View Full Version : The Camelot Times
mhcarver Mar 29, 2005, 06:05 PM Well with the nations most well known media baron taking a step back to run the nations highest court perennial Judge Advocate Candidate Mhcarver saw his chance to become Fannatania’s next great Media Baron. Upon setting up shop in Fannatania Carver began to set up the Camelot times, the nations second newspaper. Though he new he didn’t have Provolution’s writing skills he knew that the people believed what the press told them and as a former casino director in a far of reality called “Japanatica” he knew how to pull some very cheap tricks. The first being that instead of actually reporting everything himself he realized he could make boatloads by getting help and not just writing all the articles himself.

mhcarver Mar 29, 2005, 06:06 PM Term 2 election coverage/analysis)
Election Analysis
Overall
Despite quite few uncontested elections the elections for the second Government in our great nations history. The election can be seen as a referendum on the nations next military actions, primarily because though there seems to be an agreement that the nation wishes to go to war with one of our obnoxious continental neighbors , its unclear who gets to join the great nation first. The candidates for major expansion related offices broke off into two clusters, Dutch first and India first. The Dutch first candidates achieved a significant victory by winning elections to the Commander of the Armed Forces, however India First candidate Mad-Bax easily won election as Consul of External policy possibly due to the mistaken endorsement of Military leader CivGeneral. Though polling has been done on the issue expect the early part of this term to largely focus on preparing for our nations first war.
Presidency
Incumbent President Daveshack easily won re-election from the growing nation of Fannatania. This was not a very shocking surprise seeing as to no candidates had emerged to challenge the popular incumbent for the spot as leader of the Government that he helped to create. Almost former candidate Civanator, a reclusive militarist did not reply to attempts by the President to nominate him and a character known as nobody(Head of the legitimate Businessmen’s club) declined to instead pursue a fruitless campaign for consul of external policy. The President can also link his popularity to being a founding father and quasi-wartime President as the nation prepares for a continental campaign to right the wrong of not owning enough land or resources , or as the President himself put it, “to raise our nation from mediocrity to dominance”
Resource and Technology Consul
Deputy Consul RegentMan defeated second time candidate truckingpete by a nearly 2-1 margin in order to secure a promotion. RegentMan ran is most well known for his avid campaign against spending public funding on “Philosophy” a strange idea that some believe will lead to enlightenment. Because of public support for the research he will likely be unable to undo the move to study philosophy. He also advocated future study of a strange technique that far away travelers and sages have called “Map Making”. Regent was also a supporter of the Dutch war first but it is unclear how much influence his office will have over that.
Judiciary
Well, the court appears to be gearing up for an interesting term. Controversial and well known Public Defender Ravensfire left the bench and was replaced by Chief Justice Black_Hole , who cited challenges and general frustratopm as reaspms for leaving as CJ. However , in an interesting twist of Judiciary critic, Culture Minister, and media baron Provolution , who is known for his many attempts to re-organize the Government defeated long time rival and former Public Defender candidate Blackheart to become the next chief justice. Provolution ran a campaign based mainly on providing an impartial judiciary and not proposing any amendments. In the Judges Advocate race , Incumbent Ashburnham defeated perennial candidate Mhcarver for the second time, though this time by much more than the 34%-30% margin that separated the two the previous term. This terms court should be interesting as Public Defender elect and outgoing CJ Black_Hole endorsed CJ elect provolutions opponent and said “He won’t mess around with the constitution”. Look for an interesting term in the court.
Culture Consul
In the Culture Consul race Domestic Consul Moth won a tight race over Culture Secretary Xerol. The consisted of little campaigning by either candidate after the opening of election threads. The primary difference between the two was there strategy for achieving a “culture victory” with Moth favoring building up settlers loyal fannatians and using military might while Xerol favored building large numbers of magnificent structures called “wonders” to awe our enemies.
Director of Infrastructure
In a race with very little fanfare or debate Incumbent Chieftess defeated External Consul Deputy Ulyaoth by a 58-41% margin . Ulyaoth, who was nearly elected External consul before term 1 , led the well known incumbent on several occasions.
Consul of Domestic Policy
In this race Governor Ginger_Ale defeated Citizen YNCS by a narrow margin of 52-47% in a race that saw several ties and lead changes. Both candidates were amazingly similar and ran on almost identical platforms, meaning that Ginger Ales experience as Governor the previous term likely gave him name recognition and one or two more votes. Both Candidates were willing to commit a single city to the building of wonders, were wary of trying to win over our enemies with our culture and each favored some degree of expanding the empire using our sea-faring capabilities.
Director of Expansion
Incumbent Director Snipelfritz easily won re-election over an unkown opponent with 72% of the vote. The only campaign pledge made by the incumbent was that all for a strategy of surrounding our enemies cities and “flipping” them to us.
Director of Commerce
In a race with practically no contest at all Incumbent Octavian X won a second term uncontested. After winning the race Octavian X laughed at the nations citizenry for letting him win so easily twice.
Governor of Fanashire
In another lackluster race , Lieutanant Governor Noldodan won an uncontested election to fill the slot left by outgoing Governor/Domestic Minister elect Ginger_Ale.
mhcarver Mar 29, 2005, 06:07 PM From the Office of the External Consul
Dear Sir,
There has been much talk about impending war with our neighbouring countries and I would like to put forward the considered view of the External Consul regarding this important matter.
Our empire needs to expand. The primary inhibitor to this is the Dutch expansion. This is clear. The Indians are locked in a corner and pose little threat to us. So why then should we go to war with them before the Dutch? It is counter-intuitive. However, there are good reasons and I list them below.
1. War against the Indians will be easier than war against the Dutch, since they are weaker.
2. We can secure our iron near Delhi on the first turn, and remove the flip risk that Bentley represents now.
3. We can secure a second luxury quicker (6 turns of war) and thus reduce our slider earlier.
4. The indian war will be very short, and we can gain all we need to gain by capturing only 2 cities.
5. Since we do not need the Northern Indian cities right now, a peace deal will allow us to catch up in tech if we need to.
6. The two Indian cities targeted will not be razed. Thus we save the time and shields required to re-settle these sites.
7. Once we have captured the 2 Indian cities, our army will be poised to strike at the Dutch core, rather than at less important outlying cities. We can disassemble the Dutch empire from the inside out. This means their productive cities will die first, and their iron will be disconnected early, making the rest of the war easier, and shorter.
8. Attacking the Dutch first means mounting our attack from the outside in, and consequently we will be attacking the weaker, less important cities first.
9. Attacking the oulying cities first means that more cities will be autorazed at size 1 and therefore we will need to build settlers to fill the void. This takes time, and we could just replace the problem of the Dutch filling our space with the Chinese filling our Space. If that happens we will have a problem. We cannot fight the Chinese yet - for all sorts of reasons that I won't list here.
10. The outlying Dutch cities will not be building big ticket items like wonders and markets. Once threatened, these cities will whip spears. This means that not only will we have to defeat more units, but we will also autoraze even more cities.
11. By Attacking the Dutch from the outside in, it means that their core will be operational for longer. Their core will be capable of building swords at a rate that we cannot match. As a result we will face even more units.
12. If we take the small cities and leave the big cities, at the end of the war the Dutch will not be very much weakened. Their core will be in tact. They will still have iron. They will still have spices, and we won't. Our gain will be minimal.
13. By destroying the smaller Dutch cities, when we make a peace treaty we will not be able to take Dutch cities in the deal. They will not give them up.
Overall, taking on the Dutch first is the obvious choice because they pose the threat. But once you scratch the surface you can only come to realise that this would be tactically naive and we would not gain nearly as much, nor would we cause nearly as much grief to our opponents. A vote for a Dutch war is a vote for no silks, for no spices and for no additional sources of iron and horses. A vote for the Dutch war is vote for a smaller empire, with an even more dangerous neighbor (the Chinese) and the promise of more difficult wars in the near future against Swiss Mercenaries and the resourceless Elephant unit. Wars against either of these units will trigger the opponents GA's and the cost will be high.
There is no redeeming argument for a Dutch war before India. The game will turn on it. I guess if you ask the question "Should we fight the Indians first or the Dutch?" you may just as well ask "Do you want to win the game, or would you prefer to spend 200 turns losing it?"
Yours faithfully
mad-bax

