I have decided to try out a ‘real-time’ system of storytelling, where I will write as the game unfolds. I have no idea how lucky I will be, so I could have an amazing, victorious crusade, or all my men could die on the beaches…
The Korean Invasion of Rome
690 AD
Wang Kong of Korea set his sights on Rome. Korea had been getting too crowded as of late and needed somewhere to expand. Rome was a land of similar size to Korea, however it was largely Jungle, unlike Wang Kong’s mountainous homeland.
An invasion was planned, but it would take many years to build up an army large enough to capture Rome, as Korea was no where near a military superpower and only held moderate power in the international community.
870 AD
And so, after amassing an army of fine warriors, three great galleons set sail from Wonsan headed for the Cape of Ravenna on the far side of the world. Wang Kong nervously planned for the coming battles in his headquarters in Seoul.
880 AD
Korea’s fleet is attacked by pirates as they sail into the open seas. Luckily, only minor damage is reported and they continue towards Rome.
900 AD
Wang Kong makes a surprise decision to land the fleet at the swamps of Lutetia, in the far west of Rome. This will dramatically shorten the sea voyage time, but will lengthen the road to the capital upon arrival. However this should also create a path for any reinforcements. The Hwach’a will be unable to support the troops due to the swampy land and must remain on the ships.
930 AD
Korea declares war on Rome.
950 AD
Korean troops land in the swamps just east of Lutetia. A single Roman legion attacks, but is held off by the infantry. One squad of infantry is heavily damaged and returns to the ships.
960 AD
Korean troops break through two garrisons of pikemen and overrun the city of Lutetia with minimal casualties. A ‘Roman Liberation Front’ establishes itself within the city.
970 AD
‘Roman Liberation Front’ members rounded up and excecuted. Civil Disorder breaks out, mass panic among townspeople.
980 AD
Order restored in Lutetia, shortage of food leads to death. Townspeople begin constructing a harbour so food and luxuries can be imported from Korea. Wang Kong formulates the idea of Communism and debates whether is feasible and/or beneficial.
990 AD
Scouts report seeing Roman patrols in the swamps east of Lutetia.
1000 AD
Massive Roman attack force spotted near Lutetia. Wang Kong orders that Lutetia be burnt to the ground and all of its people destroyed along with it. Korean forces board Galleons and sail towards Hispalis. Troops land in the jungles near Hispalis, again the Hwach’a prove useless due to the thick vegetation of the jungle.
1010 AD
Hispalis falls to Korean forces, scouts report that the Roman Army is not far behind. Hispalis is burned to the ground. Wang Kong decides that Rome is not worth capturing, however the previous arrogance of the Roman people towards those of Korea prompts him to still seek to destroy all traces of the Roman people. On boarding the Galleons, the Roman Army catches up with the Koreans and kills a whole garrison of men with archers.
1020 AD
Korean Galleons set sail for Brundisium.
1030 AD
Wang Kong decides to bypass Brundisium due to a large garrison of Roman forces. The Korean fleet lands east of the city of Rome. Finally the Hwach’a can be used, as Rome is built on grassland. A surprise attack by Roman Forces leaves many Korean men wounded.
1040 AD
Korean counterattack is successful, the attacking Roman forces are wiped out by a small branch of the Korean army. The rest of the army heads for Rome.
1050 AD
Roman Army sneaks up on Korean forces, destroying one Hwach’a.
1060 AD
Korean forces hit Roman defences hard, however the city of Rome just avoids falling.
Roman army attacks Korean Army from the rear, Korean Army totally wiped out.
The Conquest is over, along with Wang Kong’s dreams of annihilating the Roman people. The Galleons sail home almost empty, with only a handful of surviving crew aboard.
