View Full Version : Seth's Road to Domination
Seth the Dark Mar 20, 2005, 06:41 PM I've decided to document my journey, as the English, to rule the waves!
Map: Archipeleago, 60% water
Difficulty: Warlord (I know, I'm not that good as of yet)
Other Civs: Full, Random
Barbarians: Restless
So please bear with me as I play as Elizabeth I of the English.
Feel free to discuss it with me because I want to gain as many skills and learn as many tips as I can.
Seth the Dark Mar 21, 2005, 12:48 AM A gentle breeze blew across the the faces of the brave, but untested, English people. After many years of wandering the islands of their world, the English decided that it was time to settle after many stories about foriegn and their villages. With the sea to the south and unknown lands to the north and west, London was founded as the first village of the English. Among this brave people a woman stepped forward to lead them onto greatness, her name was Elizabeth, or how history would remember her, Elizabeth I.

Elizabeth soon recognized the plight of her people: they had little to no food. So she set put and assigned the most able bodied members of her tribe to get to work and begin farming. While this was going on, the warrior that she had set out to scout the area brought back news of tribal attacks and of a substance that could bring her people happiness. The substance that the warrior had found was several things of dyes with which Elizabeth could use to color her bland furs.
Since the history of her people layed out at sea, Elizabeth had sent out one of the English curraghs to survey the surrounding coastlines and bring her news of importance.
Seth the Dark Mar 21, 2005, 01:07 AM Things started to look up as the warrior brought back news of exactly 3 dyes which Elizabeth believed could be traded with other tribes if they ever came in contact with them. Other good news included the discovery a nearby herd of "cows" along with a river that could help solve the problem of food.
The English curragh reported back and is said to have circled around a deserted island that appears to have little if no importance. Elizabeth took this news and told the crew to sail further along.

Admiral Armada Mar 21, 2005, 10:57 AM Sounds decent so far, pics are a bit low quality, kind of blurry. But i admire your decision to post
Seth the Dark Mar 21, 2005, 01:42 PM I have to use the default paint program on my comp.. I'll try and put better quality pics in. Thanks for the comment and the interest you have shown.
Seth the Dark Mar 21, 2005, 02:07 PM Years went by and still there was no word from the curragh. Elizabeth grew worried and suddenly one morning a messenger arrived at London and brought back startiling news of a people north of the English territory known as the Portugese. This troubled Elizabeth greatly because she knew that these "Portugese" posed a threat to her people. The messenger interrupted Elizabeth and also said that a scout from another tribe known as the Mongols was spotted by the scout ship. This only doubled her panic because the Mongols were known as a warlike people that had decimated whole civilizations.

*Note is the bottom picture better?
Seth the Dark Mar 21, 2005, 02:36 PM Meanwhile the warrior that had been sent out to explore the Northernlands, came back to bring news of a bountyful plains area, that he nicknamed the "Midlands", that countained many glowing rocks as well more sources of food. With news of the Midlands, Elizabeth decided to send out a party and begin to settle this area. Little did she know that this group would stumble onto another body of water to the west of the Midlands.

CoolioVonHoolio Mar 21, 2005, 07:48 PM I see that you have the babylonians to the west of you
EXPAND EXPAND EXPAND!!! and you dont need your scienice at 100% 60 or 70 would be fine. expand west, have york build settlers and you dont really need the collosus, although it will trigger a golden age.
Go west as fast as you can, i made the mistake of going south, :wallbash: and the babylonians took up losts of very good land over there. There is an Iron resourse that i wish i had right now over there that the babylonians now control. So i declaired war on them and i am now distroying them.
Lets review shall we?
1. Go west
2. Get the iron
3. Build swordsmen like crazy and distroy babylon!!! (you) :ar15: (babylon) :suicide:
Seth the Dark Mar 21, 2005, 08:07 PM Elizabeth decided that it was time to erect some sort of monument to her people and decided to start building a Colossus until something better came along....
While traveling further northward along the Midlands, the brave warrior came upon more deposits of gems and a source of a new metal known as Iron. With such a material, the English could build superior weapons that could give them an edge in battle. The only drawback to this discovery is that it is very far away and it has to be claimed very quickly.

The destiny of the infant English civilization is still unknown, but with the steady leadership of Elizabeth, the English are on the way to greatness.
Seth the Dark Mar 21, 2005, 09:05 PM With the establishment of Nottingham, the English made contact with another people known as the Babylonians. Shortly after contact was made, an emissary was sent to Babylon and an embassy was created. This contact made Elizabeth very nervous because the Babylonians were right at her doorstep and expanding faster than her own people. A tough decision had to be made: either make the Babylonians submit or go to war with them. An envoy was sent to the King Hammurabi demanding "15 gold for peace". Hammurabi was furious at the audacity of the English people and had the envoy's head chopped off and placed on the gates to Babylon. When news of this reached Elizabeth's ears she sent a decree to her people that the evil Babylonians had entered English territory and were intent on rape and pillage. Thus the Anglo-Babylonian war began....