Dear Sir,
Why didn't the citizens elect the charming, handsome and witty Classical Hero?
Regards, Classical Hero.
Dear Sir or Madam,
An interesting turn of events has occured in the Judiciary. former/still-acting CJ turned PD Black_hole has temporarily extended his tenure, along with Ashburnham. Although Black_hole isn't officially CJ and no CJ pro tempore has been instated. There is now clearcut answer for this turn of events in the Constitution, and it will prove interesting as to how the strict interpreters of the constitution will react this.
Yours truly,
Blackheart
Dear Sir,
Why are dragging my name through the mud? I might be a drunkard,:vomit:
but that does not mean I am incoherent. Why gotta send a horses head for that? Don't talk about my wife, she is lovely. Isn't today a beautiful day? I think I am going to be sick.:vomit:
PS. If you find any vomit on the letter, please just remove it. Boy my head hurt from all this writing. I must lie down for a few minutes before doing whatever I do.
Regards, Classica Musica, with the help of my wife, Natalia.
Dear Editor,
It has come to my attention that we have been attacked by two foriegn nations. I'll be able to defeat them with my own two fists. Let me at 'em. I'll show this great nation how to fight.
Regards, Classica Musica, still sobering up.
Dear Editor,
It has come to the attention of my office that rumors are spreading around the capitol that the Office of Commerce has issued an order allowing for a declaration of war against Gandhi and the Empire of India.
This is a lie. There will be no war with India. In fact, we love India and Gandhi very dearly, and would absolutely never think of attacking our beloved friends and neighbors.
In addition, we ask that all would-be dissenters, protesters, and draft-dodgers of the War of Indian Annexation, as well as spies from India itself, please report immeadiately to convientely placed detention centers at the city's outskirts.
Sincerely,
Octavian X

