I've noticed that with the monarch difficulty level and above the AI gets some additional free units.

Is there any way to switch this off?

I'm changing the Age of Discovery scenario. The current behaviour is that all AI european powers get 7 instead of only one longbowman. Interestingly the same number of pikeman as placed in the original map.

In the scenario properties no starting units are specified.

In the Difficulty Levels Tab the AI bonuses are set to no additional starting units for all levels.

Unit support bonuses start at monarch level... but turning them off made no difference.

I switched of draft for longbowman but that would only have an effect when the AI has its turn.

Any ideas?
Help appreciated

Thanks

Take a look at the "Dificulty Levels" screen at the editor and see if changing the numbers for the Monarch level solves the problem...

Right.

I've checked both the MP and SP version of that conquest, and neither one is set to have any bonus units for the AI in the first place; neither are there any bonus starting units set for any player in the scenario -> scenario properties "Player" tab. Aside from what each player starts with already placed on the map, there aren't any extra starter units.

It did not unfortunately. Changing from 0 to 1 for defensive land units resulted in adding an additional longbowman. Total 8 now. Same with offensive land units.

Must be a bug... nobody noticed this so far? Weird

I tested the scenario in Debug mode, in the Monarch level and didn't see those additional longbowmen...

May I ask how to switch on that debug mode?
I was looking for a way to check. So I'm using now spy missions to find out...
There must be a better way.

...ok figured it out ;)

So I took the vanilla Age of Discovery scenario, not the one I'm messing with, and enabled debug mode.

Now all AIs have only one longbowman, but double the number of pikemen...

I have C3C with 1.22 patch... so must be a faulty installation perhaps.

Can you attach your version of the scenario with a reply post?
Thanks

It is the original game without any of the expansion packs.

Well... same problem. So it must be my Civ installation.
Or the Editor somehow messed up the scenario file when I was setting it to debug mode.

Anyway I'll try to reinstall Civ and see if there is a difference...

Vanilla as in "off the shelf" ;)