Other matters were at hand as the curragh reported the position of the Mongol territory and the name of the unknown civilization: the French. This was a another troubling matter because it was vital to the survival of England that the Anglo Straits were controlled by the English. There was additional news of another civilization that was far to the south east and has yet to be identified.
Within London the great works project of the Colossus was changed to the Pyramids because Elizabeth saw the need to expand English lands. The Project was nearing completion when terrible news reached the capital that an people known as the Mayans had just built a Pyramids of their own. The English were distraught that such a thing had happened when the benevolent Elizabeth had the Project changed to the Oracle, Alistar Crowley. With the Oracle completed, a great English religion was born.
Seth the Dark Mar 21, 2005, 11:54 PM It was a slow start to the war with both sides building up their forces. Each side had a clear objective with the English trying to limit the Babylon empire and the Babylonians trying to expand into the Midland area.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v653/SeththeDark/Civ/1425BCWarStart.jpg
The beginning skirmishes took place in the Midlands close to the English settlements. The forces used included Babylonian warriors against the English spearmen and warriors. In addition to this, the English had to deal with barbarians invading into their territory. It soon became clear that each side had its strengths and weaknesses:
England
Strengths: Numbers, Resources, strong road network
Weaknesses: Had no initial army, no acess to resources
Babylon
Strengths: Already had an army, strong internal network, Babylonian Archer
Weaknesses: Unknown strategic resources, small empire
The English army of archers struck for the nearest Babylonian town of Ekidu while the Babylonians tryed to counteract this attack. With his Babylonian archers, Hammurabi was able to halt the English advance outside Ekidu. The battle for Ekidu quickly became a stalemate with each side matching eachothers thrust. Elizabeth saw the situation ahead of time and ordered a galley to be made and a couple archers to be placed on board. Once the galley was full, it struck out for a Babylonian city just below Ekidu and managed to raze the city. This loss damaged the Babylonian moral and subsequently Ekidu fell to the English archers. Several Babylonian workers were enslaved and ordered to lay a road to Nottingham.

While the English were at war with the Babylonians, things were not going well at home. This is because another Project was ordered by Elizabeth to be a Lighthouse to show the might of England but this was constructed by the Mayans first. Elizabeth was infuriated by the Mayans and her inability to create Wonders. She decided to send an envoy to the Mayan king, Smoke-Jaguar. The envoy demanded a tribute of 20 gold and this was promptly rejected by Smoke-Jaguar. Unlike Hammurabi, Smoke-Haguar just sent the English envoy away. The English queen decided that Mayan peace was the key to their success and so she declared war on the Mayans. This was not much of a threat to English land because of the great distant between the two lands and so Elizabeth sought allies in her war. She turned to the Aztecs and the French. The Aztec King Montezuma agreed with the request on the premise that Elizabeth shared the idea of Mysticism. This was granted. When Elizabeth went to the French queen Joan de Arc she was turned down and this created a sense of tension between the English and French.

Dachs Mar 22, 2005, 08:29 AM It appears that the English are getting turned away at every turn...I've been following this for awhile, looks like a good thread. Hope for more new updates!
CoolioVonHoolio Mar 22, 2005, 06:09 PM Great job seth, you got the iron and now are able to easily crush the babylonians!!!
Seth the Dark Mar 22, 2005, 08:51 PM Dark news had reached London when it was learned that the entire English army had been wiped out by the Babylonian counter attack. In addition to this sad news, it was also learned that the Babylonians had replaced their lost cities. But not all the news was bad. Word had reached Elizabeth that a road had been completed that connected London to its only source of iron.

Note: The next couple of days I am testing a beta version of a realism mod, so I wont have many updates. Could anyone give me advice on what to do next?
rbis4rbb Mar 22, 2005, 08:53 PM Wonders aren't that necessary. Son't woeey about not making them. Great story!
Blackbird_SR-71 Mar 23, 2005, 12:37 PM don't build wonders. use the valuable shields for making units. with an army of swordsmen take out babylon fast and quick. maybe throw in some horsemen to weaken the army first for the swordsmen
what map size are you playing on? and are you playing with vanilla, PTW, or conquest?
Seth the Dark Mar 23, 2005, 01:54 PM I'm playing Conquests v 1.22 with a Huge map.
CoolioVonHoolio Mar 23, 2005, 03:49 PM rbis4rbb and blackbird are right. wonders are not needed. I only build wonders when i really like the wonder (trading co., UN, and so on) but otherwise if your in a war BUILD UNITS!!!