Letter to the Editor.
Dear Sir,
It appears to me that the discussion surrounding our constitution has stalled for many reasons. For my part however, I was never a "Traditionalist" as has been claimed. I enquired as to the policy and aspirations of this citezens group, and actually found myself diametricaly opposed to their view. Inspection of the early part of this thread will bear out my testimony.
Instead, I have tried, and continue to try, to approach the resolution of issues that may (or indeed may not) exist within the constitution from a purely pragmatic and objective angle. Rather than embroil myself in the tangle of personal prejudice, personality clashes, and oftentimes juvenile ranting in the Traditionalists thread I am attempting to work with the President in proposing ammentdments to the constitution that resolve the root causes of the problems that lie therin. Such an approach is a journey, since it does not allow for the presupposition of solutions. The approach is to identify the real problems and then the root causes of those problems. Once that process is completed, only then can we hope to find real and lasting solutions to the problems.
For all these reasons, it is impossible for me to hold a point a view on what changes need to be made to the constitution, or whether the tradidtional method was better or not. Only when the problems are identified can I begin to form such an opinion.
What was it the Mark Twain once say... Something like "Better to remain silent and appear a fool, than open ones mouth and remove all doubt". When I have an opinion that I can support, I will voice it.
Yours faithfully,
mad-bax
Dear Editor,
It has come to my knowledge that some people are flipflopping over their views. I prefer if we'd keep one opinion and keep it to ourselves, just like what I am going to say. I think that we should be warring with every nation, but after talking to my mistress, I mean wife, I do hope she does not read the letters to the editor section. She said that she would never see me again if I did not change my views, so I think we should be at peace with every nation. My point is, never change you opinion unless it does not suit you any more.
Regard, Classica Musica. Remembering his POV.
Dear Editor,
There is another citizen group upon us: The RPGists. Our aim is to restore the lively past of the now dying RPG. If anyone wishes to join, sign up in the thread. If anyone feels like starting a story/game, do that over in the RPG forum. Hopefully our aim will be achieved and everyone will have fun along the way!
Sincerely,
RegentMan

Black_Hole Apr 02, 2005, 08:56 AM You got the judicial elections a bit wrong Mr Editor:
I left the CJ position for 2 reasons:
1. It is a very tough position to keep up with
2. It wasnt a very fun position to be in
How onto this term:
There is no law stating the judcial thread had to be posted by the CJ. The thread, I made is only temporary.... It is not last terms court, because Ashburnham and I are in this court. We were looking for a pro term chief justice, but Ashburnham haad to leave, so the court is now in a stalemate. I may or may not appoint pro term justices, but Provolution will be back on April 4th.
Also might I apply for the Political Analyst/reporter?

Black_Hole Apr 02, 2005, 12:03 PM Vice President Nomination & The Inaugeration Address
By Black_Hole
President DaveShack has nominated TimBentley to the seat of Vice President. DaveShack said one of the largest reasons Mr. Bentley was nominated, was because he had conquests. This means the Presient will be using the CoC for some of his turnchats. This is a welcome plus to some and not to others. Please send your view to the editor, as he would welcome any comments on this matter.
In his inaugeration addresss, President DaveShack set forth a few goals for the term. These include: holding neighbors down, use his leadership to make sure this game doesn't fall, be average with all other civs in terms of military strenght, and obtain 2-3 luxuries plus a monopoly on a luxury.
Time will tell how many of these goals can be met.

War is Eminent
Conflict will most likely be with Netherlands
Most people already know that war is here, well almost. If you had no clue that battles will soon be fought, try to catch up on this news. While the war will most likely be with Holland, there is a small chance that India may have to face our army. Our force is very weak at the moment. We will need iron swords to win this war. Well that's all the war news for now, but remeber citizens of Camelot and all Fannatania, don't buy tulips.

mhcarver Apr 03, 2005, 03:18 PM It has been confirmed that Commander of the Armed forced Civgeneral has switched across party lines. CG was elected this term in a landslide margin over deputy ali on a platform of the dutch war first. This move brings CG's main ideas into line with that of influential and vocal external consul Mad-Bax. Plans for an invasion of India are already underway.

blackheart Apr 03, 2005, 08:23 PM CivGeneral's Indian War Plan
After reviewing Commander of the Armed Forces CivGeneral's war plan, it is found to have a high probability of succeeding, given that there are enough troops and an extra amphibious landing is executed. The plan also calls for bravery and courage from our swordsmen, which they will undoubtedly show.
The plan calls for the quick capture of the city via a blitz tactic. Send in a group of swordmen to secure the city and branch off from there. An idea by a citizen was also pitched in to amphibiously land a spearman "behind" Delhi to cut off any reinforcements to the city, it is under consideration.
After the initial siege and capture of Delhi, the main army will branch off into seperate parts, one will take the inner city of Bangalore, while the other part will advance and take the coastal Indian cities.
The plan calls for the capture of all coastal Indian cities and border cities. It is not intended to completely conquer, but instead to fully encircle remaining Indians and cut them from the world.

Yes, it has come to the Camelot Times attention that people are conspiring to overthrow our beloved empereor and proclaim him as a king or a consul. the names of these governments are monarchy and republic. it has been said that in monarachy the people enjoy war and never revolt due to it yet crime is a constant problem. in republic the people don't usually revolt from war but it is possible, also as in monarchy crime is constant but no as bad.The conspirers are currently debating which one to use and we have reason to believe that they will soon vote. No matter what happens, one thing is for certain, there will either be a new government or many executions for treason.

