ainwood Mar 20, 2005, 01:51 PM The isolated start in GOTM impacted on all victory conditions, however the top of the leaderboard was again largely domination victories.
Bradleyfeanor claimed, with a silver and a couple of bronzes previously, claimed his first gold medal with a domination victory triggered in 720 AD; also being the only person to break 10,000 points.
SirPleb to the more time consuming route, milking his way to a histographic victory and the silver medal.
Third place also went to StanNP, where he won the bronze when he crossed the domination limit in 980 AD.

Lance Mar 20, 2005, 02:44 PM Gongratulations to all winners, especially to Abegweit, who won me ;) ( =The Award for the victory condition I chose)
Niklas Mar 20, 2005, 03:32 PM Wow, 16th place with only 7127 points, I never would have thought. And only three lousy turns from an award.
Congratulations to all, and especially to Redbad. Here's to hoping you get that epthalon!
Xevious Mar 20, 2005, 04:12 PM Wow, 16th place with only 7127 points, I never would have thought. And only three lousy turns from an award.
Congratulations to all, and especially to Redbad. Here's to hoping you get that epthalon!
I agree, the scores were markedly lower this month. There was only one score over 10000. I had expected to be in the middle of the pack at 6630, but instead I'm at 23. This was largely due to never leaving my home island group. I need to get it through my skull: :hammer: Must dominate! Must Dominate! :wallbash:
Drugged_Unholy Mar 20, 2005, 04:16 PM :wow:
Top 100 for me this time.
conehead234 Mar 20, 2005, 04:18 PM http://gotm.civfanatics.net/players/awards/MusicNote.gifhttp://gotm.civfanatics.net/players/awards/oliveshield.gif conehead234: Cultural 100k Victory in 1792 AD, 5780 points.
:D my first award. I didn't expect that I would get one. Then again, I was the only one who went for Culture 100K.
DBear Mar 20, 2005, 05:07 PM Coulda got a Dippy win 80 years earlier had I kept Carthage alive, but noooooo...
solenoozerec Mar 20, 2005, 05:48 PM Congratulations to everyone and especialy to Bradleyfeanor and Xerol.
Bradleyfeanor not only for a gold and domination award, but also for being the only one with 10K+ score in this extremly slow paced game.
@Xerol - nice shot. I think that purposeful sheild winning requires very unusual game style indeed, particularly in domination.
@MiniMe. Taking in acount your COTM9 results you got in a very bad pattern. Wining faster than a third place and not getting neither award nor medal. Wish you to get out of this.
:D my first award. I didn't expect that I would get one.
 And you got two. Smart choice of a victory type :mischief:
Wow, 16th place with only 7127 points, I never would have thought.
Me too. I thought that this game will be a complete failure. Yet it was not the worst one. Average score is very low, it took a lot of time to grow on these tiny islands.
Smirk Mar 20, 2005, 06:40 PM Grats all, alas I never got much into the ADs before time ran short and other distractions ruled.
I'm extremely surprised no one else got contact pre1000BC, now seeing the QSC I wish I would have finished to see what effect all that would have been.
Edit:
Oh, duh, I can't seem to access the timelines, get a permission error.
Xerol Mar 20, 2005, 06:56 PM Halfway there! List of shields:
http://gotm.civfanatics.net/players/awards/greenshield.gif - GOTM 32
http://gotm.civfanatics.net/players/awards/oliveshield.gif - GOTM 38
http://gotm.civfanatics.net/players/awards/blueshield.gif - GOTM 40
This just leaves Conquest, Diplo, and 20k, all of which are possible to do with few cities. I didn't think I'd get the Domination shield in GOTM40 so I'm gonna have to re-route my GOTM41 tactics for another condition now, but that's a discussion for the spoiler threads.
Methos Mar 20, 2005, 09:24 PM :D my first award. I didn't expect that I would get one. Then again, I was the only one who went for Culture 100K.
Congratulations on your fastest 100k win. Sorry about the shield, maybe you’ll have better luck next time. :D
I got 81st place, yeah!!! That may not sound very good but I’m happy.
Congrats on all the winners, though this was a tough one it was also a lot of fun.
civ_steve Mar 21, 2005, 12:44 AM Congratulations to all the Winners, and a Good Job done to all participants! This was a pretty extreme map, and still 101 of the 114 submittals were victories! :goodjob: (And some of those 13 submitted losses were by design, as people seek out the Ambulance awards. ;) )
Gato Loco Mar 21, 2005, 12:49 AM No shield this time, which is an improvement, but I've got to read Redbad's spoilers again. 1385!?!?!? How does he do it? It's a stretch for me to win domination in 1385, let alone get to the modern age! Many congratulations to anyone who can pull off something like that. Anyway, I probably won't get a chance to play GOTM 41. I think I'll be back for 42 or 43.
Redbad Mar 21, 2005, 08:09 AM Congrats to all the winners and all the participants. And thanks Niklas and Gato Loco for your kind word
@Niklas: The eptathlon-queeste goes beyound expectation. I'm doing my first military vc (domination) in GOTM41. And the outcome is quite a surprise for me.
@Gato Loco: My speed was largely due to lucky trading in the AA and constant emphasis on gold for research. I made quite a few mistakes which cost me something like ten turns in all I estimate. First mistake my prebuild for the UN was build in the capitol so I couldn't use the palace but only Hoover. Hoover is 800 shields so I needed an extra three turns to complete the extra 200 shields for UN. Next mistake I never traded with the ZEB-continent because they never build a harbour. I should have settled on the ZEB and build a harbour myself Then I could have adjusted the science/entertainment ratio from 90/10 to 100/0, and saved some turns on research. Last mistake was not to have a fully grown second core, only three cities. If it had been 8 cities I surely would have researched faster in the IA.
