View Full Version : Term 2 - Election for Consul of Cultural Policy Chieftess Mar 26, 2005, 06:03 PM MOTH Xerol mhcarver Mar 27, 2005, 10:32 AM wow, nobody seems to be paying any attention to this race, bump to the top mad-bax Mar 27, 2005, 10:37 AM They are both good candidates. It will be interesting to see what the winner will do with his portfolio. Xerol Mar 27, 2005, 12:37 PM To repost my position on the Lighthouse and the Golden Age: The exact plan depends on the tech situation and what our neighbors do. If the Philosophy gambit succeeds, we should use it to obtain Map Making and immediately begin max research on CoL(or trade for it) in order to get to Republic ASAP. The Lighthouse timing would be such that the build would complete shortly after gov't change, but of course this means a lot of coordination with the Tech people and a bit of luck as well(i.e. Can we get Republic before an AI builds the lighthouse?). With these timing plans, the expansion phase should be just about over by the time we get moving on the Lighthouse, or at least to the point where we have several settler or combo pumps moving and we can afford to spend the shields on the Lighthouse. We still need to explore the tundra area near our start to see how far around it is to get to India via water. The double advantage of fast galleys and a Golden Age in a newly formed republic means we could probably conquer or at least severely cripple the Indians before War Weariness becomes a problem. There is always the option of trying instead to grab Monarchy, but we are farther from it on the tech tree and would probably have to do 2x 40 turn research to get to it without draining our coffers. So Republic looks like the best way to go from a GA perspective. As far as WHERE to build it, donsignia looks like the only viable choice: Our capital isn't going to grow past size 6 without an aqueduct, while ds has tons of available production, and once we move into Republic and the GA, should be able to produce tons of shields, perhaps even enough for 1-turn swords at size 12(although I'd have to really check the numbers to do this - it's probably possible though, considering the cow is there, to work a few hills, which when mined give 3 shields, plus the 1 more for the golden age, and the irrigated cow under Republic would give 5fpt, meaning we can work 3 hills, and that's 12 shields right there. 2 more for the cow itself, 3 in the city square, and we've got 17 shields and 8 citizens left - if each of them works a mined tile that's 16 more shields, plus any BGs they happen to be working, so yeah, 1-turn swords seem like a definite possibility. Of course there's the high worker-turn cost of setting this up, but if you consider what we'd get out of it - 1 sword a turn for 20 turns - it's definitely worth it). Unfortunately we are not a religous civ so the problem of the anarchy remains. As culture counsul for the second term, I would work closely with the Research counsulate to time Republic with the Lighthouse - so that it would be 2-3 turns from completion when we start anarchy, possibly closer but of course we DEFINITELY do not want to trigger it early. The building of the Lighthouse will allow us to easily conquer the Indians and possibly the Dutch within that short timespan of our Golden Age, solidify our position as ruler of the seas, and provide a small cultural boost as well. Also, this term is when we really need to determine the general cultural direction of the nation. From what I can tell, people are leaning towards 130k as the desired victory, and a good chunk of that will come from our core cities - meaning building culture buildings early will give a greater advantage in that regard. I'd like to have at least 2 buildings(be it wonders, small wonders, or improvements) generating culture(besides the Palace) by 1000 or at least 800 BC(depending on war plans). Unfortunately, other than pushing the other departments to lean towards building culture, the Culture Office doesn't really have that much power--so coordination with the other departments is key to implementing a 130k-friendly building policy. Provolution Mar 28, 2005, 06:39 AM Questions 1-3 1. Would you poll cities not owned by Fanatannia in localization polls ? 2. Would you respect long term wonder decisions done in Term One ? 3. Would you like more legal protection for long term wonder decisions ? MOTH Mar 28, 2005, 07:42 AM It seems the main difference between Xerol and myself is in our approach to 130K wins. Xerol advocates building culture buildings early. I advocate using settler factories and military might to quickly expand to the domination limit and then fill the cities with culture buildings at that point. As for Term 2 culture building there are 2 wonders that I would advocate the constuction of at the proper time: The Forbidden Palace and the Great Lighthouse. I would also advocate construction of libraries or temples in those locations where we could easily acquire tiles via the laws of border dynamics. As for Provolution's questions: 1. Yes, but I would not poll on localization polls until current cross-consulate Strategic objectives are coming to a resolution. 2. Yes, I would respect any term 1 wonder decisions in the same manner as decisions made during term 2. Specifically I would look at the poll questions and results and any such mandates provided would require an overide of a similiar proportion to the mandate vote. 3. I don't believe this is necessary. If any decision receives a mandate then it is within the Consul's discretion to set criteria on which CivGeneral Mar 28, 2005, 10:28 PM Just a little survey question. What is your possition for the future war? The Dutch or the Indians MOTH Mar 28, 2005, 10:43 PM War with both, but India first. MOTH Mar 29, 2005, 06:48 PM Xerol, I would be happy to have you as my deputy. I thought you were going to win this for a while as everytime I looked you had a one vote lead. |