Octavian X Apr 13, 2005, 05:24 PM Dear Editor,
It has come to the attention of my office that rumors are spreading around the capitol that the Office of Commerce has issued an order allowing for a declaration of war against Gandhi and the Empire of India.
Sincerely,
Octavian X
Director of Commerce

Black_Hole Apr 13, 2005, 05:49 PM Turnchat Privatization: The shake of the old order
by CivGeneral, Freelance Reporter
It has come to my attention that an established system has come under attack once again. I’m not talking about the Privatization of Social Security, but I am talking about the Privatization of the Turnchat. Public Turnchats has been established in the first demogame for the porpoise for citizens to witness the play by play turns of the game save. The Turnchat, before the implication of the law that leaders cannot change their orders mid-turn, have also been used as a communications medium between department leaders and the DP. A benefit of the Turnchat is that the citizens, acting as judicial watchdogs, can watch the DP follow the instructions and ensure that it is followed.
There is a new, disturbing movement that the topic of turnchat privatization would happen. This would result in disenfranchising, alienation, and de-democratizing of the demogame. The signs of Turnchat Privatization are happening has been around for a while. One key in the signs is the removal of the will of the people from the chat. "The public turnchat has, for the most part, had whatever truly legal power it once had for the most part removed in favor of the forum." - Octavian X. The division between Public, Private, and Turnchat elimination has been around since the start of the turnchats. There are three groups of people. First are the Public Turnchaters, they are the ones who wish to keep the turnchat public and wish to bring the turnchat back to its former glory. Second are the Privatized Turnchaters, they are the ones who wish to see only a select few (Possibly elected officials) to attend the turnchat. Lastly are the Turnchat Eliminators, these are the people whom want the turnchats to be eliminated entirely and have the majority of the powers in the forum.
The privatization of the turnchat will force people to feel that they have been alienated from a privilege that has been set since the start of the first demogame. The reasons to privatize the turnchat is to be "less distracting for Presidents, and could occur with lesser possible incidence of turnchat attendees having undue influence over turn play." - Octavian X. To me and others who support keeping the turnchat public, it’s a sign of the DP and the president shunting the citizens away from the turnchats. DPs and Presidents don’t have to follow the influences of the turnchat attendees. "If a DP does not want to be influenced by those inside of the turnchat, then fine. However, a Public turnchat will insure that there is no foul play, period." - Strider.
The turnchats are soon to be doomed to be just a distant memory of the demogame past to the oldbies.

how is it "de-democratizing"? Oh wait I see, it pulls away from small group democracy. Now the people at the chat do not get to control the game more than the forum goers.... this is a huge democracy breech.... what were we thinking?
CivGeneral Apr 13, 2005, 07:14 PM ahhh, I get it.... so the directors shouldnt follow the will of the people? the consuls take care of long term plans and the WOTP. Its not beoucracy, its democracy!
BH - I have removed that article due to change of opinion.
I may be considering on removing the privization of the turnchats.
Octavian X Apr 13, 2005, 07:21 PM Though, for the record (and believe me, I absolutely hate doing this) - it's bureaucracy.
greekguy Apr 13, 2005, 07:39 PM Trading Options Galore- Controversial?
by: greekguy, trade reporter
Our nation is currently discussing numerous possibilities pertaining to technology trading. Most notably is the proposal put forth by Octavian X, which would have us give up an almost monopoly technology, Construction, for all the tradable assests of the Mayan nation. Some citizens support the deal, pointing out it will put us within grasp of the Middle Ages once we discover the secrets of currency. Opponents of the exchange cite that it will help speed up the AI-AI trade rate, and will mean that our great nation will face feared Swiss Mercenaries whilst trying to conquer the Dutch. This debate has become controversial between Octavian X and his supporters and the opposition who are desperately trying to stop the trade from occuring. On another note, a trade that has been confirmed will happen at the next turn chat. Fabled Spanish workers will be bought to service our great nation anyway they can. Fantannia, in return, is offering the great technology of Philosiphy. With all these trades our empire will surely rise in greatness and continue its destiny towards world supremacy by any means.

@civgeneral- there was nothing wrong with the second article. it shows the controversy of the issue and your opinon, perfectly fine.

CivGeneral Apr 18, 2005, 03:46 AM The Silent Minority
The fall of the Traditionalits
By Freelance Writer, CivGeneral
The citizens group known as the Traditionalits has became less active in recent weeks. Mainly some of the members are questoning the future about the group. One example is Mad-bax, he is/was a member of the Traditionalits, but apperently (through observation of my eyes) have left. "I read it today to see if anything had changed. But it hasn't has it? And it won't, will it?" - Mad-Bax. I myself dislike the new government structure of the government and joined the Traditionalits to push forward the old government system. Apperently its not going as fast or sucsessful as planned. This is basicly my introduction to what I call the "Silent Minority".
Many of you have hear about the "Silent Majority" which is a term used by Richard Nixon to refer "the large number of people in a country or group who do not express their opinions publicly." (Wiki). The "Silent Minority" is like the "Silent Majority", the only key difference is that there are less people in a "Silent Minority". I found myself slipping slowly into the "Silent Minority" by refusing to express my opinions in a thread regardning changes to the new alternative government consitution. "Devout Silent Minorites" would also tend to accept and tolerate the new alternative government consitution and varey rarely or even never express their opinions in a thread regarding changes to the new alternative government consitution.
Disclamer: The article only expresses the author's opinion based on what he has observed in both personal level and sociological level in the demogame.
mad-bax Apr 18, 2005, 06:27 AM A Letter to the Editor.
Dear Sir,
It appears to me that the discussion surrounding our constitution has stalled for many reasons.
Yours faithfully,
mad-bax

classical_hero Apr 21, 2005, 08:43 AM Dear Editor,
It has come to my knowledge that some people are flipflopping over their views.

