the army of the Jihadeen now in view of the great skill shown by the whirler, and the evil of the french and ottomans.
not a "got it" as i will not be able to play b4 saturday.
Darwin420 Jun 02, 2005, 06:41 AM I was worried when I first took the turns, because the situation looked very grim. But, our production capacity is pretty high, so replacing lost units is getting easier. Every other turn I was buying units, so our treasury is by no means looking good (but we're making ~212GPT).
I'd say try to CAPTURE Orleans, because there are a few wonders there that could help us out. I'd like to smash the French homeland, and leave them raw with their colonial holdings before making peace. Joan is one of the most advanced civs in the world, so if we cripple her, it gives us a good shot at catching back up in tech.
Looking far into the future, once we make peace with France, we should take out England and the Celts. Easy pickings.
I'm going to try to post a screenshot later tonight, when I get home from work.
Whomp Jun 02, 2005, 09:58 AM Praise Allah and the al-Darwish! May your family and our brave soldiers be blessed with many virgins. If we can get to arty and rails we will overcome the odds.
I will try to pick this up tonight if I can.
Darwin420 Jun 02, 2005, 10:46 AM I'm just glad I finally got to fight a war! :D
EDIT: I kept science at 10%, and no one will sell techs to us. I figured it was more important to be able to buy units than to advance in tech.
Our science was already working on Electricity, and I didn't change it...
Methos Jun 02, 2005, 05:00 PM lurker's comment:Where's the saves at? I wouldn't mind examing the saves but don't see them.
Whomp Jun 02, 2005, 07:14 PM I see the 1370 save Methos and a few from previous pages. Do you not see them? There could be some that are missing because Bianezzi wanted to get them first.
BTW I got it and will try to get some in before SW is available Saturday.
Methos Jun 02, 2005, 08:15 PM I see the 1370 save Methos and a few from previous pages. Do you not see them?
Yeah I see it now  , thanks. Apparently I wasn't paying close enough attention. I did notice that some of the earlier saves were missing, I take it some were sent via pm/email.
Thanks for pointing out the obvious (starting to lose my mind, now my eyesite? :ack: )
Methos Jun 02, 2005, 08:46 PM lurker’s comment:
You have cities with 80 and 90% corruption that are using tiles that are mined, why? I’ve found that if you take cities with high corruption and irrigate all the surrounding land converting the extra food into specialist citizens (scientists) you can significantly increase your science output. According to CA2 you have two cities at 80% corruption and seven cities at 90% corruption. Even if you can only get one scientist from each city (I managed to get two scientist from Al-Fateh) that’s 27 extra beakers a turn!
Out of curiosity I went through and adjusted the citizens for all cities that were 80% or more corrupt. From the save Electricity will take 8 turns to learn and after my adjustments it’ll take 4 turns. Also note that at the save you were making 214 gpt and after my adjustments you were making 211 gpt. So by losing 3 gpt you gain 4 turns on research.
Note: After my adjustments I got 16 citizens from those 9 cities and that is without irrigating the mined tiles. If you irrigated those tiles instead you could gain even more scientist. Also just for the heck of it I switched science to 0% research causing you to learn Electricity in 6 turns and making 252 gpt.
My apologies if this seems rude or offends anyone, I just noticed something and thought I would share.
Admiral Kutzov Jun 02, 2005, 08:56 PM @ methos - don't worry about offending this group. your comments were the exemplary lutker comments. :goodjob: Although the schedule doesn't allow active participation in this, keep going guys and kick some... Still lurkin'
Darwin420 Jun 03, 2005, 06:37 AM @methos: no offense taken. I'll admit, I HATE the MM bits. :( I did the basics to try to keep my cities from rioting, and that was that. Production was enough for me to build up the army, and, as you can see, we had a few other pressing matters (like France). ;)
Your comments are most appreciated! Thank you!
Oh, and the 1370 save wasn't immediately available because I forgot to attach it! :mischief:
soul_warrior Jun 03, 2005, 06:49 AM will get to it saturday, but have 2 more sg's so it will be LATE saturday
Whomp Jun 03, 2005, 10:24 AM A little news from the front through about 7-8 turns....
