1.1An Agricultural Alliance

The Netherlands were founded by several wandering tribes, probably descendants from the Russian tribes to the north, or nomads from the Utrecht plains. The "two brothers", cities Rotterdam and Amsterdam were founded as to form an agricultural alliance. The cities prospered and expanded to form the Netherlands, a unique country. As time passed, the Netherlands became one of the strongest nations in the ancient world, possessing wealth and power, rumored to be equal to the Russians in some aspects.
1.2The "Phony War", and the Occupation of Amsterdam
One of the most controversial parts of the early history of the Netherlands was the war between the Hittites. The Hittites, being ruled by a Zealous king, sought to expand it's borders through the use of warfare. A large tribe of warriors stood on the Utrecht Plains waiting for a sign to attack. The Netherlands were targeted, and the "Phony War" began. Neither citizens of these countries knew about each other, and often made fun of the war. The two countries were far away, and many considered the war a joke (Hence the name "Phony War.").

What was surprising to most of the Dutch citizens was the fact that the Hittite army seemingly wandered into Netherlands. A great panic occurred and the military was quickly created, but it was not fast enough to stop the horde of the Hittite army. Amazingly enough, the capitol of the Netherlands, Amsterdam, was the first and only city to fall under the Hittite army. The King was killed and the threat of invasion was still eminent. The Netherlands quickly sued for peace, hoping to stop the invasion. All of the assets of the country were lost.

The Treaty of Utrecht split the Netherlands into two areas. Amsterdam was to be under direct control of the Hittites. The public was outraged, many called for another war against the Hittites to take back the ancestral homeland of the people. The ruling class of the Netherlands seemed to care less of the troubles the country now faced. It would take several generations before the Netherlands would fight against the oppression of the Hittites.
IPLAY4FUN Mar 29, 2005, 09:40 AM I like the story. It just might not be a good idea to make wonders while in war. keep it comming
garric Mar 29, 2005, 08:24 PM Chapter 2: The Dutch Republic: Seeds of Democracy
2.1 Reclamation of Amsterdam
After the "Phony War" and the occupation of the legendary capital of Amsterdam, the country fell into a great depression. The leadership had failed the country at the greatest need, and Dutch populations in Amsterdam were treated as slaves. A great scare came over both countries as they were put into uncomfortable situations. Military in Hittite Amsterdam was produced at a rapid pace costing the lives of many citizens, as the Hittites lived under a scare that the city will be taken back.

Finally, after discovering the secrets of working with iron ores, a new army plan was devised. Generals sought to recapture the city of Amsterdam and drive the Hittites out of the Netherlands.
2.2 The Hittite War
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/garric/5.jpg
A second war had begun with the capture of Amsterdam. The public found the city to be severely damaged, many men of the population were forced to work in producing arms, and all of the wondrous buildings that once stood there were destroyed. A general anger was sent through the public which forced the leadership to act. Thus..
The war didn't end. Although the main goal was accomplished, the army still moved from the Utrecht plains down towards the homeland of the Hittites. A large battle was fought in the "no man's land". The superior swordsmen of Amsterdam were able to overpower the chariots that once defeated the Dutch army generations ago.

Largely overextended, the Dutch were able to defeat the Hittite army and capture only one city before the war was over. In a turn of events, the city of Harran functioned like Amsterdam did, being occupied by the Dutch army, far away from the center of the nation.

2.3a. The Rebirth of Amsterdam, Birth of the Republic
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/garric/8.jpg
As shown in the prior history, the people had a large effect on the decisions made by the local rulers. Eventually, a semi-peaceful revolution rocked the Netherlands. Popular support for the local barons faded as the people wished for a republic. Some opposition was aroused but eventually was overwhelmed.
The transition to the Republic came smoothly, and the city of Amsterdam began to thrive. Though it never achieved it's dreamed goal of returning as the capitol of the nation, the population bloomed and most of the city was rebuilt, taking it's place as one of the top cities of the nation.
2.3b New Northern Territories
Expansion in the north occurred during this time which helped the country advance into Republicanism. These new cities were built near fertile rivers which allowed great agricultural achievements to take place. The population of these cities grew more rapidly than those in the south.
slyda Apr 02, 2005, 09:06 AM Nice work, please keep writing I would like to see where the Netherlands goes.

garric Apr 08, 2005, 12:06 AM Chapter 3: Expansion and War: The North Desert
3.1 Postwar Sentiments
On the eve of the resolution of the Hittite crisis, The Netherlands were in an interesting position. On one hand, the Hittites were finally expelled from the mainland. Russia had expanded and settled the Utrecht plains indefinitely, protecting the Dutch from others, and the city of Harran stood like an outpost to the outside world. On the other hand, the years of war damaged sciences and arts, and forced the country to become an industrialized and militaristic nation, in a land that was not suited for it. The Netherlands were in a Dark Age while the rest of the world was expanding. Although any army that would want to fight against the Netherlands would have to go through Russia, the country was encased, as if in a vise, to the greatly superior nation.