I have begun this campaign because I feel like I am the best person for the job and am very well experienced in judicial matters. As the editor of the greatest paper in our land I have brought you fair and unbiased coverage. Because of this and reasons you can see in the nominations area I encourage all citizens to vote Mhcarver for Judge Advocate
Sincerely

any other campaigns that wish to post advertisements here feel free to do so, I will be more than hapy to hear your side of the story.
RoboPig Apr 24, 2005, 04:07 PM Bored? Provolutia is your city!
That's right, if you are bored of sitting around Camelot then i know the place for you. Only two days by coach, it sits under the shadow of Mount Dave and next to the Fanasharian fields. This is a greating setting for eco tourism. Many local sherpas will help you reach Mt. Dave's windy top. Cattle farms scatter the scenic countryside. You can visit these farms for a small price, great if you have kids that want a little more fun. These farms supply all the tender beef that you can find in Provolutia's many steakhouses. Remember to buy as much wine as you want. It comes cheap and you can buy it by the casket. Remember to sit in the non smoking section since the residents of the area (as well as many tourists) smoke heavily due to the excess tobacco. There is a wonderful Court building and many other cultural attractions around the city. The best time to go is when the rains are over, it is peak tourist season in the area. Enjoy your trip and I look forward to writing more Entertainment reports! :)

greekguy Apr 24, 2005, 05:21 PM Which Luxuries for our Great Nation?
by greekguy, trade reporter
Our nation is currently disscussing several possible trade options. The proposals were brought to the nation's attention by our Resource and Technology Consul RegentMan. We can currently trade for famous Portuguese Ivory or fabled Mayan fur. Already people are talking about which size their new fur hats will be or thier new ivory rings, considering the deals have gotten a great deal of support. Though most people only support one trade, it looks like either Portugal or Maya will soon be receiving our emissaries, looking for some fabulous luxuries.

by vikingruler, Domestic Affairs Reporter
As our mighty army continues to claim Dutch cities in the name of Fantannia, we have to deal with the captured citizens. In light of the fact that our government will soon be changing, our leaders have decided to use their despotic authority one last time. This will be achieved by brutally whipping the Dutch infidels to death, to hurry production. Improvements such as temples will be finished in record time thanks to the mass whipping. City revolt will also be prevented due to the lack of resistance.

mhcarver Apr 28, 2005, 04:29 PM President
An Open Presidency! In a shocking announcement to the Fannatanian people in the center of Camelot Square President Daveshack, the only leader our republic has ever known announced that he would step down, thus creating the first open presidency in our history, and with a virtually invisible Vice President, no clear successor. This race centered around three candidates, Infrastructure Director Chieftess was the first to announce her candidacy and quickly gained an edge in fund raising. The next Candidate to announce was controversial and flamboyant Chief Justice Provolution, who may have been considered a favorite at one point if it had not been for his being jailed by the secret police, thus ruining his candidacy. But neither of these candidates was able to match wits with citizen Furiey. Furiey, a relatively unkown citizen entered the race at the filling deadline and with a promise to provide information to the people easily was able to use her oratorical abilities to defeat both of her opponents decisively winning with 58% of the vote, in fact she did such a good job that Chief Justice Provolution quickly conceded the race to her.
Commander of the Armed forces
In perhaps one of the most silent elections one of the most shocking results was achieved. In this election to term incumbent Civgeneral , who had easily won two previous terms as leader of the armed forces was unceremiously removed from office by voters in favor of relatively unkown citizen ZYXY by a 58-35% margin. Though CG did not do a poor job as leader as evidenced by our nations ongoing expansion there was a general feeling among the populace that a new leader was needed to keep things fresh after two terms. Not mentioned by any voters may be the switchgate scandal which though not critizised publicly could have in some way hurt CG’s election chances
Chief Justice
In this open race to head the highest court in the land President Daveshack defeated frequent dissident and controversial citizen strider by an almost 2-1 margin. Both candidates each advocated changes in the way that CC’s were processed but differed on the issue of how our Government should be ran with the President in favor of keeping our constitution while Strider favored changing it to what he referred to as a “traditional style”. DS also disagreed with strider on the issue of whether a CJ should be allowed to propose amendments and refused to take a pledge not to. This terms court should be drastically different than the previous one.
Judge Advocate
In this race to replace the retiring JA Ashburnham Camelot Times Owner/Editor in Chief and perennial candidate Mhcarver easily defeated the relatively unkown Curinfwe with a vote percentage in the high 70’s. Carver ran a somewhat better campaign pledging to show a backbone and actually win on his third try.
External Consul
The race for External consul was marked by Deputy/acting consul Bertie receiving a mandate from the people to a full term. Bertie had been acting as external consul since the resignation of popular consul Mad-Bax(now the Governor-elect of fanashire) when he cited a lack of influence by the office. Bertie marked his term as the not external consulate by following up on a significant number of mad-bax’s policies and doing generally effective work. Bertie ran against rumored crime boss Nobody who ran a campaign with generally similar objectives but differed with him on several other points. With Voter approved amendments giving more power to the external consul this will be an interesting term
Resource and Technology Consul
Regent man joined Civgeneral as one of the first two elected officials to ever be turned out of office by the citizenry. In this race popular citizen Rikmeleet won the race by a desisive margin with 57% of the vote, beating out incumbent consul RegentMan and third time candidate truckingpete who each had 17%, Acting Camelot Times editor robopig placed a distant fourth with 8% of the vote. RikMeleet ran a campaign that criticized the previous RM administration for neglect and poor planning of the nations long term goals. He advocated increasing the nations luxury tax and overthrowing the government to better suit its needs. Regentman did not formally respond to these accusations but did issue statement that argued for waiting to see what other nations technology was like and lowering the science rate in the event of a second war. Though RegentMan did vastly differ from the first R and T consul he was generally similar in other methods of philosophy the election of Rikmeleet may mark a drastic change in the nations attitude toward R & T policy.
Culture Consul
Newly Psychotic militant and former R &T minister Stuck as a Mac defeated Journalist Vikingruler by a 56-43% margin. Both candidates each generally agreed that the nation was in more need of things such as monuments in order to become a more affluent nation that would have a strong influence on world affairs based entirely upon it’s greatness. The two differed on the issue of whether or not enemy cities should be burnt to the ground in order to make our culture appear better. Stuck may have been helped by the fact he was well known by the people of the nation for his previous works wereas Vikingruler has only been the reporter on Domestic affairs for about one term. This term could be very entertaining if the new culture minister decides to go for a wonder and ends up having to argue against Fanashire Governor elect Mad-Bax who has already stated he is against the building of great cultural monuments.