Methos is correct many of our cities need to be watered. As well I turned all the citizens in Chartres and El-Darwish into scientists. Food was hard to come by. :mischief: I did the same with citizens in corrupt cities and later they were turned into taxmen. This allowed me to get electricity in 4 (but it should've been 3  ). With that being said we have acquired electricity and medicine and our ambassador in London stumbled upon some information that gave us replaceable parts:mischief: which was traded for the corporation. I think we will continue to work closely with our ambassadors.:mischief:
On the war front early in 1375 there was a mass buildup of Napoleon's cavalry and DeGaulle's infantry near the Arab Alps. They attacked and took Al-Darwish but were exacted a fatal blow in 1380 when we took back the city and eliminated their whole attack force. There were many cavalry units promoted to elite status and our mighty muskets have absorbed many attacks. There were many lost as well to injured guerillas and infantrymen. Cumae is in our possession and Orleans is raining cannonballs. We have pillaged any excess food source, lux and strategic resource that can be found. There are two settlers on their way to claim squatters rights to what Allah has told us is rightfully ours..."black gold". The Pentagon is in so additional units will be added to our armies. The one naval battle was close but their elite caravel was sunk to the bottom of the sea. We control the seas.
The biggest negative is Germany is becoming powerful. I renegotiated their lux deals for an additional 56 gpt but I don't think we want to feed this beast long term. The French have aligned embargos against us with every worthless country around the world. We have very good relations with the Dutch.
I will post more later with the save.
Darwin420 Jun 03, 2005, 01:00 PM My poor city of Al-Darwish. :( At least it hasn't been burned to the ground! :)
Whomp Jun 04, 2005, 11:37 AM Ali Darwish Kutzov Ibn Allah bin Fajer comes from a long line of great leaders in the Arab monarchy. He is the Ambassador of England. Ali is a Oxford educated and a skilled diplomat. Understanding the ways of the English he fits seamlessly into the upper echelon of English culture. Questions are abundant regarding rumours of genocide in old French cities Chartres and Al-Darwish. Ali explains that this is rubbish. Al-Darwish was once a great Arab city that the scourge of the world shall pay a heavy price for its taking. Ali realizes to accelerate electricity many French citizens are being used in testing. In the meantime, the Prime Minister tells Ali the English have no quarrel with the French any longer. They have made peace. Ali seethes with contempt. He, like most Arabs through history, he will exact revenge in a way that no one has attempted before.
The other part of our story is about the war on the Arab continent. Beadin bin Ridge- Wayed is the general leading our troops. He is battle hardened and a master of deception. His writings on the topic are legendary. He has learned much from the Whirling Dervishes and continues the pillaging of all resources the French have. We will follow Beadin's destruction of French forces through pictures. Napoleon and De Gaulle were not prepared for such force.
The Year 1375 brought English/French peace. Spain agrees to embargo with France. They have always been evil. Ali informs the Prime Minister of England that our forces require some joy. We will be cancelling the agreement to export wines for 6 gpt to his country. "Of course, you must understand it's for morale". The Prime Minister understands. Ali knows wine is in excess but the English must pay a price. More will come. In this same year the Trade Minister increase the prices for 3 luxuries being sent to Germany from 52 gpt to 102 gpt. Not something the elders feel comfortable with but gold is required in these war years.
The War Plan
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/arabia2.JPG
In 1380 England and Spain make peace and then Spain allies with the French against us. Silly fools. General Ridge-Wayed's plan has taken a slight twist but with similar results. The French undoing.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/arabia3.JPG
Many elite troops are created as al-Darwish is taken by the French and retaken by us.
In 1385 The Ottomans and Spain start an embargo against. They need us more than we need their worthless goods. More importantly, the genocide in Chartres has paid dividends. We trade Electricity to the silly Ottomans for Medicine and all their 10g pieces. We have our first naval action against an elite French caravel.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/arabia4.JPG
In 1390 the backward Celtic people embargo against us with the French.
In 1400 Our Pentagon is finished. This will make our armies so much more powerful. Ridge Wayed will be very happy. The Dutch make peace with the worthless Spaniards.
Whomp Jun 04, 2005, 11:38 AM 1405 will go down as one of the pivotal points in Arab history. It starts with the French trying to open a line of communication. Our demands are extreme. They deny our request. We explain the errors of their ways. The reality is we know full well there will be no peace till the Arab people fulfill what Allah says is rightfully ours. On the war front, General Ridge Wayed backdoors the French in a move that catches De Gaulle off guard.