3.2 Portuguese and the Russian Question
The newly acquired northern territories settled in the deserts north of Amsterdam provided no industrial means, though the agriculture thrived. Several nations came into this land seeking it as a place to expand. The Vikings and the Portuguese settled here before the last lands were claimed by the Netherlands. Also feeling intimidated by the superior Russians, the Portuguese, settled in the lands expecting to expand their empire.
The Russians had grown into a bloated empire, claiming the Utrecht plain as the place for their empire. Their military, wealth, scientific achievements, and land were un-matched. The military power of knights made sure that none dared to provoke war with them, though rarely did it fight.
3.3 The Portuguese War: Domestic
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/garric/10.jpg
3.3a. Early Attack
Being encased between a rock and a hard place, the largely inferior nation of the Portuguese sought to settle in the fertile floodplains in North Netherlands. Two cities were founded but occupied insignificant land. The Portuguese government sought a way to acquire more land through the means of war. War was declared and quickly, the city of Middleburg was taken.
3.3b. Mid-war Crisis
The first years of the war were a failure for both countries. Men were sent to war against opposing factions and were quickly slain by the enemy, with no land being gained on either end. Everyone in the Netherlands disapproved of the war, and everyone sought peace. The Netherlands quickly switched to military production and realized that its borders were safe and that the Portuguese would not break through. The government, instead, in its wisdom decided that all of the cities of the Portuguese would have to be taken if they lay in the territory of the North Desert.
3.3c. Feudalism in the Netherlands
The technology of the Russian military machine soon came into work in the Netherlands. New soldiers were being developed, equipped with superior weapons. An army of the new warriors was created and Middleburg was retaken. The Portuguese were expelled from the North Desert, and the land in the territories became safe and united, save for one Viking colony. But the war was not over. Seeing that the Russian ideas of war were unmatched, a new era of war was ushered in.

garric Apr 10, 2005, 12:50 AM Chapter 4: The Portuguese War: The March to Lisbon
4.1: The End of the Conflict
The Portuguese threat was over in the North desert. The highly inferior army of the Portuguese quickly fell and the North was secured. Veterans of the old army had one more task, to secure Lisbon, the capitol of Portugal and force the country to surrender. Moving through Russian territory, the superior army made it to Guimaraes, and using the city as a place to launch an attack on Lisbon. The capitol was eventually captured and the Portuguese were out of the war.
Chapter 5: Prelude to the Great War: Russo-Hittite War
5.1 Russo-Hittite Conflict
A war had began between the Russians and the Hittites over disputed territories in the Utrecht Plains. Both countries were of reasonable power, but Russia had the clear edge in the conflict, possessing a large force of the most powerful Feudal army in the area. The Russians were clearly the greatest power of the time, so to the world, it seemed that the Hittites would easily fall under the Russians.
The Netherlands were threatened by this war. The Russians were never good allies to the Netherlands, neither were the Hittites, but the Hittites were a balance of power against the Russians. The two Dutch cities, Harran and Breda would be surrounded by the Russians once they won the war, and eventually the Russians would seek to control more than just the Hittites and would eventually overpower the Netherlands to control the land there.
5.2 Dutch Mobilization, Diplomacy in Action
A great plan was set up by the Dutch to cripple the Russians, leaving them as a weak neighbor that could easily be exploited when the time came (Much the like the Portuguese.). While the whole Russian army would be occupied with the Hittites, an offensive on the East would easily succeed. Cities would be captured and a line would separate North Russia from South Russia. It was a wild idea at the time, but eventually, due to skillful diplomacy and technological advancement, the plan worked.
While Russia was still a Feudal power, much like the rest of the world, the Netherlands began its work exploiting gunpowder. New cavalries of gun powder armed armies were trained. Diplomacy was a main tool which caused the Russian collapse. The Portuguese were forced into the war by the Netherlands, and were promised the Northern territories of Russia to expand their empire. The Hittites were already at war with the Russians and were glad to join the Netherlands in an alliance to relieve some pressure on the Western Front. And finally, a decision that the Dutch soon came to regret, the militaristic Crusaders of the Mongols also joined the alliance, making the Quadruple-Alliance against the Russians complete.
5.3 The Overwhelming Victory of the Quadruple-Alliance
The Western Front - The Hittites held back the Russian attack and defended their cities. Seeing that the Netherlands possessed a superior technological army, Russians realized more focus needed to be shifted to the Eastern Front. Freed of the Russian advance, the Hittites began to advance, taking back territories it had lost.
The Eastern Front – A spearhead of an invasion shocked the Russians, cavalry forces quickly overwhelmed cities that were greatly defended. The Russian offensive units were almost inexistent, so the Russians were fighting a defensive battle with feudal units against technologically advanced cavalry. A connection of cities taken by the Dutch army connected the Eastern Netherlands to the Western Netherlands of the Hittite cities.
The Northern Front – The Crusading Mongol army that eagerly joined the war against the Russian army fought with surprisingly high success. Having an army unlike any country expected, it dwarfed all of the combined armies of all of the nations in the war combined. The Crusaders quickly took city after city without any support or cooperation of other nations.
The bloated Russian Monarchy quickly fell. Fighting a war on three fronts, it couldn’t defend itself and eventually caved in under attacks on all sides. Outlying cities were either retaken by the Hittites, or captured by the Netherlands or Mongols. The core cities still remained, and in a secret agreement with the Dutch, the Dutch agreed to stop advancing into Moscow.
And on that note, the Russo-Hittite war was “over”. The term is used loosely because of several conditions. While the Netherlands signed peace with Russia (Giving back most of the cities it captured), and so did Portugal (No gains in territory.), the Crusaders of the Mongols never left and would eventually control all of Russia. The Hittites were continuing their attacks. After the Russo-Hittite War, there was not a moment of peace. What began in the ashes of the glorious Russia was the Great War.

German Soldier Apr 11, 2005, 10:42 AM Please update pictures, why don't you make amsterdam the capital again? i see its bigger than rotherdamn, how do you get those pictures, please tell me cause i'm havivng the greates game ever but i can't post pictures from my gae? how do you do it? thanks, i'll be waiting to see more.
Dachs Apr 11, 2005, 11:22 AM He's probably too busy to build a palace, and Amsterdam is close enough to Rotterdam to decrease corruption enough so that its effect is negligible. He might do it when he needs a prebuild, or finds it appropriate in the story.
We'd all like pictures from the Russo-Hittite War, though.