mhcarver May 04, 2005, 02:22 PM Former President Daveshack and ex- Judge advocate Ashburnham speak out against relocating capitol
In a public debate about relocating our nations capitol former Judge Advocate Ashburnham and Daveshack strongly spoke out agains the dastardly plan to re-locate our capitol soly based on numbers with complete disregard to any kind of capitol. I am in full agreement with my former JA candidate archrival
their responses reprinted:
Looks like I'm the minority here, but I'm extremely against building a new palace. There's more to government than simply rooting out corruption. That's what the FP is for. Let's build that in a central location and be done with it. Moving the capital is, in my mind, an extremely gamey and unsporting move. Should America move their capital to South Dakota? Should China move their capital to the Gobi? It's simply not something a responsible government does. Let's not forget, we are trying to simulate a real government.
There's history in a capital. There's tradition. There's the feeling that no matter how for we expand or how much we advance, this city was our foundation, our rock. Rejecting all that simply because it will net us a few more gold per turn would be a great diservice to the cultural roots of our nation. Let's not forget, this is Camelot we're talking about. The mythical court of the greatest ruler in England's history. Arthur was the paragon of all that English royalty aspire to, and Camelot is an embodiment of that fact. Removing the palace from Camelot is tatamount to killing off the only ties to our civilization we would have.
Don't let this happen. Don't sever the roots of Fanatannia solely for the sake of being gamey.
Moving the palace is even more of a waste of resources than building an Ancient Age wonder. We would be spending those shields for a slight change in corruption, in a small number of cities at best. A MGL would be better used on completing the FP, a small wonder, or building an army, and a SGL had better be used for something important like Leo's, or Smith's. If we hand build, I would estimate (don't feel like looking up the shield costs ) that city could have a temple, library, market, aqueduct, cathedral, and university for the same cost!

greekguy May 05, 2005, 02:27 PM Dutch War Update
by: greekguy, wartime reporter
This is an update on the progress our great nation has had in their conquest of the Dutch people. So far there have been some major successes, along with a few minor setbacks. Over the course of several decades, we blitzed the Dutch for several cities. Our mighty armies took The Hague, Groningen, Rotterdam, Haarlem, Utrecht, Maastrict, and Holwerd. These cities were promptly renamed something less Dutch (in order): The Black Hole, Sebadoh, Chaos, Skye, Halls of Mandos, Regentham, and Strider's Haven. After that things started to slow down. As our forces we assembling for an all-out attack on the Netherlands' biggest cites, the enemy starting poking holes in our defenses. First, a stack of 3 workers were caputured, after the brave swordsman divison died defending them. Next the city of Auchtermuchty was captured by a spearmen who slipped through our defenses and took over the empty town. Next, the town of Sebadoh "flipped" to the Dutch, due to an overwhelming majority of foreign nationals who supported the culture of their homeland. These setbacks however, were paid for in Dutch blood, when our Main Attack Force struck into the Dutch heartland and razed Arnhem to the ground. That's all from the Dutch front, but there are of course other wars to talk about. Our nation is still engaged in a "phony" war with the Persians, due too the fact they are to far away to attack us. Also we have signed many Millitary Alliances recently with several nations against the Byzantines. The foolish Byzantine people stood up to our power and will now pay for it when Mayan, Portuguese, Japanese, Hittite, and Chinese armies march on their land.

I find that funny. The Byzantines foolishly declared war upon us, and as punishment for such dastardly acts, they will fall to the Mayans, Portuguese, Japanese, Hittites, and the Chinese...

greekguy May 14, 2005, 06:17 PM Peace With The Netherlands
by: greekguy, wartime reporter
Peace has been signed and the war with the Dutch nation has come to an end. It was a long, hard fought war, which greatly reduced Dutch power and made us the leader of the world based on score. During the war, our armies captured all major Dutch cities, leaving them with the small, meaningless cites of Leiden and Delft. Our armies were led to victory by our excellent Commander of the Armed Forces zyxy. His brillant attack plans defeated the Dutch in battle after battle. Our esteemed External Consul Bertie, then negotiated peace. In exchange for 41 gold and agreeing to spare them, the Dutch in turn, gave us the notions of Monotheism and Fedualism. Now with the Dutch out of the way, our armies moved against India, taking most of what's left of their country. Once we decimate what's left of their nation, we will have the entire subcontinent to ourselves and continue on to world domination, by means of culture of course.