His troops are annihilated in Cumae.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/Arabia5.JPG
Cumae will open the door to many great things for the great Arab nation. In England Ali has been busy entertaining the British Head of Science Basil Leaf. They have become fast friends. Ali drinks great wines that are simply not available in their country. Over drinks Basil becomes very drunk (with a little help from Ali's added potion). With the enticement of making Leaf a very wealthy man and the greatest wine cellar in all of England...
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/arabia6.JPG
Leaf had espewed all of the details of how replaceable parts work. This information becomes extremely valuable. The information is traded in exchange for the secrets of The Corporation to the Dutch. The great Arab people have become very educated over the recent years. There is a new abundant substance that only the Greeks are without. Rubber.
In 1410 the French city Veii is razed with many slaves and Fez Head is established. This is the bridge plan to the country's destiny "black gold". More workers are taken in the countryside as it seems the French are desperate. The Germans complete a great construction project called Hoover's Dam.
In 1420 our great Frigates rain terror on the city of Mansura and are very sucessful. The city falls as our 1st army takes a beating, we lose 1 cavalry regiment but our last promotes to elite status upon taking the city. The 2nd army invades Pisa where only conscript infantrymen are protecting the city. Pisa falls easily and our soldiers return the 5 cannons the French stole many years ago.
Our destiny fulfilled...
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/arabiabattle.JPG
In 1425 What Allah told us was rightfully ours comes true. The great city of Allah's Black Gold is established. A colony is established nearby simply to have. The new eastern provinces..
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/arabiafinal.JPG
With our destiny being fulfilled the French are willing to part with the technology Refining for 1190g and 5gpt. . This technology can likely be traded to the Ottoman's for our other technologies and to the Dutch for Scientific Method. We would need to check alliances first if we make peace. The French can likely be sold all kinds of resources for lots of that gold in return since her infrastructure has been virtually destroyed. We have many civil engineers working on great projects. The Germans need to be knocked down a peg once our deal expires.
Allah's view...
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/arabiasatelite.JPG
Admiral Kutzov Jun 04, 2005, 03:16 PM Paris is size 29? :rotfl:
Darwin420 Jun 05, 2005, 10:01 AM Nice work. Personally, I would've kept on it until all of France's 'motherland' was ours. They did commit atrocities to us... like not bowing down before the First God... :worship:
Whomp Jun 05, 2005, 10:29 AM We have not made peace with the French yet. I was throwing it out there to see if we can find the other black gold. Texas tea.(breaks out in song)
Orleans is buried on a hill and will take some time to root out. Even with cannons the risks are high with that many infantrymen in the city.
Paris at size 29 is insane (it was 32). The question is whether we want to relent with their economy reeling and military on their heels.
My thinking was since they have no resources we could trade them to the French for the gold we give them for refining. We can get up to speed on techs then declare on the Germans and get the French and Russians to fight them for us since they are on all the German borders. Maybe even get the Germans to waste their GA on war. In the meantime we play defense and improve our cities.
Thoughts from the elders?
Check the Dutch on any pending deals if we take that tact.
soul_warrior Jun 05, 2005, 12:49 PM one elder of the tribe shall cast his vote with you, o great strategist.
the french have suffered and now know humility. next they must show true faith. and only blood can prove they have become true believers.
all must attack the german heathens!!!
all bow down to Allah!!!
Whomp Jun 05, 2005, 01:25 PM Maybe first things first. Do we sign peace?
If we do the "other black gold" could determine a lot. When we see this black gold then we should discuss the next step. If the resource is located in Greece, Russia and Ottoman empires that resource must be "rightfully" taken out of their hands.
I believe this to be just another message...."The second black gold".
Really, the way elder Fajer sees it.....our destiny is to have control of all things black, gray and lime green. Just a recent vision I've had.
Darwin420 Jun 05, 2005, 05:38 PM The Whirling Dervishes sing and dance of a time in the future when the Arabs shall control ALL! The First God has shown us the way.
I still say we should take out the French homeland, just for kicks! :D let them keep their other holdings. The Dervishes would like to see Paris burn to the ground.
Darwin420 Jun 10, 2005, 06:34 AM :bump: Whomp, you still around?
Whomp Jun 10, 2005, 08:48 AM I'm sorry I thought Soul Warrior was next. I will play some turns this weekend but anyone who wants a "got it" feel free.
soul_warrior Jun 10, 2005, 09:38 AM im up? okee.
