View Full Version : Data error reading Cities on Restore?
MacAllen Dec 09, 2001, 03:09 AM I just went back into my game, one I've put in quite a few hours into, and I got the error in the subject when I tried to load. I have a few saves and all of them have that error. All of the autosaves have that error too.
Is this common? I've been playing the game for quite awhile now and have not had a single problem. Anyone hear of this message and/or know of a fix?
Thanks,
Mac
greenrob Dec 10, 2001, 05:16 AM i think you and i have the exact same problem. i just put up a post about it. is this the error message it gives you:
DataIO operation System Error: CITY
MacAllen Dec 10, 2001, 06:00 PM That is EXACTLY the error I'm getting. On ALL of my saved games. I've completed over a dozen really big games, now all of a sudden my save games are corrupted.
No clue how or why, but it happened in the middle of a several hour session, which is why all the autosaves are corrupt.

Ethics Dec 17, 2001, 12:45 AM Im getting it to. The game would load up to 37% and then give me the exact error message stated above, except, it said UNIT not CITY.
So I load up the game with the save game editor and find a barbarian settler at 0, 0 coordinates. I delete and reload. Now it loads up to 40% and tells me CITY error.
If I was Sid, Id be ashamed to have my name on this product...
talsan Dec 19, 2001, 05:07 PM I've also just encountered this problem! The file loads until up to 57% and then I get that DataIO crap! All the auto saves also have the same problem. Older files from other games are still readable, though.
I don't want to lose this game! If anyone knows how to fix it, I'd much appreciate it.

pfjeff Dec 20, 2001, 09:42 AM 1.16f seemed to fix that problem for me. However, I can't save a game because everytime that I save, the game crashes within 3 turns. I have not had this problem with the autosaved games, so I just live with those saves.
talsan Dec 20, 2001, 09:47 AM Installing 1.16f did fix the problem. I was able to access all my saves without a problem, and it hasn't crashed once since I installed the patch.

Ethics Dec 20, 2001, 02:11 PM Ironically, its 1.16 that caused this for me. The thing is, I went back a couple saves deleting the 0,0 coordinate barb and eventually it did the trick to get the game working =P