greekguy May 19, 2005, 05:44 PM Another War... Another Victory... a Nation Destroyed?!?!
by: greekguy, wartime reporter
It is true, our mighty armies have attacked again. This time it was a second attack on India, which ended with the demise of the Indian nation. Our brillant Commander again organized amazing attack plans, which spelt doom to the Indians in a mere two turnchats. The Fantannian army invaded and took/razed the Indian cities Bangalore, Karachi, Kolhapur, Jaipur, Hyderbad, Bengal. We also retook Delhi, which we conquered in the 1st Indian War, but traitors eventually took over the town and we lost it in a cultural conversion. Our armies were particulary cruel, looting and pillaging the city and killing all the traitors. Now with Ghandi out of the way the entire subcontinent of FanDutchIndania (it needs a name) belongs to the mighty people of Fantannia. Also, our forces participated in a campaign to attack two French colony cities. One division, Steven's Swordsmen, which is renowned for bravery, skill in battle, and stunning good looks, (just like the guy who sponsered the name) was so successful in battle, the Millitary Great Leader Edward emerged. There is now talk all over our country how to utilize Edward and our amazing, incredible, exceptional, unit Steven's Swordsmen.

YNCS May 26, 2005, 07:32 PM Dear Editor,
How are you? I am fine. How is Mrs. Editor and all the little Editors? I hope they are alive and well.
Now that the chitchat is out of the way, I'd like to bring up a problem I noticed last Sunday. I logged into the TC at approximately 1000 (10 am) local time (EDT). The first turn was already in progress. It took almost 9 hours to complete the session, until 1900 (7 pm, for those who have problems subtracting 12). May I suggest that TCs be limited to five game turns instead of the present 10?
Thank you for your patience and say hello to my mistress the wife for me.
Sincerely,
YNCS
RoboPig May 30, 2005, 05:10 PM perhaps you should write a letter to the president as well.
mhcarver Jun 01, 2005, 02:37 PM well, this term saw very few contested elections but the few that were contested were quite interesting.
President
This race became an open seat when President Furiey announced that she would be unable to seek a second term. The first candidate to announce was Vice President and former Infrastructure director Chieftess . it appeared as if the race would go uncontested but was marked by the last second entry of former commerce director Octavian X. There was very little debate to speak of and the only thing that even appeared like a platform was chieftess stating that we needed to push into several foreign nations. CT also pitched her past experience as VP and other leadership experience. Octavian's campaign was marked mainly by him stating that he would make some standard pledges and was only running to prevent an uncontested election.
Culture Minister
In this race former Resource and Technology consul candidate, frequent drunkard and grumpy letter to the editor writer Classical hero handily defeated deputy minister Vikingruler to win the open position. Both candidates pledged to increase the culture of our nation. One major point of Vikingrulers campaign was to attempt to build libraries in every city. This was contrasted by CH's campaign that focused mainly on making sure that cities were protected militarily. CH's victory may be attributed to his pro-military stance and his hilariously intoxicated letters to the editor.
more to come in a few minutes
Governor of Fanashire
In perhaps one of the most lackluster races new citizen Double stack defeated former culture and domestic minister Moth. This would normally be shocking but not so since MOTH quickly announced that he was voting for his opponent. This complete amount of apathy may be a formerly popular official was beaten so badly in this election.
Public defender
This was perhaps one of the most shocking and scandelous elections in our nations history. In this election two time external consul candidate and reputed crime lord nobody defeated incumbent PD Black_Hole , who was seeking his fourth straight term on the court and third as PD. The race was characterized by poor work by voter and candidate intimidation by alleged nobody crony el sancho diablo. Diablo himself publicly threatened to kill anyone who didn't vote for nobody and allegedly sent a letter to BH threatening to kill him if he didn't drop out of the race. Nobody congratulated his opponent by threatening to kill him and the 38% of the voting populace that didn't vote for him. This could be a very interesting term on the new court
More to come later
Nobody Jun 01, 2005, 06:12 PM Nobody congratulated his opponent by threatening to kill him and the 38% of the voting populace that didn't vote for him.

