View Full Version : Term 2 - President: From Mediocrity to Dominance

This is the Office of the President for Term 2.

As the thread title indicates, this is the term when our great nation should move from a position of mediocrity in the world to a position of dominance, at least within the group of nations which are near is in geographic terms. To that end, the goals of the term are to develop a plan to supercede the Netherlands as the largest nation in our region, and to ensure that both India and Netherlands are effectively vassal states by that time or earlier. Beyond that goal, we must look to set our national direction towards our stated preferred goal of being a cultural powerhouse, and we need to use our widespread influence in the world to ensure that no other runaway nations develop.

President: DaveShack
Vice President:TimBentley

When will the first turnchat of term II be?

DaveShack
Mar 29, 2005, 07:31 PM
For VP applications you can either reply here if you want it to be public, or via PM if you don't. ;)

The first TC will probably be Sunday afternoon MST. I have to check with "the boss" -- my wife -- to see what we're scheduled to be doing then. Gotta be careful how many chats are when she's wanting me to do other things. :crazyeye:

For VP candidates, are you available to play turnchats? If yes, what blocks of time are good for you?

Unfortunately I no longer have C3C, so I can't play the TC. But I can stop the workers from striking ;).

President DaveShack,

I'd like to request that our next turn chat be a one-turn session. We would just finish the current turn, press enter, get construction for our free tech, and consider the trading options from there. There are a multitude of trading options open to us with these two techs - we can potentially purchase HBR and mapmaking, and put some more gold in our coffers

Mr President,
I would like to volunteer my time to set a new thread for city names on your behalf. Since noone else has stepped forward size DZ's retirement, I will gather his things and add term 2 office holders.

I am pleased to announce the appointment of TimBentley as Vice President. All the candidates are well qualified and would have potential to do well in this position, but my upcoming schedule places a high priority on availability to play the save. Added to the obvious point that the other applicants don't have C3C, I have had several positive experiences with Tim on SG teams and would feel very comfortable with scheduling times when he can play but I can't. :D

MOTH has graciously volunteered to take the reigns of the Naming Office, so I'm happy to appoint him to that position. I would encourage citizens to participate in the renaming captured cities (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=115794) thread.

Thanks for the appointment. Hmm, I should have changed my sig this morning to remove the outdated information, but the specific timing is unimportant, certainly.

At the catchphrase of this office indicates, this term is the time for our nation to undergo vast improvement. We need to move from a position of being nearly last, if not dead last in the standings, to a position where we are the dominant civilization in our geographic group, and the leading one worldwide. To this end I would like to set some concrete goals we can use to gauge our progress.

Here are my initial thoughts on what we need to accomplish this term, from a very high level perspective.

Surpass all our local neighbors (Netherlands, India, China) in most respects.

Number of cities
Land area
Population
Military strength

Be in a position of technical leadership, or at least parity, with everyone.
Be at least average with everyone in terms of military strength
Obtain at least 2, preferably 3 more luxuries. Obtain a monopoly on at least one and use its trade to influence international relations and fund our own expansion.

Great goals. For us to do that we will need everyone to be one the same wavelength. Whether that will happen is another thing, on experience from the last game.

DaveShack
Apr 03, 2005, 10:59 AM
Additional goal

e. Obtain a local group lock on strategic resources. Given what the C3C resource model is supposed to be, we may have the option to trade excess iron ourside the group, since our geographic region has more sources than would normally be expected for this number of civs.

Mr. President DaveShack

I wish to apologise for failing to post my instructions. I mistakenly thought that the Turnchat would be on 9PM . I have recently had a bad week (I have been through a break up with my GF :(, so that would factor in a bit)

I second the motion to have a TCIT to be posted. It should have been posted about a day ago or atleast after the previous TC.

The TCIT is posted. I needed to check with the VP to see what time would work out, and it turned out he's not available till late night.

The TCIT could still have been posted earlier, then edited when needed...

(back in the day, some would call for a PI in a heartbeat if this happened...)

Civgeneral, do you still press the CC charges against President Daveshack?
I have posted a PM on the matter, and if you can handle this by internal arbitration, that would be fine. If that is not the case, the PM would be made into an official case.

President DaveShack,

I also wish to request a clarification of policy from both the External and Resources & Technology Consulates regarding the current tech reserach policy. The External Consulate requests that the research rate by lessened in order to aquire more gold for upgrades, while R&T wishes to increase the research rate.

Thanks,

Would you please put turn chat summaries in the turn chat summary thread? It's nice to know echos of the instructions are available but a short paragraph of what happened during the game play session would be much more useful in my opinion. Us poor slobs who cannot look at the save need a little something so we can keep up with the big picture.

I'm surprised to see we're already up tp 1375 BC.

Thanks,

President,

FYI, IN THIS THREAD (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=116557) I have made a motion that we declare war on India in next turnchat's IT before we commence play. If I need to take additional action, I'd appreciate your advice.

Thanks for your consideration.

President,

Although I don't want to be elevated to the lofty position of External Consul, I'll temporarily continue to serve as deputy so that the game continues to run smoothly until you appoint a new External Consul (at which time I'll resign; the new person certainly should choose his own deputy). I would hope someone new is in place before the next play turn. For tonight's turnchat, I'll be posting the External Consul's instructions later today (no major changes, only some minor updates).

Bertie, thank you for your continued service. :) I hope to be able to appoint someone soon.

If anyone has an interest in filling the External Consul position, please let me know either here or via PM. I do have a candidate in mind but want to be fair to anyone else who might want the job.

Mr President,
Since the use of SGL's is in your area of responsibility and the topic of Wonders is in mine we would either have to have 2 polls or one joint poll. With your permission I will initiate a joint approval poll on the use of the SGL. It will be pretty simple and clear: Do you approve of using our SGL for building Sun Tzu's in Roosting Tree. If it fails then it will be followed by another poll with either another location or another wonder.

Thanks - MOTH

Congratulations President DaveShack on a successful second term. I am about to start setting up my office in preparation for the coming month and have one final question before you start preparing to move to your new office in the courts of justice.

Are we playing with NoAIPatrol=0 or 1?

Well, this term certainly lived up to its' name. Now to finish off the bottom 3rd of this pangaea for this term.

It would be funny if there were a whole other continent to the SE. Probably not though.

I suppose there could be a Tundra continent or Island out there. It would have to be pretty poor to get no starting positions on it.