But like Niklas stated in his post:(and I quote)
Reading the spoilers by Bradleyfeanor and Sir Pleb leaves no doubt that they could have beaten this date by a gazillion turns had either of them aimed for diplomacy. Expansion is the key to success...
Dynamic Mar 21, 2005, 08:34 AM Congratulations to everyone and especialy to Bradleyfeanor!
You win in good stile using the game specifics and ability! :goodjob:
And of course you got the first gold so your sentence yourself about go down in GPR was too early. ;)
Megalou Mar 21, 2005, 09:22 AM Congratulations bradleyfeanor, well deserved!
Congrats to all others too.
Redbad, we're neck to neck in the awards quest!
bradleyfeanor Mar 21, 2005, 10:28 AM Holy Smokes, I finally got Gold! Even more satisfying personally is that I finally finished above Sir Pleb (my mentor :) ). The dozens of hours spent analyzing his turn logs, War Academy articles and game summaries are finally paying off!
I had some good fortune in this game to go along with my strategy, and that certainly helped to land the gold. The ocean survival percentage of my galleys overall was just under 50% (not good), but on the critical first crossing the percentage was 75% (very, very good). If the odds had been reversed then it would have slowed me down by a minimum of 5 turns, perhaps much longer. The 2-turn anarchy and the perfectly timed leader appearance weren’t too shabby either.
Thanks for the congratulations guys! :D
Although my #1 goal from here will probably be seeking out the eptathlon awards, the results for this game dramatically illustrate my #2 goal: playing faster. It only took Sir Pleb six hours more than me to play an additional gazillion turns. And the games by Redbad, eridine and Conehead blow my mind: they each got their awards in only 9-12 hours of play time. I can’t even dream of doing that!
Congrats to all participants, especially Nichelle who got her highest placement to date, #50! :goodjob:
StanNP Mar 21, 2005, 11:53 AM Well, my first medal is quite a shock, since I knew that MiniMe (Dom in 940ad) and Megalou with (Conquest in 980ad) had finished with better dates or victory conditions.
My game was actually a failed conquest victory, and my higher score likely indicates that I had more territory early and failed make use of it for a faster finish. From memory, I invaded Persia around 420ad (after navigation) with a force of 15 MI, but failed to take Persopolis until around 600ad, and only after I got Cavalry to help.
I’ll post a full write up in the second spoiler when I get a chance.
Congratulations to Bradleyfeanor for defeating SirPleb and congratulations to SirPleb for saving a game with poor RNG with an impressive recovery.
StanNP
Abegweit Mar 21, 2005, 06:26 PM Gongratulations to all winners, especially to Abegweit, who won me ;) ( =The Award for the victory condition I chose)
Thank you muchly. :) My very first medal in only my third completed civIII game. I am very :D
SirPleb Mar 22, 2005, 12:24 AM Congratulations bradleyfeanor! You may have had some good fortune but you seized it and used it well and that's what really counts
Redbad Mar 22, 2005, 01:10 AM Redbad, we're neck to neck in the awards quest!
Yes, I see that too. And judging from the 41-spoiler we certainly won't get an award both next time  (both going for domination).
Megalou Mar 22, 2005, 02:02 AM Judging from the 41-spoiler you will spoil my fun for sure.
King Of America Mar 22, 2005, 09:13 AM :D my first award. I didn't expect that I would get one. Then again, I was the only one who went for Culture 100K.
Well, let's just say you were the only one who went for it and won
:)
Jonesy10 Mar 22, 2005, 01:16 PM I must say that I am amazed with my 84th place finish. I must thank all you fellow forum-ers for your posts and misc. advice. Having only started playing Civ3 since January, I didn't think I would be able to keep up (if you consider a 84th place finish keeping up).
Congrats to all!
Nata Mar 23, 2005, 09:51 AM Congratulations, Abegweit!
Your game was so great I thought you might be first in 20K competition. :)
Your winning date is excellent but I missed your final spoiler: it would be curious to see how you managed the later expansion and relations to other Civs.
Abegweit Mar 23, 2005, 11:31 AM Thanks for the kind words. RL has kept me pretty busy lately so I haven't been able to find the time. I'll try to over the long weekend.
Pentium Mar 24, 2005, 12:06 PM http://gotm.civfanatics.net/players/awards/redambulance.gif Pentium Conquest Loss in 1680 AD, 488 points.
Congratulations to all winners!
Thanks!   God I hate Archipelagos.
k-a-bob Mar 24, 2005, 12:39 PM Thanks!   God I hate Archipelagos.
Archipelagos are definitely my weak spot as well...
(I'm surprised I didn't get this one!)
I definitely learned a lot from my first GoTM...
:goodjob:
solenoozerec Mar 24, 2005, 01:37 PM Well, on another hand, it takes a while for AI to come and get you on Archipelago
Pentium Mar 27, 2005, 10:18 AM But it takes a while for you to come to AIs. And the you lose with your Swordsmen vs. Musketmen.
MiniMe Mar 27, 2005, 01:04 PM Congratulations to all the winners and especially Bradleyfeanor for a very nice strategy and a great domination date. :goodjob:
@MiniMe. Taking in acount your COTM9 results you got in a very bad pattern. Wining faster than a third place and not getting neither award nor medal. Wish you to get out of this.
Couldn't agree more. Guess I need to sharpen up a bit. ;)
