Look at all of that land to the north of these two (soon to be three) Dutch cities. That can be ours. Pump out an army of horsemen. Raze these cities. Then use the horsemen to guard the large expanse of unclaimed land while marching settlers to their destinations.

I 100 % agree, we should not take out the isolated Indians, but open up the Northern frontier for sudden expansion. Look at how the Dutch quickly box us in.

I do not see why we cannot settle those northern lands ourselfs....is this war just simply a means to have neat borders?

We can be ready to attack the Indian's at least 10-20 turns earlier than the Dutch and be done in 8 turns and still attack the Dutch at about the same time. If we attack the Dutch first then the Indian's will just fill the gaps and we will have gained little ground. Let the Dutch colonize the lands to the NE of us and then we can just go in and take ownership later.

Personally, I vote for the Dutch. They are clearly a threat to our nation. The longer they are in the game, the longer they will be a harmful force in the progress of Fanatannia.

One of the objectives in the Dutch war would be to take away their Iron. The Dutch city to the North sitting on the Iron is about 12 moves from our current borders. India's cities are only about 2 moves from our current borders. So it will take us 10-20 turns to get enough units that far North after upgrading to Swords.

Who says we need to use swords? With a horseman's movement of two, they'll be the terror force of the ancient age, able to reinforce any of our positions within turns. Because of the distance, swords would take too long. Let us mount our warriors, not armor them.

We have many warriors right now that can be upgrade to Swords. We will begin construction of Chariots, but we don't know how to mount our warriors right now. I know that one of my horses tried to mount me and that was just too scary. Perhaps we will learn how to ride the backs of these beasts, but it willbe most efficient to arm our current warriors with Swords and go after the Indian barbarians first and then send the mounted troops North to meet up with the Swordsmen attacking the Dutch.

Ride them down and chop of their heads where they are still stumbling in their clogs, speaking of the future demise of the Dutch infantry given a contractual death warrant.

After we upgrade our warriors and send them to war, who's to remain to defend us? Would it not be better to acquire horseback riding and have a mounted unit that can spread terror all the way to the age of cavalry?

I abstained, because I would support either war, as long as it is at the right time.

Eventually we’re going to want to expand at least to China’s borders, so we’ll be going to war with both India and the Netherlands. It’s still early in the game so our military strength is pathetic; we can’t go to war with both of these civs at the same time. This suggests India should be the first target.

Why?

First, because we’ve poached India’s iron it’s likely they’ll declare war on us sometime during the next 10-15 turns, so we might as well fight on our terms, not theirs. Second, because the objectives of our first Indian war are limited – we want only to capture Delhi and Bombay – we will be ready for this war soon, and it won’t last long. Once we secure these two cities we eliminate the chance that Bentley might culture flip to the Indians; we gain Bombay’s spice; and we fatally stunt India’s growth.

More importantly, this furthers our plans for the Dutch war: hopefully we train some elite troops and we move part of our army north and within easy striking distance of the Netherlands’ most industrious and important cities. The Dutch war requires more preparation time and more troops than the Indian war. By attacking the Indians first we make productive use of the time it will take to build the army that will attack the Dutch from the south.

Right now I can see that (at the time of this post) that the nation is deaply divided on this issue.