greekguy Jun 07, 2005, 04:45 PM Where Will the Conquering End?
by: greekguy
That is the question everyone is asking right now. Throughout the past 2 weeks the leaders of our great nation have being saying our country will soon shrug off our warlike ways and adopt a more cultural attitude toward the game. But the question that is still unresolved is, where will the conquest of other peoples stop. So far, the popular spot has been the tile where the city of Gordium stands at the moment. It had quite a bit of support, until recently. That would be when the Persians lost the city to the Byzantines in a war. Our nation had not planned to attack Byzantium this whole game. Now that Gordium is in the hands of a country other than Persia, people have being puting forth suggestions of other places to stop at. Some plans have less land to be taken, whilst others call for even more territory to be stripped from our foes. The final decision is bound to be soon, since we have entered the Industrial Age, started the foundations of a "railnet", and plan to start a massive culture buildup.
greekguy Jun 10, 2005, 04:42 PM More Nations Succumb to the Might of Fantannia
by greekguy, wartime reporter
Another round of wars has netted us a good deal of land and the "integration" of Portugal and China into our empire. These two nations have been fully conquered by the splendid Fantannian army. China, through a string of several wars, had been reduced to two cities, Tatung and Beijing. These cities were quickly captured when we lined up our rifle-wielding Cavalry next to their cities and attacked. Portugal had only three cities when they were at their maximum height of power. When we attacked they controlled only two, Lisbon and Guimaraes, which were again sezied swiftly with our superior cavalry. At the same time the we were also at war with the French. They were considerably larger, and thus more difficult to conquer. But once again the will of Fantannia pervailed, and their defenses toppled before our armies. Now the once mighty French country has been reduced to a useless, small, desolate colony city, Chartres. Additionally, the Byzantines have once again challenged the power of Fantannia foolishly declaring war. We refuted their foolhardy demands of famous Fantannian wine and they in turn declared war. This war might experience some combat, but expect it to be mostly bloodless.
greekguy Jun 16, 2005, 02:16 PM World War!!!
by: greekguy, wartime reporter
That's right, World War currently grips the globe. The War of course started with what seemed like an isolated incident. The Byzantines demanded, foolishy, for famous Fanatannian wine. Our leaders of course refused the ridiculous offer and the Byzantines in turn declared war. At this point no one else was involved in the conflict, until the Fanatannians decided to sorely punish the Byzantines for their insolence. Our nation were able to convince France, Hittita, and Maya to ally with us against the Byzantines in this war. The Byzantines were now surrounded on all sides by enemies and were swiftly collapsing. Theodora then decided to use some of here swindling Byzantine merchant tricks and enlisted the Mayans to thier cause. Now the sides were Fanatannia, France, and Hittita vs. Byzantium and Maya. The Maya's landed a stack of death in our territory and it was quickly decimated. From that point forward our enemies were on match for our army. The forces of Fanatannia razed the Mayan towns of Trebizond, Tyre, and Salamanca and captured the Byzantine cities of Gordium and Persopolis. Theodora was desperate at this point and decided that it was time again to run to other nations and enlist help. The Hittites turned against us and joined the Byzantines and Mayans in the war. Only France had stayed loyal to our cause, but they are a mere city-state. Will our powerful forces be able to combat the combined forces to the world? Only time will tell.
mhcarver Jul 06, 2005, 02:35 PM CIVIL WAR
The day we had hoped would never come is now upon us, the lands of the great nation of Fannatania are now in the grips of civil war. In the past few days former public defender/current Chancellor and now definite mob boss Nobody launched a power bid to take over the government. After his ascension to chancellor nobody declared the judicially appointed President Stuck as a Mac to be incapacitated and immediately ordered a state of martial law and issued questionable arrest warrants for all members of the judciciary, likely attempting to cause a popular revolt against the controversial amendment that allowed the judiciary to fill a vacant presidency.
The revolt can generally be listed as being split into three sides, the executive branch is headed up by the chancellor himself and is also notable for his alliance with the former culture minister Classical hero, he is opposed by the Judicial army, headed up by Chief Justice civgeneral that has the support of all the judiciary and more elected officials, most notably doublestack, a governor who has been able to sway several provinces to the JA , most notably the capital province. The third side in this revolt would be the mercenaries such as culture deputy Vikingruler who seems to be selling out to others.
From a military perspective this revolt is anyones guess. Through his declarartion of martial law the chancellor appointed himself head of the military, seemingly giving him total control and an unbeatable victory, however Judicial sympathizer Greekguy, who is currently leading the external consulate and once lead the domestic department has been able to get large numbers of workers and members of local militias to sympathize with the judicial branch making the two armies split roughly 50-50. With JA forces closing in on Camelot(the only city they don’t totally control in fanashire) it has been reported that the chancellor has or will flee the city by unspecified means and may go to the frontier city of gordium, where anti government sympathy runs high after the governments attempts to mow down the city. While fighting in many regions of the nation has been bloody and inconclusive it appears that the outer regions have more Chancellor sympathizers whereas the opposite is true for the older provinces. Will the executive branch abolish the judicial? Will the JA restore order? Or will Fannatania be irreparably split by this bloody, painful war?
BREAKING NEWS
the president has escaped from his captors in the EA and has become the new official head of the JA, Chief Justice Civgeneral, a former leader of the armed forces who has shown the ability to inspire his men during past conquests of India and the Netherlands will head the army in this time of civil war
By the way in case their was any questioning of whose side I’m on nobody, classical hero, you’re both fired.

greekguy Jul 14, 2005, 11:20 AM DG7 Planning Update
by: greekguy
There's been lots of discussion, polling, and senseless bickering over the past few weeks. Even though it was tough, we actually have made some important decisions for the next DemoGame. Here's a sumarry of what we've decided on:
The Map Settings
Roaming Barbarians
Conquests Version of Civilizaton (C3C)
Continents
Standard map size
70% water percentage
5 billion year old world (more grass/plains, less hills/mts.)
Temperate Climate
We are still trying to figure out what Weather we'll have. The poll for it is currently tied at 7-Wet, 7-Normal, and 1 lone vote for dry.
We are also in the process of deciding what Civilization to play. Though there has been much support for Greece (subliminal message...vote Greece...vote Greece), we are a Democracy, and we will decide the civilization through polling. If you want to participate vote in this poll here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=123698) (remember vote SCI/COM for Greece).
So far the most controversial decision we've had was what type of game we would play. Many veterans of the DemoGame were bored of playing a regular Epic game and pushed for a 5CC (5 city challenge) variant. In this game we would only be allowed to build and control 5 cities at any given time. However, there were people who opposed this, and wanted to stick with the traditional Epic game. This led to heated debate and several polls. After some time a compromise was finally set up and, for the most part, accepted. It was decided we will play a 5BCC (5 built city challenge) for the next DemoGame. In this variant we are still only allowed to built 5 cities the entire game. However, we are allowed to capture enemy cities, as many as designated by a poll still currently open. If you haven't voted in it, please vote here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=123525).
